This just doesn't feel like a Spider-Man movie...

This just doesn't feel like a Spider-Man movie. It isn't offensive or anything but it just doesn't have that Spider-Man feel.

>This just doesn't feel like a Spider-Man movie
Too bad it has the Marvel Studios Logo.

>It lacks the soul of Spider-Man.

>It lacks a fundamental understanding of how the character of Spider-Man functions, why he does what he does, and the personal anchors that make him the character that he is. His supporting cast, which is among the best in comics, was butchered and completely scraped away to be replaced with a knockoff of a Miles Morales character, his core motivation is at best hinted at, instead that focus being shifted onto Iron Man, an irresponsible egocentric futurist alcoholic who got a city blown up and at this point made 7 or 8 supervillains because of his own actions.

>Even focusing on trying to be like "Ultimate" is disingenuous, it isnt like Ultimate in the slightest. Ultimate was a retool of the initial concept at the year 2000 to be about a modern teenager dealing with modern problems and a more tightly knit version of the classic mythos, and is full of violence, suffering, death, and turmoil. Spider-Mans core character more or less revolves around two key things:

>Juggling his personal and Superhero life, and the drama that it creates.

>Being independent, to his own detriment.

>Spider-Man was among, if not the, very first teenage superheroes. Not a sidekick, his own bonafide man. And his primary motivation is pathological guilt and the sense of responsibility it creates because of his own egocentric actions causing the death of a beloved family member.

>MCU Spider-Man has none of the responsibility, none of the tact, lacks the supporting cast and villains of the comic book version. Hell he lacks his own achievements, he constantly needs help and gear from Tony Stark, wanted to be trained by Tony Stark, wanted to be an Avenger. Spider-Man is not that. He's never been that, and all its done in the MCU is undermine his core concepts.

>Spider-Man was created to subvert the concept of a teenage sidekick, and now all he is is a teenage sidekick.

>>Uncle Ben
>No fuck you let me stop you there. even if they dont show him die a third time the fact remains that that origin should still clearly and presently resonated throughout the fucking story as his core driving motivation. After that lip service bullshit in Cviil War, theres nary a fucking peep ever mentioning Uncle Ben again. Dont give me that "oh Mays having a hard time" bullshit. HER FUCKING HUSBAND DIED.
>
>THATS MORE THAN "A HARD TIME".
>Skip the decathalon? They win anyway. Bounce on Ned at the party after being hyped up as knowing Spider-Man? Nobody gives a shit by the next scene. BISECTING A FERRY? OH here comes IRON MAN to Deus Ex Machina the problem with bullshit plot magic. Aunt May learning his identity? Oh just a little gag, she doesnt give a shit by the next movie.
>
>>Early in his career
>Fuck off, Spider-Man should be Spider-Man as soon as Uncle Ben gets shot, dont you fuck with me on this.
>
>>His achievements havent hardly--
>Again fuck you. Spider-Man should achieve shit on his own without being given hand-me-downs from fucking Iron Man. Peter MADE his suit. HE came up with shit like spider tracers and impact webbing. HE designs his own shit outside of a scant few examples because he's an independent rogue superhero. He's not a fucking asskisser, he never was, from day one he never was.
>
>>Even if that's not the only one, he's a teen. That's something they do.
>WHO THE FUCK CARES IF ITS REALISTIC IF IT
>
>ISNT
>
>FUCKING
>
>G O O D.
>
>>Then stop thinking as this as Classic Spider-Man
>Fuck you faggot thats not a god damn excuse, its a failure of the writers to understand the character.
>
>Spider-Man isnt some bitch boy motherfucker who look for validation and he never fucking was. Not even Ultimate which is always the go-to excuse.

