Armond White DESTROYS Toy Story 4
>The Toy Story franchise is the closest thing we have to an undisputed national anthem, a popular belief that celebrates what we think we all stand for — cooperation, ingenuity, and simple values, such as perpetual hope. This fact of our infantile, desensitized culture became apparent back in 2010 when I took a knee on Toy Story 3 and Rotten Tomatoes sprouted death threats — as if I had made Ilhan Omar–style comments against the history of America and its institutions.
>That mob-like mania is depicted during a fairly creepy sequence in Toy Story 4 when cowboy doll Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) explores an antiques-and-consignment store and is threatened by a menacing phalanx of lookalike, thinkalike, actalike Pee-wee Herman dolls. It’s a Pixar vision of a high-tech lynching, but this mad dash by revengeful analog gadgets also, inadvertently, symbolizes the conformity that has taken over amusement culture: The Toy Story franchise proves that movies (especially from Disney and Pixar) are produced to be critic-proof.

He received death threats for Toy Story 3. People are nuts

>Armond White
Are we that fucking desperate?

This man is a fucking legend
>mouseketeers

With facts and logic?
meh. author is a nigger. glad I didn't waste time reading that drivel.
>Armond White hates it
So it's actually not that bad then?
And watch classic movies.
My gripe with this review is that he barely fucking says ANYTHING of note about the film itself. His message is sound, especially about Pixar nowadays going for cheap emotional bait over actual substance. But this reads more as some rant from him about fundementally disagreeing with the idea of Pixar as a whole rather than an actual review. It's not a bad rant, but it a review it is not.
Okay, I can understand finding Toy Story 4 bad and hating how Pixar movies are supposed to just be liked without thought.
>Voiced by Keanu Reeves, Duke Caboom offers nothing close to the giddy delight of that relentless, surreal, slapstick taxi-cab battle in John Wick 2.
But what the fuck did he mean by this? That Toy Story needs to be more like John Wick?
Where's the lie??
>So it's actually that bad then
ftfy
No, he's saying that JW2 was unintentionally hilarious.
You say that like the series is trying to take itself seriously.

>They hated him because he told them the truth.
Armond dropping dem truth nukes like hey going out of style
Simply based
Does he use epic thought and logic though?
>The Toy Story franchise is the closest thing we have to an undisputed national anthem
this guy is a monkey aping words he has heard but doesnt understand. Does he not know what undisputed means?

