So... Is Steven Universe popular? I don't mean online amongst a niche audience of people over the age of 20, I mean amongst the actual target audience of children.
Because honestly, it just looks like content has been stretched as thinly as possible. Teen Titans Go started slighlty earlier and reached 160 episodes (the current total of episodes for SU) three years ago. Adventure Time reached 160 after four years. The PPG reboot (if it gets to continue) would eclipse 160 episodes next year. The current Ben 10 will get 160 episodes around the three and a half year mark. Even Uncle Grandpa got close after a little less than five years.
It's kind of hard to tell without hard numbers. I've heard it does pretty well on the app and it's the number 1 or 2 most popular show on the network but again: Hard numbers. Can't do much without those.
Liam Gonzalez
I hear children talk about it at the movie theater all the time. All my young cousins love it too.
Well the hard number we do have are the TV ratings and airdates.
The show does air in a way as to hype it up but only gets mediocre ratings anyway... So... Yeah, not very popular. And mediocre ratings for CN and other kid's networks are about 0.5 these days, meaning they're all going down the toilet in a few years.
If you want to count Adult Swim as Cartoon Network, then R&M is the most popular show to come out of CN since 2012.
Blake Long
My friend's little brothers love it. And they're kinda the only kids I know so...
Owen Garcia
It gets better ratings lately than pretty much any other show on the network.
Jaxson Davis
It's especially hard because I want to get trashed and slam dance with Jenny to 90's thrash metal or some good ol' Motorhead. She's canonically into the latter.
She's like the only townie not to get an episode either. Just gets lumped in with the cool kids.
Hunter Martin
Yes, because they air the episodes in these weird hype batches. "Season 5" started in May 2017 and ended in January 2019, that's only 32 episodes over 21 months, what kind of fucked up bullshit is that?
TTGO got about the same ratings around the same time and had actually aired about 50 episodes in that same timeframe.
When the next batch of SU episodes comes out (early next year) the ratings will probably be around 0,3. I'm not even joking that's the how sharp the decline is for both CN as a whole and SU.
Cooper Lopez
t. pedo
Logan Gomez
are you the same guy currently losing his shit in the ok ko thread? because if so you are hilariously delusional
Austin Rivera
I miss the threat where we discussed how different SU would be if Coop from Megas XLR was Steven's dad instead of Greg. Also Jamie striking out with every gem in the galaxy, except for the only one he doesn't want.
Evan Davis
The lowest SU's ever gone is like 4-500k last I checked. It's still a popular show, I don't know why this is a big deal. It has characters people like, music they enjoy and it's at least pleasant enough to watch even on a base level. The issue with COTC and other shows like OK KO is that they don't have SU's strengths which is why they get mid-poor ratings no matter what.
David Clark
>The lowest SU's ever gone is like 4-500k last I checked. Wow, that's sad if you really think that's relevant. If that's considered popular on Cartoon Network then the channel might as well get shut down right now.
Carson Cooper
Star VS got in the 300k range consistently, what's your point? TV is shit across the board.
Wyatt Campbell
that's actually pretty relative to disney number too, same with nick, i don't know why your so obsessed with shitting on this show but you do a very poor job of disguising it.
Nicholas Thompson
It probably could have been if TTG hadn't regularly eaten 75% of the daily timeslots. And if they aired more than 5 episodes every 6 months. The first 2 seasons where it got a regular thursday night timeslot for new episodes was fine, but they fucked it up.
Liam Allen
The point is that the standard ratings for shows on kid's networks used to be around 2.0 about six years ago and they used to cancel show if they dipped below 1.5. Now they struggle to even reach and average rating 0.5 and it will probably be around 0.2 next year.
My point is that a show being the most popular on the network means nothing if the network might actually get shut down within the next three years.
John Baker
if your fucking nickelodeon 6 years ago maybe
Noah Jones
It seems to be more popular amongst teenagers (especially girls) than children.
Jose Gonzalez
>Is Steven Universe popular? It sells a lot of merch and there's a lot of free advertising for it, so CN makes their money. That and the show probably costs pennies to produce(Sugar et. all are probably paid dirt). It hits that sweet spot where you don't need to watch every episode but there's an overall story arc.
