I thought Wolverine had to escape from Weapon X? Why is it that he was able to leave so easily on a whim?

In the scene you’ve posted he’s quitting Department H not Weapon X

He escaped from the Weapon X facility then joined Department H, aka Alpha Flight, after two of it's members found him wondering in the wild and took him in. Later in Claremont's run Alpha Fight would try to " recover" him twice

Not to mention every aspect of Canuckle-Head's existence has been retconned to hell and back.

First it was a secret Canadian facility
Then it was implied that Mr. Sinister or Apocalypse was behind it
Then it got turned into an American facility with ties to the same program that created Captain America
Then Romulus happened and something retarded about humans descended from canines not primates

And those are just the retcons I know about

Claremont wanted him for the X-Men team and there was no room for this issue for them to venture into it. They do try to get him back by having Alpha Flight do it.

Reminder that he was originally going to be a mutated wolverine before Claremont realised just how idiotic that was.

Got major details wrong there.

Len Wein created Wolverine, and wrote Giant Size X-Men #1. He didn't keep writing the X-Men once Marvel decided to turn X-Men from reprint book back to an ongoing comic with new material based upon Len's new team. Claremont got the gig, taking over in the next "issue", UXM #94.

As it is, Claremont didn't like Wolverine at first and wanted to get rid of him. But Len was a big name writer/shot caller at Marvel and Wolverine was his baby. So Claremont had to make the best of things and quickly killed off Thunderbird, because Claremont felt he didn't need TWO anti-authority asshole rebel types on the same team. And was already working up an idea of forcing Logan to go back to Department H.

It took John Byrne joining the book to save Wolverine from being cast off into obscurity. It was 100% Byrne who came up with the idea of playing up Logan's "code of honor" and introducing elements of Japanese cultural fetishism into Logan's personality. Claremont still wanted Logan gone (hence Guardian and Alpha Flight being created) but Byrne managed, by pure force of will, to make Claremont learn to love Logan.

>Byrne managed, by pure force of will, to make Claremont learn to love Logan.

Then Byrne quit the book over a text box narration.

>OP cannot even tell the difference between Department H, which is a Canadian government agency, and Weapon X, an American super soldier program.

Pure cringe. When the fuck did you start reading comics, last Tuesday?

>It was 100% Byrne who came up with the idea of playing up Logan's "code of honor" and introducing elements of Japanese cultural fetishism into Logan's personality
>Byrne managed, by pure force of will, to make Claremont learn to love Logan
Based Byrne
Stay mad.

Interesting how Wolverine and later Gambit, Cable eclipsed the other characters in popularity.

It could've worked if the High Evolutionary meddled in. Hell, he created an entire Earth opposite the original one.

What was in the text box that pissed Byrne off so much? Someone insulted his waifu?

if he wants the n word pass so bad, why doesn't he just ask his cousin tom for one

Wasn't it something to do with Colossus uprooting a tree stump?

No, it was a long standing issue where Claremont would write a plot and Byrne would have other ideas and start going off base so Claremont had to bring the story back to its intended course via the script. The text box was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

>Someone insulted his waifu?
yes, Kitty Pryde. Byrne consider her to be HIS creations. Claremont feels the same

Yes it was this page.

Stop making shit up

why are you people so obsessed with the word 'nigger' it's not like you ever stopped saying it

What do you mean, "you people"?

It was a combination of two things (which happened, in part because Byrne was drawing issues out of sequence)

1. Claremont snuck in dialogue into the second part of Days of Future Past (#142) which explicitly preserves the future as an alternate timeline. Byrne wanted the issue ended with the timeline wiped out entirely after they save Senator Kelly (hence why, for a while, the final page of Days of Future Past was omitted from reprints of the story; several editors shared Byrne's view and went out of their way to cut the finale page zinger Claremont wrote which explicitly states that, the DOFP timeline was the definitive future regardless and murdering Kelly won't make a difference, since if alive, he'll be one of the architects of the rise of the Sentinels

2. Colossus tearing out a tree stump; something Byrne intended to be a strenuous act that took all of Peter's strength but Claremont's narration text saying was child's play.

Byrne was already pissed the fuck off that Claremont overruled him over preserving the DOFP timeline and the Colossus bit was the final straw that caused him to tell Shooter he had to choose either Byrne or Claremont (which led to Shooter choosing Claremont and giving Byrne Fantastic Four to soothe his pissed off ego)

He famously had a sign hanging at conventions saying he would only draw Kitty Pryde for X-Men fans. The guy was obsessed.

>confusing weapon x program with department H

Well thanks to that we got Byrne's FF run which i still like.
