I dunno, this movie is not The Other or even the Paul Jenkins run.

By not letting Gwen acknowledge Peter or vice versa.

Low bar.

It's almost as if she had to kill the Peter in her universe and it hurts just looking at the other Peters.

Modern comics are made by fanboys with no creativity
Modern capeshit is made by casuals with no creativity
This was made by fans who have creativity

Underrated bait, but I like The Other for the goofy JMS stuff.

It cared, it's that simple.

>By hiring almost triple the usual amount of animators for this kind of project.
>By not spending a quarter to third of the movie setting up sequels and an extended universe
>By distancing itself from the usual characterization of Miles Morales because Homecoming's Spider-man got popular
and made first
>By letting Peter Parker grow up.
>By trying to innovate and be more experimental in things like animation style, slapstick, dialogue, thought bubbles, emulation of comicbook-esque 2-D printing.
>By showing more obscure villains like Tombstone for nostalgia points, but keeping the overarching plot down to one villain.
>By partly making fun of Spider-man's permeation in pop culture
>Very serviceable music

Good post

Plus they gave Miles an actual hero arc, he wasn't immediately great at being Spiderman or using his powers. Star Wars could take a lesson.

This. Especially the whole "not wasting time on the setup" part. We all know who Spider-man is.

It's actually not so much partly making fun of Spider-man's permeation in pop-culture as much as it's highlighting that the pop-culture is not what's important about the character. Raimifags need to get a fucking clue.

But... The Other is legitimately one of my favorite Spidey stories. Why would you hate it? It didn't even retcon anything.

Not just one waifu, but infinite waifus

Because it was made for the ADD generation. It’s covered in references and faux sentimentality to cover how paper thin the plot was. The movie was alright but reeked of desperation rather than insperation and showed no real reverence to the franchise it was desperately selling the nostalgia over. It also helped that it was the fourth time the story was done over that many mediums so the writers didn’t have to stretch themselves interns of creativity, just set up miles kill of peters and that’s it.

The movie wasn’t terrible mind you, but what the fuck has been going on? This is the third school thread for it in the last day or so

The movie's main plot is solid though.

>kill of peters
You're just mad that a Peter Parker died.

I liked the PS4 game better

Yea I get that this got you plenty of upvotes with all the right epin film intellectual buizzwords but it it's all complete bullshit. "faux sentimentality" and "desperation." Say specifically what's wrong with the movie or get the fuck out of here.

But if you’re going to just turn RIpeter into Batman then why not have him use any of the tools that you show in his batcave? He had three armors and a fucking stealth suit. And if it was so important for the multiversap spider people to get back wuickly how was Gwen able to stay in that dimension for a fucking week without any glitches

A little bit yes, but it would be nice if in the five years that Miles has been around in canon they’ve ever taken the opportunity to write I’m INTO peters life and not over it. And over it legacy hero’s happen, but miles hasn’t done or added anything to the franchise that justifies Pete’s death

watched it, it was mediocre at best, not sure why is everybody wetting their pants.

Slight breath of fresh air so everyone's desperate to suck its dick for more okay movies.

Why bother with multiversal stuff? Why not bother with time travel? You’d think Fisk would want to get HIS family back not replace them with something else that has no connection to him

Why did MJ go to the dinner thrown by Fisk? She absolutely would’ve known he was at least partially responsable for peters death. If aunt may knew she knew

Why turn aunt may into Alfred? Obviously to help train miles but it seems like a disservice to the character

Why would Aaron take Miles so close to his work place? You’d think he wouldn’t want to get miles mixed up with the kingpin if he cared about him so much

The desperation thing wasn’t a complete knock, nessecity is the mother of invention. The studio was getting hammered by never having a hit and needed to pull something out. Spiderverse was that something and I’m not going to lie the animation did look pretty good. Utilizing different styles was clever. Sure it didn’t make that much money but that Oscar is justification of allllllllll of the terrible spiderman spin offs coming in the next two years and I don’t see it being worth that

Oh you have nitpicks. Ok.

