This seems retarded because it is so incredibly unnecessary. The fantastic four were altered by their contact with space bullshit during a test flight, origin story complete.
Spider-Man chosen by the magical spider-totem to receive spider-powers that are apparently completely unrelated to radiation. Destiny and shit.
Tony Stark being adopted. Everything about that fills me with rage and disgust.
Kinda like how the Flash ended up being the lightning bolt that struck his lab

The Yellow Space Bug.
somehow i missed this. i thought i watched all of the episodes of legends of awesomeness. apparently not.
Making Catwoman a hooker.
Yeah.
Was as unnecessary as retconning the reason Black Cat became a costumed cat burglar is because her boyfriend raped her in college then got hit by a car.
Straczynski masterpiece.
Does this count as a retcon?
>Tony’s parents were some random SHIELD agent and Hydra goon the whole time who coincidentally abandoned him in the same Romanian nursery Howard and Maria Stark adopted a baby from because their ‘real’ son was some kind of genetically engineered alien with an anime disease and who is totally smarter than Tony
I really, truly wonder how some of these writers get jobs.
Is it some kind of egotism that causes comicbook writers to make up these retcons, thinking they'll wow everyone with the incredible spin they put on established characters.
Or do they not give a shit and are just trying to crank out some random gimmick.
Context? he's messing with him?
The former. Gotta leave your mark on something.
IIRC he fucked the timeline by accidentally stopping Sinestro going full yellow, so had so set him back on the path
Frank Castle becoming the Punisher was the keikaku of a fallen Archangel
Wolverine and all other mutants like him (Sabretooth, Wild Child, etc.) were descended from Lupine Mutants.
Iron Fist and Misty Knight's fake chi baby.
That time it was implied that the U.S. government put Captain America on ice (and killed Bucky) in order to stop him from preventing them from launching the nukes.
Aunt May didn't die, it was just a terminally ill, surgically-altered actress.
>Aunt May didn't die, it was just a terminally ill, surgically-altered actress.
Jean Grey didn't die it was just a clone and she was secretly in Long Island all along
>Aunt May didn't die, it was just a terminally ill, surgically-altered actress.
It that worse than Aunt May being Peter's real mother?
Both. Egotism, wanting to be remembered, if not for great writing if they are incapable, then at least for pissing people off.
Characters being retconned from death so often sucks, neverending comicbook universes are nothing but huge pulsing tumors.
How could Cap stop them dropping the bombs on Japan? Wasn't he fighting in Europe?
You mean Quesada
All-Star Squadron taking place on World II.
Swamp Thing turning out to be a plant who thought he was a human and not a human turned plant.
These two acts solidified what retcons (retroactive continuity was even coined retcon for Swamp Thing) was in comics.
Xorn was Magneto was Xorn all along
But the swampy relevation was actually based
I actually like the idea of that one
Fuck everything to do with this clusterfuck
Methinks the writer just finished Xenoblade and wanted a way to fit Alvis' parting words in there somewhere.

Also way to fuck Ben over, Reed.
truth
Don't forget the interdimensional aristocrat vampire family that travel through the Web of Life to feed on Spider-Totems!
I can't believe they wasted not one but TWO fucking multiverse Spider-Men events on these dumb chucklefucks.
Maybe he was gonna toss his shield at the nukes, thus deflecting them.
Everything about those notVampires has been a cancer on Spider-Man and his stories.

Dan does tons of retcons and gets tons of shit wrong in this arc but the worst was trying to say alpha primitives were humans. later writers fixed that but then for god knows what reason Priest tried to bring it back in his mini.

Now time for a visual retelling!
Donny Cates' tenure at Marvel could be prefaced as a series of retarded retcons, but among them, Knull's bullshit takes the cake.
The Celestials are dumb and shouldn't exist.
And that's only the part where he supposedly creates Knowhere, since in this same issue he's responsible for All-Black The Necrosword and the whole symbiote race.
Shut your whore mouth.
Yeah every retcon and reveal Marvel has made about the symbiote species in recent history has been both terrible and unnecessary.
Not only that but the handling of Morrison's X-Men run is the reason he left Marvel and never went back.
I do like the way that Stark is adopted plays into his self made man ethic (and don’t even hate the Arno reveal that ties into it), but damn Bendis addition really makes the whole thing a wet fart.
Also there is a goblin force that rivals the Phoenix force.
And the Venom Symbiote is one of the first lifeforms in existence that bonded to primordial gods.
That only worked because the story was a "series finale" to Barry's adventures.
>goblin force
Oh my fucking god tell me it's cheezey as fuck
>This was calling the male narrative out. My point was to explore and comment on how female characters, their kind of emotional lives aren’t represented… What if, in fact, she went willingly? What if she just cheated on Hawkeye? What if this ridiculous story, of this grown woman being kidnapped and drugged and held for months, is just a story that a jilted lover tells himself?
>Also there is a goblin force that rivals the Phoenix force.
it's.......beautiful
Remember when Nora was just some random woman frozen from the 1960s Victor obsessed over and never actually met?
>his self made man ethic
That ethic is kind of lost when it was his family money, blood or not that put him where he is now.
How did they retcon that?
I think Perpetua is worse than Knull.
>Mockinbird isn't a rape victim! She's just a turbo thot doubled with a fucking idiot!
Wow, sure salvaged that character from the Patriarchy!
I was the first real major retcon of a death. but things did not really go off the rails until the early 00's when any writer just brought back absolutely any dead hero or villain they wanted. Doc Oc, Norman, Jackal, Vermin, Sinestro, Zoom, any classic silver age era character that died was eventually brought back.
In the late 90s and early 00's the rule of comics was
>Only Bucky stays dead
But Marvel kind of fucked that one up too.
Also DC lost their goddamn minds inventing a new robin and Batgirl every 3-4 years. Marvel could not stop creating new goblins and ghost riders.
Yes, it was awful. But in its defense I think that is the only right way to write a crazy villain. Somebody who is just delusional and cant be talked down.
It was funny too since it was a retcon made ~30 years later to an arc that like 5 people actually remembered.
Everything about Perpetua comes at the expense of retconning the hierarchy of the universe, the monitor and anti-monitor, the 5th dimension imps, and the characterizations of half the members of Lex's legion.
That's a lot to lose for some all new OP super dooper special powerful universe ending villain that will be defeated with a Superman punch or the power of friendship in a single splash page.
Motherfucker we have a buttload of crazy villains already in the goddamn bat rogues gallery already!
To an extent, yes. But the fact remains that he is still more of a self made man after the retcon than before.
that civil war one where parker puts his mask back on and everyone is just like "woah WHO is spiderman?" I know im over simplifying back i cant be bothered to remember it clearer
Johns had to bring him back and clear his slate somehow
I want to {spoiler]be in a loving relationhip with[/spoiler] that Skrull
But he was the tragic villain. Batman has plenty of crazy villains, weirdos, and perverts. Freeze was the smart one that was not interested in ruling the mob, robbing banks, or being some master criminal.
>I think Perpetua is worse than Knull.
>Everything about Perpetua comes at the expense of retconning the hierarchy of the universe, the monitor and anti-monitor, the 5th dimension imps, and the characterizations of half the members of Lex's legion.
I'm sorry, who is this? Sounds like something from DC, but holy shit I've never understood their cosmology anyway.
time travel is canon to star wars now?
So's the Sith afterlife, with the Beyond.
I think they are fine but should be limited to Eternals and deviants. Having them shit out planets and make life every other place, and be agents of Eternity, with no rhyme or reason was a bad move.
>Jeaaaaan!
Never gets old.
This, I liked them better as really evolved aliens that experiment on lifeforms in the universe. I was not a fan of them being an actual part of the abstract hierarchy.
>implying Hal ever left
The Spectre would like a word with you.
Right, so you stopped liking them at what, the moment the Eternals as a whole were retconned as part of the Marvel Universe in the 80's? Ominously arriving to planets and being powerful enough to deem them worthy of salvation while being mysterious as fuck was one thing, but making a part of the cosmic pantheon as a result of this was a mile too far? Come the fuck on.
The DC mindwipes.
the "twist" that magneto wasn't actually wanda and pietro's father. I don't think this was undone yet because i'm pretty sure everyone rightfully forgot about/ignored it when it happened.
>I don't think this was undone yet
It hasn't, and if I were you I wouldn't expect it to.
Every Time Adventure Time makes a joke and then makes it serious Canon
Not the same user, but at some point we crossed a line from the Celestials being enigmatic beings that experiment on life and judge if worlds are worthy to survive, to the Celestials creating the universe. This feels like a comparatively recent development, yet it's become accepted enough that people are angry about how the Knull story affects it..
>Adopt a kid as a present like a fucking puppy
So what she said she didnt want it? Was he gonna send Stark back?
I'm the one who posted that and I am not against them "creating" the universe*. Obviously, yes, stuff like Knull and what happened with Aaron's Avengers is egregious and ridiculous enough to cause distaste, but thankfully they aren't mistreated in every story, and certain things (not many) can be ignored.
For instance, that whole Knull shitshow? I'm hoping in a year or two we can forget about it because it went out with a poof. I bet it won't be a big deal anyway since Cates seems to prefer short arcs where he goes batshit crazy with stuff he doesn't fully understand himself, then moves onto the next big thing. As long as it's short arcs and not longer ongoings, we'll be good. Hopefully he won't do the GOTG for much longer.
