The first 25 years of Spider-Man was pretty much the most consistently well written superhero comic ever. If it had ended after Kraven's Last Hunt it would have been the perfect superhero comic.

Yeah, X-Men was not one of Stan Lee's best creations. That books didn't really become worth reading until Giant Size X-men.

It wasn't Kirby's best work anyway. It was totally lacking in anything visually interesting. X-Men really was shit in the 60s.

I think the series started to come into its own during the Thomas/Adams run, but you are right in saying that the Bronze Age did far more to elevate the team

My gut says Ditko... but the Romita Snr era did introduce a bit more variety in recurring villains, as well as a fair chunk of character development.

Oh, Thomas for sure improved the series compared to Lee's run. But it just never really worked before the "All New, All Different" version of the team debuted in 1975 (or whenever it was).
