Fucking finally, I've been refreshing this thread for half an hour and wading through awful posts just waiting for the /shelf/thread. Now let's hope it's not terrible (rarely they are but you never know).
Anyway, fun news for me: yesterday I placed a big order at IST, it'll likely arrive in a month or so given my location but I'm excited about it. I bet it's going to be like 1/3 heavier than it should given IST's packaging but whatever man. What'd y'all think?
This weeks reading: >boxers and saints: extremely good graphic novel. Must read >Die by Gillen: cool concept. Basically DnD meets Jumanji. Incredible artwork >Daredevil by Zdarsky: not bad at all, more enjoyable than Soule, but something’s missing. Art isn’t great either. Monitoring this title but nowhere close to buying it
Christopher White
>Die by Gillen I held off on buying the first trade in hopes it's collected later as a HC, but I might end up doing it, alongside Seven to Eternity... Both are among Image's best looking books, and in the fantasy genre to boot.
Jonathan Evans
Yeah don't bother buying Image trades of stuff by their big names like Gillen, Remender, Lemire, Kirkman, etc. That stuff always gets superior collections down the line. Remender in particular puts out these giant hardcovers that are nearly Absolute sized
Cooper Hughes
>Boxers and Saints Nice. It's been years since I read it, so I didn't make the connection when I was reading New Super-Man that it was written by the same guy. Yang's stuff is almost always great, except for his Avatar comics. But every Avatar comic is some weak shit, so I don't hold it against him.
Levi Long
Where'd you get that X-Statix book
Alexander Harris
>he wasn't around in 2011-2014 when it was inexplicably 30 dollars all the time Poor guy. X Statix Omnibus is OG /shelf/core
Anthony Campbell
ebay, cost me $70. Most expensive single thing on my shelf.
Brandon Allen
Pretty much, it's what I did with Hickman's East of West, which should be ending this year and that means next year they'll release the Year Three book with the rest of his run.
I was really disappointed that Manhattan Projects never got a third hardcover. From what I understand, the creator himself absorbs the cost of collections at Image, so I guess Hickman didn't think demand was there for it. Shame, it's my favorite thing by him. Truly a unique comic.
After I jerk off on Pornhub I always read the comments because it's literally the funniest shit on the internet, and I didn't know where else to post this one, but since it's comic related I'll put it here
what should my next purchase be /shelf/? >Sensational She-Hulk: The Return >Liberty Meadows vol. 1 >Dini and Timm's Harley and Ivy
Colton Myers
It's both. Hickman would have to convince Image to put one out, and they have meetings over whether or not it will be worth it to produce. MP isn't really finished, so that's a problem. That's why there was never a hardcover of Graham's Prophet. Image looked at the regular trade sales, and passed.
been reading through Operation Galactic Storm. It's kinda a fun event. Lots of stuff going on, and some great interactions like Wonder Man and Vision. oh and I Roved Out just arrived in the mail, have to go pick it up so no photo yet of that one.
Samuel Edwards
I found a copy of Dredd Case Files 14 for $5, picking it up later.
Yesterday I found another copy of Akira #38 for $5. Now I have five or six copies. Just waiting to get back to America to flip them.
Levi Lee
Just so we're clear, is this Warren Ellis' Planetary or another Planetary I haven't heard of before? Because this is the second time I see this cover, but it doesn't match the one I've seen of Ellis'. Yeah, Galactic Storm is pretty good and I like the way it introduced StarForce and had them pit against the Imperial Guard back then. I've been thinking it's the best way to introduce them in a movie without waiting for the X-Men to make their debut, since aside from Quasar (who they should introduce), they have pretty much every other character.
Isaiah Hill
>MP isn't really finished, so that's a problem. MP is deader than disco
Jordan Ross
That's the Planetary omnibus without its dust jacket.
James Bennett
It's Ellis Planetary, just doesn't have the dust cover. I actually like the look of it more without the dustcover
Ohhhh... Well then, just learned something new. It looks way better like this.
Nolan Perez
Bruce probably tracks everyones porn habits. Wonder what he does with that information and how can I find out what Wonder Woman watches?
