It's a subtle critique of the infantilization that goes on in the west, where everyone expects to be cared for by a parental figure. You see this with the UBI, the constant requests for the governments to control the equality of outcome and to prevent people's feelings from being hurt, the constant search for immediate gratification instead of delayed gratification with a greater payoff in the future, etc...
Or it could be that those other characters ain't a cultural icon, so they can change while Maggie can't.
