The only thing I remember about this was that the reporting was some kind of weird attempt to smear the other side.

Like it was a bunch of dumb sjw types that started drama and told the artist that saying bad things about Islam was problematic. But then the people who actually tried reporting the artist to the Religious Police to get him killed were right-wingers who both wanted less gays in the world and who wanted to false-flag it as something people would blame on the left.

If it's true that none of this shit was ever real in the first place and the artist was never in danger that's both shitty on his part but also kind of a relief that this was all nothing but empty drama.