Connor Hall
Wondy has an island of amazons to bang, why would she watch porn
Christian Bell
I wonder if Batman watches porn. Since he's a zen ninja I expect him to be nofap
Kayden Sullivan
maybe she likes to watch porn with others explains his anger issues
Jason Cox
I've been wanting to expand my physical collection, should I get the seven soldiers omnibus or the two deluxe editions? Also is the coie deluxe edition worth the price?
Jason Phillips
>P&J SF based
Nicholas Allen
I ordereded a bunch of shit this month. I'm just waiting for all of it to take a pile picture
Dominic Gonzalez
The omni was going for a great discount everywhere. If it is still cheep go that way
Don’t buy those Batman books, all of that is going to be in the second Morrison omni
Brayden Rodriguez
Yeah I don't like omnis desu. I got them cheap tho
Dylan Turner
Ah. Do your thing
Nathan Evans
I was gonna order it from IST, but it's gone, gone! Also gone from CGN, so uhh, what are the options with the same discount?
Samuel Murphy
>it is the year 2080 >Afterlife With Archie volume 2 has finally come out >/shelfbots/ will pay upwards of 4000 Galactic Credits for an obsolete piece of paper >meanwhile I'm here chilling, beaming the digi-comics straight into my mainframe 01100010 01111001 01100101 00100000 01101110 01100101 01110010 01100100 0001010
Having this issue with a handful of books. Seems to be happening at random, because a handful of my super old hardcovers and omnibuses are just fine despite having been read, and some of the newer ones are already loose.
Is there some kind of glue I can use to dab between there to keep the pages from falling apart? My worry is that the rest will end up like the top one which is starting to come apart a bit more.
Out of curiosity, what books are there? Also I would just youtube some book repair videos.
Ryder Perry
that would involve buying a DC omni, and they already refused to fix the mistakes in the first morrison one
Dominic Thomas
Wizard's Greatest Spider-Man stories. Grabbed it as a kid over ten years ago. That one has seen a lot of use so I'm not surprised, but some of my other hardcovers from that time period are still perfect.
The bottom is the Aquaman Johns/New52 Omnibus. Had most of the run in the smaller hardcovers but got the Omnibus on sale for 20 bucks on Amazon. The cover art is a hell of a lot nicer and I got to give the smaller hardcovers to some people who were interested.
Isaac Long
I think the Aquaman omnibus is alright. I've seen a number of omnis (usually DC..) where the book will seem to "detach" from the spine just like in that picture, but it seems to be by design (for flexibility perhaps). So I wouldn't worry too much. But yeah.. wish DC would just call Marvel and say "hey can you build your omnis for us?"
Elijah Martin
our omnis *
Eli Howard
What mistakes were in the first one?
Benjamin Phillips
Ya but the real question. Has Non-Player issue 3 come out?
Gabriel Parker
I know every last one can't be perfectly made but I've seen most newer ones, even for the thicker omnis that don't have that issue so it kinda sucks.
Evan Collins
used a cover from a second printing instead of the first
Daniel Martinez
I feel like it must be a design choice. For example, the Sandman Omnibus vol. 2 has the exact same separation. Every copy of that book I've ever seen looks the same way. I'm not sure why it's this way, but It doesn't concern me overmuch. I'd much rather DC have sewn binding that "detach" then the old glued crap they used to do.
Noah Moore
Nope. The Seeds #3 has though. Still waiting for issue #4.
I don't think they're designed to be attached to or remain flush with the spine. I have books from Dark Horse, DC, and Viz that have done that. In any case, get some book glue. I keep a bottle around for little repairs. Just be warned a little goes a long, long way.
Ryan Baker
At the end of one of the chapters, the Joker has blood on his face after a daydream sequence, which doesn't make sense. Also it lacks some sketches that were in the trades.
Jace Myers
Also, does anyone know if you can get any good deals for the forth world omni? Yeah, ran into the same shit.
Caleb Lee
Glued HC bindings are actually worse than glued TPB Damn it. What about Orc Stain?
Ryder Clark
Haha, time to get in panic mode? Because I took all the time in the world to buy it, and when I finally had the money for it, it's no longer available.
