Feels like we’re overdue for one of these. Just got back from my LCS and figured this was a good time. Got anything new, lads? Read anything good?
I Really wish they’d stop ruining Alex Ross covers with this useless copy. Cool it has an Eisner nod. Can they release subscriber versions that don’t have this shit since I’m already buying the book? /endrant
Just these two for me this week, not much left on my pull as I'm dwindling it down but DP is always a great monthly read (esp. now with the rotating artists)
Aposimz quickly fell into generic shonen power level wankery but I'm willing to give it one more volume
I'll have to check out that new Doom Patrol in trades. Young Animal never lets me down.
Brayden Ramirez
Recently checked out this graphic novel called The Realist. Slice of life stuff with some clever art, presented like a strip. Been on a graphic novel kick lately so if anyone has any reccs I'm all for it.
Aposimz was shonen-ish from the start. Still, it's pretty nice and I'm digging the art in it despite not being a fan of this new style in Knights of Sidonia. Way patrol sucks though.
Jaxson Wright
Im reading grant morrisons Doom Patrol, mark waid JLA, stan Lee and jack kirby fantastic four.
What current series is everyone reading? I'm reading >action comics >naomi >the green lantern >savage sword of conan >fantastic four
A Walk Through Hell Birthright Black Magick Black Monday Murders East of West Ice Cream Man Kaijumax Middlewest Outcast Outer Darkness Snotgirl Weatherman
Silently cancelled, still believe more might come: Death or Glory Southern Bastards
Teetering on the edge of dropped: Black Hammer Monstress Redneck
Evan Cox
Oh yeah. I don’t normally go for TnA but that cover was too sexy to pass on.
David Thompson
>plan to buy Absolutes for half a year >letter comes in last week >have to pay back scholarship one year earlier than expected (in my country, you can keep one half and pay back the other) >if I pay back next year, I don't get a 20% discount on the payment well, there goes all the fucking money I have, including the money I had planned for comic books (over 800 bucks)
Adrian Rogers
Oof I'm sorry lad
Jordan Martin
Anyone else follow Archie?
Jaxon Richardson
Is anyone else going to Raleigh galaxycon formerly supercon later this month
Nice, one of the best threads, I was wondering when it was going to show up, it's been days. I don't have much to report other than my big purchase from InStockTrades already shipped and it's on its way to my courier. From there, it might take from two to three weeks to get here, but hey, I'm patient.
However, I do come with a tip, which might seem obvious but I don't want anyone making the same mistake I made: if you've ever bought something on InStockTrades before and you're planning on buying something again, do yourself a favor and LOG IN FIRST before adding anything to your cart and checking out. If you don't do this, you won't get the 2% discount extra, even if you're a member already. 2% might not seem like a big deal, but it actually is!
Nicholas Nelson
Death or Glory cancelled? Really?
Kayden Gonzalez
>What current series is everyone reading?
>Marvel: Immortal Hulk Doctor Strange Champions Invaders Guardians of the Galaxy Fantastic Four Captain Marvel Ms Marvel Ironheart + Some miniseries here and there. Avengers too, but very sporadically.
>DC: Green Lantern
>Indies: Analog Die East of West Infinite Dark Outpost Zero Snotgirl Beyonders Invisible Kingdom Seven To Eternity Relay + Might begin reading Sea of Stars, Stone Star and Sentient.
>right now There is never a time to be reading DC. Not now, not decades ago. Unless you really are a cryptofascist
James Sullivan
>Physically Usagi Yojimbo Anything by Jim Henson works (dark crystal, storyteller, labyrinth, etc) Spencer and Locke 2 Head Lopper Any Godzilla comics once IDW starts up again
>Piracy Anything that sounds need All DC things despite being 2+ years behind on everything
Juan Peterson
My manga came in the other day, don't think anyone cares enough to see pics but I got the entirety of >franken fran >oh my sweet alien >sumire 16-sai >darker than black >marry grave >helck Next paycheck I'm grabbing those two Steve Lichman volumes and that will by first Yea Forums related booms. And for anyone debating on buying the original manga or the ones translated in English, I would 100% get the original manga. If you want to read them physically then get English ones but if you want them so you can see them all nice and pretty on your shelf then get the nip version. About to start Annihilation then when I'm done with that I will be following the reccomended reading chart for Hellboy.
Aaron Watson
Solid manga list, user. Are all you listed completely released in English? I wanna grab FrankenFran and 16-sai and oh my sweet alien but if I don't grab all/most of it at once I'll forget all about it.
Jackson Myers
What's that one below Patience? A absolute Crisis on Infinite Earths?
Samuel Miller
I tire of posting my shelves, so instead: June’s take and hot takes I just finished McFarlane ASM and Simonson FF. The latter is kind of flat, imo. The Thanos War omni was top notch The IW omni was bloated. I’m thinking of reading Batman or ASM 4 this evening. I’m also considering O’Brian’s HMS Surprise.
Recent buys >Final crisis Dc essential edition >Sensational she-hulk by john byrne the return
Planning on getting Infinite crisis at some point. Is the omnibus or absolute edition worth anything? I've already read the four main minis that set it up.
Angel Davis
Did Infinite Crisis have any tie ins to warrant a omnibus? Or does it include the preludes and some of the OneYearLater issues?
Mason Turner
That Thanos War omni looks amazing, I'd love to have it so I can complete my Starlin collection. I have his 5 Thanos OGN hardcovers, Captain Marvel and Warlock.
Brayden Allen
I have the omni; it’s fuck huge. Omni’s are my preferred format and it’s still too big. As for story- I dunno it all seems pretty relevant, but the omni was a b,ind buy and I’ve never read it any other way.
Charles Edwards
>are you all listed completely in english I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you asking if they are all released in english? If yes, then two are. Fran by Seven Seas and Sweet Alien by YenPress. 16-sai is unfortunately not licensed in english.
Adam Gray
It is amazing. I got the IW omni out of a similar completionist urge.
Easton Brooks
Good to know. Will keep an eye out for them at my LCS, thanks.
Levi Fisher
Not officially but it was solicited to come out this month I think but then the solicitations were removed. It is probably just delayed but you never know these days. I hope it comes back because it is the best comic I've read from Remender so far.
Find it really baffling how The Walking Dead just suddenly ended. And such an odd number, 193. Why not get to 200 for a smash finale anniversary issue? Really confusing, and not good news for Image/comic shops. Saga and Walking Dead are heads and shoulders above other indie titles, and the only ones to regularly sit shoulder-to-shoulder and even beat your Batmans and Spider-Mans. One ending and the other being on hiatus is bad news for business.
Mason Thompson
PICK THE OTHER TWO BOOKS IT'S BEEN FOUR DAYS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I mean if it were ending on 200 you would expect something significant to happen, just because it's a milestone. Where ending it on a weird number is out of a blue because that's just how our minds tick - they really expect order and not randomness. So ending at 193 is what the author was going for, another twist and a surprise which he achieved.
(Also, take all I said with a bit of salt, just because I don't read WD for good 2,5 years and don't know whats going on at all, and am speculating on this purely based on logic)
Ian Thompson
It's fine from an artistic standpoint, but I find it baffling from a business perspective. Kirkman is COO of Image after all. Surely he knows how much TWD props up the line.
Liam Cruz
tfw one logo is a different color than the others.
just get in there with a sharpie bro. draw a 1 in pink while you're there
Kevin Mitchell
what line is that?
Anthony Cox
>One ending and the other being on hiatus is bad news for business. As a creator myself I'm super interested in this development. There's been some trepidation ever since Saga went on hiatus as to what and if Image's next big puller would be. Honestly I've no idea myself - maybe DIE? But that's if it expands beyond the same people already following WicDiv, which is where I'd wager most of its money comes from.
Apparently Image are currently publishing half the amount of books they were at this stage last year - which is the result of several series going on hiatus, ending, or the number of mini/maxiseries that end too quickly to gather attrition. I do think they needed to water their catalog down as it was getting impossible to pick anything out (esp all that samey high-concept science fiction), but now I wonder if there will be a scramble to get more potential hits off the ground, or nurture their pre-existing range
Very nice, do you always get art with the mounting around it?
William Walker
I actually like some of what he's done, the last thing I read of his was the Sentry mini in fact, which I've been meaning to get as a trade.
Joseph Gomez
Haha, I had this issue a few days ago with an order of 8 books... Only one of them hadn't been picked yet for over a week and I was pulling my hair in desperation. ... Then it was picked and shipped right away!
Camden Nguyen
Do perfect bound releases ever get exclusive variant covers?
Nathan Davis
I'm pretty sure one of the new Marvel Conan series had a variant for the TPB.