*= technically I wouldn't say they created the universe, to me they're the proteins taking instructions created by the chromosomes of the universe (the fundamental Abstracts) and build upon the fabric of the universe, both as sentient beings and beings who are only carrying out pre-established roles in the universal constants.
>both as sentient beings and automatons*
Self-fix'd
That doesn't count, it was from an alternate universe Earth.
>We know. Why are you telling us this?
Meh, it's only a matter of time.
"Magneto's children" makes for a better background than "got their powers from a literal who villain". Sooner or later some writer will get nostalgic for it and make Magneto their dad again.
>"got their powers from a literal who villain"
The High Evolutionary is not a "literal who" villain. And if the rumors are true, he'll become more famous in the coming years, so absolutely, they won't change that.
Everything on this page is shit.
The rule was “The only people who stay dead in comics are Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben“.
You are shit.
There were a good few months between the Allies took Berlin and the bombdrop. Cap and the rest of the Invaders could've used that time to secure the Pacific theater without the need to use nukes is my guess.
The whole relationship between Venom and Eddie
>Sup guise, Eddie here, love Venom
>Actually i dont
>Actually i do
>Nah i dont, hate Venom
>Fuck venom, literally the worst, fucking cancer
>Love Venom actually
>Fuck Venom, and fuck symbiote as a whole
>Love symbiote
>Actually you know what, i love Venom now
>Love Venom so much, gonna raise a child with it
>ARGH VENOM MANIPULATED ME AGAIN, FUCK, HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT
So the Invaders would have needed to murder a bunch of Japanese civilians told to fight to the death? Or deal with all the corpses of the ones ordered to kill themselves instead of giving the invaders the satisfaction?
How about reading my post again, getting off your high horse, and then getting back to the Celestials be retconned into the children of the precursor of Eternity in 2006.
Actually, I prefer the high evolutionary angle because mutants are boring and trite.
This, absolutely. Wanda and Pietro win nothing by being tied to the mutants.
>and then getting back to the Celestials be retconned into the children of the precursor of Eternity in 2006.
No idea what you're talking about here.
>Never appeared in any tv series
>Never appeared in any movie
>Has not been relevant since the 80s
>Barely even a villain in his glory days
He is as literal who as someone can get
>>Never appeared in any movie
Yet. Again, he's rumored to be Rocket's creator in GOTG3.
>I know im over simplifying
Sounds pretty spot on to me.
This is one of the few theories that I buy hook, line, and sinker.
Fucking Zero Hour, one of the few times that the "villain" won.
I looked this guy up. He was the boring guy from the X-Men cartoon and his entire backstory and comic runs seem really dumb and silver age. Why are you sucking his dick so hard?
Newest character from Scott Snyder's Justice League run, a god-lady that's basically the personification of Doom that was trapped in the Source Wall.
Luthor's main plot leading into Year of the Villain was basically setting up her return, culminating in him commiting sudoku and resurrecting as a half-martian or something.
>I looked this guy up
>X-men cartoon
Because the High Evolutionary isn't tied extensively to the X-men and their mutant stories.
Sorry, boomer
>Why are you sucking his dick so hard?
He was great in Annihilation Conquest, for one thing. And he's not at all tied to the X-Men anyway like said.
What's wrong with the Wolverine one, it makes sense. Also, it's not even canon anymore. They said that Romulus was lying
The High Evolutionary was involved in tons of decent stories and it's a fucking crime he has been removed from history almost due to Magneto wanking and other stupid shit.
High-Evolutionary appeared in the 90s X-Men cartoon, first a short appearewnce in a episode about the Savage Land and oddly a second appeareance where Magneto goes to Wundagore mountains to discover he had twins with Magda and the High-Evolutionary was interested in them for some reason, he also was the villain of the Spider-Man Unlimited cartoon but looked very different from the comics.
Quicksilver has a lot of stories about being Magneto's son, and has been directionless since Axis, but because of House of M, and a lot of X-Men fandom hating her since then, it's understandable that some Wanda's fans have accepted the retcon as a good thing for her, and don't want her to be a mutant or be tied to Magneto. X-fags loudly demanding her Disney+ show be about Magneto and mutants is making this divide worse.
No one writer is likely to have the power to change this again in the comics, it would need to be a decision made at an editorial level.
pretty reflective of real life emptionally abusive and manipulative relationships
Man, I fucking hated. After I found out that Xorn wasn't Magneto I was so fucking pissed. It was a good end for him but Marvel pussied out. It didn't even make sense, how tf does Xorn look and sound exactly like Magneto for no fucking reason
>Also, it's not even canon anymore. They said that Romulus was lying
Claiming he was lying doesn't explain away the fossils dug up in Wakanda that proved he wasn't lying.
Not to say Terrigen was a bad retcon but I liked Kirby's initial idea that all Inhuman powers were specially designed. It also plays into Black Bolt's parents experimenting on him. And genetic super science is one of the often neglected parts of the Inhumans.
Glad I stopped paying attention to comics like 15 year ago, just reading old TPBs now.
Remember when Nora was resurrected in a Lazarus pit, and inexplicably became a supervillain, all while being introduced in the worst run of Batgirl while Cass still held the mantle?
A lot of these so-called fans also want House of M for some reason in the MCU, not realizing how detrimental to Wanda's character that would be, and glossing over the fact that she already gets very little screentime as it is, and they want to put her in a story where she basically kills all mutants? Eh.
The Monitor, Anti-Monitor and the guy who made Barbatos’ mom. There’s a whole order of them now by the way, they’re responsible creating multiverses everywhere. Original creator of the DC multiverse, under the supervision of the Source who is apparently in charge of passing judgement on the ones BEYOND it to make sure they are sufficiently justice. Pioneer of supervillany who wants to raise an army of human-Martian hybrids to massacre her kin (and presumably the Source too). Did I mention humans have existed since the first DC cosmos ever was made now and have the innate racial trait of wielding the seven dark energies she built the multiverse with? It’s amazing how simply explaining one character can unearth like 5 retcons that sound like they were written by a 10 year old.
Sorry, you misunderstand me, I do hate how they made him a crazy person. But as crazy person go, his characterization felt more genuinely mentally ill that most canon crazy Batman villains.
If he was a original character I would think it was cool that they made him actually crazy instead of using the metal illnesses to justify a gimmick. As it is he is another reason why the New 52 sucked.
Multiverses are a bad idea
>The guys with fucking lazer tanks and super power lose to the guys whose only weapon is some poorly forged iron on a stick
Hey about that, since one comic established the Phoenix Force is an opposite energy to Wanda’s magic and Wanda’s magic was retconned to be the power of women does this mean women are intrinsically opposed to mutants in Marvel?
Terrigen does sort of make it random, but they still can course-correct and use it to design powers onto subjects.
Well the problem here is that I'm not well versed in DC cosmology so all this stuff escapes me, but It does sound like the delicate balance of an already loosely defined universe is shaken by a new OC. And I fucking hate when that happens.
Isn’t established that being resurrected by the Lazarus pit causes temporary insanity or something like it? I actually liked Cass final run as Batgirl by Gabrych, her final confrontation with Lady Shiva an dleaving her hanging above the Lazarus pit.
Multiverses are only bad when they overlap.
COIE can be traced back to someone wanting Superman on the JSA again.
so fucking stupid. i wish the wall was a shield created to keep Eldritch Abomination out
>Imagine being an X-Men fan
>Imagine not caring about the rest of Marvel at all
>Imagine resenting any time other heroes appear in an X-Men book
>Imagine characters from other areas of Marvel appearing in an X-Men story and not even being curious about them or their history
>Imagine believing the X-Men story they were in was the only time they were relevant, probably the only time they appeared
Can't understand this mentality at all, but there are a lot of them, it doesn't seem to happen with any other Marvel readers.
You mean LAZARA™?
I like to call them Bizzaro Excalibur fans.
Excalibur is for all intents dominated by Mutants with many X-men characters, but it acts nothing like X-men books and shows Mutants as another source of powers is entirely usable without the autistic bagage.
Fucking this, I see them all the time, they're so militant about it that they go and put down other franchises like Eternals and Inhumans (conflicts aside) and claim theirs is superior and nobody gives a shit about others. Fucking what? X-Men comics have been on a slump for years, if it wasn't for Hickman taking over in July, they'd still be spiraling down into low sales.
Spiderfags aren't any different
Spiderfags didn't show up in this thread and try to blank the high evolutionary just because they want magneto to have kids other than Polaris.
Wanda and Pietro are better off as far away from X-men shit as anyone else.
So? Ego is still a literal who villain, everyone just remembers Kurt Russell
>if it wasn't for Hickman taking over in July, they'd still be spiraling down into low sales.
Is he really going to be enough of a sales draw to turn things around for them?
Since at least the late 80s to early 90s the X-Men and X-books were extremely popular, got well received cartoons, a number of videogames and high popularity worldwide, when Capcom X-Men fighting game was released in 1994 for arcades it was the most advanced fighting game ever made by that point with multiple combos, aerial combat and awe breath animations. Marvel vs a Capcom 2 was almost 90% X-Men characters on Marvel side, even Marrow got a well animated sprite.
X-Men fans have been extremely spoiled.
And that is precisely why I really like Excalibur.
I would say so. And in any case it's going to sell well, because they're basically canceling every other X-Men book and these fans will be "forced" to buy only two, bi-weekly.
Bruce Wayne slit his wrists before he pledged to wage war on criminals.
