As someone who stopped watching when the baby was around, nevermind the dog and the new blonde girl, I'm intrigued by this. Did they just straight up stop showing certain characters? Is it true even the likes of Vicky got kicked out? And while at it, was there anything resembling an attempt to a conclusive finale?

AJ, Chester, Trixie, Veronica, Tad, Chad, even Tootie were removed. I don't know if it's a cost issue, a corporate-mandated change in direction, or the new writers not wanting anything to do with those legacy characters. The last couple of seasons was reduced to Timmy's dad and Crocker being obnoxiously loud, Chloe jockeying for screentime, while Dark Laser and Foop hang around but accomplish nothing. All of this boredom is couched in poorly done flash animation that felt very floaty.

I think the same people were working on Bunsen is a Beast concurrently, and that might have gotten the majority of their attention. But that show is just as awful. Someone ripped the heart out of FOP a long time ago, while Bunsen never had one to begin with.

Was Trixie even that popular in the fandom for that matter? Most people seemed to despise the Timmy/Trixie ship and it was one of the bigger complaints about the show I remember from the pre-Poof seasons before those new characters were added and became the new easy target.

I haven't been keeping up with the FOP fanart scene much I admit, but most people who still go back to the show seem to be focused on Vicky or Tootie as the go-to girls. Even Chloe gets more fanart. I think Trixie's problem is that she was just boring eyecandy.

No, that isn't what Butch Hartman intended at all, although that is more or less exactly how it played out in the fanbase. My post was pointing out the obvious: Timmy/Trixie was your run of the mill, "will they? won't they?" ship that was all the rage in cartoons those days. They would get together, BUT AT A COST, and when Timmy paid that cost, Trixie would find a contrived reason to dump him. That is 99% of their episodes and scenes together.

It was not a good ship. It was not even a popular ship unlike some other WTWT ships of the time. When Channel Chasers ended with Tootie having an unassailable advantage over Trixie (even though, allegedly, the ending was supposed to be ambiguous) few people were surprised and even fewer were angry.

Sometimes, first ship is just best ship. There isn't much you can do about it. It's the law of nature. The weak die off, and only the strong remain.

The majority of those examples are either more or less contemporary/inspired off of FOP, or the shipping at least accumulated something over the run that ended up with a clear distinct endgame payoff. Gravity Falls killed off Wendip early in season 2 and The Manlet more or less admitted it was a mistake to have it in the first place. Regular Show and Adventure Time were the only real egregious examples because they basically cucked the main characters for no reason.

FOP shipping never really went anywhere. Just reset the status quo any time someone got too far ahead. Stuff like the Channel Chasers kids was more about showing Timmy getting on with his life rather than resolving any argument about who he ended up with. Most people draw a conclusion that it was Tootie because, the CC kids look most like her, the live action movies featured only her, and despite what certain deranged people that frequent these threads dream of otherwise she was overall better written than Trixie.

I find myself liking "popular bitch" characters out of accidental reverse psychology; the show wants me to hate her too hard without selling it. The MC is often just as nasty to the bitch character so often it seems arbitrary that she's supposedly the one always at fault.

If you were someone who never watched every FOP episode, you might not know who Trixie was, but Tootie was a big contributor toward mending the rift between Timmy and his parents in that movie... a casual viewer would know who she was, that she loved Timmy, and that she was Vicky sister, even if they never watched an episode before with her in on it, there are also subtle differences like Timmy not being rich, the kids not being spoiled or snooby, their family still having a connection with Vicky..
