Nomura is actually passionate about the story in kingdom hearts so of course he's going to take it seriously. If KH wasn't so serious and made fun of it's own absurdity all the time like an MCU film it would be total crap

I mean when you think about it, it kind of makes sense that Sora isn't the intellectually smart kind of protagonist. For one, for the past 2 games he's been beaten both physically and mentally by personifications of abstract evils that we're going to destroy the universe. He had his mind wiped in a magic castle by a bunch of pricks that wanted to use him as a puppet, then rebuilt slowly over the course of year BUT only the bits that were tampered with to get him in that state. Hes had to rely on his own instincts and self preservation tactics since him and Riku haven't gotten a proper school education since before the destruction of Destiny Islands back in 1 so it's a wonder how much Sora would retain General Studies type stuff when you are fighting Eldritch Monsters on a daily basis with A talking Duck and Dog with a giant ass Keyblade 2 YEARS STRAIGHT. Then you got to wonder stuff like if Sora's family couldve afforded stuff like a computer, was the tech available in Destiny Islands before it's destruction.

By all accounts Sora's dumb, but he certainly isn't retarded man, he's just been dealt with a crappy hand and traded knowledge most teens his age would know by now for fighting prowess and Magic.