Logan Nelson
That's because Tv finally figured out that it's not numbers its fan rabidness that sells for them. Unless you can consistently hit millions it's far far better to have a solid five hundred thousand that'll buy every single piece of plastic the company shits out(or at least, you can convince a toy or media company to pay license fees to shit out product). Everything in SU is brightly monotone or duotoned color, with simple shapes-making it perfect for making cheap shit to shovel to kids and fans.
Carson Taylor
This shit isn't made for children, don't kid yourself OP. This is made for 20 year old college aged adults.
Michael Foster
My kids like the show.
Carter Walker
I work in a busy tourist area and see this fucking thing every other day on all kinds of weirdos but mostly weirdo kids.
I went to a weeb festival and saw a young black girl with a Rose Quartz poster. It was one of those ones where a Chinese printer steals a bunch of fanart, and this one was clearly supposed to be printed on a daki.
Noah Wood
God I fucking hate Steven so goddamn much. I hope Kiki shoves that whole box down his throat and let him choke to death. Yeah the CG would probably kill her for doing that but she'd be doing the world a favor by ridding the world of that disgusting half-breed.
Steven universe is over the top popular. Or at least, it was. Obviously popularity decreases over time.
Leo Wright
Only when adults cooked it for him. And the crystal gems dont cook.
Kevin Rodriguez
See that little faggot with the earring and the makeup? Yeah, that's his own hair. That little faggot has his own gem empire. That little faggot's Tiger Millionaire.
Hudson Perry
I've been meaning to get one, recently. Does anybody know if the official one is decent? The color on it looks shit - it appears more red than whatever the real Stevenshirt color is. And i struggle to find any plain, blank t-shirt in the right color.
Ah. That business with the diamonds seemed pretty "epilogue" to me. I wonder if it'll be mostly filler or if there's gonna be some new conflict?
Jonathan Brooks
>Change Your Mind >Cyan Yellow Magenta >blue yellow pink >K is black >black is missing >the absence or opposite of black is white DEEPEST LORE
William Cooper
If I had to hazard a guess it'll be filling in the gaps with stuff like Amethyst's story before meeting the CG's, Jasper getting fleshed out and so on. The old Yea Forums insider rumor was nine seasons overall so I guess we'll see.
Jayden Gutierrez
I mean, I don't think he specifically HAS to eat. Amethyst doesn't either so she just indulges herself on whatever.
Levi Cruz
Nah he does. He's stronger than any human alive but if he doesn't keep his human side fed and watered it'll wither away.
Blake Bennett
True. I guess that's why he's fat as well.
Liam Stewart
then why don't they make any merchandise for steven universe
Liam Rodriguez
Less fat than he was in S1. I guess actually going on missions had a good effect on him
Why did they give so many characters dick sucking lips tho?
Grayson Sanders
Me too.
William Morales
>Garnet's glasses gets mad
Hudson Allen
Some of the character designs (Pearl, the Diamonds, Lapis, Peridot) are A+ but others (Steven, Lars, Amethyst) are the most revolting thing I have ever seen.
Also, the show is too gay.
Nicholas Walker
American body type.
Joseph Young
I used to like this show until I realized its fanbase was mostly fags and dykes, so I stopped watching it.
Carter Lopez
From what I hear, not at all and the ones that were was just following a fad that died after Jasper's reveal
Nathaniel Moore
>a good effect multiple- rewatch S1 and you'll see how much more of an annoying puss he is. We really watch Steven grow up and he goes from being my least favorite to my most favorite character.
Ethan Cox
I liked S1's filler episodes a little. Lars and the cool kids is my favorite overall, especially since it subverts the usual "cool kid" tropes and they're genuinely cool people.
Andrew Harris
>stopped liking a show because of other people wow
Samuel Robinson
Unironically Lars was always the best character and he had the best redemption arc of the series
Aiden Bell
>was a huge fan of the show >started to lose all interest around the time Peridot loses her limb enhancers >re-watch up until that point (halfway through S2) >realize that there was a lot more awful episodes before then too that I forgot about I think I'm actually just a huge fan of a small handful of episodes and Mirror Gem. I really liked the "Crystal Gems visit some ancient and magical ruins" shit. "Steven and the Stevens" is probably my favorite.
All it took was a killer concussion and he went from teenage slacker to space pirate.
Anthony Jackson
thats pretty cringe man, unironically
Levi Williams
I liked him before, but I loved him after. Was so worried he'd be suddenly be perfect but they kept his anxiety and he actually worked through that too. So satisfying.
