JSA Storytime: Gen13

Good evening owls,

we continue to explore the range of kinks in this book

Attached: Gen_13_33_ic1.jpg (975x1516, 458K)

it's a giant babby!

Attached: Gen_13_33_p02.jpg (975x1521, 361K)

Hello, Storyteller.

More Millennium Legion designs were revealed today. Thoughts?

Attached: 1561445278182.jpg (2048x1882, 276K)

Purple and white has to be Phantom Girl, the disco cut outs. The others are largely obvious except the blue and white, maybe Ayla?

Not a fan of the kind of similar looks on Star Boy and Sun Boy, but a full starfield could change that.

Attached: Gen_13_33_p03.jpg (973x1519, 406K)

I mean, who hasn't been drunk, angry, frustrated, and paranoid

Attached: Gen_13_33_p04.jpg (976x1522, 449K)

Attached: Gen_13_33_p05.jpg (976x1520, 487K)

I've got Blok, Gates, and Wildfire confirmed already so I'm pretty happy castwise.

I don't like that Tinya is just purple. Like, I'm always bitching about how the Legion should have more proper aliens, but humans with weird skin colors is lazy. Could've made her look like a space ghost(not that one), or something.

Also, Blok is just a pile of rocks. How inspired.

It's like Fant4stic The Thing

Yeah, I think that's my sideye at Star Boy and Sun Boy too, it's that kind of special fx skin color that feels like a dodge. It works on Shady, but we also occasionally got to dig into her planet's culture and weird shit, which was nice.

Attached: Gen_13_33_p06.jpg (973x1520, 502K)

101 degrees today, AC unit doesn't get here till tomorrow, hopefully I'll still be alive. Cats are loving it, though.

Looks like the typical bad modern fan reimaginings.
Really can't figure out what they're even going for with Imra there.
Overall, the Legion have looked worse, but the whole thing just feels very uninspired and like it's from the perspective of an outsider looking at the Legion as something that needs to be fixed and remade.

>a good leader can't be angry, frustrated, and paranoid
And yet, DC keeps insisting that Batman is the leader of the Justice League. Almost as if the self-obsessed jackass with the people skills of a drunk gnat has no business being in charge of anything whatsoever.

Also, there's a giant baby. It's comic books. Of course there's a giant baby. Why the fuck not.

Attached: Gen_13_33_p07.jpg (971x1516, 473K)

It's literal Shrinking Violet

yay made it home just in time-ish

those are ugly, Sook is overrated

The designs aren't TOO bad. But the buzz cuts need to go!

Tasmia gets away with it because talokians have always been mystical and such. Incidentally, hers is the only redesign that looks legit good.

>the whole thing just feels very uninspired and like it's from the perspective of an outsider looking at the Legion as something that needs to be fixed and remade
So... Bendis.

Fuck, you're right. I can't unsee it now. Thanks, Dave.

...also possible

the endless fucking sidecuts, watch them shear Dreamy of her glorious hair

Attached: Gen_13_33_p08.jpg (971x1518, 499K)

Hey OP.
I wouldn't trust Grunge with a regular baby, never mind a giant one.

Shady is barely even a redesign, that's like a light tweak

Attached: Gen_13_33_p09.jpg (971x1519, 403K)

GIANT DOGS!!!!

Attached: Gen_13_33_p10.jpg (972x1520, 443K)

Agreed. Again, I actually like sidecuts, but they really only work when they fit the character, like Crush. Why the fuck would Imra, Garth, and Rokk be rocking sidecuts? That makes no sense!

>Shady is barely even a redesign, that's like a light tweak
Hence, why it works. It's basically just her Reboot design, but now she has those cool shadow clouds surrounding her.

It's already better than anything johns ever did

Grunge has leveled up in stupid this run

Attached: Gen_13_33_p11.jpg (962x1518, 389K)

>Why the fuck would Imra, Garth, and Rokk be rocking sidecuts?
I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it's them saying "what would fashion look like in the year 3019?", but if that were the case why would they pick a fashion that is already common right now?
So it's more likely just 40 year old men's idea of what teens today think is cool.

unironically this

Attached: Gen_13_33_p12.jpg (971x1520, 437K)

I hate almost all of them, except Shady, who did apparently immune to bad designs.