I think everything is pretty much summed up. Alrighty thread over

I know, spider-man doesn't roman salute once. I guess only Raimi can get the character right

>Spider-Man was created to subvert the concept of a teenage sidekick
>sidekick
Wat

Most teenager superheroes before Spider-Man were relegated to the role of sidekick to an older superhero. Spider-Man was different because, despite being a teenager, he was his own hero - and having to figure it all out by himself while dealing with "grounded" problems (paying bills, missing school, being unpopular, Aunt May getting sick, etc.).

remember when spiderman had super powers? good times.

> only a few minutes of footage in New York
> completely change the villains backstory
> took the john hughes comedy route but I only laughed once
> Peter and MJ don't have chemistry
> Jake Gyllenhaal feels like he's mailing it in
> generic CGI fight scenes
> Way too much time with Shield
> Best part was JK Simmons

I liked Homecoming quite a bit so this ended up being pretty disappointing to me. Tom Holland is good, but the script really let him down.

I forgot the biggest problem, which is Spider-Man doesn't feel like Spider-Man. He feels like Iron Man Jr.

Does he even tell jokes in it? I didn’t notice the Spidey humor

Why you think they revealed his identity at the end? if someday they add Daredevil they will do the same shit.

I have no idea. You'd think they'd know that is something that everyone universally hated when they did it in the comics.

June Angela reminds me of webm related

It’s a Mysterio movie. He really stole the show.

It literally says “Spiderman” right there in the picture you posted. I don’t think you know who Spiderman is.

Raimi Trilogy 4 lyfe

these are such petty and insane criticisms. if you seriously didn't see spiderman trying to balance his personal life and his superhero life in far from home, I don't even know what to say to you. that's literally the central conceit of the entire film; it's literally the struggle the entire movie.

you're such a fucking moron too. of course a young peter parker would have wanted to get gear and learn from iron man, young peter parker literally went to the fantastic four in the *first* issue of amazing spiderman to join them to get money lmao. even later in his life he joined the avengers multiple times for the paycheck.

he's obviously not stupid in the mcu either, he made his first suit and developed web fluid by himself. the reason tony stark takes a liking to him is exactly because he's really smart, really motivated and self-reliant. it's the reason that in the first movie after stark gives peter the new suit and peter fucks around with it, stark explicitly says to him, "if you're nothing without the suit, then maybe you shouldn't have it." in the comics, young peter parker took time to learn the lessons of responsibility that comes with being a superhero, lessons that continued happen far, far after ben's death. that's no different in the mcu.

you're also comparing adult peter parker, with about 60 years of writing and development, to a character who's had two movies. of course he doesn't have a massive supporting cast and they're taking time to flesh out the rogues gallery. if you're upset with the take on vulture and mysterio, again, I don't really know what you want.

at the end of the day, if you don't like it, you don't like it. but as someone who's been reading the character since I was a kid, the mcu take is by far my favourite on screen version of the character and his rogues gallery

stop relying on raimi films to fill your spiderman boner

>stupid faggot who clearly doesnt read comics

>dumb greenposter who calls someone a faggot
embarrassing, get help

>greenposter

Motherfucker where are you from?

>So desperate.

Guys, we got that. Now stop.

>nowadays people will believe anything
kino

It's just annoying having your favourite character shit on and everybody cheering, Maybe i'm just old and jaded.

Why is there no secret identity? Why does everybody know who spiderman is? Why do we get 30 seconds of swinging in new york? Why is there no uncle ben? Why does the movie revolve around tony starks old underwear? Why is the suit so gross. Why is spiderman so autistic in public and never cracks jokes?

Attached: 8jtkw.jpg (620x413, 19K)

because all that shit is old and gay and boring
get with the times old man

>having your favourite character

I don't believe you, not even a little. you just jumped on the train, like most people on Yea Forums

Spider-man 2 is not shit and gayl, but I agree with you that it would be stupid to make a film like that twenty years later.
I don't see anything wrong with doing a different experiment with the Mcu, and this will not remove the merits of Raimi Spider-man that will remain a classic.

remember when people used to bitch about natural webbing coming from his wrists instead of webshooters?

it's old and gay and boring when everyone has that problem like DC

in the MCU Spiderman is unique with the secret identity

fucking Blips, I swear you guys never shut up about what it used to be like. You'll never understand how fucking great we had it when you losers were gone.

