Why is she still one of the best characters in Homestuck?

Shame her character was ruined in Act 6.

She nearly got everything she wanted but ends up blueballed and in a state of perpetual non relevance. This satisfied both her fans and her haters. It's perfect.

What made Homestuck so special that it got the incredible amounts of porn and degeneration that it did?

Mostly stems from the fact that Hussie himself is a degenerate pervert. The internet turns everything into porn, but he still fanned the flames pretty hard too.

Why is it that despite Alternia being such a cutthroat shithole it feels like Vriska was one of the only trolls who really had to deal with that shit all the time, everyone else being kind of insulated to one degree or the other.

the best character in Homestuck is the manifestation of one Andrew Hussie's need to atone. I like to think that it will speak to him once he enters the grave.

Well, all of the adults were in space, so the only things the kids had to worry about was their lusus and the drones.

she was on the razor's edge. on one side were the trolls who straight up died for stupid reasons. on the other side was trolls who had relatively cushy lives.
bear in mind of course that at least half the twelve troll heroes would have not survived to adulthood anyway under normal circumstances

Yeah but even if that was the reality I feel like only Vriska and Karkat (maybe Eridan? But honestly I feel like his desperation was mostly unrelated to Alternia's "fuck or die" policy) were the only ones to really feel that pressure of being killed by drones or other trolls, and Karkat still didn't have to really DO anything about it like Vriska did.
I guess I just feel like most of the trolls were able to brush aside Alternia's influence too quickly, or never really felt it in the first place.

Actually wait I forgot about Equius being warped as well, which ultimately killed him but his blood was just good enough that he could more or less take things easy back on Alternia.

Vriska is the Thief of Light, Light is the aspect of relevance. How do you expect her to fulfill her role and steal relevance when she's already relevant? Of course she's in a doomed timeline, and she stopped mattering. Fow now. But wait until her Thief of Light nature brings her back. It's only a matter of time.

If you think the Thief of Light stealing John's phone and Terezi contact, effectively stealing the only way the Candy timeline can still matter in regards to canon, is a coincidence, you're dead wrong. Her contacting Terezi is definitely going to have some impact on the Meat timeline, where Terezi is. Maybe she'll just talk her out of Dirk's control, maybe she'll go as far as dooming the Meat timeline. In any case, Vriska is clearly not done mattering.

However, feel free to continue your denial. Your tears of disappointment will be all the more sweeter! ::::)

We never saw how proper Alternia functioned but highbloods definitely had it easier than others. More money, better living conditions. Vriska's different because we had to be witnesses to her sob story of having to feed Spidermom and the rest. Fucking light players. All she had to is mindcontrol some poor sap, possibly hundreds of miles away and make them walk to her den. Really difficult and stressful, wow. Not to mention that she had her hive built by Equius.

True highblood politics on its own is pretty nasty, you have to watch your back constantly, and murder is an everyday thing; but most trolls are often well equipped with inherent abilities to survive the land and societal issues. And if they do die, there were thousands to replace them in the breeding chambers.

Drones are a bit different. If you can't offer seed, you die. Simple as. But by the time the 12 trolls played the game there weren't any left.

You know I appreaciate the effort of typing all this out. But HS is in the literal fucking void. Nobody knows if it ended or not, if it's still going or not, what's actually canon or not. Whether it's going anywhere or not. It's in fucking limbo.

If Vriska becomes relevant fucking great. Anything would be better than whatever the fuck we have now.

I will never understand the rabid appeal of this.

I don't either. Not in the "this is shit' way but in the "I literally can't figure out what is fun about this" way. Maybe it was more engaging on a week to week basis.

Still, by the time they got to play together, the planet was pretty much completely barren of life, so SOCIETY problems didn't really exist. They were 13 years old anyway, all they knew was their lusus parents.

What I find fascinatng about it is the cosmology. And the way it handles time shenanigans.

Back in the day we had single or 5 page updates, pretty much every day. No other webcomic did things the way HS did. It was a new age phenomenon unfurling right before our eyes. And Hussie involved the fandom in such a way that if you had good art or music you might very well see your own thing appearing in the webcomic you love so much.