This movie, the DCAU and the Incredibles prove that animation is the only correct medium for adapting comics. I wish the people that made this controlled the whole Marvel U film series.

>A little bit yes,
Not a little bit. Your entire problem is that a Peter Parker died.

>Why bother with multiversal stuff? Why not bother with time travel?
To use the fan favorite characters of Spider-Gwen, Spider-man Noir, and Miles. Also to avoid the "Ohmygerd, dey killed my Peter" crowd by introducing multiple Spider-men.
>Why did MJ go to the dinner thrown by Fisk?
A Charity front is still a charity. She did it for the greater good.
>Why turn aunt may into Alfred?
Don't have a straight answer for that one. I kind of got the impression she lied about the web shooters and was just giving Miles the first/teen years ones from Peter. She can't work up a Smart Phone to download Not-Tinder so why can she do anything else Tech-related?
>Why would Aaron take Miles so close to his work place?
It was still special for being the place he and his brother used to hang out in. Right there in the dialogue.

I'd watch a whole movie of fat Peter

>How did they do it? How did a movie give us the best Spidey story in decades?
By hiring Lord and Miller. They are absolute masters when it comes to writing for animation.

There masters when it comes to writing reference filled stories wrapped up humorously

Why bother killing peter at all? Why not just write an older peter struggling? If you’re going to make the training so fucking central to Miles why bother with it at all? And since when is spider Gwen a fan favorite? She’s just a pretty costume that’s it, get that cuck shit outta here

The same reason Brad Bird killed off Gusteau in Ratatouille. The movie wasn't about him, so he had to go.

Make a spiderman movie not about spiderman yet still be about spiderman? Jesus Christ I hate this shit so much, at least Batman’s side characters get there own names what’s the nightwing equivelent for spiderman? Or at least the *shudder* signal equivalent

>best spidey story
>Not superior foes of spider man

Attached: 1560577111738.jpg (440x440, 15K)

That isn't Spider-Man 2

Nice job not addressing anything else he said

Oh, you're just still mad it's about Miles and not Peter. Tough luck.

>implying that piecemeal non-English required address
The guy is just mad any Peter Parker died.

I just mad for a movie “about” Miles “overcoming” peter, how much peter he relied on because Miles is a boring fucking character. Hell look through any of his threads and as that the only thing he’s got going for him is his waifu shit, and every single pairing is with an old peter character or someone completely unrelated. The point of spiderman is supposed to be the man under the mask not the mask itself or the wearers skin color and that’s all Miles has ever been about

I know I'm an oldfag but if I didn't like this movie I would hide the thread and never think about it ever again. Not come in the thread and (You) every single post with my public tantrum and ruin a potentially decent thread for other anons because I have nothing better to do.

IT'S NOT A STORY ABOUT SPIDER-MAN EVEN YOU FUCKING RETARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>I'm an oldfag
>I wouldn't tell people their taste is shit
Get the fuck out newfag

Neither is spiderverse!

If u don’t want to hear contrary opinions and endless bickering u must learn slow ‘old fag’ cause there is no way in hell u have been here more then five days and not picked up on Yea Forums vibe.

Welcome to the new normal, where every discussion is somehow worse than the day before

This is a new begaining for miles. This isn’t the comic book miles, this is the movie miles. It’s like saying ‘oh wait, where is death? I thot these movies were about thanos and the movie nfinity gauntlet. So ur arguments of ‘miles is this and that’ don’t work in this instance

But if you’re going to make a movie about peter Parker training his successor then why kill him off at the beginning? Why not wait till a movie or so in so you can make the death a part of the story and not just a false start? But I get it Miles is all about the erasure of peter

The other notable animated movies at the time were Wreck it Ralph 2 and Incredibles 2, both of which were far more mediocre

So is this thread where we like Spider-Verse or is this the one where we hate it because hurrrr black people/Miles?'

Deserves legend status just for dropping the bagel on Disney at the Oscars

Attached: spiderverse.png (1357x567, 1.37M)

They were both great.

Why'd they make Gwen half of Peter's age and made them just friends instead of a couple? What kind of teen girl even becomes such close friends with a 35 year old dude anyways?

