I don´t think it was about that
1) The main trio already talks shit about each other constantly. Max and Nikki often make fun of Neil for being a nerd, so them making fun of each other isn´t new. Remember, the episode where Preston makes a play for Nikki had her laughing when Nerris made a more insulting impression of Max.
2) I think the point of the episode was to showcase that you can have friends other than your best friends and you´re not limited to a specific trio, because you´re your own person, and not a part of a package deal. Nikki isn´t gonna abandon Max and Neil, they will always be her best friends, but she now has other friends to hang around with whenever she wants something fresh.

Jordan mentioned on stream-rewatch they did just before this season started that 'it was a different time' when Reigny Day was written and none of the crew liked the episode. They seem to have just decided that Hitler jokes are evil and alt-right now, so Dolph is just a generic German kid

I remember watching the first episode because of it's threads and it being... kinda mediocre.
I like the happy go lucky camp counselor and some of the gags like that one dude being on the run from the FBI were good, but the animation was choppy as hell and the swear words felt REALLY felt out of place.
Does it get better or is the first episode the series standard?

aw, that sucks. Reigny day was a good episode.
I mean, I wouldn´t have a problem with it if they keep adding him like they did with the chocolate kingpin episode. I loved Dolph in that one, and it´s one of my favorites from season 3. But so much of his character really was the nazi jokes.
I blame RT stupid fanbase who prefers safe shit like RWBY and Nomad.

The first episode is kinda weak and was rewritten a bunch, it gets better as the season goes on and gets really good in season 2. They never really tone down the swearing but its usually not used just for 'lol kids swearing' shock humour

It gets way better. The first 3-4 episodes are kinda meh and are only saved by great character interactions, but from there it gets really good. Season 2 is easily the best season having three 10/10 episodes. But the S1 isn´t bad, it´s still enjoyable.

You guys know that Hitler jokes aren't automatically funny right? In the same way that Trump jokes aren't automatically funny. The best joke they got out of Dolph wasn't Hitler jokes, it was the camp's overreaction to his personality.

I see the appeal in branching out from his one-note shtick, which is lampshaded in the episode you're about to watch but I don't think they've come up with anything funny for him. They should take him down the Rolf-route and make him an excessively weird foreigner

No it's the same VA, in fact this episode and the Nurf one were written by him. His voice is slightly more high-pitched than normal though, it could be a hard voice to do

Again, that goes against the point of the episode. It would be shitty to say "my best friends are better than my other friends because X" and would destroy the entire message.
I understand where you come from but I know personally that I have talked shit about my best friend behind his back, and I'm sure he has talked shit about me behind my back, but that doesn´t mean we have to hate each other. I guess it´s all a matter on how each person sees friendships.
One sweet thing I found that maybe was unintentional is that Nikki didn´t say anything bad about Neil. I´ve always thought the two of them have the strongest bond in the show ever since the third episode of season 1.

True the main trio does talk a lot of shit about each other, but when they call Neil a nerd they aren't actually hurting his feelings at all, he goes along with it, they're just poking fun. This episode however had Nikki just being a genuine asshole to him without him even around, it was just talking shit behind his back. Max IS a dickhead, but I have a feeling if he heard Nikki saying all that and he overheard, our 10 year old protagonist might be a bit hurt.

Man, this episode feels like there was a lack of clear direction, like they just brainstormed a bunch of ideas and wrote the episode over said ideas. It's like 5 different episodes put together with Flex Tape. Not a bad episode per se, yet still a weird one. Also, somehow Jermy was the funniest one in this particular episode.

Not a whole lot. There wasn't an actual live commentary, it was just a stream of various episodes with the crew commenting in the chat. Most of the crew there were animators so there was a lot of gushing about the animation and laughing at how bad they think they used to be

Parents' Day and The Candy Kingpin still had some Hitler jokes with his paintings. It even portrayed Max as Eva Braun.

I've really enjoyed Jermy in every single one of his appearances except his premiere. He fits in perfectly with the Wood Scouts dynamic

yeah i guess this is just a difference in what we consider 'friendship.' like im not saying that the main trio should only be friends with each other; the message of the episode is fine. i agree with it. but they are still the MAIN trio, and this episode does nothing to show why that is. everything about the relationship between nikki, nerris, and dolph is explicitly shown to be BETTER in every way. like, im just saying that there should have been a scene showing why nikki chooses to hang out with max and neil over nerris and dolph most of the time. if she hadn't been an asshole about max this wouldn't have been a problem either, because then it would've just been a self-contained adventure(s) showing that nikki can have more friends than the max and neil. none of these questions would've even come up

From a narrative perspective , it'd be a nice circle. In their first episode we find out they casted out Nikki for not being "normal" only for them to each end up not being themselves. But do really need it to be a facial deformity. Reminder that Erin eyes have always been like that, and her episode was about acceptance.

I'd be happy if this was the low point of the season and every episode after is better.

This is my problem. The jokes just didn't land well and there weren't all that many of them. I think they lampshaded the theme a bit too much with all the on the nose talk about their dynamic. One talk about it would have been enough but they had at least three of them.

I'm fine with them wanting to develop Dolph more but nothing they did with him was funny. Nerris feels like she's got tons of room for development but besides liking baking she didn't really get much.

Also if I was friends with someone like Max I'd need to vent on occasion too. You can need to talk shit every once in a while and still genuinely like the person and want to be friends with them. I don't see what the big deal is there.

I didn't hate the episode a few jokes were pretty good. Sasquatch at the end, the guy getting blown up, whatshisname being the only one who nods when asked if they ever thought about hanging out with other people, and the conversation with the burglar were all pretty good.

Show needs more David, he's been gone for a while.

This season has felt really weak, but I have been enjoying it purely out of the character interactions we´ve been having. Maybe it´s a testament to how good this show has become that all you need is to see the characters hanging out for it to be enjoyable.
However, this season should be better. Just because they have good characters it doesn´t mean they can just write whatever and get away with it.

This is still the episode I’m looking forward the most this season. Specially if it’s the same one that has the Max/Sasha/Pikeman duel

I felt the same for most of season 3, and it's disappointing that this is already looking to be a repeat. The characters are getting more developed but the jokes are worse and less frequent

I think they should do drama and have comedy as a backdrop.

I would say action, but I think the show make a point to skip over action scenes as a joke that it's probably above their budget.

I'm gonna have to disagree there. While it wasn´t better than S2, it did still have some solid episodes. It´s too early to compare, but the 4 first episodes of S3 are to me, way better than the ones we´ve seen of S4 so far.
I hope S4 picks itself back up with next months episodes.

This epsiode confirmed that the established groups hang around with each other all the time, constantly; and some mix it up with others once a week.

Remember that Nikki looks up to both Ered and Harrison, and the point of her new friends is that they´re campers she can talk about whatever and be relaxed. You aren´t really relaxed when you talk to someone you admire.

That's a good point, it's just weird to me that she was apparently so close two characters she's had next to no interactions with. Though I guess that's the point of the joke

Then Nerris with the Ered episode talking about finding her own party. Nikki saying she's not sure what her role in the party is but happy to be in it, and Dolph as krampus (drawfags plz)
