People tend to end up together after having shared intense experiences. Those two were essentially on an extended roadtrip with one another during a war in which they usually in some sort of danger and most of the time the only other dude around was her brother and then later a hormonal teen who had continually put them in danger previously. Aang spent most of that time always improving himself and being heroic, eventually leading to him saving the day in the end. Combine this with them both being full of hormones and the relationship seems inevitable. Whether or not a relationship that came from those circumstances would realistically last is another matter but it's not exactly illogical that they ended up together.

Thing nobody realizes is how awful burn scars are in real life. First off, they're not makeup like in Avatar, they don't give you pretty eyeshadow and a facial tattoo. They're mottled and irregular. They're not just one pretty tone, they're a bunch of them. White, black, brown, it doesn't particularly make sense. Second, they're way worse-textured than in Avatar. Bumps and PUS. Third, the fucking STRETCHING. Scars are not as elastic as normal skin. The entire left side of Zuko's face would have been pulled upwards into the scar area, and the skin in that area would basically look shriveled. His eye wouldn't be cool and squinty, it'd be tiny and inflamed. His ear would look like a dried mushroom, if it existed at all. Oh, and forget hair. His haircut in the later books is literally impossible, he would not have hair that luscious over the scar tissue. He'd have a permanent bald spot on the side of his face and the scar would NOT be a nice flame shape so the bald spot would look weird and unnatural instead of looking intentional.

I can't make you believe anything. I can however show you inescapable proof that Aang and Katara were intended as the canon pairing, and had romantic feelings for each other. There's more romantic sparks flying in The Headband between Aang and Katara than she ever had with Zuko. All the examples of Zutara moments can basically be interpreted as something else in context. A desire to atone for Zuko's past mistakes, Katara's resentment toward Zuko, Katara's pity for Zuko's pain, her eventual forgiveness of him and moving forward. But the whole dance sequence of The Headband is blatantly indicating a growing relationship.

Aang and Toph were fun to watch in action because right off the bat they act as amusing catalyst for each other's immature behavior and honestly that was refreshing. It's easy to imagine them bumming around the world together occasionally stirring things up and eventually hitting a point where they just decide to be more than what they were. Eventually Aang passes away and Toph becomes a hermit to deal with her grief and potentially find spiritual enlightenment so she can communicate with spirits (Aang)
