>same tired tropes but with reversed genders
>SNAIL'S PACE development of story and world
>uninteresting dialogue
>obvious lack of knowledge on medieval Japan
>poorly handled stronk female lead and boring/frustrating flawed male lead

honestly such a disappointment and a real waste of paper and ink (not to mention the $6 I paid for the first three issues)
I mean really how hard is it to write a decent comic book?

it focuses too much on samurai aesthetic forgoing any real substance imao

...

>Sjw art style and writing

I know it’s a thing, but can anyone elaborate a little on how to notice it?

>le SJW
Stopped reading here

>guys help me look for stuff to complain about
But...why?

i think user is more curious about what exactly OP is complaining about

They choose the wrong theme to write about. Seriously, there are tons of work to compare with and that makes this one looks even worse.

user probably wants to know what are the characteristics of such style so he can stop himself liking it
something like the guys in /gif/ asking "IS THIS A TRAP????" while holding their dick in their hand and awaiting the green light to start jacking it to a 10 second webm of an ambiguous looking person shaking their ass in a schoolgirl outfit

>tons of work to compare this with\
like what? Usagi Yojimbo?

What a problematic way to live. I can't like a thing unless I have the collective approval of an anonymous Icelandic pastry forum? I don't even want to entertain the notion of judging it for myself, I want a group of white supremacist cryptobronies to form all my opinions for me? Like how does it harm you, in any quantifiable way, to read a comic book and come to your own conclusions? Like what the fuck is personal agency nigga hahaha like nigga if you don't like it just shut your eyes haha nigga just close the book

This really hurts because I love Milogiannis' work, but this comic is so bland and uninspired. And the same thing happened with Pak's Mech Cadet Yu, decent underlying concept but just really unremarkable art and design.

If you want an actually good Milogiannis book check out Old City Blues; the art's a little scratchy and it's basically GitS but it's at least competently done.

thanks for the rec user

the art is a plain and overdone style. there are obvious good techniques employed from the way the colorist keeps lighting in mind to the penciler's conveyance on motion and action, but the portrayal of characters and overall presentation is the same tired copy/pasted look that a million and one artists already produce

Attached: IMG_8043.jpg (1040x1600, 514K)

this comic made me believe im a misogynist

looks fine to me but i can tell already you read more comics than i do so

wait what does that have to do with sjws

I guess you're right. Looking at the art style, especially the line quality, the palette choice and the composition, I clearly can detect an obsession with LGBT issues and an unfair characterization of white identity.

it's a ridiculous simplified soft look that's gaining traction now. It's overdone and kind of *blegh*

Attached: IMG_8046.jpg (1936x2185, 649K)

that looks nothing like ronin island though

Attached: IMG_8047.jpg (1040x1600, 439K)

People who know nothing about the culture or the history of the setting they're writing about probably shouldn't be writing in the first place.

ok to be fair this does look pretty lazy and overly simplified and i dont care for it as an artstyle
but it does look unique

Samurais loved boypussy and traps in real life. Isn't that SJW enough?

>I mean really how hard is it to write a decent comic book?
You're probably right. What's your story pitch? More importantly, can you draw? I know nothing about this series, but you sound like absolute cancer.

>wow, if you're so critical about the President/prime minister/premier/head of state, then how about you try running the country?
>if you don't like the way the series is going, how about you try writing for it?
>stop criticizing the animation. YOU sure couldn't animate any better
>I'd like to see you run the Chernobyl plant. aint so easy, is it?
>I'd like to see you be a cop. You criticize them for shooting kids and being fuckups but you couldnt even do what they do
wow, you really showed me.
except, no one asked the writer to make the comic. but they did. and they did a bad job of it.
the level of difficulty associated with someone's job doesn't free them of criticism
you sound like an absolute tard

Jesus Christ, the conservative vocabulary of art criticism is preposterous.
What's next, the perspective is too lesbian? The composition has too much intersectional feminism?

go back to tumblr

>>le SJW new wave art style
Couldn't fit any more buzzwords in there?

If most sjw "artists" actually produce good art, no one would use it to refer to bad art in the first place. But from what I've seen most of them are just self proclaim artist with no skill.

hes right though

Well how appropriate, given that every artist that Yea Forums produces ends up there.

his style is straight forwardly seinen manga influenced like urawasa. not sjw new wave or anything like that.

what a noob op is.

>Vagabond
Now name one that can actually have an ending one day.

manga is a terrible medium

No one uses SJW to refer to bad art outside of a tiny Yea Forums fringe, though.

>blade of the immortal
He did in the same post.

I mean it was a pretty decent site to just dump your art there until the porn purge.

>Blade of immortal and Samurai executioner
Do you even read his post?

yaaas
don't listen to OP my fellow anons
he doesnt know what hes talking about
he's probably some filthy samurai and you can't trust those sword nuts
gotta stick together amiirite?

Attached: IMG_8049.jpg (1040x330, 130K)

then all the western young people reading manga are terrible. keep enjoying your safe space for oldfaggy comic nerds.