You make it sound like he's a youtuber with a rantsona in his thumbnails that's always crossing his arms.
Jesus fuck, I mocked him for being a hack but this fucker tried to warn us.
No. But please share with us your thoughts from your big smarty pants brain.
>Undisputed
>not disputed or called in question; accepted.
>He's essentially saying how Disney has such control on our every day life that criticizing it or calling them out on it will have mob's of people, including the news media itself, call you a heretic
>Using Toy Story as an example of an "undisputed national anthem" in the sense that it's one of Disney's many properties that are deemed unquestionably perfect and anyone saying otherwise will get backlash to patriotic level brand loyalty
You're an undisputed faggot user.
Anything to own those Japs.
I mean, it wasn't a great film, but no need to go full autistic and literally write an article about a kid's movie
He’s correct
he hasn't seen it yet
>That Toy Story needs to be more like John Wick?
That Keanu is there to attract people obsessed with him and doesn’t contribute anything to the film
You're telling on yourself for being a dumbass
It's so frustrating. He's so close to denouncing capitalism. So close. But his rightist conditioning stops him just short of it. He's so much closer to someone like Adorno than he is to the typical insincere rightist approach to media analysis.
This. It's incredibly autistic for a film reviewer to write a film review.
>kids movies shouldn't be criticised because it's meant for children
Shouldn't kids be the ones to decide that since it's meant for them and not you?
>The Toy Story franchise proves that movies (especially from Disney and Pixar) are produced to be critic-proof.
This is why they have more awards than any other animation studio.
But when Brie Larson said that middle aged male film critics are probably not the target audience for A Wrinkle In Time everyone wanted to crucify her for it.
That's what Armond White does. He did the same thing when he trashed on Toy Story 3.
> DESTROY
fuck off pajeet
That's dumb. You're dumb.
All art has the right to be scrutinized.
What do I need to do to become like this?
This guy has a persecution complex and a high horse.
I hate this line of thought because it's basically saying "Who cares what children consume? Let them eat cake for all I care!"
Fuck you asshole, kids might have a harder time distinguishing good from bad, but that doesn't mean we should just dump shit on their heads. Those kids are just as entitled to something decent as you grown ass is, it's such a bullshit copout argument that can be summed up as "Things made for kids ideally would have no quality standards and thus should never be criticized."
Yeah, but that is just because she's irritating.
This.
You're not wrong, but neither is he.
There's no stopping this man.
His famous for being the black sheep of critics for not liking Toy Story 3, so he has to go on an all out assault on Toy Story 4 for those clicks and adviews. I doubt any of this writing is sincere and done purely out of exploitation and entertainment.
Watch classic movies.
Read a lot.
Practice your writing.
Don't join the hivemind.
He labeled Jonah Hex a good movie. Defend that.
Just like other critics praise other shitty movies. Your point?
He's a retard
No point then.
>like hey going out of style
user...
Armond White is a gay black dude who acts contrary and feigns outrage for attention and money. If that weirdo RuPaul and Jussie Smollett taught us anything, that's all their kind knows how to do.
>being a communist
>being naturally retarded
>the year of our lord 2010+8+1
actual commies reap the benefits of capitalism every day while biting the hand that feeds them. You rarely, if ever, meet a poor commie
Oh my god, that old gotcha. Just because you live in a capitalist nation and use capitalist technology and infrastructure doesn't mean you have to uncritically accept that there is no better alternative to capitalism. Martin Luther lived under Catholicism and was educated under Catholicism and he was still the founder of the Protestant church.
His Coraline review was just a Wall-E review
Wait, he's gay? I'm taking my "based" back.
The only question about Toy Story 4
How THICC is Betty?
>You rarely, if ever, meet a poor commie
You haven't ever visited a communist country have you?
>Betty
Obesityfags really are retarded.
Communism is not a better alternative, you're advocating the exchange of one failing system for another.
Poor communist's usually exist via extensive propaganda that through a rigged education system give the people false information of the world outside their own country and pin all the countries failings to an external threat the common man will rarely ever actually see. Even then though most people now what they're drinking is Kool-Aid when they see it and are usually just poor honest folks trapped in a shitty system that will punish dissent and fort one reason or another can't migrate.
t.Cuban.
>Oh my god, that old gotcha.
The word is "platitude." And it ain't one.
>Just because you live in a capitalist nation and use capitalist technology and infrastructure doesn't mean you have to uncritically accept that there is no better alternative to capitalism.
If you were to remove the majority of wannabe Communists from the capitalist society they're in, they'd likely die or at least fail to thrive, so yeah, it does mean that.
Not to mention, we still haven't seen an example of a Communist society that works, so how is it a better alternative?
>Martin Luther lived under Catholicism and was educated under Catholicism and he was still the founder of the Protestant church
Apples and oranges. Religious upheaval can't be compared with economic upheaval, unless you're in the Middle East or somewhere like that.
Sounds like capitalism and communism have a lot in common.
God, you're such a cocksmoker
It never actually occurred to me that armond was from one of those internet conservative rags.
>A nugget of a loosely appealing argument surrounded by pure outrageous nonsense designed to bring an outraged response
It suddenly makes a lot more sense
nice reading comprehension blindlet
Your post is self demonstrating of the argument you're trying to make, just replace conservative with liberal.
I mean, not entirely wrong. It's not exactly an uncommon strategy to try and outrage your opponent to make them appear hysterical to an outside observer.
He also writes for a gay magazine.
>Ilhan Omar–style

Can't he outright say that Disney tried to bribe him like the other critics?

Didn't even read the article or the thread, he's just a notorious contrarian shitposter.
And you're surprised that he's celebrated here because?
>The Toy Story franchise proves that movies (especially from Disney and Pixar) are produced to be critic-proof.
Not surprised, just disappointed.
Yeah, people who aren't in the hivemind should be shot.
If you criticize Toy Story, the Disney Internet Defense Force gets you.
Whoa, dude, fight the power.
People like you is why animation will never mature into anything more than what it already is.

