According to some stupid rule of the comic, reinforced by the mental stubbornness of many fans, the only long-term girlfriend Peter can have is Mary Jane. Any other girl who is not called Mj, somehow, is destined to not work with him or to die.

Honestly if any impression is given from the film itself, it's thst something bad happened and Peter reacted by trying to follow the example of his heroes like Iron Man.

What do you mean? Ben is the entire REASON Peter is S.M in the first place, it's obvious his death did affect Peter or else he wouldn't even be Spider-Man in the first place

His whole reason to go after the Vulture during the first two acts in Homecoming was to impress Mr. Stark and join the Avengers. (He even said something like that during that scene where he misses his Spanish exam.) He only started acting as you would expect Spidey to during the final act of the movie.

He went after Vulture because it was the right thing to do. Without the Stark suit and leaving Liz at Homecoming. I swear the people like you who keep elating Peter trying to be included in bigger missions was just him trying to impress Tony. Tony was his big push into do bigger things as a Super and his first big ally.