It's pretty weird even with franchises that similar or greater popularity, I have seen more xfags that only read x-books and refuse or have no interest and reading other books. Not all of them are the ones that think everything else is shit but still.
>Wanda and Pietro are better off as far away from X-men shit as anyone else.
Sadly we don't get to see them being happy to learn they aren't mutants, because The Metaphor would give a moment like that controversial implications. Instead they don't get to react to the news at all.
hawkman tier handling
I am the guy who bagged the HE. I don’t like Marvel, you are just sucking this guys dick so hard that flashing this thread at anyone under 18 gets you put on a list.
>I would say so. And in any case it's going to sell well, because they're basically canceling every other X-Men book and these fans will be "forced" to buy only two, bi-weekly.
Can there be many people who were buying the second-tier books like X-Force, X-23 or Mr & Mrs X, but weren't buying the main Uncanny X-Men book? They're depending on bringing in new readers, or bringing back lapsed old readers, and bringing in a lot of them, because the current paying audience for X-Men comics appears to be under 40,000 people.
However, Marvel are heavily promoting the two Hickman minis, and retailers will probably over-order, and as they're bi-weekly, they'll be finished before retailers have a chance to adjust orders to meet actual sales.
This annoyed me a bit as a Captain Marvel fan but not because of her being half-Kree, but the continuity oversights regarding Mari-Ell's own backstory. I can see the small nods from her classic origin and whatnot, but this was handled a bit poorly.
No matter, I liked her design.
>X-Men fans have been extremely spoiled.
And in contrast, Scarlet Witch/Vision fans have been punished by Marvel Comics for years, they only appeared in the same cartoon once, had limited time on screen in the MCU movies, and don't get a lot of merchandise. They're getting their own show, and X-Men fans want to make it all about themselves. How is it possible to be that selfish, to have everything, and to still want to take from people who have next to nothing?
This makes them seem more like a much more successful Deviants offshoot
It's an edit user.
She doesn't need anymore ret-cons, she needs good stories.
The original story existed to test Hawkeye's values. His wife told him that she killed her own rapist, but he held firm to his belief that killing is always wrong. Fast forward a few decades, and Clint killed Bruce Banner and Bobbi revealed that she's a lying whore. The heads of Marvel just don't fucking care about their characters.
Wasn't Kro trying to get the deviants perpetual evolution under control at one point?
I honestly think that the X-Men sort of “died” when the 90s ended with their last hurrah being the X-Men Legends games in the early 2000s.
FoX-Men movies have been a negative influence on the franchise, Morrison run wasn’t that great and also influenced by the movies, House of M further screwing everything with a bunch of depowered Mutants making them instead of a growing population that would take over humanity like in My Hero Academia into just a few powered weirdos.
How about when he revealed his secret identity to the Joker for NO REASON?
Not a big one, but one that always annoyed me
Hiccups mothers breastplate which he wore as a helmet in the first movie, painting her as a large Valkyrie of a woman, but instead was designed retconned as a stick in the sequel with tits that wouldn't fill out one of these cups
You forgot the 5th dimension is now a new version of Dream's realm in humans using their imaginations created it.
Phineas and Ferb having "positivity ions" in Milo Murphy's Law, which means everything goes right for them despite "Summer Belongs to You"'s premise is about the opposite of that.
>The heads of Marvel just don't fucking care about their characters.
Does anyone in mainstream comics care about their characters?
X-fags and 20 years later X-writers always want to view X-shit and non X-shit as an either/or situation.
You may like X-Men or you may like Avengers/FF/Spider-Man/Guardians/Inhumans/etc But you are not allowed to like both. And all other species of superpowered people like Inhumans, Gamma freaks, eternals are to be viewed as the enemy to X-Men existence at all times.
90s New Warriors was comfy for this too. They had mutants and nobody ever gave a shit about them being mutants. They had Atlanteans, space robots, lab accident victims, space cops, and super suit wearers too.
I think that was the last retcon of the Atlanteans. They were some Deviants that stopped evolving after fish people.
Does anyone have that panel of a guy calling the Guardians idiots for being suprised a guy named Sinestro turned out to be sinister?
what book is this from?
You say that, but Knull is at least better than what came before him.
He's bad, but and improvement and the lesser of two evils.
Sounds like a Bendis GOTG thing, for sure.
To a future where my evil law!
Was it Plastic Man calling out the Justice League in Injustice, or something else?
>Kree Kleaner
This is the part that makes me angry the most.
>You say that, but Knull is at least better than what came before him.
If you mean the symbiote shit, sure. But his role in the cosmic hierarchy is ridiculous, he supersedes Oblivion for some retarded reason. No, he's not good.
Yeah, this must have been it, in fact.
>This is the part that makes me angry the most.
lol what? That sort of kookie name was par for the course as per Marvel's classic villains.
>i wish the wall was a shield created to keep Eldritch Abomination out
It did? They're eating all of magic now.
So now she fucked a guy and cheated on Clint for months. And when she used up the guy and was ready to go back to Clint, she killed the guy.
And this bitch thinks this is somehow better? SJWs being retarded as fuck never ceases to amaze me.
Because it's not a classic Marvel villain and it's in a serious stupid book about the fucking Kree.
The Kree are the boring straightmen of the galaxy with literally no fun allowed.
>Man, I fucking hated. After I found out that Xorn wasn't Magneto I was so fucking pissed. It was a good end for him but Marvel pussied out.
There were lots of stories that played with the idea of Magneto becoming as bad as the Nazis, actually going through with it and having him holocausting humans was very controversial, it's not surprising they retconned it as soon as Morrison was gone.
>It didn't even make sense, how tf does Xorn look and sound exactly like Magneto for no fucking reason
Same way Mystique can do that. It's a retcon that Xorn had another power he didn't tell you about.
C'mon, it's not that bad.
>SJWs being retarded as fuck never ceases to amaze me.
Nobody likes Chelsea Cain, user. She got recently got called out for being a TERF too.
I don't think it was, it was someone other than Plas and the comic looked kind of older. Like late 90s-early 2000s
Grant "Comics are way too edgy" decided to write this.
There are good odds she never even read that story, it would explain how she came up with such a stupid retcon.
I think she did, but found it more empowering to go her own route. This is one writer who somehow gets off on being a "rebel" about that kinda stuff, even when people in her own camp tell her to cool it.
That would not surprise me.
Especially considering that Mockingbird is all "and thats how I found out Clint got away with murder" completely ignoring that this retcon is about her getting away with murder and adultery.
I half expected an Original Sin storytime.
Brubaker's Bucky shit.
I like Wanda being a mutant for the factor that it's refreshing to see a mutant not caught up in the X-Men bullshit.
Didn't he also retcon Batman and Robin as being high for a long time?
It was Plas telling Superman that they had a literal mustache twirling villain with sinister in his name on their team.
>but because of House of M, and a lot of X-Men fandom hating her since then
>[citation needed]
We hate bendis for it. Also, that problem was fixed like, 10 years ago by Young Avengers: Children's Crusade.
If anyone's unfairly hated at this point, it's Beast and Xavier because writers did their best to shit on them since the 2000s.
Until House of M, that was part of her appeal, she just let her actions speak for her and rejected identity politics, she tried to live amongst humans while the X-Men lived apart from them, but House of M made things so toxic she's better off not being a mutant ever again.
>We hate bendis for it.
Correction: non-casual comic fans hate Bendis for it because he's famous for ruining characters that way (after all, Carol post-CWII is a thing). But most people do dislike Wanda for that just as they do Carol. I rarely see anyone talking about either while mentioning Bendis' role in their character assassination.
God there were so many of those
>Sith afterlife
oh wow I'm mad at Disney Wars again, how do they keep doing it
All of Batman's Silver Age stories were hallucinations that Bruce had.
>Creates Hawksnarl
>We hate bendis for it. Also, that problem was fixed like, 10 years ago by Young Avengers: Children's Crusade.
user, you may be one of the sane ones, but the ones who blame the character not the writer, the ones who won't accept the Children's Crusade retcon, they haven't stopped and they make more noise, demands that she be punished or killed still happen, and some X-Men writers and editors have seemed to agree with this, which makes fans very wary.
Can Marvel just reboot the Marvel universe and pretend that House of M and Decimation never happened?
To be fair, no one ever said that Chelsea Cain is clever or talented.
>X-Men: We need to put Wanda on trial for her actions.
>Avengers: Sure, in exchange, let's put Magneto on trial for all of his actions.
>X-Men: .......
That's honestly how the conversation should have gone when the X-Men suggested that.
>that sound like they were written by a 10 year old.
that's Scott Snyder for you
Take a look at the X-Men forums on CBR and see what their opinion of Wanda is, you're very much in the minority.
For as much shit as Batfags get, even they're not this bad.
Carol was never particularly good
This one I just hate so fucking much. Spider-man got his powers by chance, he's not the fucking chosen one.
I already replied to this but I'd also like to add
>Imagine being such an X-Men fan that you don't see what's such a big deal when Wolverine appears in four different books at once
>Wanda and Pietro are better off as far away from X-men
Of course. They will always be Avengers to me, they were barely involved with x-shit for a long time.
that bad huh
Yeah, okay pal.
The monkey paw might have already heard you...
Theeere you go.
>durgs lmao
Not even surprised, just annoyed... and baffled for all the wank that run gets.
Booster Gold
because it's truly a great run even if you turn your nose up at a couple plot devices it uses.
