Final Space’s cutesy, simplistic character design style keeps it from having any fappable characters besides Avocato.

I hope that Gary gives Avocato the dignified farewell or send-off he deserves...if he ever finds his body.

Their deep friendship made me - an usually grumpy cynical sod - all warm and fuzzy inside...and Gary's heavy grief from that sacrifice felt really awful. I'm just glad Gary kept his promise as being a good step-dad to Lil' Cato, at least by the looks of it...and I hope the adventurous spirit the show's first season has never fades with this new dynamic (plus bew characters) just as what Gary had with Avo.

They need to remove Kevin or the dumb alien, less screaming, make Gary a little bit more confident, and don't put a comedic scene where it doesn't belong. Everything else in the show is fine.

Because the only conventional human characters like Quinn don't seem to have a sense of genuine affection (as far as the audience is concerned) around him - it's all either down to reactionary defense from Gary's antics or means of manipulation to a gain.

I'm pretty amused at how Final Space is is the only animated show where last-minute socially progressive moves would be widely agreed upon as great improvements, which does say something about the crucial character dynamics written...

KVN will humilate HUE this season by being the more useful robot, can't wait to see it

I want to know why the fuck Olan basically owns the prison ship even when hes locked up and can pilot it around freely. Might as well have sent him on vacation as punishment. And why does he suddenly own the ship when his sentance is through, shouldn't it fly back to home base or whatever and swap out another prisoner? The entire premise of the ship is a huge bullshit plot hole.

AT&T is phasing out anything with the Turner name on it. They siphoned Final Space off onto Adult Swim rather than canceling it because it pulled modest ratings and a devoted social media fanbase on a network not known for its original animated series.

I'm glad they gave it to Adult Swim. The 2D/3D integration in Harmony is nigh-flawless this season, it actually looks like it was all hand-drawn.

They don't bother spending much time touching up the ships because uncanny 2D ships in a 3D cartoon have been standard since the 90s and everyone is used to it. The characters are in 3D and run through software that does a computer-enhanced approximation of rotoscoping.

First episode is enjoyable, but I do consider the ultra-fast pacing a little bit sloppy. There wouldn't be any logical reason for that junkyard owner to put Gary in charge of piloting the ship in the first place.

Before that it was ok yet getting proggresively better and better till Ep 6 happened and the show went full great after that.

Pros and Cons from the Primere

Pro: Even if it was only for a short epilouge scene it was nice in some compacity to see the Lord Commander.

Con: I didn't like how Nightfall was the one to kill the Lord Commander and the justification for it was she's already killed the Lord Commander over the course of 100 different timelines and how she knows everything that is about to happen up until the event where they free Bolo but she has no idea what will happen once Bolo is released from his dimensional prison

Pro: I love Little Cado. I didn't care much for him in Season 1 but his unyielding bloodlust during the race was hysterical. "GIVE ME THIS RACE RIGHT NOW!"

Con: I don't like how soon Gary and Mooncake got back together its like Gary didn't do anything to justify his reunitement with Mooncake and it has to do with the fact how Nightfall was the one to kill the Lord Commander they make it this big tragic thing how Gary and Mooncake were separated but they're back together like less then a day later

Again I look forward to next week's episode because the horrifying looking red alien which looks like Wilt is going to be the focus of next week's episode the one that was voiced by Tom Kenny. By the way, you notice how Tom is doing triple the voice acting duty now since I guess most of the budget went into the animation and then hiring people like Keith David, Ashley Burch and Jane Lynch as voice actors. Tom has to pick up the slack among the other characters.

I'm pretty sure this would still support the series in the end since TV networks nowadays rely on streaming and app views rather than Nielsen ratings. IIRC, [as] keeps each new episode up for about a week after they've aired.