Brody Anderson
It's called DC Graphic novels collection Sagas. This one collects Byrne's Fourth World stuff. It's an Argentinian release
Jonathan Taylor
Yeah. I was thinking about that same thing. Nearly all the titles of the Image renaissance are finished or on permanent hiatus. Losing their two flagship titles is a real blow to their already slowing momentum.
You touched on Die and WicDiv. I think Gillen could be their golden goose post-Saga/TWD. Their biggest creators after Kirkman and BKV seem to be Remender, Gillen, Hickman, and Lemire (in some order). Maybe one of them will produce the next mega hit. Maybe Die is that mega hit already and we will have to wait and see it grow over time.
Monstress is a series that has and continues to do incredibly well for Image. Maybe that title will absorb some of the fans of TWB/Saga. I don't know. I just loved that indie comics actually bumped shoulders with the A-list superheroes in sales at the LCS level, and am having trouble imagining the next title that can do that again. Image will continue to dominate the bookscan market in either case.
Noah Reed
With AT&T getting out of publishing, we will see Image last longer than DC
Parker Mitchell
Whoa there
Sebastian Rivera
Image isn't indie. Stop saying indie
Dominic Gomez
You know what I mean. Indie is basically synonymous with creator owned/non big 2. Don't be that guy. If you want to engage with the substance of my post, go for it, if you want to nitpick a choice of a word, go away.
Dominic Baker
jesus, did you steal someone's wallet? they have been cutting bad massively on the books that do the $10 first trade. It sucks very nice, I love his Black Canary art he was probably just tired of it. he's got other series he's working on and he's so rich he doesn't have to give a fuck about that comic anymore.
Jayden Robinson
I kind of love how Hickman solicited fake issues past 193 so fans wouldn't know
Wyatt Gray
some new read all his indie stuff, Essex County, Roughneck, Underwater Welder, etc. That really shows his amazing comic writing.
Yeah, Die's vol 1 being $10 is pretty much the only one left. Most likely due to Gillen being one of their bigger names that they can afford to take a loss on. Most other vol 1 releases this year have been >$10
Connor Long
and got this too, she packaged in a little sticker for it too which is neat. and packaged it wonderfully, perfect sized box with nice bubble wrap around it.
you have no idea, it's a webcomic too and you can read it, but holy shit it's hard core sex about 70% of the time and plot 10% the rest is just funny shit. Great art too
David Young
There were the four series that lead into it: OMAC Project (also Superman Sacrifice) Day of Vengeance Villians United Rann Thanagar War
>It was a big buy 4U Anyway, I think I'll just buy the trade and get Morrison's Green Lantern when it's released
Charles Cook
Batman ongoing aside, is this a good book by King? I was interested because it seems like a firmly cosmic DC story, but I also don't know much about this team. Is there any recommended reading on the Omega Men that isn't this one in particular as well?
Yes. That was before King got a huge ego when he could still write.
Matthew Davis
Alright good, I'm gonna add it to my list of future purchases. Curious that I never saw anyone talking about it before.
Sebastian Flores
before The Vision Yea Forums talked about it a lot and generally loved it.
Leo Wright
It was talked about a lot when it was coming out in floppies. Everyone was sucking off King for that and Vision at the time.
Jack Butler
Ah, that explains it. I started coming here around the time Vision was first coming out and I saw a very different picture of him back then, followed the storytimes also. Funny how things change.
Parker Harris
I personally didn't enjoy it, mostly because the lore I was knowledgeable on (GL and their current status with the Vega System) was ignored or done wrong. With that bad start I just began to nitpick every little thing.
Looking outside of my objections there it ain't a bad story, though if you read a lot of King his familiar themes of war/soldier/militaryleadership drama are there so if you wanted you could just read one like it that was done better like Sheriff of Babylon.
Jaxon Barnes
>I personally didn't enjoy it, mostly because the lore I was knowledgeable on (GL and their current status with the Vega System) was ignored or done wrong. Well that's a shame, because I might be similar to you in that sense, I appreciate rigurosity and continuity a lot, specially in cosmic stories, so that might not be a good start if he didn't follow it closely. I want to check it anyway, but that's also why I asked for a recommended list if possible, because they kinda remind me of the early (Valentino) GOTG which I really like.
Caleb Ortiz
Then go read the original Omega Men stuff from around the same time period Valentino's Guardians is from. Tom King won't give you what you're looking for.
Luis Phillips
Got it, will do... Found the one from 1983, and it's written by Keith Giffen, of fucking course. But it's not collected :(
All I've gotten lately is Bat-Morrison vol 2, and I'm waiting for Berserk 2 to drop.
Luke Bailey
Not a recent buy but finally got my collection of the invisibles back from my friend who borrowed them in college a few years ago and never got round to getting them back.
Thinking of reading them for the 25th anniversary. I might do the cut up technique and with the excetption of volume 1 issue one (ill read that first) and volume 3 issue 1 (reading last), I'm going to read the chapters in random order. Who knows what sort of magic I may conjur by doing this, but the multiverses be damned.
action comics started off really good its kind of gone to shit
Lucas Turner
Action Comics Superman Green Lantern Conan the Barbarian Savage Sword of Conan
Jackson Morales
Also, this page doesn't appear in my copy of bloody hell in America but does appear in the deluxe editions (least digitally). And it's not a torn out page as the back of the page before it has a print of vertigo books available.
Anyone with the copy of bloody hell in America actually have this page or was it always missing in that printed edition?
One doesn’t really read 70’s Kirby for such things, user.
Zachary Edwards
Yeah, the worst part is that the 800 bucks won't be even remotely enough for the pile of money that I will have to conjure to pay the thing off. so basically, I'll give away my comicbook money and still be worried that I won't make the rest of the payment
Samuel Wood
How mad are Image right now and what will the company be like five years from now?
William Perry
Is there any other bestseller they have aside from Walking Dead and Saga? If none, they're fucked right now as god knows when Saga will be back.
Ryder Rivera
I'm curious what will happen to them. Will they go bust or be absorbed into one of the big two? This is interesting and could potential domino to the point where comic shops and chains could go bust.
Jack Smith
his stuff is always nice
Isaiah Adams
No love for Outer Dark? Could be a good surprise replacement for either The Walking Dead or Saga.
Chase Morgan
Yeah, I'm reading it for free but every time I try to pick up the first trade on Amazon, it's always out of stock.
Also the art style makes everyone thicc as fuck.
Sebastian Morgan
Seems like it's been a long time since we had a shelf thread. This is our first one for July and I think we didn't have one at all during the last week of June.
Anyways, here's my latest purchases. Excited to read Moonshadow.
I have the first six volumes of 20th Century Boys but I don't want to get rid of them and re-buy the first three perfect editions. At what point does it carry on from where volume 6 left off?
Isaac Carter
A fully painted early Vertigo book that uses a fairytale-like style where a 100+ years old guy tells a story of his earlier life as an alien child which is actually one big metaphor for the writer's autobiography. Pretty cool shit.
Cool. Been recently getting into more painted art, might pick this up.
Connor James
Exactly at Volume 4 of the Perfect Editions since it collects 2 per volume.
William Stewart
Man, I love these old Vertigo volumes but they just consume too much space. Thinking of getting the 4 volumes Invisibles to replace my 7 volumes and the 5 volumes 100 Bullets to replace my 13 volumes.
Kevin Ross
Harrow County really surprised me (as in I wasn’t expecting to like it so much). And Dark Horse library editions are delicious . Nice pick up
Angel Baker
>LCS was charging €6.99 for the last TWD issue
Wasn't it retailing for 3.99? I didn't pick it up myself because I couldn't give a shit, but seems like a dick move to up the price suddenly
Benjamin Butler
When the issue was priced for $3.99, was it also known that it had 72 pages? That might factor into the repricing.
Alexander Foster
How much did that run you?
Roved Out is probably tied with Alfie as the best ongoing porno comic.
Alack Sinner, Mutiny Bay by Antoine Cosse, and Byrne's issues of Sensational She-Hulk
>Will they go bust or be absorbed into one of the big two? what's with all this doom and gloom. they are still the 3rd largest publisher, they have plenty of moderate successes with stuff like Monstress and Die. They will be fine, no company should be putting all their eggs in one basket anyway
Brody Harris
This, there has been so much RIP DISNEY trolling around here that the weak minded are actually starting to believe shit like this can happen with two comics ending.
Joshua Torres
She Hulk? About 40 bucks. Impulse buy lol
Henry Murphy
I have Fury My War Gone By volume 2 coming in the mail, what does /shelf/ think of that series?