Because it set the stakes
Because it gave us the perfect peter parker, a great person, and they killed him off, telling you that good guys can die in this movie
Then we're given Peter B, a depressed tired spider man, who's life has fallen apart in his universe and unabashedly wants to fucking die
But the thing is, Miles is the one who refuses to let him do that, because the guilt of standing by during Spidermans death sticks with him, even when he wasnt ready he went after Peter at the lab, and refused to let him get himself killed in the final battle and makes him go home

One peter died like a bitch, the second one died as a school shooter and the third lived to see his first love fall in love with someone else. Miles sure is great for the Parker legacy I tell you hwat

Because Gwen was a single outlier from the last time Kingpin used the machine. The reason why all the multiverse spideys were glitching out was because was because that universe was overloaded with other shit from the second use.

>Why bother with multiversal stuff?
>Why bother with the fundamental premise of the movie
'I don't like the premise' is not a meaningful criticism of a film retard.

Attached: 1531523042072.jpg (500x335, 33K)

Bitch what

Do you have any hard facts to back up the claim Lizard Peter was 35, or is your brain still fundamentally incapable of comprehending the possibility that Peter B Parker is the real Peter Parker?

>I don’t like the premise isn’t a meaningful criticism of the film
>taking a character who fundamentally was always supposed to be about what would happen if you gave one person the power to help everyone but himself
>turn it into a fucking universal constant where the “mantle” it never was is some sort of indicator of a chosen on

Yeah that’s not ripe for criticism

She was from the first time it was used and we saw all of the spiderpeople glitch a bunch well before the final battle. Why would Gwen’s spider sense lead her to a school rather than back to the source of the event that brought her to that universe?

If it has the Peter Parker name it is sacred. He is basically God and so the very possibility of bad things happening to Peter Parker is sacrilege.

>>taking a character who fundamentally was always supposed to be about what would happen if you gave one person the power to help everyone but himself
>>turn it into a fucking universal constant where the “mantle” it never was is some sort of indicator of a chosen on
What the fuck are you babbling about? Did you not understand the plot of a fucking children's movie you retard?

She was from the same experiment as all the others but thrown into the past. The glitches seemed pretty sparse as they were so there's nothing to say she hadn't been glitching for a whole week. Her Spidey-sense told her to infiltrate a school because like all Spidey-sense it works on supernatural intuition.

Lmao that's dumb

More like peter Parker is spiderman and killing him for the sole purpose of giving someone else his name better come with something better than “its alright here’s the real peter Parker right here” but you niggas just like the bad juju he brings with him

Yes spiderman isn’t a chance happening anymore, it’s a pre ordianed name that one person has to have in a universe. Did you not watch the movie? Life isn’t about making something for yourself it’s about being spiderman because the person under the mask doesn’t matter only the mask does

It's true though.
Peter can't be a school shooter in another dimension, because he's Peter Parker.
Peter can't die in another dimension, because he's Peter Parker.
Peter can't grow up, get married with Mary Jane, get divorced from Mary Jane, get back together with Mary Jane, and of course all Gwen's in all dimensions belong to him, because he's Peter Parker.
Peter can however sell his marriage to the devil. That's 100% AoK.

>Peter Parker is Spiderman
No. RIPeter is not Spider-man. He's a pastiche of a superhero stereotype based partially on Raimiman and a grown Ultimate Spider-Man. The Bendis teen idiot character Mk1. He's a low test version of Peter Parker, and was Spider-man in name only.
You are literally just mad that any Peter Parker died.