It's really hard to fuck up Shady's look

Dreamy should be an easy one too

Attached: Gen_13_33_p13.jpg (970x1517, 446K)

Attached: Gen_13_33_p14.jpg (970x1520, 388K)

Attached: Gen_13_33_p15.jpg (966x1518, 397K)

attention, attention, exploitable panels

Attached: Gen_13_33_p16.jpg (964x1521, 410K)

He's also being a huge asshole for no reason. Grunge really is the worst. 90s kids must've looooved this crap though.

>So it's more likely just 40 year old men's idea of what teens today think is cool.
Again, Bendis, and Sook.

It's especially stupid, because as you say, they're from the future, not today. They're also a bunch of nerds who read some history books and said "Hey, we can do that!". They are not "hip", and nobody asked them to be.

when does Frank leave and Gen13 gets sexy again

At the same time? Me. I rarely drink, only two hangovers that I can remember. Don't much need booze for the other three though.

Attached: Gen_13_33_p17.jpg (968x1522, 440K)

Attached: Gen_13_33_p18.jpg (967x1521, 466K)

I like Mon-El's puffy sleeves and Dirk a cute

Credit to Frank, his weird faces lead to prime reaction fodder.

Huh. Has Tasmia ever had a straight up bad design?

>Dreamy should be an easy one too
'Should' being the key word here.

Attached: whatever you say, pal.jpg (719x428, 51K)

Oh shit, Gates has been confirmed?

Attached: Gen_13_33_p19.jpg (969x1521, 465K)

I am dying at Grunge's WTF face

Yoshida seems to be backtracking a bit
He seems to have been offended by Newsarama reporting that Marvel is now offering bigger discounts on Marvel #1000. Their article implied that Marvel #1000 was the book that Yoshida wanted to hit 1 million copies.
He reached out to them, pulled the "I never SAID it was this" card, and now they updated the article to be more passive aggressive, including the entire tweeting history of him saying to watch for big announcements in the week that Marvel #1000 was revealed.

Caitlin is best girl.

Gates is a bit of elephant in the room. I don't normally clutch my pearls about censorship, but I can't help but wonder if Gates will have his socialist leanings toned down. Like, dude is literally a commie, and while he's usually played for laughs, he is sometimes presented as having plenty of legit points.

Attached: ugh gag me lame city.jpg (255x291, 14K)

AND SWOLE GRAMPAS!

based Yoshida

Nice to see Yoshida continuing the stupid streak of marvel, not that it's very surprising

Nice contrarianism.
And I say that as someone who hated Johns Legion.

He was always pretty dumb. I mean, not being Roxy's One Woman Man?

>a comic book, ANY comic book, selling a million copies in 2019
Wow, that is disturbingly naive.

>pulled the "I never SAID it was this" card
Just in case you needed a reminder that these people are indeed corporate executives, and not plucky small business people from around town.

3119, they decide to crank the future dial up a century for absolutely no good reason.

does she have armpit hair

I enjoy the pass-agg response from Newsarama, genuinely

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 02.jpg (1280x1907, 347K)

Seriously. This was the original article

>Original story published June 24 and edited June 25: Marvel has announced several discount incentives for retailers to raise their orders for Marvel Comics #1000. This 96-page one-shot may or may not be the project Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski has publicly hoped/speculated will sell over one million copies.

>"The last comic to sell a million copies was Star Wars #1. Which was almost five years ago. I feel it's about time we publish another title that sells over seven figures. And I think I have an idea..." Cebulski said cryptically on his personal Twitter back on May 3
Retailers can receive up to a 15% discount on Marvel Comics #1000 if they order more than they did War of the Realms #6. The scale of the discount is determined by the amount ordered - 15% if they order double, 10% if they order 75% more, or 5% if they order 50% more.