Based Armond
You may not always agree with his reviews or his political ramblings, but, damn, does the man know his cinema.
brainlet here
what did he mean by this?
what the fuck, it's actually based
I mean, he may be a contrarian bastard, but even broken clocks are right twice a day. This movie does everything in its power to shit on everything the last three films built up, yet most critics are still eating it up anyway because they're afraid of the inevitable lynch mob if you say otherwise.
dear Yea Forums,
I'll stop complaining about you fucks if you promise to make one Armond post for every two live-action capeshit posts.
sincerely, user
What happens in toy story 4 thats so bad it ruins the rest of the movies? I haven't watched it and this guys review makes little sense to me without the context of the movie.
I really have no idea what he's saying, how is toystory critic proof?
the king of Yea Forums or something
Being a contrarian is just as bad.
>b-but what about
ebin
You keep proving him right. Pixardroids can’t stand dissent. It’s live action reddit
>it's meant for them and not you?
It’s this the 2019 spin? You can’t review a movie because it’s not for you?
Is Armond retarded or a troll? It seems like he does some of these movies dirty on purpose. I'm not shilling Toy Story I'm just genuinely curious.
But pixar movies aren't live action?
>Forky recalls the lonely desperation of Blade Runner’s toymaker who said he made his friends himself. But that notion is even darker and more complicated than Pixar’s nihilistic Wall-E. Thus, Bonnie’s awkward, Asperger-spectrum imagination brings unfair competition to Pixar’s toy-movie monopoly, so Forky is characterized as a snarky, neurotic outcast, an existential threat to the regular toy characters who are easily marketable tie-in products.
What a moron. Disney movies are well reviewed because they're genuinely good movies. Really the only movies worth seeing. What would you rather see? Avengers or Godzilla? Obviously avengers.
>bro, commies are evil. They stole my gusano grandparent's plantations and slaves!
It shits on everything TS 1-3 set up. Woody just runs off to be with Bo, all of the old toys barely have any lines. It's the same problem as Wreck-It-Ralph 2 or the Star Wars sequels, they clearly give no fucks about whatever themes and characterization already established.
I like this guy's take better instead.
nationalreview.com
>If earlier films in the franchise were about loss and abandonment and saying goodbye to childhood, this one is pretty much just about getting from one physical-comedy gag to the next. The set pieces that deliver the gags, busy as they are, are much less inventive than they were in years past, and the way underlying themes get tossed out haphazardly without much follow-through suggests a case of writing by committee.
>In previous Toy Story installments, we cared because the toys had feelings and would be crushed if they weren’t played with. Here, that motive is abandoned: The suggestion is that toys can be perfectly happy, maybe even more self-actualized, living on their own. The kid, in this movie, doesn’t really need the toys, and the toys don’t really need the kid. Oh.
>The movie suggests that instead of fussing incessantly over our kids, we should let them slip off to college or Brooklyn while we retire and pack up for an active adult community in Boca, which seems to be the sort of future Bo Peep (Annie Potts) has in mind for Woody. If toys aren’t defined by their loving relationships with their kids, though, the chief premise of the whole series is undercut. It’s as if Dorothy Gale said, “Meh, come to think of it, Kansas sucks” and traded her ruby slippers for a condo off the Yellow Brick Road.
He provides necessary criticism that isn’t available anywhere else. He may be out of bounds on some points, but he’s never too far off base.
Toy story felt completed was my problem. This is like them reopening the story just to fuck everything.
That is an interesting point, if the characters relationships with their kids/owners isn't their main defining characteristic then you don't really have any identity as an actual toy. They might as well be an actual cowboy and sheep herder.
Hahaha yeah imagine writing about cartoons, who would ever do that?
she said she doesn't want to hear what white men think about it.. even though the characters in the book were white and just got blackdirtied for the movie. she's an idiot.
No, you're an idiot and you're going to be replaced.
> if Dorothy Gale said, “Meh, come to think of it, Kansas sucks” and traded her ruby slippers for a condo off the Yellow Brick Road.
Should I mention that's what happens? That her family's farm goes under and she brings them to live in oz where they live happily ever after? Because that's what happens.
Most people didn't read the books. Heck most never saw the second movie.
You actually believe that? I guarantee no one made death threats against some no name hack.
Ironically, his writing is meant to appeal to mongs like you.

It's almost like you MUST be a part of the Disney brand machine, or you don't know who you are anymore.
Armond "God I Wish I Was" White
woody's (and by extension Jessie/Bullseye) a relic by the time TS comes around, a good chunk of the main cast minus Potato Head are just generic toys as well, Buzz is really the only brand thing. Forky's literally made from garbage and is having an existential crisis or some shit.
Except that's not true, all of them are Disney branded toys in the real world.
Did people really don't know they than the wizard of Oz is more than one book?
*shrug* Weird. Why would a nigger want to appeal to me? :-/

>Heck most never saw the second movie.