I’m more mad about Gwen honestly but why couldn’t there have been a meaningful connection between miles and Pete? Why is his origin tied to being a usurper? I get legacy characters happen and I accept that with this Oscar win we’re never getting rid of the little fucker so why can’t he actually have some real connective tissue with peter? Let an older peter have to deal with raising May training miles and maybe dying in the line of duty to protect them both. Rather than just cut him down in his prime to build miles

The only one who was cut down was RIPeter. Actual Peter Parker, the Spider-man, is still alive and contributed as Miles' mentor in the film as well as receiving much needed character development in return. The ACTUAL Peter got character development from Miles and vice versa.
You're just fixated on that any Peter Parker died.

no I’m fixated on trying to build a legacy character that feels no need to actually be a legacy to the character. He had no struggles with identity in the movie just relevancy he believed he deserved. The number of “fake” to “real” peters in the movie is three to one they tried there hardest to build miles and the only way they could think to do it is to tear peter down. Which I’d have no problem with if they actually attempted to do something with it but not kill Just kill peter and then use peter, it just seems like the wrong order. But then that’s what Bendis creates the character to be, a usurper

And I already told you why I was mad, I find 4chans obsession with The Who cuck thing hilarious but this movie relies pretty heavily on it

>no I’m fixated on trying to build a legacy character that feels no need to actually be a legacy to the character
Actually you're obsessed over a fictional character dying, and not even the proper fictional character but an alternate universe take.
The rest is just pretext.

How is it the “alternate universe” version of the character if that universe is the primary universe in the movie?

Because the movie takes place in an alternate universe.
That's something called point of view. We as viewers and comic experts have an external perspective and know that Spider-man the character is represented by Peter B Parker. With the exception of certain autists that can't separate this and so any Peter Parker dying is a fucking monumental travesty that must not pass regardless of how much the story depends on it.

Every movie takes place in an alternate universe user, this movie just has several

>WHITE SPIDER-MAN FAILURE!
>BLACK SPIDER-MAN BETTER!

Yeah, Spider-Verse was woke as fuck. My wife's boyfriend gave me the blu ray to watch in the living room while they have sex and I thought it was great.

Helps if it's one of the few good Spidey stories in decades

No previous movies integrated that fact into the premise of the story.
For all you know, Raimiman and Garfieldman were both intended as taking place in 616, but simply did so incorrectly.
ItSV takes place in an incorrectly done Ultimate universe, but since Ultimate Spider-man was shit from the start it's an improvement. It makes itself clear that it doesn't take place in 616, and it's got a very heavy subtext on that its perfect blonde Peter is not the real classic Spider-man whose legacy Miles is meant to take on.

So how do you guys liked the Spiderman Annual?

Attached: from pig to mole and now cat.jpg (461x608, 61K)

Miles is about the continuance of Spider-Man and the spider totem in that universe.

So what you’re saying is that the plot of Miles getting him killed is so integral to the story that they had to come up with justifiers that he isn’t the real spiderman? And here I just thought it was Sony desperate to make a movie with the largest number of spin offs possible. Miles is and always will be a detriment to peter until they can come up with a way to write them together.

You are literally just seething because any Peter Parker died.

No I’m seething over the movie being a giant metaphor for cuckolding

I think perhaps you just have cuckolding on the brain and you're seeing things that arent actually there

Attached: cuck.png (464x270, 80K)

Telling the hero's origin in like 2 minutes.
Not even bothering with villain origins, just revealing aspects of their background as PART of a tight story.
You can tell a great Spidey story if you aren't bogged down with "how did he get his powers/how did he design his webshooters/fluid/where did he get the suit/armor/lets define his relationship with a pile of supporting characters/lets show how his villain became a villain-wait lets tie them to Spidey's origin so we can dwell on that more!"

Attached: Sherman.png (205x203, 87K)

As a caveat to my own post, they DID tie Miles and Prowler together, but we weren't subjected to a Prowler origin story, or even need to have his super-suit explained to us.
Spider-verse juggles twice the villains of an average Spider-Man movie because it just lets them be COOL, without a bunch of bathos and shit.
A studio attempting a Spidey vs. Sinister Six movie should take note.

Attached: Ted_groovy_gang.png (250x299, 119K)

Why was the animation so choppy, like it was going at 10 FPS? The movie had a big budget so it obviously was an artistic choice and not something done to cut costs, but why?

>Why was the animation so choppy
> it obviously was an artistic choice
You answered it yourself. There are commentaries that get into detail about it.

That's what I am asking, what was the artistic goal of making the animation choppy like that?

