Because for all anyone cares, JP was the only truly great movie in the series, and it came out in 1993.
Lost World was good, but a mixed bag.
JP3 was a movie that was quite literally made up as they went along.
Jurassic World achieved about what Lost World did.
Fallen Kingdom was like a bunch of fucking dumb ideas.
At best, JP hasn't really been hype since 1997 when Lost World came out, and was kind of middling for everyone.

No it shouldnt have. JP really only works best as a self-contained movie, with maybe room for 1 or 2 sequels (which proved to be a bad idea).