>>Avengers: Sure, in exchange, let's put Magneto on trial for all of his actions.
Pretty sure most X-Men would have been down for that, except maybe Scott.
Rule number 1 of Yea Forums: Morrison always gets a free pass for his shitty runs.
In the late 80's and 90's sure but in the 00's, the X-Men saw nothing wrong with Magneto being a part of the X-Men and were always excusing his actions. Shit, the X-Men got all pissy and were coming to Magneto's defense when he was put in trial during Claremont's run.
Ehhhhh. Post-HoM, Magneto is pretty hated. Even when he was on the team, everyone begrudgingly accepted him. I seem to remember people giving Mags shit, and it feeling like they were just waiting for him to slip up so they could kick the shit out of him.
Can't speak for what he was like in Bendis-men because I didn't read that shit.
That was the best Secret Origins ever.
Entire nu52
Huh, I could have sworn that the X-Men were perfectly fine with Magneto post-HoM but I might be confusing that period with the "Cyclops is Right" era.
The fact that Reed is like double at fault for making his best friend into a rock monster is hilarious
This, Morrison run on the X-Men as awful, especially with all the black leather influence from the movies, I knew the X-amen are screwed forever when Marvel got influenced by the FoX-Men and ditched all the cool mutants of the 90s for Doom Patrol weirdos made by Morrison and writers who aped him.
>Frank Castle becoming the Punisher was the keikaku of a fallen Archangel
But this one's actually incredible, especially since it plays into Castle's mental illness
Second mutations by Morrison.
>X-Men were perfectly fine with Magneto post-HoM
Nah, that for sure was never a thing. Even when they stood up for him, it was out of necessity.
Like, when Scott puts together his team after Schism, everyone is giving him shit for having Magneto on him.
Some warmed up to him, like Rogue after Age of X(because they started banging). But if I remember correctly, everyone kept him at arm's length at the very least.
>The X-Men continue the cycle of aping Doom Patrol by getting Morrison on the book.
Like pottery
I like the idea of Freeze becoming this monstrous omega-level threat due to the power of his technology and complete detachment from reality. It reminds me of Morrison's version of Dr. Destiny from ASHOSE
I always liked the idea that Selina was a dominatrix, feels appropriate to the character. A sort of “in control of her sexuality” situation that always felt real to me
Having Hal go berserk in the first place was editorially mandated meddling of the highest order. Johns was just fixing what corporate bullshit ruined in the first place.
Cat womanist always cry that their waifu isn't pure;
Year One is the best a story Selina ever got to be in, Miller is based
>Was as unnecessary as retconning the reason Black Cat became a costumed cat burglar is because her boyfriend raped her in college then got hit by a car.
Is that a real thing?
Fun fact: It was only date rape because he misremembered the original story. He felt embarrassed about it, but didn't wanna re-retcon his retcon.
Blame Kevin Smith.
He didn't misremembered the story, he didn't read Son of the Demon in the first place.
Yes. Felicia being sexually assaulted when she was 19 is what made her become Black Cat. Not an activist to help other survivors of sexual violence or maybe even a vigilante, but a cat burglar.
90s X-Men was nothing like Doom Patrol, it was about a bunch of beatiful ubersmench showing their world that is okay for the superior people to control the world.
>tfw genuinely enjoy his comics, in spite of their flaws
>met him once and he thanked me. Saying "Pretty sure you're the only dude who liked Widening Gyre"
It's a shame DC's just sitting on the second half.
But those two has nothing to do with eachother except maybe her cleavage
I find Kevin Smith to be an obnoxious idiot myself, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone ever say he's a dickhead on a personal level.
His movie Chasing Amy was extremely anti-lesbian.
The only people who dislike him is Bruce Willis and Jennifer Garner.
The Catwoman mini from after is even better
i think he admitted to regretting writing this, and i heard some Yea Forums rumor it was done due to influencd from his then wife
Yeah I dont understand whats wrong with that. The Earth X storyline where it was revealed there is the most powerful celestial in existence hatching within Earth and that the reason so many goddamn superheroes and lesser gods exist there is because theyre essentially its immune system while it incubates is very interesting to me and makes a bit of sense.
Too be fair, the idea of retconning the story isn't bad. It was nigh character assassination for Clint and had cast a pall over Bobbi ever since, it's just that "Bobbi secretly cheated on Clint then murdered her boyfriend and claimed rape" isn't an improvement.
Also can we all just sit down and admit that Chelsea Cain is an hebephile with a menstruation fetish?
Hell, you'll get lambasted for only liking Morrison, instead of thinking he's the greatest.
Wasn't Spectre Hal also Johns?
Widening Gyre has a pretty solid plot, but it's dialogue needs another pass or two.
Chasing Amy is an extremely unpleasant film underneath the surface, it's basically a depressing arthouse drama with a veneer of comedy.
I don't hate that.
Whatever the fuck THESE things were. Why did they need to be created for the Inhumans? Will this ever go anywhere?
Man, what was wrong with just having the Monitor and Anti-Monitor being their universe's response to dangerous invading matter?
Carol's character assassination is all on Kelly Sue DeConnick raping her worse than Rogue and Marcus Immortus. By the time Bendis got his hands on Carol, she was already a broken whore at the hands of DeConnick, yelling "sucky sucky five dorrals!!!!!"
On that note the whole prospect of "Hidden Earth Inhuman tribes" which seems to fly in the face of a lot of the Inhumans lore and only served to set up the creation of the NuHumans. They will probably never be brought up again.
>And the Venom Symbiote is one of the first lifeforms in existence that bonded to primordial gods.
This bothers me because I remember reading a Venom solo as a kid where they reveal the symbiotes have a natural predator. As in an entire species that hunts and eats them. And they aren't nearly as powerful as the symbiotes are according to these retcons. So it just makes no sense.
The only one who keeps shitting on Wanda was Kelly Sue DeConnick and her editor. DeConnick hated Wanda because she's a fucking basic bitch retard and her editor was an X-Fag fan who wanted her dead because of House of M
I actually liked this a lot, since it works for the Kree so well beyond mere Celestial intervention. And yeah, the Progenitors are referenced in Waid and Rodriguez's History of the Marvel Universe, so it will go somewhere. Hopefully when Ewing's plans materialize regarding the cosmic Gods and Hercules (as well as his Quasar and Nova stuff that was teased), we'll learn more about the World Farm.
>Hopefully when Ewing's plans materialize regarding the cosmic Gods and Hercules (as well as his Quasar and Nova stuff that was teased), we'll learn more about the World Farm.
What was Ewings plan again?
There's thousands of them it's not that special.
I was thinking the same thing. The context for this dialogue makes no sense.
Part of me wishes they would have had Carol be the big bad of Avengers Disassembled. Would have made a hell of a lot more sense, and they could have still done House of M, with Wanda gathering the Infinity Gauntlet to resurrect everyone Carol killed and her bringing them back and creating a "perfect world" for herself and her family all being happy, until she realizes her dad will be a fascist shit even if he's given what he wants more than anything else and then pulls the "No More Mutants" card with the Gauntlet.
Pretty vague but he teased that he had plans down the road for both characters, he didn't specify (he rarely does). So hopefully it's a new book or series... As far away from Cates as possible.
Did you actually read it?
>Shield is secretly a part of a long running ancient conspiracy that has always existed that involved Da Vinci and are basically the templars from Assassins Creed
What in the hell was even going on in this story. Is this an alternate universe? Is this stuff still canon? Will any writer ever reference it or are they not touching it with a 20 foot pole? I kinda wish they did just to see what would happen.
Pretty sure it was referenced on Spencer's Captain America and Secret Empire.
Are people basically posting every status quo change and asking about it without understanding the definition of retcon? Because this isn't a retcon either, it's an addition to the lore that didn't exist.
I hate that they pushed Celestials as an explanation to super-powered humans and mutants. They should have left it in Earth X, not turn it into another unnecessary retcon.
Yes but DC wanted to resurrect Hal since the Green Lantern series with Kyle was bombing at the time so Johns went along with it and got to fully redeem his husbando.
Unfortunately I'm sure if it is tangential to whatever Ewing is writing at the time, he won't ignore it, so that's a given.
That's the thing, it was a huge retcon to what we previously knew about shield that could come out going forward but the best we see is a passing reference. Thats what we mean by shakeup or lore change that was dumb and goes nowhere or seems gratuitous
A few them got killed in Black Bolt, possibly Lash as well. As for hidden inhumans, they have been doing that shit for decades.see Hydro men, red raven's people, and the hidden ones from the 00s
It's fine I always disliked the 5th dimension, since I was never a fan of Mite or Mr. so eh. So it being much less important is cool.
I have a feeling they did this because the writer thought they were going for this angle in the movie.
And she wasn't completely wrong about it, but clearly someone fed Stohl intel from the set and she ran with the idea.
>You are now reading that as if she then says out loud "BWOOSH BWWOOSSH"
What an iconic page.
That's rather annoying actually
>JEEEEAAAN
That's an edit, right?
no, it's a comedic beat
B-Baymax?
Honestly do think him being unrelated to Howard undermines a lot of what made his issues with him an interesting part of his character. Inheriting both genius and good looks and a propensity for obsession, violence and alcoholism, seeing himself in the mirror as looking like Howard etc and making certain to be different from him was an interesting character facet sacrificed for a tweest. He already didn’t need Howard’s money as he rebuilt he company several times on his own.