>>Juggling his personal and Superhero life, and the drama that it creates.
This is literally where all the conflict in the movie comes from you mongoloid

they play lip service, sure but it's not 'conflict' in the sense that it creates choices and impacts that reverberate throughout the film. In Spiderman 2 Pete's superheroing makes him withdraw from MJ as a friend and results in her getting engaged. They end up together, sure, but for a while there he pretty much had lost her to the astronaut, a perfect and loving man. In FFH she knows who he is so in spite of his superheroing she still likes him. And his only romantic rifle is that dopey asian guy that no one really likes anyway

did any one from the MCU answer if uncle ben exists in the MCU?

Just got back from watching it earlier today and couldn’t agree more. This is a
Universe where peter is 15 still when in comics he should be in his 20s. It’s a different universe, i get people being angry about stuff like thor ragnarok being an outright steal of planet hulk but sub in Thor but I really don’t get it

What the fuck secret identity are you talking about? It gets revealed so many times and is done and undone in the comics. Spiderman takes off his mask and says his name in public in civil war (616 not ultimates not mcu but the main comic universe) it’s been undone by a deal with Mephistoph and when they have to erase the world at larges memeory about sentry to seal away the void

The suitcase Peter uses in the movie has the initials BFP so yeah he has existed, he was also indirectly mentioned in Civil War.

>Why is spiderman so autistic in public and never cracks jokes?
You mean like Tobey? you late millennial that might as well be a zoomer.

oh good

there was only 30 seconds of web slinging in the tobey series.

>Uncle Ben existed but doesn't matter as much to Peter as Tony Stark
That's kind of worse desu

I believe you are a faggot. Fuck You!

>but it's not 'conflict' in the sense that it creates choices and impacts that reverberate throughout the film.
The climax of the film literally happens because Peter wasn't sure if he wanted to give up his personal life to try and be a serious superhero. That's what the entire conversation with him and Mysterio in the bar is about.

In Civil war and even in IW his way of speaking was rather consistent with the comic and this without appearing like an idiot. His exchange with Falcon and Buck was pretty excellent.

Even when he began to analyze the geometry of Cap shield he was definitely in the character.

>young peter parker literally went to the fantastic four in the *first* issue of amazing spiderman
yes, he beat them up and then angrily jumped out of the window when they said there will be no money and Reed said mean things to him

>joined the avengers multiple times for the paycheck
That happened once after OMD, and that was Bendis' idea to justify loss of independence

>he made his first suit
you mean shitty hoodie? IRL 12 year olds are actually capable of making a decent Spider-man suit, hoodie and goggles is not a superhero suit, all it shows is how uncapable he is without Mr. Stark
>really smart
>didn't make his own gear, even web-shooters
>needs Stark's AI and other people to tell him what to do

>really motivated
all his motivation is wanting to impress Avengers, according to mouse, he had no uncle that raised him since he was a baby in this continuity, or we'd actuallly see him mourning him in HC 6 months after his death.

>self-reliant
see previous two

>that's no different in the mcu
the difference is that now he is an accesory of Iron man's movie franchise, and not allowed to be independent (and surely a comic scholar such as yourself would know what Spider-man's most unique trait was upon conception)

>adult peter parker, with about 60 years of writing and development,to a character who's had two movies
the criticism applies to Iron boy more so if Iron BOY compared only with Ditko's high school Spider-MAN

>who's been reading the character since I was a kid, the mcu take is by far my favourite on screen version
Translation: Don't ask questions, just consume the product! It doesn't matter what lasting consequences it would have on your favorite character! Disney's profit is the only thing that ever mattered!

If you are trying to sell yourself as a "fan" don't even mention FF anymore, real fans actually read ASM#1 and will call you out, retard shill