>A fully painted early Vertigo book that uses a fairytale-like style It was an Epic Comics book. Since it was creator owned, that allowed JMD to let his close friend Karen Berger reprint it when she launched Vertigo. His other old Epic title helped around out the books too (Blood, a Tale). The new material he produced for Vertigo included a coda/epilogue to Moonshadow (Farewell, Moonshadow), the miniseries "The Last One" (reprinted recently at IDW), "Seekers Into the Mystery" (reprinted recently at Dover). He also had a one-shot called "Mercy" (reprinted recently at Dover), but that was produced for Disney before they cancelled their comic line. That Dark Horse printing of Moonshadow doesn't contain the small alterations that he made when it was reprinted at Vertigo, but does contain the original covers and some additional pages that he later cut.
Hunter Hall
Digital piracy reading Immortal Hulk it's ok. I'm getting tired of gamma wank desu Uncanny X-Men God what a shitshow. I'm just reading it fot the giggles. I Hope people doesn't pay for this. Walk Through Hell I don't know what's happening. Gideon Falls slowburn but good. Might get the HC once it releases. Doctor Strange I'm surprised on how good this one is. ASM life story It might turn into a classic.
Physical stuff Batman black&white damn, some incredible talent. Overall great stuff. GUNNM incredible compositions and action. ASM by Lee&Ditko. I tried reading it a few years ago but I couldn't get pass issue 2.Now I'm loving it for sure
Jaxson Rodriguez
Let me know if Moonshadow is physically easy to read. There's a lot of white-on-light-blue text in it, and I have heard that the Dark Horse printing is lighter than the old one, making it hard to make out the text.
Josiah Bennett
Oh god help me. I've been addicted to searching and fishing for floppies lately, instead of buying trades.
Camden Gutierrez
>Moonshadow already gone from IST why does IST get such low Dark Horse stock?
Lucas Lee
Bump, most recent purchase is Lobster Johnson vol 1
Is that Seven Soldiers omnibus in order of 1 of everything then 2 of everything or 1-2, 1-2, 1-2?
Daniel Torres
It's a specific order, as intended by Morrison. I took a picture, but it's too large for Yea Forums and I don't have compression software on my phone. It goes something like >Seven Soldiers 0 >Shining Knight 1 >Guardian 1 >Zatanna 1 >Klarion 1 >Shining Knight 2 >Guardian 2 >Zatanna 2 >Klarion 2 >Shining Knight 3 >Guardian 3 >Klarion 3 >Shining Knight 4 (skipping Zatanna) >Zatanna 3 >Guardian 3 >Klarion 4 and I didn't take a shot of the second page, which has more minis in it
Anthony Reyes
>Bubbles >Shatter >Solo >Joe Kubert Presents >Baker Street
Based taste and great finds. Especially Enchanter, I only found out about that one recently and it looks the tits. Amazing B&W art by Sandman artist Mike Dringenberg that remains unfinished
Connor Cruz
There was a solicitation for a omnibus many years ago. Less than 2000 orders were made, so DC cancelled it.
Adrian Lopez
So dumb. Marvel has been reprinting a lot of obscure shit lately, why can't they follow that example?
For instance, Marvel is reprinting the classic Starjammers run by Dave Cockrum in October, separate from the X-Men classic omnibus. I'm sure they know it doesn't have that many fans but still it's worth printing.
Brody Parker
Wrong pic, but that one is another reprint that is worth picking.
Jenette Kahn implemented a new royalty policy when she was there. Instead of just getting a cut of the cover price, creative teams got paid per page reprinted. That policy held from 1976-1996, so everything from that period is more expensive for DC to reprint by default. Then she added bonuses for books that sold well at the time. Marvel didn't do anything like that, so it costs them nothing to reprint whatever they want
Bentley Rodriguez
Adventurers is great. I need to find the issues I'm missing so I can read the whole thing. I haven't read any of Elf Warrior yet.
That's not too bad. More than I want to pay though. Most of the She-Hulk issues are super cheap barring the controversial ones like 40.
Enchanter looks great. I'm disappointed that there are only 4 out of 8 issues released. Baker Street is a little weird. The covers and colored work is great, but the interiors are a little wonky. Still cool to see early Guy Davis though.
Christian Torres
LCS had a dollar back issue sale, so I picked up a ton of Hama G.I. Joe. Mostly just happy I've got Silent Interlude now, but it's all in the 20s-40s, some good stuff in there if I'm remembering right. Nice. I find it kind of drags during the Third Army stuff, but it's a good read as a whole. Plus, it's cool that it collects the preFlashpoint and N52 stuff as one giant story. Not a lot of runs you can do that with.
John Ward
I get that. I have the digital version of the deluxe ediions and was thinking of swapping over.
I have for DMZ and Geoff Johns Flash.
Was gonna for Scalped but as I've moaned before, they canned the last 2 deluxe books in paperback format.
Alexander Ross
Piskor?
Leo Lopez
sup, ed
Gabriel Butler
Grand Design was great Ed.
Thomas Clark
So we're really running with this Ed Piskor meme? Anyone who buys a bunch of more obscure stuff is Ed?
Jose Myers
t. Ed Piskor
Eli Nelson
Eh, I'd rather spend dough on this She-Hulk over what she is now
Joseph Stewart
I'm hoping I can find those issues for cheap sometime. Maybe I'll get lucky
Shhh, don't tell anyone
Matthew Johnson
Is Uncanny X-Men as bad as everyone says? I like to let a series build up or finish before reading so that I can marathon the issues, and X-Men just finished so I’m considering diving in. Thoughts?
Jack Anderson
How do 19 different characters' deaths over the course of 21 issues sound to you?
Eli Thompson
My LCS has a bunch of them 2-3 dollars each, same place I got that #40. Though I really I feel strange getting parts of a run.
Nathan Ross
Cool
Joseph Mitchell
It's pretty bad, I'd argue the only issue worth reading are the one where Scott comes back and makes himself known to the world (though you get Blindfold killing herself to get out of being in a shitty book).
Eli Rivera
It's awful. Bad writing and horrendous art.
Tyler Roberts
Does it enter so-bad-it's-good territory?
Lucas Long
No. Chuck Austen was unironically better than this
Justin Gonzalez
>marvel's face when they made the Uncanny relaunch intentionally terrible to make Hickman's return extra hype
Bombastic anatomy that stylistically displays the action while still remaining clearly recognizable is exactly the reason one should read 70's Kirby.
Luke Bailey
>That Dark Horse printing of Moonshadow doesn't contain the small alterations that he made when it was reprinted at Vertigo, but does contain the original covers and some additional pages that he later cut. This is... annoying to hear.
I mean, I own the series in the original Epic and Vertigo floppies, as well as the old Epic and Vertigo trades because I loved finding all the tiny differences. But is there a particular reason the "small alterations" were left out of this new version?
Ayden Ramirez
has anyone else had problems with a borked ebay search when searching for comics? with me for some reason i have to use quote marks otherwise my search will get spammed with pretty much every single comic listing on the website
Dominic Campbell
never experienced that before. maybe it's a bug?
Landon Phillips
No, but I have noticed that there are a lot more Sponsored Results (for instance, Buy it Now being mixed in with Auctions, even when my settings are set to Auctions only). It's really annoying, especially if you have a saved list of auctions you check daily.
Jack Walker
i have ebay searches set to show only listings sold in my country and it'll still show listings from outside in sponsored listings so you're not alone with the dumb listings
Evan Gutierrez
Mad Magazine is dead. Truly the end of an era. I'm way too young to have experienced the glory days of the 60s and 70s, but I still remember picking up the odd issue in the 90s and 00s and having a laugh riot. Really wish they had a better reprinting system. Omnibuses of classic material should appeal to a lot of people. Oh well.
Gavin Reyes
Noo! Someone bought me! HELP! Oh wait...there are other Young Animals here. Ok...maybe this isn't so bad.
Worse than Austens run and i mostly blame Jordan White. Rosenburg has writen some good stuff and while this is editorial driven he's still failing in all counts. Every character death is completely pointless and forced, some deaths are ignoring character powers just to die. The art is complete shit. For some reason they want a chuck austen era before Hickman and i don't get it.
Brandon Mitchell
Bump
Anthony Rodriguez
EVERYBODY SHUT THE FUCK UP
THEY JUST ANNOUNCED AN ENTIRE CHRONOLOGICAL ENGLISH COLLECTION OF EVERY OTOMO MANGA AT ANIME EXPO
Hell yeah, brother. I'll finally be able to get Domu. And all those oneshot collections that have never been translated. I wonder if this includes manga that he didn't draw like Mother Sarah.