It's like a cult. The man wasted his life writing comics when he could have gathered them on a compound somewhere and lived like a king.
A shame that they never revisited the Xenophages.
Maybe they'll retcon them into being an artificial species that someone created to try and fight the symbiotes, but then they went rogue.
Wasn't Amanat her editor at the time?
Cates bullshit is retarded but the symbiotes were already ruined thanks to Benis "lol symbiotes are black people" retcon
they made her (or all of themyscira, can't remember) a vegetarian in a later run
>shitting on a female on her watch
Unlikely.
Honestly these panels don't sound that much like her.
That was sometime around Rucka's first run, though I'm not sure if it was Rucka himself who did that or a prior writer. Granted, considering the rationale behind it was that since Diana can talk to animals it'd be really fucking off-putting to eat them, it had a better reason than when they suddenly made Superman a vegetarian.
I can talk to animals too, but I still eat them
I don't really have a problem with that. Cates ran the whole thing by Jason Aaron first, who at that time didn't have any very specific ideas about where the Necrosword came from or what it was; he was delighted by the idea and rapidly embraced it in his own books. And when you look at the way that Gorr wore it in its first appearances, it's very, very easy to accept the idea that it's a symbiote of a similar stripe. It all fits together pretty neatly.
>got my "precious thing" stolen from me so I will start stealing their shit as a retaliation
Not too far fetched, innit.
>it's basically a depressing arthouse drama with a veneer of comedy.
There was a lot of movies like that in the mid to late 90s, Art House dramas about young adult life with some comedy throwed around
More like, "I spent years honing my body into a weapon so that I might kill my rapist. Oh well, better start stealing shit now that he's dead."
>for god knows what reason Priest tried to bring it back in his mini.
Simple, Priest read Dan Slott's Mighty Avengers run in order to understand what the Unspoken's deal was and didn't read much else, and the editors didn't bother correcting him about the Alpha Primitives.
That Once and Future Kings mini had a far worse retcon that just plain makes no sense though. That story was set before Black Bolt became king, when he and Medusa were still teenagers and Crystal was still a kid. There's just one problem, it's also set during a time in which Spider-Man is active, even though Crystal is clearly supposed to be around Johnny Storm's age and Medusa around Sue Storm's age. If Priest had simply not included Spider-Man in the story, this wouldn't have been a problem.
>Everything about that fills me with rage and disgust
the fuck? why? Maybe I'm just out of the loop but that seems pretty innocuous to me, what's so bad about it?
Heroes in Crisis did a lot of shit retcon, but one relatively minor thing I hate it for is that it retconned the reasons for Roy Harper doing drugs. Instead of lack of parental guidance and alienation, he started doing heroin because he'd become addicted to painkillers because of painkillers but had to stop taking pills because they were damaging his kidneys.
Like, I get what Tom King was going for, being topical about the opioid crisis, but couldn't he have used a different character for this?
Hell, instead of saying LOL THE PROTECTOR IS AN ANTI-DRUG PSA CHARACTER THAT DOES ALL OF THE DRUGS, he could have had Protector reveal that he feels hypocritical because he's addicted to painkillers yet at the same time sending people to jail for doing pot.
Sauce for Cap retcon?
It's even dumber than it sounds. Chuck Austen is a blight upon any character he writes.
>cbr.com
Better than cap hydra
Captain Hydra wasn't a retcon though. Cap's past wasn't actually changed, the Cosmic Cube just created a different Cap.
Making government almost killed cap (but accidentally frozen him instead) and bucky is good idea
...I used to think Alpha Primitives were Inhumans who came out of Terrigenesis wrong.
I guess I just couldn't imagine someone being so cynical as to create a slave race.
I mean it does not seem better than turning humans into Alphas.
Yikes.
Plus a healthy helping of plot armor. The kind that lets the story pretend an Olympic athlete-level with every black belt can seriously contend with the nightmarish love child of a tank, a jet fighter and a supercomputer.
>Sue, Johnny and Ben got their powers because of how Reed thought of them at this moment
>Reed's just stretchy because he's stretchy
Fucking classic,
Quick rundown please.
Confession time: I like this one. I like it.
Knull as this emergent life form appearing in the break between multiverses - we don't know how long those typically are, if you can even say it's time that passes - who thinks he is a god, and then the Celestials appear to re-furbish the multiverse like they have been doing at least six times at this point and they see this... sort of outbreak of cosmic black mold and act accordingly...
I love it.
You are dumb and should not exist.
The adoption was a mistake. And Bendis, well, he never met a bad situation he could not make worse.
Not really, it contradicts all of the stories with Baron Zemo. Not to mention, it makes no sense, why did the government keep him stuck in ice all that time? Even if they didn't know how to do genetics back in the 40s, surely decades later they would know enough to dissect him and try to recreate the Super-Soldier serum they're so obsessed with recreating.
>Perpetua is worse than Knull.
Far, far worse.
>I'm sorry, who is this?
A question you will regret.
>the Celestials creating the universe
Welll.... let's say they help arrange the furniture.
>Perpetua is worse than Knull.
>Far, far worse.
Tbf I hate Knull too.
I compare him to the World Forger because they're stupid but at least they have a gimmick that doesn't break the cosmology.
S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't shown to be part of the Shield of the West really, only more of an inspiration for Fury. And they have appeared to be working independently even after that book.
Not people who actually care.
I will never not be angry about this.
...Thanks. I'll never be able to unsee that now.
"In Korugarian, 'Sinestro' means 'the lion-hearted one', Lantern Gardner."
>he supersedes Oblivion for some retarded reason.
...Isn't he just another aspect of Oblivion?
Also, superceding a being who does nothing on the principle of the thing is easy.
>The Kree are the boring straightmen of the galaxy with literally no fun allowed.
Which, in itself, is a powerful story engine because it goes against every instinct they have. They're like Klingons and Vulcans in one delicious package.
>he didn't read Son of the Demon
Wat.
That does not sound like Grant.
But which one is the original
Worst retcons in order:
Iceman debacle
Sins Past
Nick Fury Jr.
Carol’s mom is Kree
Tony adopted
Angela is Thor’s sister and Tenth Realm exists
Mockingbird wasn’t raped and she was just cheating on Hawkeye
Dum Dum Dugan LMD
Maximoffs not being mutants
X-23 is no longer a clone
All of Star-Lord’s history rewritten for no reason
Groot is not the same Groot
Symbiote planet
Zoom killed Nora Allen
Wally’s dad is a Manhunter
Shazam New 52 reboot
Selina Calibrese
Barbara Gordon having a serial killer brother
Everything America Chavez since Vengeance
Mister Freeze’s backstory being bullshit
Harley Quinn has bleached skin from the beginning
Captain America the commie smasher wasn’t the real Steve and he had to be a bad guy to fight commies
Jessica Jones was Peter Parker’s classmate
Multiple Hulk personalities
Dumb Hulk
Avalanche having a daughter
Wolverine founded the X-Men before Professor X
There were Avengers in caveman time
I will take the supreme Fuck over the retarded ass NOBLE GUARDIAN OF DA GALASY ARR HURR HURR UR NOW SOME KINDA ADVANCED SUPAH NOBLA SYMBIOTE, I MEAN KLYNTAR, WHICH ISNT EVEN GONNA LAST FOR ONE RUN ARR HURR HURR
They were just another Celestial imitation, like the Builders.
Trash, utter trash.
That that idea wasn't his.
>What in the hell was even going on in this story.
Fuck if I know. It certainly did not serve any purpose.
>X-23 is no longer a clone
????? What is she now? Some random bitch with the exact power set as Bubverine?
Fuck this shit
>I get what Tom King was going for, being topical about the opioid crisis
He probably signed the papers to cause the opioid crisis in the first place.
Taylor made it so that she is biologically his child with Sarah Kinney via in vitro fertilization.
The idea is that evil people in government wanted to killed cap but he got frozen instead and survived
Why is that so bad?
I personally love how it was done. The camera started in close-up and just gradually panned out... the story gets bigger and weirder with every step.
But it all still makes sense.
Where does "Bucky was a black-ops assassin all along" and "Celestials created Earth super beings" fit?
Some things are better left mysterious. Like the Joker’s origin.
Winter Soldier is a good retcon. I don’t give a crap about the second.
>"In Korugarian, 'Sinestro' means 'the lion-hearted one', Lantern Gardner."
"Sinestro, really?!"
"In my planet, it stands for evil jackass."
>Winter Soldier is a good retcon.
Absolutely discarded.
And Wolverine's, to be honest.
>Angela is Thor’s sister and Tenth Realm exists
Yeah, wtf was that? She could've been from another dimension like Thundra. Why tie her with Thor?
As far as Marvel is concerned, the non-Hydra Cap is the original.
>Danger Room is a living being Professor X enslaved for the hell of it
Oh fuck why do we always forget about this one... also Deadly Genesis.
What other marvel characters that gained power from cosmic radiation?
Funny enough, Snyder silently retconned it away with his All Star Batman, deliberately leaving it vague so the old origin could be taken as canon to the story.
Yes, but the symbiotes are a concept, not a character. They were actual aliens, not a sort of... embodiment of existential horror, or laughing at the futility of it all.
Them being a cosmic omniadaptive weapon created by a furious god of darkness who was spawned outside the natural order of existence seems pretty... awesome.
For once, Cates insanity turned out pretty well.
"Would you like to know what a 'Gaigarner' is in Korugarian, you pale, carrot-headed boor?!"