>images actually framed like comic book panels

What was the last movie to do this? Raimi?

aaaaaaaand the mysterious party guest removes his masquerade mask at last.
fuck off, faggot.

The movie spends a solid 10 minutes at LEAST going over everyone's origins a million times like we need to visually spend film time going it over each individual origin and differentiate them as well as setting it up as a multiverse. It's literally setting up sequels and cinematic universe shit the entire time. It's even titled SPIDER-VERSE.

Attached: 1af87bc3977998a143709a0312515387_0.jpg (736x1091, 127K)

It makes poses and movements more snappy, and is also done to make the more experienced spiderman look fluid, while Miles at first struggles

10 minutes vs. entire movies setting up characters

Is Miles a homo? He looks like he wants it. Wants it bad. Right in his spider hole.

>By having super cute penis Parker to carry the show.

Attached: peni-parker-bodi-pillow-5c1ada1b9ffe2.png (653x900, 109K)

At least if u fail to pleasure ur whore of a wife U can spend time with spiderpeople.

It sure isn't as good as people would like to pretend but it gave us Boomer Peter which was pretty rad. To bad about the other less interesting Spider-People. Hate it when a Superhero gets devalued by having million other copies to replace them. Miles was okay but he can't come close to the greatness of Peter Parker and that kinda makes him pointless.

Attached: 1549599377981.gif (400x400, 1.4M)

Definitely better than his comic self though

Sure but a piece of shit is also better than comic Miles, so there is only going up. I won't credit the film for doing the old tired origin story but this time with a passing of the torch aspect. Just because it isn't awful at it, doesn't mean the movie deserves praise for this.

They hired competent artists and writers from outside the festering cesspit that is the comics industry

That’s literally the reason they paired miles and Gwen, pic related

Though killing peter and then showing that MJ never really loved him was excessive

Attached: 46FAAB11-EE9F-461F-B9D3-F0DC7327E6C4.png (607x775, 462K)

I think you might be retarded

They arent going to pair 28 nor 38 year old Peter with a goddamn 15 year old

>showing that MJ never really loved him

Attached: 1490851552173.gif (381x522, 676K)

How about just don’t use that character and instead go with the at least 5 spider theme women hero’s instead? Two of them are in universe and would pair well with a reluctant miles one is peters daughter and pairing her with miles would be a interesting way of bridging the legacy

We’re all stuck here in hell together buddy

>Ditko and Lee's stuff
>Romita and Lee's stuff
>Gerry Conway's stuff
>Stern and JRJR's stuff
>Kraven’s Last Hunt

Is literally anything else worth reading?

some people don't like mysticism mixed with their spider-man unfortunately

I wish they picked wither the dad or uncle storyline and went with it to give one the time it deserved. I also could have used a scene or two about the Kingpin and his family.

Is The Other what they call the JMS arc with Ezekiel now or is that something else?

>>By not spending a quarter to third of the movie setting up sequels and an extended universe
>>By showing more obscure villains like Tombstone for nostalgia points, but keeping the overarching plot down to one villain
I think this was a big one. Unlike all of the previous Spiderman movies, it didn't take time to give origins for the villains. It just threw us into his world and left us to assume (rightly) "oh yeah, he's fought guys and here are a few of them." I don't think I'd realized before what a fucking slog it was to sit through origins before. But that's the traditional Hollywood thinking that you need to get in an origin story.

No the Other is a pre-Civil War crossover with JMS/Peter David/Hudlin where Morlun comes back and kills Peter who is then resurrected. It's not considered very good when it was released.

Oh ok. How do fans feel about the JMS Coming Home / Ezekiel stuff before Sins Past? Those were the Spidey comics I grew up reading and the last I'm familiar with.

They wrote a movie that didn't try to tell his story over from the beginning, and assumed the audience could follow a complex plot.

>How did a movie give us the best Spidey story in decades?
because it's a Miles movie and it's fresh and new. Peter's origin story is old and everyone fucking kows it hence why the MCU version skipped it entirely and jumped straight to Pete's life as a stablished Spider-Man instead of just starting up, making it the best live action Spider-Man ever.
