Oh I come from a land

Oh I come from a land
From a faraway place
Where the caravan camels roam...

It's Barbaric, but hey it's home!

what ancient arabic country does it take place in ?

sheba ? hadramaut ? qedar ? moab ? edom ? nabatea ? midian ? himyar ?

It's not ancient, it's medieval Agrabah.

it takes place in shemautdarmoedteaianyar

prove it

its based off an idealized medieval Arab view of Sassanid Baghdad.

The whole meta-story of the 1001 nights is that a Sassanid emperor gets cheated on and decides to kill any subsequent wives he marries after 3 years to keep them from cheating. The stories themselves are his latest wife's gambit to save herself by telling a story each night with a cliffhanger ending so he wont kill her. Aladdin is just an Arabized Chinese folk story they set as happening in some unspecified time in pre-islamic Persia

The term Sultan was first used to refer to a ruler in the 9th century, and the first Sultanate appeared in 11th century.

Um, what? The framing story clearly happens after the rule of Harun al-Rashid (died in 809), who is a character in a lot of the stories. The book itself was written in the 10th century, but the story of Aladdin was added to it by a French translator, who heard it from a Syrian storyteller. It's not Chinese, it just takes place in China, which at the time was little more than a code word for some distant exotic land.

Nothing about Aladdin is Chinese. It takes place "in China" but that's in name only. Its setting is Arabian in every sense of the word.

Agrabah isn't a real city retards

But it was supposed to be Baghdad, as in Prince of Baghdad, the move it's partially based on, until they were told to change it.

Which is interesting because Genie himself references Sharazzad's 1001 tales at one point. Which almost goes beyond a 4th wall break, it's basically breaking the wall of a story within a story at that point.

Hey kid wanna /ss/?

In the remake she seems so incredulous that she has to fucking pay for food.

I COME FROM A LAND DOWN UNDER!

inb4 "You have to go back."

>Sharazzad
Scheherazade.

>Which almost goes beyond a 4th wall break, it's basically breaking the wall of a story within a story at that point.
The Genie literally ends the movie by pulling up the animation cel.

Did it have slimy, egg-sucking salamanders?

Mostly Bagdad, but there's some other areas of the middle east (and some India) mixed in. Whether it was an intentional choice or the writers just not caring is anyone's guess.

Aladdin passes an elderly man reaching out for food before he gives his food to the children and her mom instead
Bits and pieces of One Jump Ahead have amateurish sped up footage
Jafar literally says "You are nothing to the princess, but you could be." as a complete sentence

>Aladdin passes an elderly man reaching out for food
Get fucked Boomer

I hadn't really thought about it out of context, but man that shot in the pic is so atmospheric and satisfying to watch.

Thanks for the good vibes OP.

Stop trying to tear this family apart

Deserts are a very underrated aesthetic, especially at night.