Brody Anderson
>What about Orc Stain? Negro please. The existence of Stokoe's artbook basically means that series is kill
:(
Jace Peterson
I suppose it has it's advantages but most of the newer hardcovers I have are attached to the spine so the inconsistency annoys me. I'm weirdly autistic about shit like that
Xavier Ramirez
>I have are attached to the spine so the inconsistency annoys me. I'm weirdly autistic about shit like that I mean, it's not something that you can see when the book is on the /shelf/, so why care?
Nathan Robinson
I see it when I read it, and some of my books are starting to come apart like in the top pic. Only a few, but enough to annoy me.
Jeremiah Fisher
>I see it when I read it, How? You can only see that from looking top down. When reading it you only see the pages
Logan Ortiz
Flexible spines like that are far better and less prone to breaking down. If they are attached to a hard spine there isn't the flex and the ability to open properly leading to gutter loss and a stiffness in the book that is more prone to breaking down. Your autism is making you like inferior products
Jaxson Miller
I don't know about that. All of the books I have attached to the spine open just fine and haven't had any damage from repeated reading.
Bentley Thompson
how empty is your current life
Grayson Morris
>boxers and saints: extremely good Not really. It's pretty good, and I agree with "must read", but it's not great.
Anthony Walker
Infinite Kung-Fu is one of the most mediocre books that is recommended/featured in shelf threads.
Thomas Bailey
rude
Landon Perry
It's alright if you didn't dig it. I think I was pre-disposed to liking it because I have a major affinity for Chinese history.
Christian Wilson
Is this a good buy? Seems pretty cheep for an omnibus.
That's not the point, retard. Is the binding good? Does it have good extras? Ect.? How new are you.
Isaiah Bell
Ignoring the actual content itself, it's selling for $46 on Amazon, yet selling for $37 from third party sellers.
That should tell you right away it's not a good buy, and not as cheap as you imagine.
Hunter Cox
You literally asked if it was an economical buy, nothing about the construction or contents.
And of course the binding is fine, it's a Marvel omnibus.
Stop trying to make the other person look bad when you're the idiot.
Leo Smith
Not as empty as my shelves once I make room for my new trades.
Henry Baker
I asked if it was a "good buy?". It's not my fault you can't-into reading comprehension, brainlet.
Alexander Sanders
Yeah, you should get it. It's really good, and it's cheap because it's tailored towards younger readers too. Ignore the other dumbasses.
Ian Gonzalez
"good buy" is vague. good comic? subjective good value? you've already answered your own question in the original post. you said it "seems cheap". if you've got ANY sort of online shopping you already know how to identify a good price/page ratio. good quality? it's a marvel omnibus. need to know more beyond that? type the name of the omnibus into youtube and someone will have a video overview.
>wah please spoonfeed me!!! sorry. buying that omni, booking a flight to your city, and driving to your house to show it to you.
Heads up, Enigma got removed from Comixology. Which likely means that Milligan has the full rights to it again, not DC. It will probably pop up again under a different publisher. Take this as a sign that there won't be any more Vertigo branded trades coming out, so that last printing in 2015 is likely going OOP soon.
Reminds me of a guy I bought a few Zords from, he has stuff like that for sale next to the GI Joes. He had some issues of The Fabulous Furry Freak Bros, but he wanted like, $10 an issue.
Brody Jackson
I'm not happy I lads I threw up all over my computer and I have to get a new laptop now fuck.
Anyway I picked up Geoff Johns green lantern volume 1
I'm relieved it was on my laptop and not on my floppies I had out. In a drunken stupor, I bagged and boarded heroes in crisis #4 because it had the memorial to stan lee in it
Jayden Brown
>because it had the memorial to stan lee in it Still pretty miffed that the DC tribute to Stan Lee was more impressive than the Marvel one. I get where Marvel was coming from with the black pages, the whole "what else can we say xD" thing, but fuck me they could have done SOMETHING. And also not put the RIP banner on the Alex Ross covers. Any other covers sure. Not Ross
Ryan Torres
Yeah it was classy. >from the Distinguished Competition-excelsior!