Return to Oz isn't a sequel to the MGM film tho
They DIDFu nuffin’.
Yeah, it's really funny.
>People praising Armond White
He's a pure contrarian. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
He's the king of Yea Forums for a reason. A board that hates it when reviewers praise a film in a meta sense but will shlock up the same garbage if it helps perpetuate their bias/es.
>He is actually unironically comparing giving Toy Story 3 a negative review protesting the police gunning black people down by to kneeling at the national anthem.
I just can't handle this, how does he do it guys?
he's not wrong though
You keep proving Mr White. Any criticism of Pixar, like clockwork, the droids get triggered and start the name calling. Too bad not all the internet is your Reddit hugbox
Ilhan Omar did nothing wrong, stopped reading after that.
>no one made death threats against some no name hack.
It figures you’re a zoomer or underage. Until 2012 at least you could comment under each RT reviews. They disabled it after fanboys began attacking reviewers for The Dark Knight Rises.
Genuine question: does Armond White only do these contrarian reviews to poison the well of opposition?
The books don't matter, it's a film. Though no one remembers that her dog is going to get gassed at the beginning for seemingly no reason, and it isn't resolved when she comes back. Also, it's Kansas in 1939; everyone she ever knew as a kid was probably lungfucked by glass-like shards of dirt.
And yet only the first book is regarded as a beloved classic, not the rest of it where Dorothy's now a blonde girl.
no mistakes, he is right, a bit damage controlling and makes it a bit annoying to read, but what a fucking legend.

As someone who is neutral on that TS4 nerd fight,i can safely say this guy is whinny who have gone full "oh woe is me,i'm a critic alone against the philistine mass".Where' s the actual review, you dumb cunt ? That whole drivel is about how much a speshul snowflake with unique taste this guy is.It's a Yea Forums shitpost, not a review
Did he do it with facts and logic tho?
Disney went through the trouble of licensing out the Ruby Slippers from MGM. It's not a true sequel to the MGM film, but it is a loose one.
>nationalreview.com
What the fuck am I even reading?! How the hell is this even a review? It seems like some "High Class Intellectual" jacking his cock to his own intellect while trying to shove his political opinions down your throat. It's like he made the rant first, and then he decided to throw in parts of the movie to deliver his message to the world in the most incoherent way possible.
user, it's the National Review. They may have been somebody at some point, but right now its just the right-wing version of Buzzfeed.
If it would be Shin Godzilla then hell yeah i would go to watch it.
CHADmond White destroys PIXAR once and for all. SAD.
I haven't seen a capeshit film since Ant-Man. Paid to watch Godzilla in 3D IMAX though. It's time to start cramming people like you into lockers again, frankly. You need to be publicly shamed, humiliated and abused until you're too ashamed to feed the beast any more.
Cringe as fuck. He's not wrong, but did he have to make it so painful to read?
They made a homemade toy act like an asshole to tell kids that actual creativity is worse than factory-made placation. Which is a microcosm of Pixar's entire problem of creating safe formulaic shit that people have been brainwashed into thinking is revolutionary because of Pixar's recurring emotional manipulation tactics.
>DreamWorks, cousin to Pixar-Disney
So that's what we're calling directly antagonistic rival studios now?
For negative reviews. DC nerds went nuts
If it costs money to see, it's worth scrutinizing.

Based Armond White.
for bane posting
For all of its flaws the recent Godzilla movie actually did pretty okay job of living up to earlier movies in the franchise. Marvel movies are just quippy shiny bullshit.
He also liked The Iron Giant:
“The Iron Giant should have been immediately recognized as a near-perfect, classical expression of imagination, combining childlike wonder and adult sophistication.”
But Forky isn't an asshole. They don't shit on children's creativity because they hammer home how much Forky means to Bonnie despite being made out of trash. Did any of you watch the movie?
He didn't review KOTM, did he?
>portrayed as mentally stable and sane
Yep, that was defefinitely how I'd describe Buzz, "I'm a Space Ranger not a Toy look at me fly" Lightyear attitude in the first movie.
I'd watch Son of Godzilla over an Avengers film.

Didn't that movie have an anti-gun message though?
Literally Yea Forumscore to the fucking tee
Apparently, yes, He wirites for both The National Review which is a conservative platform and for OUT, one of the biggest and most important magazines of gay culture and lifestyle.
Betty is how Bo Peep was called in Latin American up until now.
What are his political leaning again?
He seems o be gay/bisexual but writes for a conservative magazine and yet it seems he is critic of both the Dems and the GOP.
This movie sucks and if you don't suck Diseny/PIXAR dick hard enough you will be lynched by mobs.