Thomas Baker
Nah I doubt it, though maybe if it does well we can hope for a separate release of that since Dark Horse likely don't have the license anymore
Programming is still sparse but for sure Steranko, Lemire, Simonson, Burnham, Miller, King and Gerads, Ba and Moon (and presumably Way), Eric Powell, Mignola and Darrow if he comes, Maclean, Gene Ha and Zander Cannon, Ron Lim, Eddie Campbell, and more. Shit is crazy but if you plan well you can get a lot done.
Tyler Miller
>what does /shelf/ think of that series? Some of Ennis' best work and the highest point of the MAX line.
James Edwards
Nice, from your list I wish I could meet Steranko and have a cold one with him. He's such an approachable guy. So they all charge for their signatures? I'd love to have some of my stuff signed but mostly as gimmicks (specific pages and shit), not to sell or exhibit. I know they become "valuables" after that but to me it's more about the moment.
Evan Scott
Those EC Artists look great on the shelf. I've been trying to decide between those and the Archives.
Jacob Johnson
>gamma wank Yeah, it's really annoying how Hulk is so strong he beat all the Avengers without even trying. Pretty unrealistic.
Levi Sanchez
I know right? That has NEVER happened before.
Jayden Anderson
Picked up, more cosmic hi-jinks is always fun.
Thomas Thomas
Steranko is a special guest but id be shocked if he doesnt do at least one signing. I just hope 1% of his coolness rubs off on me.
Most dont charge. The people that charge are usually bigger celebrities or D listers. But comic creators do it for free 99% of the time. And in my experience they're all very chill. The worst time I ever had was Mags Vissagio and even then she wasnt mean she just seems like she's mentally unhinged.
Eli Wilson
I think I read that they collect different stuff so maybe both. But I went with the artist library because they were cheaper. And I dont feel compelled to be a completionist. Just need to get the artists I like the most
Cooper Johnson
I've never read EC or really any golden or silver age comics, so I don't know the names very well. I was hoping to pick a genre and wade through it. I've got Blazing Combat coming and I'm looking forward to that to start out.
Luis Carter
>The worst time I ever had was Mags Vissagio and even then she wasnt mean she just seems like she's mentally unhinged. Details? Because that's hilarious. Also I'm not one to be a dick to creators up front, but I've always wanted to walk towards one of the ones I don't like at their table and purposely ask for another. But nah I don't have it in me.
Chase Bailey
Yeah just dive in wherever. If its not great its at least fun.
Nolan Smith
It was just a mood. She had an air like the girl we knew in high school who did too many whip-its. She laughed ay inappropriate times a lot and every person I saw that left her signing left looking confused and worried. We all sort of felt it. But she signed my Eternity Girl so whatever.
Jacob Bennett
Sucks when these D-listers get a whiff of fame and start acting like they're a big deal. The secret is to always stay humble, that way when you really crack at an old age, no one will say shit about you.
Zachary Rogers
It wasnt so much that she was snobby or self important. I just sincerely thing she's mentally unstable in some way.
Dylan Brown
In light of the new Spidey movie, I'm happy to own one of these
Highway Star, Fireball, and Domu. Every Otomo is good. I'd even say Akira is one of the weaker ones.
Mason Cox
Akira probably just got famous because of the movie.
Robert Allen
I'll have to check that stuff out with the new collections

I have 7 copies of Epic's Akira #38.
I don't know if I should sell them or hold on to them. I'm terrified of a color reprint nuking their value.
Aaron Diaz
10/10 tastes. BTW if you ever get Taint The Meat book for the EC artists, most of its stories got adapted in the old Vault Of Horror movie, so could be fun to see the stories there too if ya know where to find a torrent.
she's definately an odd one, but I wouldn't hate on her. Eternity Girl was great, and I really enjoy her take on magic in Sex Death Revolution. But when she is bad, she is BAD.
Landon Watson
bump
Thomas Rogers
Unless you have very specific issues you’re not talking a lot of money.
How did you get x statix? I thought it wasn’t out till next week
Evan Sullivan
>Kodansha announce complete Katsuhiro Otomo collection Is there anything else worth reading by him? Everybody only ever talks about Akira.
Jaxson Mitchell
It's the original #1, from 2002.
Aaron Gonzalez
Ah. I was thrown off by the Giant Size
Carter Hall
I’m so impressed with Conan. Easily the best thing I’ve ever read from Aaron. Every time I see someone on Yea Forums suggest Savage Sword is better I can safely assume they’re just jumping on the Aaron hateboner bandwagon. If the front of book said Ewing instead of Aaron people would be sucking it off. Fuck me this comic is so good.
Elijah Hughes
I'm not a fan of the main artist, but I read the Zaffino drawn issue about old man King Conan sneaking around his palace guard to go out and get in fights at night and really enjoyed it.
Angel White
Yeah that issue was great. It was basically Conan as Batman for an issue. I really love how all these issues are satisfying standalone issues, which is something sorely missing from modern comics, and something that typified classic Conan comics.
Jordan Johnson
Cool original DP
Justin Turner
I've never read anything by Aaron, and my only impression of him is from Yea Forums, so this is nice to hear. I just jumped on the Conan trade with the first EC but I'm definitely hooked. It'll be nice to have currently releasing stuff to read while I slowly grab the back catalog they're rereleasing.
David Anderson
Welcome to /conan/ my dude. Some of the best comics has to offer. I would definitely read Roy Thomas' run on Savage Sword if you can. That's probably the gold standard
Nathan Morales
I impulse bought the omnibus when the variant came back in stock for a short time. Really looking forward to reading it now.
You won't be disappointed. Conan doesn't truly become Conan until he's drawn by Big John Buscema. I was lucky to get the thicc Dark Horse trades when they were coming out. I wanna go read that stuff just talking about it.
I've noticed a lot of She-Hulk fancom on Yea Forums the last 2 weeks. Is there speculation on her appearing in the MCU? The MCU brand of comedy would be perfect for her
Dylan Cox
it's a shame Marvel is in the business of ruining this character

I think it's a kneejerk reaction to that recent Avengers issue shitting on classic Jen. For me at least these Shulkie issues I've been buying are purely coincidental, shit I've found in my area for sale
Andrew Wood
>Spent a stupid long time toiling away with a giant floppy collection >Not a single Venom/Black Suit Spider-Man
It's hard to say because 70% of his work is short story collections, which are always a grab bag. I've got the Japanese editions so I can do a quick rundown for you all;
Domu >One-volume action/drama set in a massive apartment complex that sees a senile old man with strange powers face off against a recently moved-in kid with the suburban neighborhood as their battlefield. Intense as hell and would set up a lot of what came later in Akira (namely kids with psyonic abilities)
Memories >Contains the shorts that inspired the Magnetic Rose and Farewell To Weapons anime shorts, a fully painted Moebius-style silent story, parodies of classics like The Old Man and the Sea and Don Quixote - and most importanty Fireball, the precursor to Akira
SOS Tokyo Metro Explorer >Otomo's sampler pack and a very experimental selection, including the titular story (later adapted as a short anime film of the same name), a Jean Giraud inspired western, a shojo parody, some 4-koma, a first-person perspective tale and a fantastic thriller about a man on the run
Sayonara Nippon >Features one of Otomo's earliest long-form stories about a Japanese man who sets up a judo class in 70s NYC and is suddenly exposed to a changing America. He did a lot of research for this one and it reads like a big love-letter to the city. Also has a few short stories but nothing of note
The Mood Is Already That Of War >Large scale Sino-Soviet war epic, one of Otomo's longest works after Akira and Domu. Only drawn by him. Recently followed up with a short sequel 30yrs after
They were a bit rough around the edges and I knew I could probably get more if I hunted for them. Don't fret, user. Keep looking. I'm shocked at the shit I've found these past few weeks alone
Yeah, you're right. I'll come across them eventually in my hunt.
Andrew Collins
Make sure to get the second printing, the first one had issues with some pages.
Caleb Jenkins
Yes. It has everything.
Ryder Butler
I need to pull the trigger and just buy this already
Caleb Peterson
I'm glad I have the original hardcovers. That thing is just a mite too big
Jordan Gray
Among the upcoming reprints, Marvel is going to reprint the original Annihilation omnibus, for those who aren't aware yet. This, I'm guessing, is a product of the success of last year's softcover printing in two volumes, which I personally prefer (I own it).
Sebastian Sullivan
I wish they would reprint Conquest, in trades or the omni. That has been OOP for such a long time
Parker Powell
Lucky me for getting a copy before from CheapGraphicNovels then, I had no idea it sold out. When I got it, it was still at a discounted retail price.
