Is 2019 shaping up to be one the WORST years in animated movies?

Could we enter a 3D animation depression on par with the 2D animation fails of the 90s?
Only if you exclude anything outside the US.
Looks like mostly sequels and quirky animals
Abominable? How many more big foot yeti type family friendly films do we need?
You keep posting this but I've yet to see any indication that any of these movies are actually GOOD
Each of those Jap ones' pictures are shit you see in any anime, am I supposed to be impressed by a screenshot of an anime girl or a building?
I"m actually interested in White Snake since I've SEEN a trailer for it, but who knows if it won't turn out to be garbage
Animal Crackers is actually gonna be coming out?
>Literally the only 2d film is TTGTTM.
>4 stop-motion films.
>10 sequels.
Where did it all go wrong, bros?
>Where did it all go wrong, bros?
The death of animation in the US is something that one could write an entire thesis paper on
No!
Yes!
They look good by the simple virtue of not being standard generic American funny animal kiddie shit. Those movies actually look like they have a story to tell. I would literally watch any film from that image than whatever the fuck soulless garbage is in the OP.
We get it you hate western animation we have the same thread every week
>Toy $tory 4 is on your list
Dropped
This one is on the right mindset. Part of the reason Yea Forums is shit is because it still centers on the same redundant shit
Fucking American scum
What in the name of the fuck with all those Yeti/Big Foot movies?
Is there something that has made Big Foot appealing to the modern demo recently?...
Is it 'cause the furry feet?...
What has western animation produced in like the last 30 years except immense disappointment and mediocrity?
You don't have the settle for what is given to you dude, you can expect more. You should demand more from the west in terms of animation. And when I say "west", I mean the US.
You're letting your unfounded hatred of a country get in the way of fairly evaluating things
He's right, though. American animation is terrible and Yea Forums is shit for solely focusing on it.
>All of them are anime or anime lite
>not generic standard shit
l m a o
like I said, buzz me if any of the movies are actually GOOD
It's shaping up to be the worst year for movies in general
>TTGO
>91%
What the fuck? Was it actually good?
It's a clever deconstruction to modern capeshit tropes. Also the movie is so self awared about it is complete shit, it becomes actually good.
>other movies to look forward to this year
Glad to see Missing Link did alright review wise. Did anyone see it and enjoy it? I really disliked Kubo because the story felt like a weird video game pace.
Mentioned this in another thread but
>Lego movie 2
under performs
>Wonder Park
under performs
>Missing Link
bombs hard
>Uglydolls
bombs
>The Secret Life of Pets
under performs
>Toy Story 4
bombs in China
So far this year the only major box office success in animation has been The Hidden World.
Seems that the US is having a bad year for animation in general this year.
Good. I hope every project in the next however many years completely bombs in order to fundamentally dismantle the current industry trends and force companies to think for themselves and make something that isn't boring, soulless, derivative, kiddie-shit garbage for once.
the weird thing about the ttg staff is that there ok at doing there job when the aren't being crunched by time and a crap budget, they had something like 2 years to work on the script and 10 mil to mess around with, they ended up making over triple there production budget. pretty sure half the people who regularly bitch about ttg wouldn't care in the slightest if it wasn't connected to teen titans.
RT guesstimates:
toy story: 95%+
angry birds 2: 35-40%
animal crackers: 40%
playmobil: 0-10%
abominable: 60-65%
addams: 75%
arctic justice: 30%
frozen ii: 85-90%
shaun: 80-85%
spies: 45-50%
I love Laika but the eponymous character was just so goddamn ugly I couldn't bring myself to watch. What I saw discussed on indicated Yea Forums that it was pretty overwhelmingly deemed mediocre too though
I understand your issues with Kubo too, though I struggle to articulate just what about the story bothers me. Still liked it pretty well myself
Httyd3 is also considered an underperformance since it mad 100 million less than Httyd2
>Arctic Justice
>same company that did Norm of the North and Swan Princess
greeeaaat
>>Lego movie 2
>under performs
You mean bombed
>>Toy Story 4
>bombs in China
Really, how badly ?
This GKIDS movie is in US theaters right now. Check it out.
Just as bomb as other Pixar’s movies except Coco in China.
>have daddy Nike’s money at your disposal
>have the chance to make a truly groundbreaking animated film
>end up making a movie for normies that flops anyway
REALLY, LAIKA?
>this year is so pathetic that TS4 is getting critical praise just for not being complete shit
inb4 Frozen II becomes the film juggernaut of 2019 just 'cause it's Frozen, and as a movie per se it's just a mediocre follow up to the first one (and the first one was already an average-to-good film with an easy to read plot no one who knows about animation would praise really much).
i at least trust dreamworks to ride on that HTTYD 3 money and abominable will get a solid 7.5-8.5 because Its Pretty
Frozen 2 is frozen 2 I can't see it dipping into the 80's this is disneys animated child.
everything else looks like direct to dvd schlock (i do have some hopes for addams family because nostalgiafag)