>The deadline for retailers to place their initial orders of Marvel Comics #1000 is July 15, with a scheduled on-sale date of August 28.
and this was the update
1/2

>Updated June 25, 2019: According to Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, August's Marvel Comics #1000 may or may not be the project he was referring to in early May with a series of tweets teasing a comic book he speculated could sell one million copies in the comic book Direct Market.

>Monday (see below) Newsarama reported on several discounts being offered to Direct Market retailers for the Marvel Comics #1000 special (or launch of a new series?), and in our story presumed it was project Cebulski was referring to when on Friday, May 3 he tweeted:

>"The last comic to sell a million copies was Star Wars #1. Which was almost five years ago. I feel it's about time we publish another title that sells over seven figures. And I think I have an idea..."

>Later that same Friday, May 3 he followed up with another tweet, shooting down speculation (what he referred to as "good guesses") published by Newsarama and other sites that it was a Star Wars relaunch. His follow-up tweet read:

>"Good guesses, folks, but it is not a Star Wars relaunch. For a story firmly set in the Marvel Universe. More hints next week..."

>The next week on Tuesday May 7, Cebulski tweeted that readers should "be sure to read every page of every new Marvel comic tomorrow, folks!" which turned out to be large series of teasers that would eventually be revealed as creative teams for the massive Marvel Comics #1000, the first of several tweets that week referring to the teasers/special.

>But this week Cebulski tweeted that despite the timing of his original Twitter teases, he never actually directly connected the original May 3 tweets with the May 8-9 tweets and Marvel Comics #1000, specifically correcting Newsarama on our assumption. He wrote:
>@Newsarama I don’t believe I ever said which comic I thought would sell a million copies. Please don’t assume and put words in my mouth. Thanks.
>Newsarama has edited Monday's story to reflect this more accurrate information.
2/3

The whole thing is juvenile, teasing like that and then going NUH-HUH

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 03.jpg (1280x1926, 283K)

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 04.jpg (1280x1891, 333K)

"hey kids, come home and stop hunting for dates"

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 05.jpg (1280x1906, 334K)

just found out Waid's Doctor Strange is cancelled
gay

Probably just getting a relaunch under a different name.
The sales are pretty good (27K, lol), so it would be dumb of Marvel to just can it

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 06.jpg (1280x1910, 340K)

so... What comic DID he mean? Abrams Spidey?

Clearly he meant Absolute Carnage

I couldn't fit the final line from the newsarama article in the dump, but here it is

>We also contacted Marvel Comics directly to ask what project Cebulski was originally referring to. The publisher responded Tuesday morning there was nothing to share in regards to those tweets at this time.
hahahah

ok that is pretty funny

Darth Vader/Thanos

Reminder Star Wars #1 only "sold" a million copies because it was bundled with Loot Crate and now that they're running out of money they actually sent out spare SW #1 copies they had lying around, so not even the LC copies were completely delivered either, let alone the actual LCS ones.

this is a typical WildC.A.T.S. scenario

OH KITTY!!!

>I'll ask it after we kill it.
Cole. My dude. The robot murdercat can't talk if it's dead. This is why Zannah is always giving you shit.

LOL

crank up the dial on the soap opera! that's always been the best part of the X-Men. I treasure the huge relationship chart.

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 11.jpg (1280x1917, 329K)

bum bum bum

Ah, I see the entire cast was replaced with shapeshifting aliens who can't quite grasp how facial expressions work inbetween issues

LBR, you think Zealot's any better at not killing shit than Griffles

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 12.jpg (1280x1944, 297K)

I'm kinda digging this odd couple dynamic between Roxy and Sarah.

>Roxy's mom knows Alex
Oh, we're diving into that element of every 90s thing ever? Okay then!

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 13.jpg (1280x1960, 345K)

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 14.jpg (1280x1920, 333K)

didn't it also have like, 80 variants?

>LBR, you think Zealot's any better at not killing shit than Griffles
... Fair enough. In fact, if anything, she'd probably scold him for letting it get away.