Julian Watson
Congrats fucker
William White
Hope it does get reprinted, user. I've been waiting for years to see if Marvel reprints the Kirby's Eternals run, only to see them do a reprint of the Gaiman run.
Chase Phillips
With the Eternals movie coming out you can bet that Kirby's stuff will get a reprint, same as his BP getting reprinted with the BP movie. What I reallllly want reprinted is Alan Moore Captain Britain. That stuff is so elusive. Can't even imagine what it would take for a reprint.
Isaac White
is Mister Miracle 2018 a good run?
Jason Parker
>Unless you have very specific issues you’re not talking a lot of money. >very specific issues I literally said I have 7 copies of Epic's Akira #38. One copy consistently sells for $150-200 on the secondhand market because of its low print run.
Hudson Turner
you should bind all those #7s together and sell it as a package. easy 1400
Evan Young
>King How dare you?
Levi Cruz
I never read any of his stuff so is it worth reading?
Andrew Hughes
Not really. Better off reading Omega Men, Vision and Sheriff of Baghdad. Before he got a big head.
Asher Lee
thanks for saving my money user
Jason Anderson
I just saw a hardcover for Conquest book one at half priced books yesterday for 14.99. Was going to buy it but it had some brownish stains on the front cover.
Carter Howard
Conquest is better than Annihilation. There, I said it.
Jayden Morales
You should have bought it and resold it online. Easy money. No way. Giffen writer circles around DnA. The best part of Conquest was the Starlord mini, penned by Giffen.
Tyler Lee
He is great with writing technique, not so much with plot. Vision is a masterpiece that he just is good with running with a concept rather than a huge plot. Read that and decide if you want to read more.
Wyatt Lee
I like Conquest better as well, but I'm a huge Ultron fan.
Gavin Barnes
Question for you floppy collectors, I just started buying them and I haven't picked up one of those boxes they sell at comic shops and such yet because I don't have enough to properly fill it (I have something like 30-40 books atm). Any advice on storing them in the meantime? For now I put them on my shelf next to my trades.
Ryan Taylor
No. Annihilation : Conquest :: Alien : Aliens Ultimately, you cannot put one over the other because one exists because of the other and successfully builds upon it in an unique way, but you cannot by any means claim Conquest is superior on the virus that it wouldn't remotely exist with that same scope and buildup without an event that basically did the exact same thing before.
Nicholas Phillips
I loved the ultron/phalanx shit. That reveal was crazy.
Gabriel Lopez
just buy a shortbox (with a design you like) from your LCS, they're like 10 dollars. trust me you're going to need it. if you go down this rabbit hole you will need more than 1.
Jackson James
Also don't buy anything fancy unless you really dig the design, it's not gonna be worth the investment. A white box will do.
Dominic Wood
no white boxes are for pussys. when you have a /shelf/ you are about presentation. making your shit look good. designed shortboxes is a giant art presentation piece. and they cost like a couple dollars more than a white one. you can even stick em on a shelf to display.
I can probably get even more desu. Binding increases the convenience of having them all in one place. A $20 bind can add another $100 of value to the set.
Just get a shortbox, your LCS should sell them for $4-7. You'll move up to longboxes before long.
Dylan Morales
Well I mean, those look good and I'd buy one, but once you start buying more and more floppies, it becomes more of a storage thing than presentation.
Luke Kelly
I always feel these are for people who don't really collect comics.
Or rather, enough comics.
Leo King
no one here presents their floppies unless they have custom made drawers for them
Jose Flores
well la dee da to you
Gabriel Flores
Get one of those boxes and stuff the empty space with some clothes or something until you fill it. That's what I do and it hasn't failed me yet
Lucas Clark
This Once you have an actual collection you aren't going to be able to see any of that art because the boxes will be piled three high and seven wide
Levi Clark
and this is why you only by floppies very sparingly.
Leo Hughes
No. It FUCKING sucks. Don't let people fool you. King is a terrible writer.
Grayson Myers
is 5 a month considered sparingly
Ryder Rodriguez
I would say so, it will take a long time at that rate to end up with a collection that is unwieldy. Personally I only floppy buy when I want to actually vote with my dollar. Avengers, Batman, Spider-Man, they don't need my money, but some of the indie and smaller books might stick around longer with my dollar so that's what I do. And yeah, I generally have 5-8 books per month too. Watching Comicbook Palace on youtube where people in a week will have 20 books is disgusting.
Luke Mitchell
yeah the guys that buy all their comics in floppies are nuts. and it's so cost inefficient
Jordan Kelly
Yet I see those every Wednesday when they post their pulls... From 8-15 ongoing issues, and the odd back catalog issue.
Nathaniel Moore
Pirates say the same about tpb's. You can read everything online for free. Floppies are the sexiest format other than hc omni's
Jackson Sanders
>over priced >shitty binding >adds >hard to store nah, they are not sexy at all
Joseph Nguyen
This. The real sexy format is oversized trades. 12+ issues collected preferably. Anything above 40+ is too much however.
Cooper Collins
not the same. floppies and collected editions is a physical format argument. the fact that you can pirate comics is irrelevant
Grayson Sanders
I only buy floppies for stuff I'm interested in (that equates to 15-25 comics a month) and I get trades and shit for things I missed the wagon or on or would be too much cash to pick up the back issues.
I like supporting creators that deserve it.
Tyler Fisher
Not much to say this week, I'll keep going with sunstone.
nice digits for a sex comic. But yeah, Sunstone is great. It's going to carry on for a long time from what Sejic says. He has lots of plans
Jacob Allen
>hardcover >tpb art >panini That explains it. The American art is more tasteful, I think.
Joshua Stewart
I buy floppies to support my LCS. I love them and love that I have a watering hole for such a niche hobby. I've been going there since I was 8 years old and I'm not 25. My LCS is an institution and if it were to ever close I would be heartbroken.
Caleb Martin
I'm now 25**
Xavier Howard
Trade's have awful binding compared to floppies, what are you on about? Trades use low quality glue and most of my trades fall apart after one or two readings and I don't man handle them or live in a furnace
Dylan Sanchez
I think my LCS might be owned by sjw and it makes me want to avoid it like the plague seeing multiple female employees with neon hair makes me wary
Liam Ward
My LCS has one of them too but she's harmless. Some of the guys that work there are total bros though and I love talking comics with them when I'm there. I have no one else in real life I could talk about that with.
Carson Morris
>my trades fall apart after one or two readings what country do you live in that prints that kind of shit? Mind never fall apart fuck off with SJW boogymen here. My LCS has many female workers and I honestly get better recommendations from them that the guys working there
Adam Nguyen
So what point is Spawn worth reading up until? Those Origins Collections tpbs are being gradually reprinted, I guess because of Spawn in MK11 and that upcoming film.
Hudson Butler
Hace you considered that maybe you're the one with the problem? I bet they're nice people but you insist on antagonizing based on appearances and fabricated internet feuds. Think about that.
Jack Kelly
Kinda the same for me. But mine is one of those general 'hobby' shops, except the main market for them ironically is the comics (for real, the same Lego sets have been sitting on the shelves for a year now all dusty and shit).
Also it's the only place within walking-distance from me.
Nicholas Ortiz
>fuck off with SJW boogymen here. My LCS has many female workers and I honestly get better recommendations from them that the guys working there maybe they aren't sjw not every female is a sjw >insist on antagonizing based on appearances and fabricated internet feuds. avoiding them is antagonizing them?
Jayden Wright
>What current series is everyone reading? Was reading RhatO, but stopped once Jason went solo. Gotten bored of videogames so I may return to it.
Jace Jones
>avoiding them is antagonizing them? You're acting divisive towards them, absolutely. You have no idea about their opinions, tastes or personality, you see hair color and think "internet drama", even though there's nothing indicating such thing. Culture wars rot brains.
Camden Campbell
>what country do you live in that prints that kind of shit? Mind never fall apart Land of the eagle, home of the hamburger. Maybe it's just darkhorse and dynamite that uses shit glue but almost every tpb I got from them has fallen apart. It's made me want to avoid buying tpb's all together
Caleb Morris
Dark Horse trades are really bad. The single volume Hellboy trades I got had pages falling out after 1 read, brand new. I'll never buy them again. It's odd because Dark Horses hardcovers are so good
Thomas Brooks
>You're acting divisive towards them, absolutely. I have a right to avoid people I don't want to be around for what ever reason. IF you think that's antagonistic then you may have some serious issues >You have no idea about their opinions, tastes or personality, you see hair color and think "internet drama", true I was quick to judge but I would rather not take the risk of being around them
Carter Wilson
>taking a risk is being around another human fuck me, humanity doesn't deserve to continue to live
Luke Perry
we live in the #MeToo era
Noah Allen
/pol/ has gotten to you mean, take a break. You aren't going to jail for talking to people
Josiah Mitchell
>mean man...oops
Logan Bailey
I think you need a break from the screen
Robert Smith
my step brother got #MeToo so i'm speaking from experience you also might want to look at how men are avoiding women in the professional work force now
Adrian Adams
Your solution is to avoid all females for the rest of your life?
