Why were these three friends anyway? They had
absolutely nothing in common.You can't even do the social outcasts angle because we saw tech geeks Tucker could have been friends with, and there were plenty of goths Sam could have hung out with. Other than his parents Danny himself didn't even have anything that would typically put him in any sort of outer social group. His parents were weird, but usually no one cares what someone else's parents do for a living unless it's something they can benefit from. These three never seemed particularly interested in their friends personal interests.

Tuck and Danny would work on their own desu. They both like weird nerd shit like sci-fi and video games, and plus you get that best black friend trope. Sam has literally nothing to really have their friendship work. She fucking hides all these layers to her life, resulting in constant moments of her two "friends" finding out all kinds of shit they should've known if they were actually friends.

yeah when I was fiddling with ideas for a Danny Phantom reboot, I came to pretty simple solutions for fixing Sam and Tucker;

1) Tucker gets the boot entirely as a character and several of his attributes get distributed to other characters(Valerie takes his slot as Danny's best friend*, Jazz takes his role as Danny's Tech Support*, and I'll go into what Sam takes from him in the next point)

2) with Sam I decided to toss out almost everything about her as a character except her name, her overall design(although it'd definitely be seeing tweaks), the fact that she's a goth, and that she's rich, this version of Sam is overall a lot nicer(she'd be a textbook definition of "perky goth"), she actively embraces and utilizes her family's wealth(and thus isn't a social pariah like her canon counterpart^), for the most part isn't an activist at all, and since Tucker isn't around to use it she inherits his love of meat

*this means both Valerie and Jazz start the series out knowing Danny is half-ghost(Valerie still ends up with the ghost hunting gear her canon self has, but the specifics that lead to that go in a completely different direction)

^similarly Danny's default social status is much better in this version, as in this universe the Fenton's have been much more successful as Ghost Hunters prior to Danny gaining his powers, so Danny is actually somewhat popular since his parents have saved the town several times minimum prior to the show starting(along with the fact that this gets rid of some of the more tedious aspects of the show, it also makes Danny's civilian life crib less blatantly from Spider-Man than it does in canon)

Early Rigby was an asshole but then again so was Mordecai. Rigby at least got better over time and mellowed out while Mordecai continued to be a jackass with his love interests.

For Dale it was because they knew he would go fucking postal if he ever found out. Besides Dale "sort of" learned that his son wasn't his (via thinking it was aliens) and ended up not caring. He still loved him as his own son as he was the one who raised and cared for him.

The guy can be a bit of a prick when he finally gets something good going for himself (which leads to him inevitably fucking it up). He also could have made a shit ton of money selling his bbq sauce but chose to listen to his faggot cousin instead who literally sold their family home and wrote a book about it all

For Boomhauer he wasn't fucking with anyone's wife that they knew of so they really didn't give a shit. He was always the single ladies man of the group

Making a character fat is sometimes easy visual shorthand that may indicate they are selfish/greedy/slothful. These are often traits that also make the character an asshole and a bad friend.

Pic related even got a whole episode directly spelling out how him being fat was related to him being a bad friend and a bad person.

The other direction fat characters might go is them being generous jolly party loving goofballs, but even then, they’re usually driven by hedonism and this can come around to hurting their friendships in some way.

If they didn’t want friends for convenience, then they wouldn’t be mocking in the first place. I’d say it’s also more girls than women who carry pettiness (which is really no better or worse than guys who carry it), but there’s a specific REASON they carry it rather than just grumble and moan at the first one they see. It could also be that women are discouraged to publicly show aggression. Most of it really depends on the workplace, school, or other environment people were raised in. Teens are still figuring life out and developing common sense. All the negative aspects of friendship usually die out as you get older, much like people getting wiser when they age. Sooner or later, you both learn to look back at all the bullshit and laugh. If people really hated each other, then there’d be no world to live in.

Mordecai also made Muscleman's wedding about himself for five minutes. Mordecai made some speech which only really applied himself. and he tried to act like it was some big moment while everyone like Benson was trying to tell him to shut the fuck up during his speech.
Morecai was also supposed to get some sort of special eggnog for Rigby's graduation party but he dumped it on the side of the road when he realized his superiority complex would be challenged once Rigby finally got his diploma.
I also remember a time in which Rigby went along with Mordecai on some trip to go see Margaret to return her shirt, and Rigby was trying to tell him he's being too obsessed over Margaret. Mordecai realized his mistake by the end of the episode but not until after he kicked Rigby out of the car.
Correct me if any of these are wrong, its been awhile since I've seen these episodes, but Mordecai really is the worst friend.

Forgot to add: Rigby has done at least one awful thing to Mordecai. In the move Rigby tricked Mordercai through forgery into thinking he didn't get into the college he wanted. All because Rigby didn't want Mordecai to go to college without him.
But there was an episode early on in which Mordecai straight up killed Rigby by pushing him into the void. Mordecai was only able to get him back thanks to Father Time. Mordecai only killed Rigby because Rigby told him Margaret doesn't even know who he is

He may have been kind of a worthless slob most of the time, but as far as being a good friend goes, he was the kind of person who would drop whatever he had going on at the drop of a hat just to do somebody a favor, no matter what crazy thing they asked of him. He was crazy loyal and selfless to a fault, and those are good qualities for a friend or flunky. I almost feel like not having Sam and Tucker in the main cast at all, or at least not at first, would have better helped emphasize how alone Danny felt about not being a full human or ghost. I think it's largely because of what exaggerated TV/movies sells to kids about high school or what school life is "suppose" to be like.