At the LCS, all the marvel books had RIP Stan lee on the covers and it was just tacky, the cynical side of me thinks that marvel only rid that to boost sales from collectors and what not
Christopher Miller
Isn't your laptop worth more than floppies? Floppies are flrarely worth the money
Also...for thr number of times i have spilled beer on my laptop i an surprised it hasn't stopped
Hunter Ortiz
I like comics more than my computer but my computer is more useful
Caleb Gonzalez
You think Marvel killed Stan Lee to boost comic sales that month??
Alexander Bell
I can read comics on a computer too. Especially stuff that is never printed
Benjamin Jackson
No I think putting the memorial on every cover was just to boost sales I like having physical media
Samuel Kelly
I read comics on an iPhone and I like it
Parker Moore
Absolutely disgusting
Blake Watson
>I like having physical media So do it. But much of it is stuff i can't buy cause they don't print it
Connor Hill
>That should tell you right away it's not a good buy, and not as cheap as you imagine. Different user here, but what do you mean by this? Isn't it normal that third party sellers sell their products cheaper? Idk how it is in the US, but where I live they get abysmal discounts because of the wholesale purchasing.
Grayson Kelly
I ordered >Mike Grell's Green Arrow 7,8 and 9 >Jiro Taniguchi's The Ice Wanderer >Mort Cinder >Made in Abyss 6 >Venditti Hawkman 1 >20th Century Boys Perfect Edition 4 I think it's an okay batch.
son of a bitch i thought i was the only one who had a taxidermied jackalope.
those vicious sons of bitches are disturbingly cute.
Carson Russell
jelly of the Hitman trades. Saw on a catalog that they were reprinting them, but it never came out
Camden Rogers
Not that user, I got all the Hitman trades super cheap as used library copies, feels good man.
Jose King
>but it never came out Yeah, WB decided to restructure some of DC, and that meant gutting the trades department.
Mason Johnson
probably not. ditto billy bat. I wish I spoke french because France seems to get sooo much fucking manga
Carter Gray
>ditto billy bat Why would you think this? After 20th Century Boys is all wrapped up surely BB would be next. > France seems to get sooo much fucking manga Italians get even more, they totally jumped on that stuff in the 1970's. So I'm guessing I'll never get a TPB collection of Ostrander's Firestorm run.
Gabriel Brooks
Why do you fellate Urasawa so much? He's not great.
Andrew Rodriguez
Based and redpilled. Yea Forums BTFO
Matthew Morris
>France seems to get sooo much fucking manga It's because France and Japan have been in love with each other for about 300 years. There's even a mental condition called Paris Syndrome, when someone, usually Japanese, visits Paris and learns it's nothing like the fantasies they've been weaving all their life.
Cameron Myers
Now that I think about it, Pokemon X/Y was based on France
Jonathan Peterson
The biggest love letter is the Tokyo Tower. It showed up in almost every episode of Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, just like the Eiffel Tower is in every episode of Ladybug. Daft Punk grew up watching Captain Harlock before they were able to make Interstella 5555 with him.
Gavin Scott
>Interstella 5555 I only recently learned of this through Beyond Ghibli. The weirdest things exist.
Jason Martin
Yes. Good stuff.
Thomas Ross
Give me the elevator pitch for this.
Lincoln Bailey
It's just pulpy spy stuff from the 60s.
Ian Cook
If you haven't watched it yet, you need to, I don't think I've heard of another rock opera that was fully animated.
Joseph Thompson
I don't know anything about rock operas.
Kevin Torres
>recent purchases Batman Year One The Dark Knight Returns Batman the Long Halloween Gotham by Gaslight Batman Arkham saga The Killing Joke The Death of Superman Funeral For a Friend Reign of the Supermen The Return of Superman
>what you're currently reading Funeral For a Friend
Samuel Taylor
Then watch Interstella 5555, Tommy, Jesus Christ Super Star, and The Phantom of the Paradise. Might watch Head as well, though it's a trip, not an opera.
Ryder Green
>Funeral For a Friend One of my first purchases, in the World Without A Superman trade. It was fun saying "Ooh, who the fuck is THIS guy?"
Joseph Adams
I might just do that.
Colton Lopez
>Major Bummer Good lad.