Ryan Barnes
better than having my career destroyed
Henry Parker
have you maybe tried, not being an ass?
Carson Thompson
This is some tinfoil hat level of delusion. Am I on /x/?
>start shit >get proven wrong >"get out of my safe space" next time don't try to engage nigga
Isaac Clark
Hell yeah on some Shatter, bro. That Black Cross cover looks cool. Never heard of that book
Jason Taylor
>woman said he harassed her when he didn't >didn't matter that she had no proof and was fired immediately I don't believe this actually happened
Aaron Sullivan
you asked about it so I told you. I don't care if you believe it or now
Justin Peterson
this has nothing to do with talking to women in you're fucking comicbook shop. This is about men in power being afraid to take on women underlings. You are really taking things completely out of proportion.
Justin Sanders
>>get proven wrong Yeah you sure got me. I have seen the light and will also never go near another woman. Ordering a fleshlight as we speak.
>this has nothing to do with talking to women in you're fucking comicbook shop I made a #MeToo joke, they made some comments on the matter so I provided proof >This is about men in power being afraid to take on women underlings. if you actually think this is only limited to men in power than you're delusional >You are really taking things completely out of proportion. I just made a joke good to see that you admitted it
Juan Diaz
You bring up MeToo as a reason not to go into a comic book store where women work and you don't see how that's crazy?
James Diaz
>wishing Merry Christmas BASED, if he were in our Christmas threads I would send him a book
Evan Perez
it was a joke nigga and again it's not all women, just ones with neon hair
Whatever. I think it's best for the thread if we drop it
Caleb Perez
like what are you acting like to be scared of a clerk like that?
Luis Parker
why do you assume the clerk isn't the one that will be off I would but these guys keep going
Zachary Evans
where did this meme come up? people dye their hair all the time. Fuck I worked at a goth club and 90% of them had dyed hair and the same percentage of them were crazy as the people I know at work or anywhere else.
Benjamin Perry
so what version of Multiversity is the best version to buy
I also prefer conquest. Giffen’s characters in that mini all talk like bitter New Yorkers. It gets pretty tired. I love his 5yl though.
John Rodriguez
So glad I got the monthly off my back.
Dominic Roberts
Deluxe is definitely fine. I don't think the hardcover has anything extra. Very. Gotta make sure you buy non-dyed wood panels to prevent cancer. and avoid female clerks apparently??? This right here. I went to a convention last year where this stand was selling a bunch of trades, and I noticed they had a Hellboy collection going for lower than usual. When I went to pick it though, I saw why: all the pages were falling out and the binding was completely loose. turns out it's a common thing with them, I've bought older Marvel trades and they all hold up well.
Those are some thick-ass Final Fantasy books. What's in them?
Kevin Howard
>the Walmart DC stuff is getting reprinted as floppies instead of going straight to print
Can't say I'm surprised but I'm still disappointed. Just want my Derington art, bros
Connor Ross
Concept art works, maps, character descriptions, etc. Basically a very worthwhile companion book for every mainline FF except for XV
Asher Morgan
dude same. But at least we know since its Bendis DC will suck his dick and go straight to a deluxe edition once the run is over
Josiah Thomas
It's all because LCS's bitched loudly enough. DC even stopped putting variant covers in digital copies so "support the LCS's" so you have to go and physically buy the copy for the cover now.
Nolan Morgan
Woops, I meant 'straight to trade' but that was probably obvious
Yeah good point, they're already milking it this much, no way they won't gloss that shit up
Ehh does anyone really care for a variant cover if you're not buying it physically anyway?
Levi Roberts
>All of Ultimecia fucking jealous. there are pretty pricey though, would you say they are worth it to a big fan. Mostly interested in IV-VI content
Joshua Sanders
>Ehh does anyone really care for a variant cover if you're not buying it physically anyway? I prefer them in digital, if I want them for phone wallpapers or similar. Unless I'm actually framing the covers (something I haven't done yet), I have no use for them.
Matthew Sanchez
>Blackes Night Omni.
How is it? binding, spine, reading comic order, any extras, something missing, errors?
Blake Harris
Shatter started great, but kind of lost its edge when the original artist quit.
Robert Nelson
Get what you like. There is no sense in buying crappy stuff just to have consecutive numbers. That is more OCD than collecting.
Wyatt Morales
That should be interesting. I want to read the one that had a panel of a whale on a Japanese cityscape.
Caleb Peterson
Now I want to dig out my copy of Domu from where ever it is in the mass of long boxes.
Tyler Nguyen
I saw a comics dealer at a con who decorated his boxes with edited scans of comics panels.
My favorite was one of The Blob with the blurb "FAT COMICS AT THIN PRICES!".
Sebastian Lopez
How's Ultimania Vol. 3? It's the only one I haven't looked at yet.
Landon Garcia
Go-go-checks on the Doom Patrol cover. Man, is that a blast from the past. That is good stuff.
Aaron Green
Should I stop worring about binding comics and just get some storfolios
Yang’s Terrifics is better and so is Miller’s superman
Joshua Thomas
It's like I'm on neogaf. Retards losing their shit because someone doesn't like women with toothpaste hair.
Jaxon Price
I'm getting the Planet Terry collection based Marvel
Alexander Bell
Austen's run is unironically a little bit fun
Ryder White
I'm sure it's because he's doing his own stuff which is overall probably better but man I wish Yang had more time for DC books
Kayden Moore
he just wrote and illustrated a graphic novel about basketball all while being a full time teacher the fact he presents us with a little bit of capeshit from his brilliant mind is blessings enough
Absolutely love Patience. Wish I liked Age of Bronze more since the author is gonna be at comic con. But something about it doesnt gel
Lucas Martinez
Silverfish is underrated Lapham
Jace Hernandez
I bought one for transporting trades in my backpack and I love it. I can only imagine the headache it would save over binding.
>Essex County >Mouse Guard Gonna be a based from me.
Angel Adams
I just picked up the first omnibus volumes of deadpool and cable, and ultimate comics Spider-Man (miles) from half price books. Would've gotten ghost rider trail of tears also but for some reason it was twice the cover price.
I have no idea why that picture turned sideways lol
Asher Jenkins
all Lapham is underrated
John Williams
Yea Forums scrubs any exif data from the photo
Nicholas Johnson
Do any of the collected editions of The Invisibles have the letters pages? I want the full hypersigil experience.
Liam Cook
My local Books-a-Million is closing down, anyone got any experience with how that works? I went in to get a magazine, but they were all out of all of them, so I took a look at their comics and manga. Nothing I can't get online for a little cheaper, but right now everything's 20%-40% off. Is that going to climb in a few days?
Cameron Watson
Thoughts on Mark Millar's latest soulless movie pitch with really good art?
Sadly no For that you're gonna have to go digital and pirate the original single issues or buy the physical floppies and bind them I guess.
Gabriel Lewis
When phoneposting, shoot landscape, then it will post right side up
Anthony Brooks
I mean, if they're going out of business, 20-40% off is a joke. Either haggle them down or wait for further discounts. They might have to liquidate
James Flores
I'd wait a few days to see if their prices go even further down. I get 20% off on old back issues, normally.
Ryder Baker
Oh shit, turns out Booster Gold is getting printed again, I have been trying to get it on Showcase for the longest time. Ayone here read it, is it worth my money? I enjoyed Booster in JLI, his late 2000s series, Generation Lost and all that.
I went and read this series after that hardcover was announced, and found it to be a LOT of fun. I also just really love 80s Marvel and DC. I'll definitely pick up the HC (assuming it doesn't get cancelled).
Michael Williams
oh shit it's hardcover? I've got the showcase and was wondering if i should double dip
Well, Showcase is black and white, so if you wanted it in color, this is the opportunity.
Parker Fisher
Oh yeah, had high hopes since I'm currently enjoying some 80s Giffen Legion of Super Heroes. Very nice.
Uuuh, it says it's paperback in Bookdepository at least. I'm confused cause I do recall having read it was hardcover at some point.
Oh, well then. I hope I can still get it for cheap I guess.
