It explains why Kamala didn't listen in the first chapter, it recalls that they were trying to tell her something and it suggests some kind of clarification to follow at a later time.

Pure bait but that how comics are. I really hope this isn’t as straight forward as it appears to me, Kamala’s Dialogue indicates that she hasn’t discovered what’s going on, or that she followed her father and found him actually cheating.

This would be an incredibly elaborate ruse to pull and hard to justify in a comic book released after the 90s.
Silver-Age bullshit twists won't work now.
The concept of simulations is too well understood and the questions for the reasoning too pressing.
The amount of shit that would have been altered about this just because her parents are in it on a whim would be insane.
If it were ONLY Kamala, a simulation by her viral adversary could be plausible.
But them tagging along? Impossible to predict and making everything harder.

She was doing a lot more in her first arc than just big hands, and then they regressed her because they felt it "didn't suit her character". Now she's only barely starting to get herself back up to that level.

She has a healing factor. I guess she could have been seriously injured for all we know, since didn't give us a lot to go on.

All her other powers shut down to heal. Pretty clear that she just outright tanked the explosion somehow, which is a pretty major upgrade from a single bullet putting her in a struggle just to stand.