(...)
"So what was it, anyway?"
"A sort of ball-point pen."
Should also include these:
Highfather and Darkseid are brothers
Danger Room is a living being Professor X enslaved for the hell of it
Guy Gardner is part alien
Kyle Rayner is half Mexican
Jackson Hyde
Bruce Wayne has a cousin
Mar-Vell screwed a Skrull
Jim Gordon cheated on his wife
Dick Grayson is Romani
Hank Pym having a Secret kid with his first wife
Donna Troy being clay instead of Wonder Woman
Damian Wayne being conceived and thus disrupting the status of the other Robins
Supergirl being older than Clark. Silver Age origin was better.
And, having tied her with Thor, utterly fail to use her properly?
It is maddening to me that they had a female, unpolished, brutal, passionate, fearsome Thor-equivalent who just discovered her past is a lie AND a Thor-shaped hole in the Marvel universe, and they decided to bring in goddamned Jane Foster. I want to know who came up with that decision, so I can wish them ill.
The U-Foes. They intentionally replicated the exact circumstances of the incident to get super-powers, but unfortunately the Hulk crashed into their vessel.
Also Sharon Ventura, the second Ms. Marvel nobody remembers being the second Ms. Marvel.
Booster being Rip’s father.
>Mar-Vell screwed a Skrull
At this point, I think everyone supposedly screwed skrulls.
>Hogfather and Darkseid are brothers
Could be based
Nico Minoru was bi the whole time and her rejecting Karolina the first time was just because she hadn’t met Jean Grey Rowling yet.
I think Angela would've been a competent Thor. But I also like her being herself...
D-Man being a gay hipster.
Two words: Punch Dimension
Written by Marguerite Bennet, whose Marvel Database page looks like this.
Any credibility or good will for her went out the window the moment she easily beat (Illusion!?)Bor.
Angela doesn’t belong in the Marvel Universe.
I mean, she could have worked just retconned as a relatively strong valkyrie and that's it.
Why delete this just to repost it identically?
Wow. That's just sad.
This tbqh. Maybe she should haven't been tied to the larger Marvel universe like Malibu.
>They were actual aliens, not a sort of... embodiment of existential horror, or laughing at the futility of it all.
Oh, you're one of THOSE.
I don't get that pic. I don't remember hearing japs really complaining about the bombing anymore.
>Guy Gardner is part alien
No, I like that one. It's how they got rid of it that is so stupid.
>Mar-Vell screwed a Skrull
Princess Anelle. "A Skrull"... geesh.
No, no, don't make her a Thor. She would not even try to lift the hammer, although I don't doubt for a second she could. She doesn't want it.
But to take his role as the god-protector of the frail humans, a thousand years before she is ready to take that on, emotionally... that is interesting. Interacting with the Avengers and outright not getting why her little brother had any patience with them at all. Rough-edged, brutal, impatient, but in her heart of hearts she wants to protect innocents.
But oh boy, it so was not.
Why couldn't it just be the Crimson Cosmos! Super-destructive kinetic red beam: it is so obvious.
"Don't you know who I am? I am CYCLOPS, BITCH!"
Sad and appropriate. The only info it has on her is that she is female. So fitting.
...You are almost certainly right... but what do you mean by 'those'?
Monet being a Muslim. Her mother was Algerian, but her dad wasn’t. If her mom was Muslim (which there was no evidence of until G. Willow Wilson made it a plot point), she wouldn’t have been allowed to marry a non-Muslim unless she ran away with him and then, why would she raise her kids in the religion? Islam is passed down from the father.
The Red Ghost and the Super-Apes.
Nobody knows anything about Monet. She is 1/4 black and people always draw her darker than Storm.
White muslims exist, and regardless why wouldn't a muslim mother raise her kids in her religion? If the mother is genuine in her faith, of course she'd want her kids to follow it too.
I choose to believe this never happened
Peter David made her Muslim. G. Willow Wilson just expanded on it in her own obnoxious way. Though I’m not surprised PAD wasn’t familiar with it. He is an expert on Romani culture though.
>Muslim genuine in her faith
>marrying a non-Muslim
I DON’T THINK SO
Speaking of PAD, Shatterstar losing his badassery and asexuality is another one.
Oh come on, you are just hating him now. He is not perfect but you act like he has done nothing good and even his batman run was great just not perfect.
I see potential for this to be reversed as asexuality has become a thing and you now see it being celebrated with that Asian Uber driver girl in Twitter.
Because there was a blatant misspelling.
My great-grandma did.
One of those guys from the horrorverse threads.
Everyone and their moms no longer being a mutant and it becoming an Inhuman. How many is that?
Toro
Blizzard
Squirrel Girl
Maximoffs
Being adopted is worse than munching on bean curd all day every day. Everyone adopted 100% becomes a onionsboy or a tranny. We should purge the adopted from our great land, but the problem is what to do with them. Does anyone have any ideas for a solution?
Yeah that's how the story ended, that he was not a chosen one
Deadpool being declared pansexual and having a daughter.
Reactivate the Madagascar plan
>Wolverine and all other mutants like him (Sabretooth, Wild Child, etc.) were descended from Lupine Mutants.
I fail to see the issue with this, seeing how Wolverine and Sabertooth are borderline animals while said animal motif is not part of their mutant powers.
Deadpool’s daughter is half Mexican and she’s as dark as Agent Preston. Why? Carm was pretty light. She should look more like a young Selena Gomez or Victoria Justice.
In their defense, this is literally the only way almost any Silver Age "oh know we've swapped bodies with our villains!" or a dozen other similar plots could work. The mistake is even pretending the Silver Age can even remotely remain canon.
I actually liked Lash quite a bit. His motivations were rooted in the way Terrigenesis was originally presented and used. And made sense in that extreme religious zealot sort of way.
Shame the Inhumans were misused so badly due to Perlmutter's push. Would have liked to see an actual story with Lash.
Dr. Light is a rapist.
Gotta get that sweet, sweet MCU synergy, my dude. Can't have movie watchers getting confused by FOX's X-Men existing.
Lash was good in AoS
Rhino being Russian for some reason.
I think you mean DISNEY's Xmen, produced by Marvel Studios in association with Fox (a subsidiary of the Disney Company) Productions
Chameleon and Kraven being half brothers.
>make retcon for movie synergy
>Movie never does not have the part you retconned making the retcon pointless.
That wasen't exactly for no reason, by that point Bruce figured out that the Joker already knew who was under the mask.
Its canon. Da Vinci, Tesla, and Newton have all shown up in other comics.
>What in the hell was even going on in this story.
Hickman's SHIELD story is basically about how the sliding timescale was created in-universe. Its creation is how the central conflict is solved.
>Does anyone have any ideas for a solution?
if you're a parent you automatically get enough money every year to live in a nice house, full medicare coverage for everything, massive tax breaks, and high quality nannies to anybody who wants them
also killing a parent intentionally or accidentally is punishable by public humiliation and chemical castration
you gotta make having a kid zero burden at all and remove all risks to parents lives if you wanna eliminate both kids getting orphaned and kids being put up for adoption by parents that are unable or unwilling to look after them
More or less. Marvel has this habit of seeing a tidbit from the movies, and extrapolating a retarded hook from it. Like Rhodey dying in Civil War 2.
They're so bad at it, its mind boggling that they just don't wait until they see an early screening to get the full picture and then synergize. Instead, the greed and fomo fucks thier brains up every time.
Edgy
>Killing the economy is the solution
I have my doubts about that, but Hungary already has a similar plan implemented so we will see how that goes
I mean, not to defend this really stupid plot twist, but that absolutely would be in line with what we know about Howard Stark as a person.
That time the Hulk was a werewolf whose mood depended on the lunar cycle.
What's wrong with these?
I think Devil Hulk does this now in Ewings run.
Everything about Conan History was a part of the 616, then it wasn't, now it is again.
Joker is now some neverending chaos deity. Dumb.
Sonja still isn’t though.
Guardian's completely made up survival from Byrne's classic AF#12 death issue was so sci-fintastic in Bullpen's eyes that they incorporated the alien stuff into canon, right?
Marvel did such an impressive jobs holding out to not do a COIE Event for so long but then had to put the suck in succumb and have last Secret Wars, Universe 8 and First Firmanent now resulting in Continuity Freeforall.
Decades of uncredible regenerative survival from Logan explained (in a pretty good way) with Azrael curse after the Nitro blew him to literal bits. But is that still canon? And now that concern for logic is gone again with Deadpool, Terror, etc.
Everything about already Continuity Messed Hawkman with this last Atoning Deathbringer book. Sheira is now just baggage he picked up along the way? Blecch.
>Hickman
S.H.I.E.D. is an eternal organization that got interested in anagrams.
>having a daughter.
I liked that personally. It gave him some kinda positive thing in his life.
That kinda sounds intriguing (w/o knowing the details yet).
And Quicksilver the one who caused all this by manipulating Wanda in her darkest hour gets away scott free. Hell I bet most of you forgot he was the one who convinced her to re -write reality and mind and gene fuck everyone into the mutant world
I forget which one, trying to imagine it as misinformation, but didn't that Gaur Event have backup stories in that Marvel Annuals crossover that changed the origin of Vampires or Werewolves to be ALIEN??! Either way, phooey on that. Has it been retconned back, since?
Jor El is alive. Rogol did it. Understandably a triggering issue but all the detail revelations are still in (decompressed) progress - so it's salvageable either way still?