Jayden Sanders
I still think it will get cancelled, but DC sent a message out to retailers saying it's now 328 pages
David Cruz
>I still think it will get cancelled Why? Please no, I was stoked for this. Has this happened again? At least let them get the first volume out like Vigilante.
Literally 40% of their solicited releases have been cancelled in the last year. AT&T wants better margins
Gabriel Ortiz
Should I pre-order it? Apparently DC looks at pre-orders
Ethan Ross
Oh dear.
Now I'm curious, can you list some noteworthy casualties? I asume it's all gonna be 80s and 90s stuff.
Justin Butler
Nathaniel Dusk (first ever collection) Sandman Mystery Theater Book 3 Doom Patrol vol. 4 (first time Pollack's run would be collected) Green Lantern: Mosaic (cancelled cos the writer was found to be a pedo) Hitman vol.1 (first reprint in a while, dropped for a shitty greatest hits instead) Night Force (the most recent series, first ever collection) Wasteland vol.1 (first ever collection)
And then there's the series that were seemingly dropped mid-collection without any solicitation of further volumes; Vigilante By Wolfman Ostrander's Spectre Ostrander's Martian Manhunter
So yeah, pretty much niche 80s/90s shit with little broad appeal
Jackson Cooper
That's what I'm thinking as well. Do you know any online book liquidators? The only one I know is HamiltonBook, and Ollie's has a decent books section.
Brody Torres
>Hitman vol.1 (first reprint in a while, dropped for a shitty greatest hits instead) this one really pisses me off. how do you not keep hitman in print
Daniel Myers
Oh yeah, that one is coming out soon! I've been curious about that one since I saw it in the solicits, how is it like? I mean, I don't buy it (honestly I prefer Morrison), but I have a passing interest for Terrifics so maybe this'll compel me to actually binge-read it.
Anthony Allen
Someone oughta cover her up! Such lack of decency...
Eh, she doesn't look bad, I actually prefer those kinda outfits, but it's not her. You know?
Camden Walker
>I also just really love 80s Marvel and DC Which other 80s comics do you recommend me reading?
Ryder Anderson
I wouldn’t even know where to start. There’s a hundred. Ugh.. read Atlantis Chronicles. That one is slept on
Brandon Ramirez
Looks like something Veronica would wear.
Anthony Mitchell
Stern Spider-Man and Avengers
Jaxon Nguyen
its really fun with great art, like it a lot already
Justin Thomas
>Vigilante is shitty with Wolfman, gets good with Moore and Kupperberg's run is classic >only collects Wolfman's run DC is dumb
Joshua Wilson
I like all Star comics because they're silly, people shit on them but they are what they are, enjoyable to me
Fish Police
William Wood
i was going to pick up the 2 Annihilation Complete Collection books, but i think i'm going to hold out for the new printing of the Omnibus that's coming. The Complete Collections can be picked up for pretty cheap, and the previous omnibus is hella pricey now. Are there any dis/advantages of the Complete Collection books vs the Omnibus?
Hudson Peterson
What dumber from their perspective? Collecting a series from the beginning (including the character's introduction) or skipping the introduction and 16 issues of earlier stories?
Cameron Cooper
just releasing a Vigilante omnibus when he was featured prominently on Arrow
Benjamin Miller
That would be nice, but also huge. 50 issues + annual + Teen Titans annuals + Teen Titans bullshit Maybe even include the Checkmate issue that was all about Black Thorn recovering his ashes
Jace Jenkins
had a strong start, but fizzled out fast and early. it's not good.
Alexander Scott
>Are there any dis/advantages of the Complete Collection books vs the Omnibus? Not a single one, aside from the bigger artwork that comes with the hardcovers. The collected material is exactly the same, there's no loss. I tend to prefer trades nowadays because they're easier to read, and Marvel's as of lately have been pretty good, but in this regard it depends on your personal preference.
Noah Wood
Oh Marvel, you got me. It’s been awhile since I had to buy the same thing twice.
Ayden Stewart
My mistake. I thought you said you had seven issues out of the 38 issue run. I have a #1.
Sebastian Evans
Full details of the Annihilation Omnibus here. It comes out on December 17th, so plenty of time to save some money.
>Description: Marvel's cosmic superstars return in explosive, widescreen sci-fi style! Annihilus, lord of the Negative Zone, has declared war! And as his unstoppable Annihilation Wave swarms into the Marvel Universe, demolishing all in its path, only a handful of heroes can resist the destruction! As Nova learns the ways of war from Drax the Destroyer, the Silver Surfer seeks out his former master Galactus for aid, the Super-Skrull fights for his son's life and Ronan the Accuser faces Gamora and her woman warriors! Nova and Quasar's army leads the charge, but as heroes fall and Annihilus rises, the universe's one remaining hope may be Thanos, the Mad Titan!
>Collecting DRAX THE DESTROYER #1-4, ANNIHILATION: PROLOGUE, ANNIHILATION: NOVA #1-4, ANNIHILATION: SILVER SURFER #1-4, ANNIHILATION: SUPER-SKRULL #1-4, ANNIHILATION: RONAN #1-4, ANNIHILATION #1-6, ANNIHILATION: HERALDS OF GALACTUS #1-2 AND ANNIHILATION: NOVA CORPS FILES.
are there any good youtube channels? Kayfabe is too pretentious for me, ComicPop just has basic taste and Sal sucks dick, Gem Mint is alright but Manimal has remarkably bad taste being like a woke gator almagam
Christian Morris
there are loads of comic book channels but none I would describe as "good". they're all okay at best. sometimes I feel if I want to watch a good comic show I have to make my own
Easton Rodriguez
i think Mags Vissagio is trying to say it's a ripoff of her soulless movie pitch that got a scyfy show pickup
Gavin Flores
strip panel naked
Asher Morris
This one, it's excellent. It's mostly about narrative and panel composition/lettering, but... That's already much better than most comic channels out there that barely go beyond the surface level story and art. They're actually nominated for an Eisner this year, though not for the channel but the publication (PanelxPanel).
Jose Morgan
i'm pretty much the same way with trades, but i'm finding more and more that i want to get the best possible versions of my favorite stories, hence taking the plunge into omnibus and absolute versions
I wish Marvel would release the classic Crossgen comics in new trades or omnibuses. It's a shame they just let those IP's collect dust and do nothing with them.
i'm kind of glad hellblazer isn't my thing. there's so much of it ..
Jace Stewart
As I understand it, you don't buy all of it because few people actually like all of it. You buy the writers you like and skip the ones you don't.
Hudson Bell
I'm probably not going to collect any more of it. I went to volume 8 because the early series is what I liked the most.
Jack Cooper
Generally, if they want to cover her up for some scenes they'll just make her wear a trench coat.
Dylan Lee
BTW for those keeping track at home, seems like a lot of people jumped the gun at Waid's Doctor Strange supposedly ending at #20 later this year, because Brevoort confirmed on Twitter today that it's not. Oh also he hinted at more Eternals reprints later on.
why is it that they can't just cover her up, but they have make her ugly as well?
Luke Reyes
they got bad artists for an artist character
Cameron Richardson
Wondering if those upcoming X-Men Milestones are worth getting or if they're bare bones compared to later collections. How is Inferno such a bitch to get
I thought it was pretty obvious Strange was getting a relaunch.
maybe, but that first one is Nicola Scott. she's usually pretty good, especially when drawing attractive women.
Aaron Kelly
>I thought it was pretty obvious Strange was getting a relaunch. Yeah, though I'm hoping it's with the same creative team so it doesn't lose momentum. It would suck to shift gears right now. >There better be a series to go along with that. I think the thing Ewing is gonna do with the new Greek Pantheon and Cosmic Hercules might segue into that.
He was the first character I sort of took interest in when I was introduced to comics.
Ethan Jackson
They're great for key issues or long runs that you feel hold a special place above your general collection. It's like a step above an omni for people who bought the original run.
Kevin Brown
A girl with bright blue came into my LCS the other week. She wasn't bad. Not into comics but went on about her obsession of Transformers, talking about the specific times they were reusing molds and everything.
Josiah Bell
I want to make custom ones like with Groo on them
Ryder Thompson
my lcs is owned by a woman who is super chill and can talk about weird old stuff all day and has offered to give me drinks multiple times
Ryan Collins
The worst TBPs I have are from Action Lab. I regretted buying the first, begrudgingly bought the second, and still haven't bought the third despite wanting to complete the series. They're practically bound together floppies. Still have ads for other books between issues.
Ian Thompson
last week at my LCS going out of business was 60% off
Hunter Perry
So two volumes. DC needs to get on par with Marvel for Omnis.