I bought the dark horse slactacular edition too as I was phasing out my floppies (trades are just so much less hassle to store.) Best 20 quid I ever spent.
Chase Taylor
Fun fact, Phantom of the Paradise is clearly the inspiration for Femto's design, though there's no concrete proof.
Dylan James
I have seen such comparisons before and see no reason not to believe it.
Zachary Perry
>no Itty Bitty Hellboy
FAKE FAN DETECTED
Easton Johnson
What?
Jacob Harris
Oh hey, you made that other thread! Sorry it 404'd... I tried to keep it going but I ran out of happy/funny comics
Ryan Gomez
These will show up today or tomorrow. Is this it for Morrison Batman or will there be a third? Looking forward to Upcoming Conan and Kirby Omnis
Is the 4th World Omnibus worth getting? It's so massive I was thinking of getting the new gods and mister miracle paperbacks instead. Is the Jimmy Olsen and Forever People stuff essential?
Aiden Walker
>all that Eisner Spirit damn, that's some cool shit user
Elijah Morgan
Anyone else keep their books in a finished basement? I just bought a house and plan on making the basement my office/studio/virginity shrine to video games and comics. It didn't seem moist down there, and I'd definitely get a dehumidifier in any case. I'm paranoid.
I was just looking at plans for those yesterday. I don't think I could manage to build those yet, though, so I'll probably make something simpler to build some skills first. Do you like them?
James Garcia
I like any shelf that has a door because there is a lot of dust in my house.
Justin Long
I lived in a basement for years and had my comics down there with me but I live in a semi-arid environment so that dry, cool atmosphere was pretty much ideal for comics.
Luis Butler
I am in a finished basement but like this guy I live in an arid environment. ( I finally finished my underground fastness last week by laying laminate floors in one of the rooms. It’s comfy as fuck and gloom proof). Keep everything away from the wet wall and out from underneath the upstairs toilets.
Christian Scott
How old is the house? And does it get cold there? The only thing you really have to worry about is pipes bursting unless you live in a floodplain. And if you get snow there you never know how snowmelt might find its way in a basement especially if it's an old place. I would keep the books off the bottom shelf no matter what but it's probably fine.
Jace Campbell
My thoughts exactly. I'll be making doors at the very least, but probably not as complicated as those.
I'm in Wisconsin, and it can get pretty humid here. The couple of times I've been in the basement it's been cool and maybe just slightly musty. There's furniture down there that doesn't seem affected at all, so I think I'll be fine with an overkill dehumidifier next to the shelves.
Lucas Taylor
What are some essential manga to read? horror (but no body horror), shonen, adventure, magic
Cooper Ramirez
As a fellow manga beginner, I've really been enjoying Tezuka's work (Black Jack and Dororo so far), the guy is an incredible draftsman. I've also really found Yoshirio Tatsumi's short story collections from D+Q to be great. He's also just a phenomenal artist. Taiyo Matsumoto is really growing on me too. I've read a little bit of Sunny, and I have GoGo Monster but I've yet to read it. Tekkon Kinkreet is his big recommended one.
Ayden Rodriguez
So why don't you just skip the middle man and just learn japanese?
Justin Ortiz
French is 10x easier to learn and has better digital releases.
Ian Lee
Just one missing, that collects all of the Batman Inc stuff.
Caleb Hall
Does anybody know if IST has any active dicount codes?
Ethan Brown
wheres 7?????????????????????????
Logan Williams
Helck Franken Fran Fire Punch Beelzebub Sengoku Youko Hoshi no Samidare Spirit Circle Pluto Tokyo Ghoul Not him but Japanese is much, much harder to learn than French. Don't forget to read Dai Dark.
David Brown
I know for certain that Franken Fran is pure body horror.
Aiden Nelson
Yes but Fran is very, very sexy so you should read it anyway.
Rumiko Takahashi's popular works are good (Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura, etc.) and are actually shounen. If you haven't already, the original Dragon Ball is full of adventure and magic and takes a lot from the Journey to the West tale. I vaguely remember Magic Knights Rayearth being better and more action-filled than the other isekai manga at the time, too.
Andrew King
I love it all, but opinions vary. It is huge. But I managed and will again, I’m sure.
