That's not why dark magic is morally repulsive. Have you never learned how to read subtext? Fuck! The implication is clearly that dark magic is not just snuffing out a life, it's destroying the souls of whatever is killed to fuel it. It uses the elemental affinity of the creature killed to fuel magic. And as 'animals' which have a strong bond to one element, of fucking course elves would be terrified of humans indulging in dark magic!
I expect them to spell it out in the third season, seeing how it obviously went over so many people's heads. Guess you really have to spell everything out for today's audiences.

Netflix doesn't say anything and then just drops a trailer the week before the release of a new season. It does this with all of its shows. Because they know they can get away with it. They know that people will just consume the whole thing in one day.