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 15.jpg (1280x1920, 350K)

Did the scan not have the back up for this issue? Or was Planetary subbed in for it?

Scans end there, sadly

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 16.jpg (1280x1917, 377K)

Yep, close to if not outright 100 I think actually

Roxy, no.
Rainmaker, long enouh to braid.

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 17.jpg (1280x1907, 353K)

Frank draws Cole too normal.

One thing that never makes any sense about the villains of these kinds of stories, is that they keep pursuing the protagonists no matter what. Yeah, it's the storytelling engine, but in-universe, you'd think Ivana would just let it the fuck go by now and consider the Gen-13 project a lost cause. Girl, cut your losses and call it a day.

Frank's action scenes are hella boring

not his strong point, no

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 18.jpg (1280x1930, 313K)

makes me wish Immonen drew them

Gen13 was more fun to me without the drama, and higher on the hijinks.

Oh man I’m already going crazy. I think the redesigns are fine, maybe even good!! It’s gonna be awful for me if I don’t hate the book in here

is he on anything right now?

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 19.jpg (1280x1944, 300K)

>muh bronze age
>muh head canon
Bendis is trying something new, not retreading ground

AND NOW A BACKUP drawn by Art Adams

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 20.jpg (1280x1959, 467K)

Damn, Black Razors upgrade to proper mechs.

Arcudi, Claremont and Simone's runs sorta suck
rest is really fucking fun

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 21.jpg (1280x1920, 410K)

New doesn't mean good, dude.

he's "retired" after ASM and getting Millarworld money but doing a webcomic with his wife and going to do a page in Marvel 1000

Art Adams has some monster legs, but I still love his art.

he did one of the Generationx crossovers too right

BIG BEEFY CAITLYN ARMS.

Well, I'm glad he can work on what he wants to

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 22.jpg (1280x1976, 412K)

Art Adams makes me think of Longshot makes me think of Mojo reminds me of that one Remender Uncanny Annual that was a thinly veiled dig at everything Marvel editorial was doing at the time

thanks owls back tomorrow hopefully on time

Attached: Gen13 v1 34 - 23.jpg (1280x1986, 440K)

That was pretty funny. Not sure whether it was backtracking now that everyone is like "lol THIS is the thing that's gonna sell a million? A book that panders superficially specifically to the most hardcore fans?", or it's another part of the corporate line towing trying to imply that they always have something even MORE "internet breaking" up their sleeve.

lol, Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E got added to that DC mobile game.
Johns strikes again
but they also added Jay and Alan a few months ago, but both suck

all those Millarworld artists made a few cool mill

thank OP have a good night

I'm pretty sure it's going to be a status quo change.
Most likely the Eye of Agamotto turning into a giant knife and the book being renamed "STRANGE".

sexy, hope he doesn't wear a shirt

Yeah, an instagram webcomic. Shit's tight

Ironically that probably will sell more than 1000, since everything related to Spider-Man with "#1" on it tops the sales charts instantly, and this is straight up SPIDER-MAN #1

Thanks OP.
If anyone wants to stick around, here's an issue of Hellblazer from when John was a kid

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)257.jpg (1988x3056, 798K)

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

I think I may have mentioned it once or twice, but it bears repeating. Caitlin is best girl. She's kind and caring, smart yet naive, and is a natural leader. Kinda like Diana. And Imra. And I just have a fucking type. Great.

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)258.jpg (1987x3056, 1.33M)

The only context needed is that John's suffered quite possibly the largest defeat of his life.

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)259.jpg (1987x3056, 1.33M)

Some of these faces look a little Corben-eqsue

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)262.jpg (1987x3056, 1.2M)

You really do have a type, but it's a good type, Cranky.

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)263.jpg (1987x3056, 1.11M)

I've seen enough people praise Anka's redesigns to know these do appeal to some folks. Again, the Legion have worn worse. It's just, as usual, "if it ain't broke".
I'm really just expecting the book to be safe and feel like it was written in an afternoon before heading off the the artist, full of Buffyspeak, because Bendis seems more intent on just stamping his name on as many DC characters as he possibly can rather than having any specific vision for a certain character.