Ayden James
that looks nothing like the character though
Kevin Carter
I’m in CO at 6000 feet. We get snow, but i’ve only seen about a thimble full of seep im yhe last teo years. Clogged toilet will rain shit water on your books. I narrowly missed putting a shelf under such a ting.
Colton Parker
Jimmy Olsen stuff is completely non-essential and a lot of it has no relation to the 4th World at all. Forever People isn't very good but it's more related to the main stuff at least. New Gods and Mr. Miracle will do you fine. Though even Mr. Miracle ends up turning into a generic villain of the week series that has nothing to do with Kirby's main ideas by the end. All in all the 4th World is massively overrated.
>shonen, adventure, magic Fullmetal Alchemist is what you're looking. Also One Piece but that's so long some people are put off by it.
Zachary Diaz
I disagree, but respect your point of view. I will say, however, that most of Jimmy Olsen and Mr. Miracle do relate to the fourth world. I really enjoyed that Zoomway, Evil factory, the four armed terror, Kirby Superman and all that. I think I’m the only one.
David Green
Didn't buy it because it's garbage. I'm currently reading it.
Elijah Diaz
Jimmy Olsen and the miniature vampires or the dude trying to cause volcanic eruptions were just lame shit that I could've done without. Same goes for Mr. Miracle's later encounters with people who didn't work for Darkseid whose names I've already forgotten. The high points of the 4th World like The Pact are still very high, of course.
William Mitchell
I bid CAD $150 for it at a local online auction, which in the end worked out to CAD $198, including the bidder's premium and the tax on top of everything and I had to pick it up myself. I noticed they were selling elsewhere for a lot more, so I reasoned it was worth it.
Apparently the idea with these barrister bookcases is that they can be moved without taking the books out (not that I would do that).
Shatter's neat, but mostly for being the first digital comic
Joseph Morris
I wish. Pittsburgh isn't too far from me though.
It has a super interesting artstyle. Panel layouts and plot seem kind of standard though. I'll still probably end up picking up issues when I see them.
Matthew Taylor
I want one. I guess they're just glass bookcases.
Jonathan Reed
i'm too grossed out by body horror to enjoy her
Joshua Rodriguez
is everyone on /shelf/ watching his youtube channel? he makes more videos than I can keep up with
Jayden Robinson
Interested to see what type of content they come up with since they're starting to get tired of covering Wizard. Piskor said in a stream if they ever drop Wizard they'll still do small videos based just on the Palmer's Picks bits
Tomorrow I think they only comic I'm picking up is The Goon #3, so probably gonna dive into the $1 bin to make the drive to the shop worth it
Jordan King
>All in all the 4th World is massively overrated. Would agree with this. It was a battle to get through some of that stuff. I found The Demon a lot more readable.
Owen Morales
I just watched most of their videos this week. It's fantastic, and they deverse more subscribers. I've wanted a channel that covers indie or more obscure comics for so long.
I hope they keep doing longer examinations of works. I love their Akira series.
Ethan Rodriguez
Nothing new this week so far, I'll probably end up picking up Symbiote Spider-Man #3 on Thursday or somethin.
I think I'm retarded. Can anyone point me to a good site that offers decent Canadian prices on shopping orders of single issues? There isn't really a decent shop near me.
Aaron Flores
>What do you think about Memoirs in comics? >What story didn't fit in the comic medium?
I was reading pic related yesterday at Barnes & Noble and just got to a point in reading where all I thought was "why was this written? Why was this published? Why should anyone care?" I guess it could get better reading on but it just mostly reads as an internet-obsessed unhappy millennial that is fortunate enough to live in New York City, travel to Japan, and work on her own movie with a popular director. Who is this comic even for?
I still think the Twilight comics are completely out of place every time I remember that they exist.
Oh cool. She sent a little sticker with it too. Also, amazon could learn to box things correctly from her. Box was nice and tight (ahem) just needing a small amount of bubble wrap. Perfect condition. Well helps that it didn't have to be shipped far.