What are you trying to prove?

wow this art is terrible. why is the guy on the left 3ft tall? these samurai don't even look cool. it's pretty obvious when a writer or artist is genuinely interested in the subject matter because the work would actually be rife with detail about said subject matter. just compare any samurai manga to this or any /k/ manga to /k/ comics.

Attached: Gunslinger Girl.jpg (728x1071, 78K)

>No one
So you only use /co and tumblr? There are tons of people who use sjw art to refer to bad art outside of /co.

I'm just salty about Inoue

Like half of anime, those samurai movies from the 60s and some comics from the 90s-00s when editors were going for all the weeb money.

Maybe he will eventually finish Slam Dunk.
Right. Hahaha.

yeah i assumed we were just talking about this medium but i guess theres more content than i realized

Slam dunk is his fuck you to Jump editorial team.

Less about SJWs and more about doing art superfast and supercheap.

I'd read it.

Attached: 1497374349571.jpg (493x493, 45K)

user is trying to covey that the ones being snarky responding to OP with "Le SJW" dare to talk without knowing anything about comics, haven't read a comic in their lives, never will, don't know the content of OP's comic and exist only to fight over hobbies (in which they don't participate) because "Muh politics and Muh representation".
And user's right.

are there naked boys in this?

>Old City Blues
Rip-off

>can you draw
No, but I can write better than this. Hold on, lemme check and see if the writer also drew this comic we're talking about.

>he doesn't use white ethnostate NatSoc cubism
>he actually thinks transgender queer theory Impressionism is a viable medium for sequential art
loving every laugh

How is Milogiannis a SJW though? I never see him tweet about politics or shit

sjw is generally used to describe bad quality overall.
the implication is that said person only got the chance to create something due to her gender, sexual orientation or political view instead of merit

story has the same feminist tropes of the girl being a perfect marie sue who is better, smarter and stronger then the boy.
boy is portrayed like a useless idiot and emasculated by the girl

So here is the question everybody is missing. Is it better then Yojimbo?

Attached: 927579[1].jpg (583x888, 106K)

You want some good samurai shit? Go read Shigurui.

Attached: shigurui_v01_078_79.jpg (1456x1044, 310K)

No. That's just how you've come to think of the term. The term doesn't really mean anything. So, it can mean whatever someone wants it to. This is what happens when a nothing term gets repeated ad nauseum, people think it must mean something and want to be part of the in-crowd. But they don't really know what it means, so they project their own ideals onto that term.

>le SJW new wave art style
Does SJW just mean "art I don't like now?

user youre insulting stan sakai by even implying thats a question

>sjw is generally used to describe bad quality overall.
No you fucking retard, that's not how it works.

Um it does when you have an agenda against the ideology as a whole and want to smear it whenever possible hmmkay?
Heh heh not that I need to since it does that on its own! (It doesn't do that on its own but I've conditioned you to think that way) heh heh heh.
See how I'm typing? That's SJW typing btw, shitlord.

The term SJW has no meaning anymore.

Are you retards incapable of speaking like normal human beings?

Attached: 1560390041800.png (852x854, 1.14M)

You would be gay not to want to fuck Jean in that style though

Everytime I see someone used sjw, I honestly thinks it's some edgy kid playing on Yea Forums and acting like a clown.

I also like how basedboy is becoming a dying insult because it doesnt have meaning anymore.

Attached: PYmlCJv.jpg (480x270, 52K)

Not when it comes to SJEWS they don't heh he h heh heh heh heh h heh.

You forgot white genocide, user. I find this suspicious.

There's a difference between criticizing an art piece and demeaning the authors.
A sentence like
>how hard is it to write a decent comic book?
is both insulting and show how ignorant you are.

No they use tumblr because that's an actual viable thing and a place where there's a community and viable trends. 'SJW art' would vary from genuinely renowned brilliant artists since a lot of artists are lefties to shit Steven Universe OC producing fucks like rcdart and those kids who draw everyone with tree trunk limbs and vitiligo.

Good lord, no.

I actually gave it a read because of this thread and it's okay. It's not amazing and industry changing or anything and I probably won't keep up with it, but it's fine.

What an overreaction baiting post this is. There was nothing "SJW" about it unless you consider everything with a female protagonist "SJW".

Not that user but I liked it. Why not?

Not that user But you immediately went to the "make something better then" corner like every mediocre athlete that believed their mom wen they said they were amazing or the mediocre artists who's favorite teacher told them they were amazing.

You don't have to make a single comic in your life to say that one sucks.

And still I own each issue of Ronin Island as a floppy because I don't think it sucks at all (if anyone thinks usagi is groundbreaking they're retarded especially in early issues). This is perfectly accessible for new and old readers of the medium and the only "problem" that I agree with OP (again despite liking the series and keeping it on my pull to continue) is that the "stronk womyn weak man" thing is a bit heavy handed.

Shit tasted faggot detected.

This isn't comparable at all though...

It's just a mediocre comic with a slow pacing

so just like the terms Nazi, Sexist or Racist?

I see what you mean, but could you please stop insulting Urasawa with the comparison?
I have my Billy Bat right here and no, just no.

>Korean
>Thai
I'm sorry, but when is this set, again?
It seems unlikely that you would have these modern terms used like that for most periods.