There's just such a massive different in how every other writer treats a book they're on and how Bendis does. He's just making the DCU an all you can eat buffet. I wouldn't complain if he just took Superman and stuck to that and tried to do as much as he could with it instead of trying to pile as much on his plate at once as he can while leaving everyone else to pick through scraps.

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)264.jpg (1987x3056, 1010K)

This is the story of John's first time.
I think it takes place around 1961.

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)265.jpg (1987x3056, 1.22M)

And Donna!

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)266.jpg (1987x3056, 832K)

>He's just making the DCU an all you can eat buffet
It's reminding me a lot of what Byrne was doing in Action Comics at the time.
Almost every issue was a team up with whoever he wanted

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)267.jpg (1987x3056, 870K)

Thanks for running, OP.

To think that MRSA could have saved us from the horror of Bendis Legion.

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)268.jpg (1987x3056, 1M)

she's one of the best comic waifus ever

FWIW and it’s probably nothing bc people treat his name as mud, but Bendis said he’s been working on this for a year and a half

I think I also just have rose colored glasses just because I don’t have the same visceral hate towards Bendis everyone else here(Yea Forums) does

Is Grunge supposed to be half Chinese or full? Because they draw him like a white guy with awkward Asian eyes.

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)273.jpg (1987x3056, 1.05M)

Comic artists can never do half mixes ever.
Cassandra Cain and Rose Wilson come to mind.

Attached: John Constantine, Hellblazer v18 - The Gift (2018) (Digital-Empire)274.jpg (1987x3056, 876K)

I have two types, actually. Serious minded nice girls, and bitchy good aligned bad girls. There are some who fall somewhere in the middle though, and that's good too!

There are two ways Bendis Legion could go to make it not the worst thing ever. As you say, safe, by the numbers, likely retreading. Or, a hilarious Earth-2 style train wreck. Either is acceptable, frankly, cause the worst case scenario is that it's just bad bad.

I wonder what comics he had to give her. We know that in the 1980s he had a collection of Silver Surfer that one of his exe's stole.

And Donna!

>I don’t have the same visceral hate towards Bendis everyone else here(Yea Forums) does
Same, but it is incredibly annoying how much the dude saturates the line up with himself.

the thing is though he's not saturating the line up himself, DC gave him an exclusive, a marketing campaign and probably a lot of dollars to come and get people interested in some of these properties again. this is literally what they wanted him to do, he's not sitting in a sandbox going MINE NO ONE ELSE TOUCH while other writers try to call dibs, they're giving stuff to him that they don't think other writers could have revitalized

and it's true honestly, I don't love or hate Bendis but he's a draw and DC doesn't have many of those especially not ones that are willing to work on this many titles. if it wasn't Bendis it would be fucking Williamson or Tynion and there'd be zero interest

DC should promote Yang

Hey, we're the same. I like Zealot as much as I love Diana.

Yeah like the young justice stuff was (seemingly) being actively discouraged! Otherwise he’s kinda contained to Superman stuff. Batman kinda doesn't count imo cause they give everyone’s bat stuff.

I think the problem is that Yang's usual audience isn't generally interested in his capeshit

There's a lot of writers who've been wanting to write Legion and YJ for years now.
Though I see your point about Bendis being one of the last "name" writers around, so maybe YJ wouldn't have had a chance otherwise, but DC has been hyping the return of the Legion for a few years now, I think anyone who's going to buy it will be interested more because of the Rebirth hype than Bendis's name.

Man, this Ms. Spaulding is completely different from Wild Storm's. Down to being a blonde.

>the largest defeat of his life.
Tail End of Carey's run?

This is why Carey is John's best writer, he'll just go below the damned belt.

Yep. Losing his sister because of her awful husband. Stacking gambit after gambit and losing.
Two regular issues followed it, and wrapped up the rest of the Carey plots.
Then he did do one final issue a year later after Mina crashed and burned