That's because they retconned their own history books so they just magically forgot most of WWII. Just that they were nuked one day and lost.
But doesn't this whole Future Ghost Rider anchoring itself into present canon ruin this already controversial retcon?
Now that's just a biased fan opinion.
THAT's what that gimmick maxi was about? Maybe I WILL read it afterall...
>- so it's salvageable either way still?
Hahahahahaha. Bitch please. Its Bendis. Shit is either going to go nowhere, or its going to be retarded as fuck.
but there were those ENDLESS nu-flashback sequences where all characters involved took to be canon -if not were canon- except by all other book characters not involved. This went on too, too long and hasn't really been clarified properly
Shatterstar had a bunch of retcons, first he was supposed to be the future born Mojoworld son of Longshot and Dazzler then Jeph Loeb made him be a brainwashed mutant named Benjamin Russel, I don’t know what is his official origin anymore.
The former in Deadpool 2
what issue was this said or is it just an interesting No-Prize fix
I actually like this retcon if all the Bullpen would get on board with it. How many descrepencies would there be? That one time all-knowing Belasco called her "a clone"?
Did anyone mention the sentient that's been stuck in Mjolnir since the beginning??
Is there a list?
>the sentient that's been stuck in Mjolnir since the beginning
??
Not sure if you can say it's really a retcon, but it's still stupid.
From Adventure Time
When they decided to retcon the lead girl Princess Bubblegum some kind of immortal mangele wannabe who was directly responsible for poisoning the people of the Candy Kingdom to keep them infantile and "safe", and then doing a 180 to make her seem completely justified. Felt like a page out of some highschool kid's grimdark fanfic.
Dunno, but they definitely should. I just tend to count all the recent Thor fuckery together under "Original Sin" for whatever reason, or else we'd need a thread just for that.
You can probably blame the fuckers who kept insisting "of COURSE he killed tons even if that wasn't said". If anything it was a clever way to explain it.
The story was intended to be a news-related hit piece before hiatus kicked in and public opinion moved on from the topic.
>Did I mention humans have existed since the first DC cosmos ever was made now and have the innate racial trait of wielding the seven dark energies she built the multiverse with?
Sounds like some Theosophical bullshit to me
It is a retcon, the las vegas rampage he had before getting launched into space had confirmed deaths.
>Felt like a page out of some highschool kid's grimdark fanfic.
The Lich didn't give that away?
Is that even a retcon?
I thought the origin from the first X-23 mini was that Kinney genetically modified an egg with Logan's DNA, fertilized it, then held the baby to term.
>It is a retcon, the las vegas rampage he had before getting launched into space had confirmed deaths.
I wonder who wrote that...
Anyway, wasn't that the Abomination framing him? Am I getting stories mixed?
Well yeah. The one under the mask is Batman. Bruce Wayne is the costume.
I fucking hate that Ewing brought this back. In a run with Hulk killing dudes, its wholly unecessary to bring this horseshit back up again.
Make sure you read the following two serries as well.
Things get so much crazier and much more retarded.
>the las vegas rampage he had before getting launched into space had confirmed deaths
>a retcon
More like the most plausible course of action when the Hulk attacks such a small but densely populated area. If the Hulk doesn't deal with collateral damage, why the fuck is Bruce is so afraid of using him? It just doesn't make sense.
You noob, it was his own joke that Crazy Quilt actually believed
...I don't know what the 'horrorverse' is.
...Obscure.
>how the sliding timescale was created in-universe
I thought Ewing solved that shit in two pages in 'Ultimates'.
He... is? Since when?
what the fuck is ether and how do we conquer it?
>the most powerful celestial in existence hatching within Earth
...The book makes no statement about how powerful the Celestial embryo is. Just that it's there and that this sort of thing has been happening all over the place.
Read Earth-X. It's good. The follow-ups not so much.
You mean the living cosmic storm?
You are. However, when the Hulk was rampaging through Las Vegas he was delirious because HYDRA had detonated a nuclear bomb in his face.
But not innocents. Devil Hulk hurts people, a lot even, but does not kill. Except that one guy who had cut him into a bunch of pieces and taunted him.
As far as I know, Morrison's stuff was messed with and he was pissed so he never went back. Kind of like with JMS getting pissed at Marvel over Siege fucking up his Thor run.
Sulphuric acid in alcohol. There, done.
>I thought Ewing solved that shit in two pages in 'Ultimates'.
Ewing just showed that it was an actual thing in-universe.
Hickman showed how and why it was actually created.
well shit that was easy. NEXT
Taskmaster being a SHIELD agent who can't remember his life or family. The absolute last guy that needed a "tragic" backstory.
Imagine a kid reading this, then looking into MRAs, expecting some KKK shit, but instead finding people talking about fathers' custody rights and male suicide awareness.
>But not innocents. Devil Hulk hurts people, a lot even, but does not kill. Except that one guy who had cut him into a bunch of pieces and taunted him.
Yeah, I get that. I just wish Ewing had not chosen to emphasize that point by bringing up Pak's stupid super-math shit.
>Cates ran the whole thing by Jason Aaron first
Yeah no, the problem isn't that he ran it by Aaron first nor that "it fits neatly", it's that it's a ridiculous concept that supersedes Oblivion and basically is introduced as this mighty force of the Universe that is already more powerful than a Celestial, completely unexplained, and "ruling in the Void" like it's no big deal. A single issue and the guy is pretty much the originator of a lot of things, and you're supposed to care for it. You can't even place him within the larger cosmic pantheon because he's supposed to be what, a God? What the fuck even is he?
That's why I secretly expect him to become an Avatar of Oblivion or some shit, so that way at least one can say "whoa, that guy Knull sure was a threat, huh? Good thing Oblivion got tired of him and nuked him".
>...Isn't he just another aspect of Oblivion?
That's the thing, Oblivion isn't mentioned ANYWHERE, it could be so easy, but I don't think Cates is even aware of the Abstract concept.
>Multiple Hulk personalities
Fucking casual.
>All of Star-Lord’s history rewritten for no reason
The Humphries retcon right? Or was it Bendis? Anyway remember he was brought into 616 because he wasn't even used before Giffen in the Marvel Universe.
>Everything America Chavez since Vengeance
Nah. The Gabby retcon was shit, the other stuff was cool.
>Them being a cosmic omniadaptive weapon created by a furious god of darkness who was spawned outside the natural order of existence seems pretty... awesome.
Right, you're one of those.
Trump Heights really fucked with your ability to call out Zionism, huh?
This is what I mean by people not knowing what a "retcon" is. That behavior is literally the way Hulk used to work when he was first conceptualized by Kirby and Lee, like a Jekyll & Hyde kinda thing. This wasn't made up by PAD.
If Hypertime is a thing in DC with Morrison, with Ewing it's Supercontinuity, in which everything is canon also.
>That's the thing, Oblivion isn't mentioned ANYWHERE, it could be so easy, but I don't think Cates is even aware of the Abstract concept.
You mean he is... oblivious?
Oblivion not existing in people's minds fits his... I guess we'd have to call it 'characterization'.
Those WHAT??
At least Demattie's Spectre Hal was awesome
Let me guess, you haven't read anything about Oblivion before my post. That's not how he acts.
The kind of guy who goes into a Cates thread to say "whoa I don't know if this is the coolest shit or the stupidest shit ever", and very likely gawked at the idea of Silver Surfer holding Mjolnir in Thanos Wins, loving every retarded idea he comes up with.
I have read some, but not nearly enough.
>loving every retarded idea he comes up with
Fuck no. I hated his Thanos. But Knull? I like it.
>I want to know who came up with that decision, so I can wish them ill.
Aaron did so he'd get royalties whenever they'd use her in other stuff.
Truly a desolate wasteland
Sexy Velma. It makes no sense and is simultaneously misogynistic and pandering
Gillen made Tony adopted in his run because the real son of Howard and Maria was fucked up because Howard messed with the alien technology that was making his existence possible, because Maria was incapable of getting pregnant. This son was supposed to pilot a giant, celestial killing robot, for some reason or another, it’s all a contrived plot so that Gillen could introduce his own version of Iron Man 2020, but then he lost interest half way through and left everything dangling. Which left the door open for Brian Michael Bendis to insert his own brand of shit into the iron man books, well before he wrote Tony out of the book in favor of his OC.
So now Tony is the son of a rock star, who was also a shield agent, and a some hydra agent that she killed, but then it turned out that he didn’t die. It’s all just needlessly complicated and fucking stupid. And Arno, the fucking reason for this shitty retcon, has been absent from the story because no one knows what to do with him, Slott is planning something for next year but even then he’s hardly shown up at all.
Menstruation is such a weird hill to die on.
This obsession with a body function... "that we don't casually have conversations about menstruation at the dinner table is proof-positive that we live in a patriarchal culture!"
No, for the same reason that we aren't talking about piss, shit, and smegma (if you want a male-specific function) at the dinner table either. It just doesn't belong in that situation.
To bad about her feminism coming at odds with the trans movement, having to delete her twitter account and run away hiding. What did they think was going to happen, if you attack the gender binary in order to hurt men, did you really not think it'd come back to hurt women as well? You made this dress-wearing Frankenstein, you have fun with it.
KYS
And so, it's up to Slott to maybe try to fix this bullshit, if he feels like not doing something stupid.
Wew.
