It's kinda a long story, but basically after leaving Nick he started to use his good faith he had gotten over the years of making cartoons to boost his fame with really "how do you do fellow kids" type stuff.

But what really made people hate him was when he started to kickstart his OAXIS network, since he both sold it as a place for "great cartoons for cartoon fans" but also as a perfect platform for American fundamental christians, he slowly after that really started to show just how fundamentally christian he was by claiming shit like God was in all of his works, he later started to insult fans and critics that did any critism of him with the typical "I am an actual animator and you're not, so stfu" stuff, he also openly insulted people with mental health issues.
There are people that has documented this in far more detail on the net.

Are pretty much all by the same Youtuber (or fanatic of said youtuber) who claims that Hartman is some sort of elaborate scam artist who tricked people into buying into a relatively low-budget kickstarter program then revealed at the last moment that it was going to be a Christian fundamentalist thing. What he really just said was that it was going to adhere to Christian family values, but somehow these youtubers started kvetching about it.

It's more so that he, one, insulted them and their shitty memes, and two, they made tons of videos claiming his kickstarter would fail and when they didn't they turned aggressive in order to save face.

I think one problem with Butch Hartman is that he created a show about a boy with magical fairy godparents granting his wishes, and a show about a boy with ghost powers and ghost hunter parents, and THEN became a devout christian afterwards with strong beliefs in the bible which states things that go against the very concept of magic and ghosts, thus affecting his ability to work on those shows. In my opinion, retconning the ghosts into being weird energy beings from another dimension and not actual GHOSTS just ruins it.

It’s not about just making one bad product, before Steven she was actually a great cartoonist and artist that brought new things to the table. But when Steven universe came around she just couldn’t take the lead. She couldn’t take the lead in her story, she couldn’t take the lead in her representation (I mean common, you expect me to believe that rocks are gay?