The flags have Tokugawa emblem, so should be around Sengoku period I guess.

Attached: 800px-Tokugawa_family_crest.svg.png (800x800, 154K)

No. Sexism and racism both use the suffix -ism. Which means based on. So, racism means based on race. The -ist suffix is used to denote someone who holds certain principles or doctrines. So, racist means someone who is practising doctrines based on race. These terms can be applied to people, based on their actions
Nazi I'll give you. Every fascist excels at deflecting. Because, they know that, when they're caught out, nobody will protect them. Neither centrists nor other fascists will protect someone that spouts nazi rhetoric and can't deflect. I hope that clears things up.

>obvious lack of knowledge on medieval Japan

How so? All the trope-debunking things that I know are:
-Samurai were more like thugs with nice swords in peacetime. Like the American cowboy, the badass lone samurai with unshakable honor is mainly a movie stereotype.
-Samurai used guns.
-Ninjas existed, but they didn't dress in all black outfits. They wore plain clothes, like undercover police officers and spies. The black outfits come from Kabuki stage hands. Also, they used guns in the 1800's.

manga is an sjw art style

This must be bait.

>his style is straight forwardly seinen manga influenced like urawasa
Do you even understand what you said?

>u can criticize but be nice about it stop being mean!
holy fuck where do you think you are?
kill yourself

>Korean and Thai ethnic identities would not have been used
Really? Why? did this only become a thing with the development of East Asian nation-States? i am unfamiliar with this

Attached: IMG_6181.gif (442x480, 3.22M)

If I have to guess, most probably empowered women on feudal Japan when in real life samurais were so misoginistic that they prefer to fuck each other, see To be fair, the Yamato Nadeshiko's virtues also include being capable at combat for being able to defend the house at the husband's absence, learning to use the naginata is viewed as a lady sport in Japan in contrast with kendo, and during wartime, so many samurais died that sometimes the wives engaged in battle, often using naginatas and bows. Nevertheless all this was far from female empowerment because the glory was for the clan and the husband's family, the wife was just showing her loyalty

recommended sources for further reading?

Judging from Great Wind it takes place shortly after Kublai Khans invasion. Samurai didn't have guns back then, Kublai Khans attack on their islands was the very first time they ever experienced gunpowder in form of bombs.

Why can't western women not interference with eastern affairs?

In premodern states you usually have stronger identification with your feudal structures and kings, religions, and with clans or ethnic groups localised to whatever area you are from.
Broad nationalism is more of a development of the 18th and 19th century because of centralising great power states, imperialism and a waning power of religious institutions as well as an increasing political awareness of the world as a limited space with more information in the hands of the common people.
Also: What language do they even speak here? Do they both know Japanese?
At least the Thai is not a person of great importance or wealth it seems.
That would make structured language schooling very hard to obtain.
Especially Japanese that has a very complex social structure is hard to grasp just from hearing it.
They should be talking with hands and feet there.
I'm not sure when the term Thai came up, but the area went by a few names in its time.
In any case, referencing the modern nations like they mean the same thing back when is a big nono.

No wonder the Japanese don't take kindly to people from the Sinosphere.
In any case, national terms should not apply. Japan isn't even a relatively unified state for several centuries.
Korea is the only one that remains a relative constant, in terms of territory here.
And even there the word would be inappropriate for the time.

>What an overreaction baiting post this is. There was nothing "SJW" about it unless you consider everything with a female protagonist "SJW".
it is a part of larger trend of degrading males and masculinity in general
so yeah it is SJW

Shut up cuck

>SNAIL'S PACE development of story and world
Western creators can't into decompressed pacing I've noticed. Something like Bakuon Rettou is decompressed as hell but it's done in a way which gives weight to the events, granted it's a masterpiece of a series but still. This feels so dull and lifeless.

Attached: x14.jpg (977x1400, 391K)

Pic related does it better. The villagers she's put in charge of (the men at least) dismiss her and she has to actually prove that she knows her farming before they come to her side.

It's not that she's better because HURR DURR GIRL but because she's someone from the modern day from a farming family going to an agricultural school so she has the benefit of 450 years of farming advances since the Sengoku era (and she largely limits what she teaches/uses to Meiji era innovations).

Attached: x35.png (2702x1920, 1.77M)

Most modern innovations are bound to massive production chains, so she obviously can't go ahead that far.
Industrial fertilisers, modern super-deep ploughs, harvesters etc. all need things she cannot get. Let alone modern hybrid breeds, GMO techniques and irrigation with pumps.
What kinds of tricks does she employ? Crop rotation? Different irrigation methods?

>LE

Attached: 1525882763295.jpg (1988x3056, 2.2M)

Largely simpler things like mixing in rice and other vegetation into feces to make compost and not just throwing shit everywhere or this. Some times mechanisms like rotary weeders that came in use during the Meiji era.

Only thing that seems a little ridiculous is being able to grow sugarcane in Owari or even it being a viable crop at all since IIRC sugarcane needs more tropical climates (which is why, in Japan, it was largely limited to some islands south of Kyushu) and also harvesting it and synthesizing it into sugar is really dangerous.