Menstruation is nowhere near as disgusting or taboo as your make it out to be, incel. You're just validating the notion that menstruation should be talked about, because you're unironically comparing the ability to ovulate and breed children to the cheese on your unwashed dick.
fuck you, chubby nerds are not sexy
She wasn’t even all that chubby, most of it was the big ass sweater she was wearing, and her huge tits.
>She wasn’t even all that chubby, most of it was the big ass sweater
user...
>character was a womanizer all his existence
>had never shown any interest in men
>suddenly turned gay
I don’t even want to say his name because it hurts. No it’s not Iceman
Johnny Bravo?
Spider-fag here
The only thing about me that resembles that list is that I don't think the MCU handled him properly by tying him so very closely to Iron Man and I don't think that he should be actually on the Avengers' main roster in any universe. I'm fine with team-ups (like them actually) and do care about the rest of the universe (though Peter is far and away my favorite).
>Imagine resenting any time other heroes appear in an X-Men book
This does my fucking nut in, I hate it. Fantastic 4 showing up crushed my soul
Slott isn’t going to do jack shit with it, he’s already introduced evil A.I. versions of Howard and Maria, his Arno so far looks like he’s headed in the direction of becoming iron monger 2020 than Iron man 2020.
I think it comes from the fact x-men book where incredibly good once and now they are absolute shite. Shitting on other marvel characters is the only way they can fell good about their series.
I mean the recent iceman books have to be some of the worst comics of all time.
Muties are an ensemble piece, solo books are a fucking cancer regardless of your position on X-Men stuff overall
>I mean it does not seem better than turning humans into Alphas.
Enslaving free people sounds worst than making slaves to me. Especially when it involves mutating them. The bigger problem is nobody tried to turn them back. Even crazier is that they fix all the Avengers that got turned but didn't cure a single alpha primitive.
>it's up to Slott
Why would you trust him with anything?
It's akin to detecting Downs in utero. Since women will always abort a dawns baby if they know about it, it's genocide by stealth
>Guy Gardner is part alien
That got retconned into a virus that made him seem Vuldarian.
>Kyle Rayner is half Mexican
That's not a retcon if we didn't know shit about Kyle's dad beforehand. You could tell he wasn't hispanic just from the one panel of him saluting when he was given the message his brother died? Now what's complete bullshit is King thinking Kyle knows Spanish.
I quite like the solo wolverine and Kurt had a nice solo mini series in the 80s books...but you are right I can't Think of any good solo mutant book besides those.
They're gonna pull a "Tony Stark isn't Tony Stark, he's just someone who thinks he is, so Stark Industries goes to his family, Arno."
How is making a young woman look sexy 'misogynistic'? 'Misogyny' means you hate women.
This is the exact opposite. Misophily, I guess.
It makes no sense? Maybe Velma delliberately dressed like that, including hair and heavy-duty glasses so she would be appreciated for her considerable intelligence instead of her supple body, slender waist and dynamite twinset of large but firm boobs and butt.
Which is not the same as saying that's misogynistic, she just was tired of saying "Hey, my eyes are up here".
I may be misremembering but was that not established very early on?
>Arno, the fucking reason for this shitty retcon, has been absent from the story because no one knows what to do with him, Slott is planning something for next year but even then he’s hardly shown up at all.
He's been reintroduced and it's all proceeding towards Iron Man 2020.
Some of these are good, boomer. Some of these are the legit real intentions of the original writers. A majority of these retcons are bad but you listed nearly every retcon, even the good ones
Alan Scott?
Yup. I bet it's gonna be a year of Arno culminating in him bringing Godkiller to Earth and 451 being behind it all... somehow.
Bone claws
No fucking need for this shit
A majority of these aren't retcons or bad, retard. Control your autism, spaz
Bucky as a black ops assassin was a bullshit idea full stop. Basically Brubaker making canon his teenage fan theory that Bucky=Cable, fucking over Christopher Priest in his prime because of it and causing Priest to go into retirement for like 10 years.
Also, Earth X was forgettable garbage until Hickman decided to make it canon even though fans had largely rejected it outright the moment it first came out.
Ultimate Xorn/Zorn was Kino
www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL6J7FJmy1c
Damnit, OP. Now the thread is filled with old boomers complaining about how Captain America being frozen. Fuck oldheads, this is a board for the modern man
While I'm iffy on the whole saving Ahsokha part, it was nice to see some actual mythology and fantasy elements in Star Wars again.
Im so thankful, I wasn't born with shit taste
>Earth X was forgettable garbage until Hickman decided to make it canon even though fans had largely rejected it outright the moment it first came out
Wow. So what part became canon, apart from the one where humanity had been created by the Celestials, which had been canon for two decades at that point?
Got the details wrong
1. He was supposed to be a generic Mojoverse freedom fighter (liefeld's version) and asexual
2. Jim Lee snuck in the idea of Shatterstar being Dazzler/Longshot's kid.
3. Fabian Niceiza hated this idea and killed Dazzler/Longshot's baby off off-panel and also made Shatterstar gay for Rictor.
4. Jeph Loeb had a plan for Shatterstar being Dazzler/Longshot's kid after all, who was sent back in time and raised as Benjamin Russell, who was then mindwiped and sent back to the future and then ended up back into the past. Also, to have him come out of the closet. Bob Harras hates Dazzler/Longshot with a passion and fired Loeb mid-storyline and his replacement keeps Shatterstar in the closet and does a garbage "Shattershot is killed and his mind is transferred into Benjamin Russell's body in the past by Spiral, who may or may not be related to Russell, who also happens to be Shatterstar's identical double but we aren't explaining why" conclusion to the arc, then quietly orders the next full time writer on the book (Moore) to write out Shatterstar.
5. Years later PAD gets a new X-Factor book and he makes a huge fucking deal about how Rictor is 100% straight and fuck you "Shatterstar/Rictor" shippers. But no one buys X-Factor V2 and with the book about to be canceled, PAD caves and brings Shatterstar back and outs him as gay/pairs him with Rictor in a desperate bid to get people to buy that garbage book of PAD's.
6. X-Factor gets canceled and before it goes away, PAD is forced to spend his final issues clearing up unresolved plot issues such as Shatterstar and Polaris's pasts. For Shatterstar, he reveals that yes, he is Dazzler and Longshot's kid BUT tosses in a twist where Shatterstar is also Longshot's father, due to present day Shatterstar being kidnapped by Arize and Mojo, who steal Shatterstar's DNA to create Longshot.
Why the fuck do writers hate heroes family members so much? They always end up being giant cunts or super villains or robots in disguise or some shit.
>Devil Hulk hurts people, a lot even, but does not kill.
>pleas come back, this is worse than death!
Yeah, he sure does.
Fuck Ewing
None of it. Hickman borrowed the idea that Celestials I plant their babies into a planets’ core to gestate, and when they are ‘born’, the planet is destroyed. That’s it.
Easy implied connection, saves time writing secondary characters who people will care about when they betray the hero
I love that Loeb just decided to go full retard with his plan. Ducking bouncing him back and forth in time like a pinball.
LOL this why superhero comics should just die.
based boomer rant
....I must have missed where that became canon.
posting an actually good retcon
I really, really hate that Nightcrawler went from a mutant who had some demonic-like physical alterations, to a literal demon.
It adds precisely zero while removing an interesting comment on mutantkind. Sure, some win the genetic lottery and are born with purely-hidden powers like telepathy, or are gifted with beautiful physical alterations like Angel's wings, but not everybody is so lucky.
Arno is the true Stark heir, and I think he might actually be older than Tony by a few months or maybe even a year since he had already been hidden away in secret hospital by the one that they adopted Tony.
I can’t help but feel that someone is going to use Immortus to fix all of this, and it’s goin to result in the crossing 2: electric boogaloo.
To be fair, that was an alternate universe Alan. It’s not like young Alan came from the past and confessed to his older self that he loved cock.
>but the worst was trying to say alpha primitives were humans.
>filename
Never in that story is stated or even implied that Attilan's Alpha primitives were originally humans who were devolved.
>Menstruation is nowhere near as disgusting or taboo as your make it out to be
it is though
Jean coming back to life was the biggest mistake in comics history because of what it did for the industry
What for? His Ultimates run was the last time the Celestials did something of note and didn't job in the process.
But it was a story that NEEDED to be told
That one was bullshit in universe. Three Jokers on the other hand..
Thanks user, you have healed a long held wound in my heart.
Again, how, what?
>Never in that story is stated or even implied that Attilan's Alpha primitives were originally humans who were devolved.
Priest disagrees he had the Alpha in that claim the slave engine robbed him of his humanity.
Didn't like the changes he made to the universe. Yes, he pulled deep from marvel lore in some places to string things together staying in somewhat in continuity but I dont like how he went about it.
Krypton wasn’t destroyed by incompetence from the high council, but by some guy that you’ve never heard of.
That's beyond the point. The original story by Slott and Gage only has The Unspoken unearth his machine that he says was made in case they had to subjugate humans (for waging war against them) and that he's going to use it now to build an army. What Priest came up with is an interpretation of what could've been in the story already, but added "current Alpha primitives are mutated humans" to it.
>Groot is not the same Groot
Ok, what's this bullshit now? I was considering reading All-New Guardians because it seemed like they explained the mess with Groot with the Gardener, but now sounds like it ain't worth it?
>retcon a classic character
>turn it into an edgy OC
It was some colossal bullshit.
I can't be the only one that got tired of the Celestials' bullshit and enjoys when they get their asses kicked left and right.
