Does anyone else hate his origin. It just reads like a 10 year old's wish fulfillment.
>Just follow a guy into a train station and you will be granted the ability to turn into and adult with the power of Greek Gods
People today complain that SuperMan is overpowered, but originally he only had super strength and the ability to jump high. He later got more powers because Captain Marvel was outselling him. I'm not sure why I think this way since I also enjoy shonen where they have teenagers take down 30-something year olds who have had more experience in combat.

you fucking suck OP
It IS 10 year old wish fulfillment. That's part of its charm and general appeal.
Trash opinion and hypocrite
Based
You don't see shonen protags literally turning into adults. They also train to improve their powers, even if they were given or born with them.
Ah, so you some Yea Forums fag. Capeshit doesn't work like that. Power levels aren't important there. Fuck off
Training is for nerds
>like a 10 year old's wish fulfillment
Well, yes. That's...that's the deal.
I've seen a lot of dumb posts but this is up there.
Forget it user, some people desperately need everything to be a deconstruction.
It's exactly 10-year-old wish fulfillment. They were the audience for the comic at the time and it worked. If it helps, don't think try to compare it to modern shounen. Its influences more likely come from certain fairy tales where good people in bad situations get happy endings for being pure of heart.
>reads post
>sees banner
Huh... interesting
> reads like a 10 year old's wish fulfillment.
I wonder why?
>It just reads like a 10 year old's wish fulfillment
... yes? What exactly is wrong with that.
It's still bad writing. You guys tell people to read the comics, so I assume that they should have good writing. I just expected better. SuperMan's origin isn't even that dumb and he's the original superhero and was nowhere near OP.
>it's still bad writing because I say so
>It's still bad writing.
How so?
Dude, this is from the fucking 40s, entirely marketed to kids. What did you fucking expect?
Supes actually gained the ability to fly because the cartoons find it easier to animate.
He won't give a good answer.
>you don't see shonenshit characters turning into adults suddenly
Who is Gon Freecs?
Just because they are kids, doesn't mean they can't comprehend better writing.
How not. Can you think of any other story of a kid who is granted the ability of an adult demigod if he shouts an acronym, only to fight low level criminals, that is considered good writing. This is the original Captain Marvel we are talking about.
>SuperMan
The writer was, as Beck said, a student of the Classics, not Comics, as they were brand new.
But be proud, user.
Your bait worked!
Togashi is the king of asspulls, so he doesn't apply. Remember Demon Yusuke out of nowhere?
It can be improved upon...
Dude, you want good writing, go to the later stuff. This stuff is like super basic shit, literally the first fucking one
The writing isn't bad. In fact, Captain Marvel is the most readable and charming of the golden gate capes barring early Superman. You're just not reading it the right way. It's very surrealist and dreamlike, way closer to fairy tales or epic literature than typical sci-fi-ish or fantasy capes.
It's already a given that the Marvel Family will save the day, it's not about tension, it's about the childlike ingenuity with which the problems are dealt with. The god tier art also helps.
>Hate his origin?
Why hate anything OP? If you don't like something you don't have to watch it.
>It just reads like a 10 year old's wish fulfillment.
Gee OP maybe that's THE FUCKING POINT
It's literally a kid that transforms into a perfect adult, how retarded can you be?
Somebody recommended you a comic written for kids. You read it, and now you're complaining that it's written for kids. You are a moron.
Welp, proven correct that OP can't give a good answer.
It's supposed to be a modern fairy tale about a boy that can do anything using his powers in interesting ways to solve impossible problems and getting gagged when he has to revert to Billy to do things the Captain can't, usually undercover work against the bad guys.
It's not about fake tension where the super karateman has to pump iron to fight the opponent only he stands a chance against and people pretend that's good writing and relatable.
This.
>Only to fight low level criminals
HE FIGHTS SIVANA IN THE FIRST ISSUE
HOLY FUCK Yea Forums REALLY DOESN'T READ COMICS
Jesus user you are a goddamn failure.
You two are goddamn failures as well. Fuck off.
Those low level criminals are still capable of hurting people. If you think being strong puts a hero above acknowledging such things it's no wonder people like Goku so much.
There's a difference between being a hero and being a physically powerful protagonist.
Oh yes, all those low level criminals.
Why the FUCK do weebs think Captain Marvel and Superman only ever fought bank robbers?
