Yea, first season was pretty solid, and the second had some good moments, but the whole McGuffin chase really bogged it down, and then the third season was just neutered from what they had wanted to do. Doesn't help that this was meant to sync up with the Cybertron games as part of a massive universe.

It did have some promise at first, like letting Bumblebee take the lead for once, but then they pretty mulch Buu saga'd Optimus back into being alive again, and things like the Fallen were dealt with far too swiftly instead of being massive threats. Also sucks that Megatron never got to come back and maybe knock some sense into a few of the Cons who might have been willing to listen to their ex-leader.

For one, TF: Prime’s McGuffin hunt lasted a season and the Autobots basically dumped them in a bunker without considering using them against the Decepticons. Armada, on the other hand, uses them every almost single episode, where the fate of who gets one more Minicon can be based on how many Minicons the other side has.
Yeah, the characters are hit or miss, but at least they’re not annoying or horrifically boring like in Prime.

Yea, but the minicons rarely had any character, and the few that did were just beep-booping instead of having actual voices. And while it's true that most of the weapons from the Prime treasure hunt didn't get used until the finales of the second and third seasons, it was at least somewhat justified that some were either too powerful to be used recklessly, too dangerous in general, or didn't have a practical use in battle. And at least they tried to keep several of them varied with no two artifacts being exactly the same whereas most of the minicons were just powerups that granted a cannon attack or something similar for many characters.
As for the characters themselves, I'd say the cast was better overall. Sure, Miko was annoying at first, but she made great strides in the second season in terms of being helpful to the Autobots after Bulkhead's near death experience, and of course Jack was pretty smart about how he went about throwing himself into situations instead of just relying on his bot partner to always save him, while Raf of course was extremely helpful in much of Ratchet's duties at the base. With that said, the kids do kind of end up doing very little for the final season aside from aiding in the final battle. As for the bots themselves, it was pretty refreshing seeing a Starscream who could be quite formidable when he was backed into a corner, but also able to get over his betrayal fetish for once and put his faith entirely behind Megatron for once.

I will admit that Jeffrey Combs was a fucking excellent old Ratchet, but Prime Ratchet is just Animated Ratchet, but done worse.
Everytime Cullen spoke I could hear the sheer boredom he had reading these lines, sure this Prime isn't a nutjob like the movie version, but that version had alteast a personality, Prime Prime is just a stoic audio box waiting to say it's next canned inspirational line.
Which sucks, because Cullen's acting is fine with what he gets, but he has no room to act.

Cullen hardly sounded bored. And I'd hardly call Prime-Ratchet worse, just different. Animated was a bitter old man, whereas Prime was more of a disillusioned scientist constantly having to deal with ever mounting pressures as the only one with medical expertise and barely any combat skills that were worthwhile in the field.

Cullen got to be a quipping sardonic adventurer, to a sullen and weary leader, to a stoic and ready warrior, a big friendly metal dad, or a bemused and inquisitive explorer. this isn't consistent, but its what ended up making g1 Optimus so endearing.
