Tony was clearly monitoring new hero’s for sometime and chose Peter for a variety of reasons. Tony literally comments on how impressive the fluid and shooters are in the first ever scene with them... Tony being Tony just took his gear to the next level as he would. I like this even more in context because Peter wears that homemade suit for months on the street, in real life even a genius kid wouldn’t be able to put a suit like the one he gets together so Tony taking into account everything he was going for with the mechanical eyes for perception and shooters makes complete sense. Now that he’s familiar with it makes more sense he can continue to replicate it in his own as he is a genius not unlike Tony. The mentor ship role and surrogate relationship will make everything richer as time goes on. I.E if these rumours about Osborn being the Dark Mirror of Stark in the MCU are true, then Peter will have to watch his greatest nemesis and manipulator masquerade around as his greatest hero for awhile. Then have it spanned over a few months of Peter trying different business, with some failing immediately and others failing due to outside influences, but he still manages to get enough money to off set his other problems. Whatever comes next could be specifically related to his relationships, like not having enough time for his friends or wife, or having to offset his career and super hero work to help take care of his new born, etc. etc.
