Could mutant hate be a real thing in this day and age? If anything I'd be jealous I can't fly or create ice, but wouldn't be beating on someone with powers

Yes but the arguments for and against would sound more like the gun control debate

>Could people being afraid and hating other people because they're different be a real thing in this day and age?
Gee, I don't know, user.,

Obviously, and mostly stemming from fear. Imagine a mass school shooting but instead of a kid with a gun it's an angry kid with superpowers melting them with eye lasers or ripping them apart with giant claws. That's all it would take. Just one superpowered asshole killing people who can't do anything about it. The fear and mistrust would already likely have been stewing but this would push it over the edge to being like what you see in X-Men.

Goddamn this looks good
Please go full mutant supremacy Jonathan

I just don't think it'll be as massive as back in the 90s in terms of mutant hate, there were so many groups, I could believe sapiens and military types who want mutants for use as weapons but not too much else

Pre-House of M there was thousands of mutants around - and 99% had no powers or weak/non-combat powers like 'can change the colour of their skin'.
The X-men were the 1% mutants - powerful abilities they could (mostly) control.

Thus, mutants were a racial minority - one where a few had powers but most didn't, and you had terrorists (Brotherhood of Evil Mutants) killing people in the name of mutant rights.

So you bet your ass they would be getting a kicking.

"Today, officer Whiteman shot and killed an unarmed mutant teenager..."
>How do we know he was 'unarmed'? He's a mutant!
>The officer was protecting us from the mutant menace!
>The policeman was in justifiable fear of his life - witnesses say the mutant threatened him with his 'lazor vision'
>A mutant gave my kid autism!

>Walking nuke refuses to register
Think of the chillen

All of those are pretty realistic concerns

The body cam will tell us and putting mutants on equal tier with blacks? Nah no race is ever that low

>If anything I'd be jealous
Even in older comics, this is precisely the reason for most mutant hate. That, and religious bigotry, with is still going strong in the US.

Based realistic post

>and 99% had no powers or weak/non-combat powers
No. The vast majority of mutants have always had innocuous but useful powers. Prodigy is a good example.

>he doesn't know

Ahem.

Fuck muties

I want this

>Could bigotry be a real thing in this day and age?
you think?

Pretty much these, I feel bad for the poor fuckers whose mutation is just deformity, but jealous of not being a cool beast man or metal skin

Not as strongly as they wrote it back in the 80s and 90s

the mutants can be an allegory for any kind of opressed group/bigotry. Burgers clearly aren't in short supply of both.

Depends. Does the first mutant to show up attack an Army base while shouting about how mutants are going to replace humanity?
Will he be stopped by a team of mutants that at first seem to stand against him but will soon have him and his fellow terrorists as fucking team members while having the same replacement supremacist ideology just with nonviolence?
We may never know.

Rather not. I just want them to be an endangered species being hunted but not really hated, just people wanting to exploit them for their abilities

Ignoring the whole feminism message at the bottom of the pic, I wonder if the presence of so many radiation accident victim heroes like the FF, Spider-Man, half of his villains, and Hulk would cause a lot of people so do some incredibly insane and self destructive things in some attempt to get superpowers too.

Well things like riots, mass shootings, major incidents or really crazy individuals getting into power, really any weird happening might be theorized as some psychic compelling people to do crazy things.

People might take a look at a riot or major protest that went south and start to wonder if they were forced to act like that because a psychic mutant made them do it.

How many more Alex Jones and Glenn Beck types would be out there claiming the damn mutants are causing every major ill of society and every huge newsworthy event?

the only way for modern mutant hate to exist if mutants ran around and paraded themselves as true homo SUPERIOR. if they went full bluecheck koolaid "silly flatscans, mutants are the futures, we're better than all of you, have coitus you virgins teehee"

it's the only way to do it, modern society is very tolerant nowadays, gays can get married for pete's sake. it'll be interesting to see how feige updates the x-men for the MCU, since muh inequality doesn't really carry weight

based hickman knows what to do, if xavier goes full dick mode, it'll give humans a reason to hate x-men, which is what could happen in the films down the line

It does in DC. Even works a couple of times.

This. But I find it hard to believe x-men spouting around how humans are pathetic and not as blessed as they are

> I find it hard to believe x-men spouting around how humans are pathetic and not as blessed as they are
this could be the next evolution of being able to keep the hate against mutants alive

classic era was civil rights allegory
modern era was gay rights allegory
post-modern era could be "mutant nationalism/supremacy"

Probably a lot like this. Jones constantly tells people now that psychic powered elite unseen cabals are compelling people to become trans and gay, commit shootings and bomb churches.

The proven existence of actual psychic mutants that have the ability to take over the mind would make every single action on earth into a conspiracy theory.

if there were such thing as a "superior" race, the other races would disdain, demoralize, and attempt to abuse them for fear of erasure. they would lust after them secretly but decry their mixing bc they would know to mix w them is to be genetically erased. the men would fear and hate their men and the women would fear and want their men and so meet them in secret or in fantasy. they would ape and pantomime their art, linguistics, and physical attributes while projecting disdain, the other races would do all they could to pathologize this race and position them outside the norm so as to remove them from competition. and this hatred would be instant, sight unseen, and felt on an instinctive level globally. and because true superioty would be a threat to the inferior, the tyranny of the coalesced weak would be united in a global anxiety. there would be only performative sympathy when they are abused, and there would be an endless fascination w their natural abilities, their talents, their environment.

if there existed a race superior to the rest, competition and fear would demand a global hatred and prompt a global abuse and theft

If

I still want to know how the he'll she has a spider-man shirt if she's older than Pete, she was already doctor and shield agent when Pete was starting out as Spider-man.