Bentley Morgan
see this is just Van Hellsing type, this does not speak Vampirella. And that is the thing vampi is much more than a run of the mill vampire hunter. This totally misses the mark on ever level. Good design but wrong character
Josiah Campbell
best one is Strip Panel Naked. but Comic Tropes can be fun as well.
Jack Reed
>vampi is much more than a run of the mill vampire hunter how so, she isn't exactly stronger or smarter than the other vampires
Blake Scott
so....is it sexual?
Dylan Cox
she is an alien from the planet Drakulon who's planet died like Mars. She still drinks blood cause that was the food from her planet but she has no daylight weaknesses. It's really cool that she is an alian rather than a real vampire cause it makes so many more story opportunities.
Juan Barnes
they both shit on all the comics I like
Elijah Cox
Funny I saw Atlantis Chronicles popping up on another thread, I definitely have to read it now.
I'm a huge Stern fan already I've read his Doctor Strange run I just need that Captain America.
Thank you for that. I've never heard of Fish Police.
Isaiah Anderson
how does being an alien make her any different from an average run of the mil vampire hunter
Dylan Phillips
pouring one out for all the comics that will never be collected. RIP my book babies
ComicsExplained is alright, Rob has a great voice. I like It'sSuperEffective because I have the same taste as Faust and I want to make his toes curl as I make him moan in his light scottish accent. There was a guy that did a really decent Darkseid video, but I can't remember the name.
Matthew Williams
>Darseid Video Imaginary axis? Only recent one that comes to mind
Kevin Ortiz
Sounds right, opens with him writing the Anti-Life Equation on a whiteboard.
Caleb Kelly
What the fuck is the risk? Cmon, dude, you should know better. I'm the first person to say that tattooed girls are probably attention-seeking sluts but I'd never not enjoy a nice conversation with one of them in order to see whether their character supports my bias. Sure, lots of girls with coloured hair are odd at best and have some psychotic issues at worst but try to have some fun with people. You'll probably find something positive about the experience like it's usually the case anyway
Aaron Mitchell
Got the first Strangers in Paradise pocket book. Goddamn this series is cute. Going to buy the rest.
Josiah Parker
I hate you.
Henry Murphy
Let's not forget Hawkworld Book 1. Maybe it's too offensive for today's audience.
Jacob Gonzalez
What's Genesis?
Liam Moore
>Millar's Superman Adventures didn't get a volume number and sporadically collected issues not including his Eisner nominated one what are they doing
Colton Green
Ever read Dilbert? Imagine if DC's trade department was being run by the Pointy-haired Boss.
Jose Rodriguez
How often do you guys buy omnis at full msrp? My lcs has a couple omnis that are oop but I I hate having to pay that full 125.
Austin Perry
read the rest of the posts before you talk
Cameron Lopez
>read the rest of the posts >dude randomly claims he can't take a risk because of the "#MeToo era" Nah I think his reply is apt. Can't be worried about that shit if you're not a jackass.
Elijah Price
>dude randomly claims he can't take a risk because of the "#MeToo era" can't even make jokes on 4channel nowdays because some dumbass will take it seriously
John Bennett
Fuck thats a nice Artagem Catwoman cover.
Daniel Sanchez
Right, "jokes", that's why the guy went and posted a bunch of links that had nothing to do about the case at hand (comic book shops) to justify his bias against women, then got his posts deleted. Because of jokes.
Tyler Taylor
>Right, "jokes", yes jokes >that's why the guy went and posted a bunch of links that had nothing to do about the case at hand read the posts nigga, they took the joke seriously and made claims that #MeToo shit was just paranoia. The links were there to prove them wrong >to justify his bias against women funny how you keep trying to build this strawman. Women with neon hair are not all women but continue to call everyone who disagrees with you sexist > then got his posts deleted. Because of jokes. nothing got deleted. Are you not using 4chanX? maybe you should stop talking out your ass
Jackson Diaz
I don't have any LCS in my city (and likely whole country, because of completely wrecked economy) so never. Every omni and trade I've bought has been imported from the usual places so to me it's all about the discount. Can't fathom anyone paying full price for the omnis either locally or via Amazon when good alternatives exist. I did see yesterday at a Comic Con that took place here a comic book stand that was selling an X-Men Apocalypse Omnibus at almost full retail price ($120), I didn't call them out on it but I did tell them upfront that it couldn't be pricier than $125 because it wasn't out of print.
Chase Butler
my lcs doesn't even carry omnibuses no idea why
Zachary Harris
Ah so you're the same guy, alright. >nothing got deleted. Are you not using 4chanX? I am, and I can see this right here, but fine. I believe we all agreed to drop this earlier, regardless? It was dumb and unfunny, if that was the "intention".
Never, I only get them online where I can get 40-50% off.
Aaron White
>Ah so you're the same guy, alright. obviously >pic huh hey did delete a post >I believe we all agreed to drop this earlier, regardless? It was dumb and unfunny, if that was the "intention". ya we did, that's why I told you to finish reading the chain of posts
Joshua Cox
Naw. I just like golden age capeshit. I like Human Torch and The Angel too.
Angel Cruz
My thread didn't get replies so I'll ask here. Do people really buy high priced old comics that are allegedly rare in value? And is this local advertisement in my area legit? There's this dude near my city that is selling a shit ton of old comics for $4 a pop; and some of them are big name shit from the Bronze era. He collects a lot of memorabilia and sells it and I was wondering if this might be a lie that they're in good condition, let alone original. I mean, he said they're in good condition but hasn't posted the comics pics in detail; only how they look like off google (original covers, not reprints).
I feel like if they had any value, he would put them on the auction block and not sell them for such a low price. Tried messaging him and he hasn't to respond despite being active.
I'm asking because I was thinking of buying it and selling it for its true value if they're actually in good condition and original; I really need the fucking money and my job isn't paying much. And I can't be arsed to drive to the area he's in since there's a lot of people that would rob me in daylight. He's also a jevv if that matters; not like I care. But the area is too troublesome and I don't know what to do
Ian Kelly
Are you aware of this material being highly sought after? If it isn't then you probably won't get rich off of it.
Joseph Cook
Even comics that are old and in good condition will still only go for $4 now. It completely depends on the comic, the writer, the artist, the cover artist, first appearance, the character, or if its a famous story. For example, a 40 year old comic can still cost less than an Alex Ross comic being sold right now. Can you at least name the comics or show us what he showed you?
>Do people really buy high priced old comics that are allegedly rare in value? Scroll up, and lurk more.
Blake Anderson
>He's also a jevv if that matters; not like I care. It never does, don't be confused by the placement of this board, that sorta prejudice doesn't fly here. >I feel like if they had any value, he would put them on the auction block and not sell them for such a low price. Not necessarily, he probably can't be arsed to grade them and it's likely not in great condition anyway (using googled pictures instead of camera pics is usually a red flag). Anyway yes, people buy a lot of highly priced comics that hold certain value, mostly classic stuff even if there's some recent editions scalpers want suckers to buy from them, but unless you're certain your items are in at least mint condition, I wouldn't bother. Try to find references on tfaw/eBay for the items you want to sell, then price them slightly lower.
Michael Sanchez
Sure, I'll list some of them that caught my eye: Bronze Green Lantern/Green Arrow 76 Luke Cage Hero for hire 1 Amazing fantasy 15
Silver: Amazing Spider-Man 3 The Avengers #1 The Incredible Hulk #2
The rest aren't worth much (beyond $100) in resale value. I feel like the seller is lying or hiding something since if these were in good condition, he'd show me a picture of them. He says some are graded in the local ad on my street but doesn't respond. Says all the comics are in great/like new condition
Gabriel Lewis
>He's also a jevv if that matters Don't fall for it!
>they both shit on all the comics I like aww, sorry princess
David Davis
she has other powers like telepathy, she doesn't have the normal vampire weaknesses, her society was technologically advanced and space faring. there's a lot extra to her than a standard vampire.
Colton Ortiz
I bought the Promethea Absolute Vol 2 for cover price. probably going to try and sell it cause this goes got good cash online
Kayden Reyes
well for one she's an alien and the average vampire hunter is not an alien
Jose Cruz
look on ebay
Isaiah Williams
Some day we need a thread about which books are worth getting in black and white instead of color.
Grayson Price
make the thread. I was thumbing through some Marvel Essentials a couple days ago...seems like a cost effective way but the lack of colour made me hold off until I knew more
Levi Barnes
Silver age ones might be sell able, the rest isn't. Expect them to be VF/VG if they don't want to show a photo.
Tyler Gray
>space faring Since when?
Zachary Edwards
since her inception. her planet died and sent space ships out to other worlds to try to find a new home