Eh. I like autobiographical comics. My Lesbian Experience with Loniness was pretty great. I like that there is a huge variety stuff like that may just be extremely niche and not for you, doesn't mean there aren't people out there who like that stuff
Hudson Cruz
Found out that Mark Texeria is coming my local comic con (i refuse to stop using that term, SDCC can fuck itself). So now i have to decide if i track down some Vampi issue with his art or just get him to sign my omnibus
Gary Groth likes them and so he made it his life mission to convince the world that they are the purest form of art and all other comics are lowest common denominator garbage.
Liam Hernandez
None of her art is fucking good, you dumb moron. Lurk some shelf threads before posting.
Jordan Phillips
(You)
Hudson Williams
The best you're probably going to be able to do is ebay.
Michael Rogers
The one in Salt Lake?
Connor Hernandez
>just got the delivery date for volume 2 of the berserk omnibus Nice Well if you ever get over not liking body horror I suggest reading it, very good manga.
Liam Harris
I don't like most comic memoirs. Some of them are great (Pretending is Lying, some R Crumb stuff, Disappearance Diary), but most of them are kind of shit. The author either has to have a super interesting or noteworthy life or be a fantastic cartoonist for me to give a shit.
Dylan Hughes
What about stuff like My Friend Dahmer, Trashed and Hostage? I really need to pick up Hostage soon...that sounds like a biography that only really works in comic form
Brayden Rodriguez
The Goyer/Johns run is top tier superhero hi-jinks with tons of comfy character interaction and fun adventure. It also features based Black Adam doing nothing wrong.
Blake Taylor
I like a chunk of them too, I deeply enjoy revisiting Persepolis, Maus, and Blankets. I also agree that My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness was fantastic, I guess it's how the author writes about themselves/their experiences that makes a difference. MLEwL was less about her being a lesbian and much more about her coping with such crippling depression to a point that you felt every crushing emotional turmoil.
And I think that's what makes a graphical memoir exceptional, it's about something beyond just the author yet feeling incredibly personal at the same time.
Noah Wilson
I don't *hate* them. I just think that some don't warrant their creation outside of diary entries, and yet I see a quite an uptick in cartoonists doing them. The latest is the She-ra showrunner (Noelle) setting up to release her own memoir.
Yeah...there's so many series I need to complete in my buylist. I need more money.
Kayden Bell
I think Derf is a great cartoonist so Dahmer and Trashed kind of fall into both camps. Haven't read Hostage, but it sounds a interesting enough. More interesting than the typical comic memoir which is just the boring life of a mediocre cartoonist.
Jordan Martinez
Some are good. Some are bad. I'm guessing it takes something special to make it work, though, but no more than any other medium but no less either. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the worse ones are from those who really don't have much to say nor the talent to present it in an effective way in comic form.
Michael Perez
Same can be said about superhero comics. There is a ton of trash. Just cause something is an autobio, an indie or whatever other genre doesn't mean that there is both good and bad stuff in it.
Brayden Hall
I'm being indecisive. Should I buy The Great Darkness Saga or start up on those Grimjack Omnis?
Ryan Collins
Great Darkness Saga is mega OOP. Where have you found it and for what price? That being said, Bendis is reviving Legion so I suspect they will reprint their most essential story.
Ethan Howard
>Where Amazon >for what price About 50 with shipping. And fuck DC's trade department I'm not going to trust them to reprint anything that isn't Batman related and already available in at least 5 different formats.
Leo Barnes
This has had a much deeper lore than i expected. The first arc was mostly just fluff sex and introducing characters. But the further i get in the book the more interested i an in the world. Impressive to have amazing art, a good story and extremely hot sex all in one book.
Nathaniel Morales
50 isn't a bad price from what I've seen. If you don't trust in a reprint, then yeah this is a situation to snag something while the price is right.
Hudson Martinez
Guess Grimjack will have to wait then.
Jayden Diaz
I had no idea that the Grimjack omnis continued after IDW stopped producing them.
Daniel Cook
some of my recent purchases nothing shown here cost more than 9.99
I'm jealous, I don't think I ever have any luck with bargain bins.
Lucas Diaz
>Suicide Squad Silver Age Omnibus >Soon to be a major motion picture, this new graphic novel collection features the origins of the Suicide Squad! Collects THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD#25-27, #37-39. That thick for just six issues?

