In 06 Sonic is not even the main focus, it's evenly split between him, Shadow and Silver. Also Silver is canonically so strong that he defeats Sonic without breaking a sweat. They had to shoehorn a nonsense cutscene in Sonic's line so there's gameplay continuity - immediately after winning, Silver knocks him out anyway.

Tails is slower than Sonic in every game he's in, and Flying is slow as fuck where level design isn't even verticle and open enough to have it be anytihng more than normalfags easy mode.

Cream is a shit comparasion because Sonic Advance 2 is a boost game. All characters play the same because physics take a backburner on usefulness and ultimately underminds Sonic's gameplay as a result. Also you'd realize what make her "the broken character" was purely the Chao she has being able to rape bosses. That's literally it.

Sonic + Elemental shields by default make him the most OP character. Including if Drop Dashing and super peel outing are also available.

Honestly that is sales pitch talk. In practice, that results in a terribly boring version of Tails that both demands undue screen time for his generic as fuck "arc" and makes him rather unlikable.

Tails is not the main character, not should he ever become the main character. He doesn't need confidence issues that reset with every bloody game because -surprise- once you solve those confidence issues the plot can't progress forward because status quo is god. Seeing that fruitless, generic, coming of age story is boring as fuck so it is best avoided.

In classic games he’s the exact same speed when you play as just him, in Adventure he’s the same speed except when Sonic rubberbands, in rivals he’s the same speed, in Heroes he’s just below him.

It is true that modern Tails is very unlikable. But it is a misdiagnosis to attribute that cause to him being a genius mechanic.

The cause is the writing of modern Sonic games, from Colors, Generations, to Lost World has been pretty terrible and deliberately minimalist and ironic overall.

The material they are given to work with is the root cause of why Tails, and Sonic's other friends, have done so poorly in these games. It really is as simple as that.

They ALL can reach a max top speed with momentum, but it's harder to reach it with Tails because his air traction slows him down a bit while Sonic and Knuckles stay unaffected. Tails has his unique ability bring him to a crawl so no, he's not better than Sonic. You can do what Tails can do (reach platforms vertically) with skillful use of your speed on slopes and inclines naturally with Sonic. Same with Knuckles, he climbs as slow as Tail's can fly, and gliding just offers more horizontal air movement to Tail's vertical movement. Both can be over come by Sonic with skillful use of momentum on slopes and inclines. Knuckles is really the only one that is actually better than Tails because he can reach any height without getting tired. And as of Advance series, Knuckles and also swim and spindash on walls, making him objectively better than Tails, but Sonic still has content that keeps him on the top of the line, thanks to skill. He'll always be the best thanks to pure skill, while everyone else is just a unobtrusive gimmick to add variety to the gameplay, unlike the modern era's attempts for the 3D games.

I didn't have to, if I said Elemental Shields, of course that includes the Insta Sheidl, it's what is used when you don't have a shield up. The point of Sonic is to go fast by many people. The problem is when the speed takes no skill to mantain, hense why Sonic is the best one. He flows into speed flawlessly in the classic games. Tails and Knuckles do NOT. When they use their spiecal moves it kills their speed.

Actually post it first then I'd believe that, but still, the advantage run in Sonic 2/Mania I've always had Sonic be fastest. It's highly defendant on the level design, which ultimately is the best in 3K/Mania, so it varies based on player.