So I caught up on the first season this week, and I'll be honest, I have no fucking idea why I keep watching. Like, It's not bad, it has some good humor about it sometimes, not laugh out loud humor but it's pretty alright. The characters are alright, nobody annoys me.. I'm just really confused what the target audiance is. It appears to be adult focused with all the blood and guts, but at the same time, they seem to really hold back on the language used, and it's very PG as far as any sexual themes.

I binged the first season last night and I both love and hate this show. Its dramatic beats work, the characters are likeable and their interactions are great, but the show just has this grating, irritating habit of trying to be funny at each and every opportunity. Like I actually said "Fucking shut up" out loud when Gary kept interrupting Avocato's monologue about his past with his fucking awful attempts at quipping. Gary is the single most irritating part of his own show and almost every scene actively benefits from him either not being present or just not fucking talking.

I have such a strange relationship with this show. Gary can be super annoying at times, humour is hit and miss and sometimes really badly timed, and the dialogue can be super fucking cheesy. Yet somehow, I really enjoyed the first season and really looking forward to the rest of 2. It's not perfect, it has flaws, but there is just something about it that I just really enjoy it and I can't really explain what it is.

I get the feeling Olan wants Final Space to be approachable for broader audiences, almost "suitable for the whole family" like The Simpsons and the MCU movies are.

That, and I'm sure the FS crew tries to actively avoid having mature censorship like bleeps and pixelated nudity to make the show feel more cinematic and "real." Bob's Burgers and King of the Hill did the same, and I've got mad respect for any American adult cartoon that isn't constantly trying to spell out how "mature" and edgy they are.

That feels like a cop out. Sometimes a show just needs to go there when it comes to sexual content or violence. FS isn't "about" sex so it wouldn't be necessary to show anything explicit, but given the relationships between characters, it should at least be acknowledged more than it has.

That describes several Netflix adult cartoons in a nutshell. I appreciate that BoJack limits its F-bombs for the most shocking, dramatic moments. Disenchantment also refrains from being heavily raunchy, probably to maintain the Groening brand (it's the only Netflix adult cartoon that isn't TV-MA).

I was hoping Olan would flesh more about Lord Commander through Avo and his family's experiences living under his regime and how it affected them all. Even arcs around certain characters linked to him like Terk would be interesting to see. Though, the reveal of LC's background and how he was made evil because unexpected thrashing and "TITANS" left some bad taste to me: we're suppose to expect some sort of redemption now, after everything he's done? He's gonna be fuel for romanticized angst like how people saw Draco or Snape.

Coming back to Avocato: for some reason, I felt (during the first episodes) like he was planned so close into having some sort of Oskar Schindler-like revelation of conscience prior to his deadly redemption, but they were short on episodes.

i like this show for different reasons:

1: i am sick of Perfect Cartoons. this one has many flaws but they also give it a nice touch.
2: the guy who made it showed that it is possible to go own risk and get shit done.
3: the cartoon is fucking 3d shit. which is my thing.
4: lovable but inperfect characters.
5:awfuly voice work but still good touch like old man telling the tales with failed fake voices.
6: shamless epic posing and bad puns.
7: shit is simple but still has deep story.
8: one of few comics without fucking gay shit. please keep it gay free.

The writing was forgivable because there was at least an overarching continuous plot everything was clearly working towards. His voice was the most off-putting thing about him. I think Olan even admitted as much and that it would be dialed down in season two in a tweet or something.

Gary's voice wasn't a problem for me, personally...but his long-winding, verbose talking can be a bit hindering or grating at scenes where minimal noise is needed at most for people to absorb emotionally (his desolation of drifting in space, wailing in mourning of Avocato in ep 7 etc)

I pity the subbers and dubbers of Netflix who have to make sense of anything wacky and off-kilter (to Olan) he has to say...

We get it for the 500th time, user - you want Gary and Avocato to be the first widely-received mainstream gay (as in "men who love men", not the general "homosexual" meaning nowadays) cartoon pairing in Western animation just like the rest of us.