They still don't wrap up the whole series, do they? It's the ol' Ostrander curse.
Justin Garcia
Good finding The Question in bargain bins. My only trade of that was from one too.
Caleb Perez
Looks like vol 4 goes up to 65, and Grimjack lasted until 81. Vol 4 also looks to be a bit smaller than expected too, if this amazon listing is right (11 issues). The volumes seem to be yearly released in September-November month range, so not all hope is lost yet. Looks like a company part-owned by Mike Gold (legendary editor of that title and lots of Grell's DC work). He was deeply involved in First Comics
Levi Gray
Don't you go getting my hopes up now, son.
David Cook
How do you guys sort your books? By series? By author? By publisher, and then by series?
Luis Cooper
Publisher, then series. If there's some thematic connection it's also nice to put them next to each other if possible.
Ethan Rogers
By whim
Grayson Scott
>sorts by spine color
Caleb Nguyen
many factors. I try to meet in a middle. I guess the one overarching thing is publisher
Oliver Adams
I try to go by publisher but sometimes you have series that have multiple publishers so it gets murky
Caleb Nguyen
honestly it is all whim, sometime by publisher, Marvel is pretty easy that way. Other times I break upi genres like DC and Vertigo. And lots of times I do genres or writers or styles. it is all whim
Isaiah Bailey
bump
Jason Williams
How do you guys deal with the fact that cheaper (Ikea) shelves have weaker materials when on a budget? Is there any way to make cheap shit like a Billy shelf more sturdy? I really want to buy a cheap shelf but I'm scared that I'd end up having a Ghost Rider scenario with my Omnis
Jason Mitchell
Keep heavier books near the bottom.
Anthony Thompson
But I actually don't want my most expensive books to be the least visible ones, damn
Bentley Martin
I'd recommend getting the Kallax over the Billy, it's far more sturdy. Just stack them on top of each other if you need more room.
William Morris
but Kallax has even cheaper materials (hollow insides), doesn't it? I assume it only seems more sturdy because the single rows are shorter, which in turn makes the entire thing bend less in comparison to longer rows
John Bennett
>I assume it only seems more sturdy because the single rows are shorter, which in turn makes the entire thing bend less in comparison to longer rows It does make it sturdier. Less load on the individual shelves, no sagging and worry of it all collapsing.
Robert Kelly
Who is looking at your shelves?
Gabriel Nelson
the problem I have is that we already have a Kallax in our living room (no, I don't want people touching my goddamn books whenever they come by). I don't want the same thing twice so I wanted an actual book shelf
>tfw it would only be my gf and I apart from some friends I'd give a quick look >tfw my gf thinks comics are silly because she hasn't read them yet I-I-I'm the only one that counts, user!!!
Ryder Jackson
>I-I-I'm the only one that counts, user!!! Based
James Evans
How will you get your gf into comics? What's your big plan, buster? Sandman?
Colton Smith
>I wanted an actual book shelf then save up some money and buy a quality book shelf made of something other than balsa
Jaxson Anderson
Between that, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, and probably some select manga, it usually does the trick.
Oliver Long
Bumbing to ask if Secret Six is a good series?
Noah Cox
honest to god, try Sunstone
Brandon Miller
I already own the hardcovers. Are you telling me I can use them on actual women?
Mason Martinez
to get your gf into comics? yes
Christopher Collins
Do they get them into other things also, wink-wink, nudge-nudge if you catch my meaning?
John Morgan
relationship drama? women are naturals at that. Into Girls? Again most women are already. OR BDSM? nah, that's all on you
Eli Cox
Please stop shilling Sunstone. A girl would definitely not like it.
Ethan Cook
have sex
Ayden Harris
Why not? I don't understand the female mind at all so you'll have to walk me through this.
Christian Ortiz
found two issues in the bargain bin
Camden White
It's one of the smaller Omnibus' There is under 500 pages in it. It's the size of the old Hardcovers that Marvel used to sell before the Disney buyout for $30.
David Perry
The majority of its readers are women. I bet you think women wouldnt like 50 shades of grey either