Second issue. And you don't need god powers to fight a scientist.
>World's wickedest scientist
>"Just a scientist"
Name a shonen character and Sivana solos them.
I will now read your comic.
I don't know man. For me the best part about Captain Marvel and Superman was that their adventure could be about anything.
Saying they shouldn't deal with bank robbers is like saying Hercules shouldn't be cleaning up Horse-shit.
Because normies don't think Superman has any villains other than Luthor and Zod, or that Captain Marvel has any besides Black Adam.
Dark Schneider from Bastard!!
'Yep. That one's going in my ''Yea Forums doesn't read comics'' compilation.
How do we know those weren't Yea Forums tourists or Yea Forums tourists?
There's a theory that Billy never became Shazam, it's just something he made up to tell on the radio
And this is supported by some CC Beck statements, that he always envisioned the end of Captain Marvel to be a reveal that it was just Billy making shit up around real events
This.
Dude started in Billy's first case as a guy with a device that destroyed all radio and kept advancing from there. He had a more impressive start than Ultra or Lex.
That's actually kind of charming.
I'd love for a crossover between Thunderworld and an Earth where Captain Marvel is something Billy tells on the radio/youtube.
Op definitely comes from Yea Forums
That's the first sign somebody is from Yea Forums. Japanimation fanboys can't parse Supes' name right for shit.
Sounds Kino
It was from a simpler time when an origin story didn't have to be complicated.
DC had a character in the golden age called Genius Jones whose origin was that he got stranded on an island with a bunch of books and read them all and became a genius.
And stories from that time tended to be a lot more creative than what we have now.
Kek
It's true. I'm reading silver age LOSH and Doom Patrol now, not golden age but the stories are super imaginative. There aren't any comics today like that.
He kinda does. He's fought Sivana as Billy before, and Sivana kicks his ass.
>Implying the Yea Forums faggot that slipped his containment board knows the first thing about Captain Marvel.
I saw a panel where Sivana has the obvious idea of breaking into Billy's house and killing him in his sleep, how does that go?
It is kinda funny how writers back then used to strive to come up with weird, surreal plots or detective stories the hero would have to think their way out of, but the majority of today's ''sophisticated'' comics writers don't think up much more than grudge matches, usually dragged out for whole arcs.
It, at least, proved useful elsewhere.
>People complain Spider-Man is overpowered
He’s literally the weakest “spider”
Fine OP, you don't have to like it. If you want something that deconstruct this exact premise I suggest you miracle man. Is like Captain Marvel but addresses your complains.
Feelsbadman
You do when it's this fucker
How is Billy on the Radio if the event that got him on the radio (stopping Sivana) a fabrication?
>muh alien x
>i'm the most important person in the multiverse
>Does anyone else hate his origin. It just reads like a 10 year old's wish fulfillment.
Thats literally the point. Billy was making up shit for the radio show.
As long as those kids are still sobbing over Hal curbstomping their idol, I'm happy.
I think Yea Forums would understand the appeal of a character like Captain Marvel, though. I mean, if they can suspend their disbelief for any given Magical Girl story, Cap isn't that much of a stretch.
Oh yes we can HO HO HA HA HE HE
OP would be the exact same type of retard that hates anything other than Shounen Jump titles.
Sivana works fast. Especially in this era of not kissing until the third date.
>Old man in underground makes little boy an adult
Zack Snyder's version of his origin would be
metaphor to rape.
those days long sobfests are hilarious
This is really cool though.
So when does Alan Scott kill Reinhard from Dis Irae to cement green lanterns as vs battle sacred cow killers?
>It just reads like a 10 year old's wish fulfillment.
>Shazam
Spiderman is a great character and you know it!
Never forget the hyphen!
Its the Silver Age, its not supposed to make sense
>calling defining a Golden Age character Silver Age
What did the retard mean by this?
The Silver Age was full of goofy plots and powers, Captain Marvel (yes, i'm still calling him by his real name) fits that perfectly
Man. Just reading this makes me think how pleasant life must've been in the USA back when this was published, that they actually found this tripe engaging.
Does it hurt having such bad taste?
I assure you that if you were a 10 year old boy who followed strange men you'd get to experience quite a few Greek things, and arguably would become an adult. With HIV.
You can't just go around redefining the Silver Age as starting in 1939, user.
