What is something that you've become more tolerant on after starting your own webcomic? Alt Q: Everyone has their most loved tools/materials/software, but what are your most hated never again items?
Don't just post an image, let us know what your comic's called, and link us to it!
Reminder that if your protagonist ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE a loser or a villain through and through, then he and his pals must adhere to these two rules or they'll look like chumps ala Finn from Adventure Time or Wakfu's Yugo. You don't want them to be seen as beta cuck bums like Finn from Adventure Time or Wakfu's Yugo, do you?
This is the pirate Bonnie Cavendish, captain of the snake pirates, and the master of the ring/lamp. She is a blonde Englishwoman, who wears a magic hat made with the biblical Samson's hair and Joseph's coat that grants her the ability to never age and it changes color based on mood (usually pink). Thanks to Dee, she can transform into a mermaid at will. She is the richest girl in the world, and her personality is a mix of Nami (from one piece), Scrooge McDuck, and Donald Duck. Her Jolly Roger (crossbones) is a snake skull and her hat. She commands the caravel "Bloody Mary".
Dee's familiar will be a feathered snake named either Cleo or Nami Janey's familiar will be a spotted cobra named Samuel/Sammy
I'm going to create more expression sheets for Dee and Janey, with more exaggerated poses (and snakes). Also, creating snake designs and practicing dynamic gestures. What else should I be doing to improve, I guess background studies, but how do I practice narrating visually? I don't think I can do any advanced studies yet.
Araki is such a fucking idiot, no wonder he's a terrible writer that can only get by with pulling complete bullshit out of his ass to resolve the corners he write the plot into.
Ryder Scott
Unironically very good advice for most of us. Great heroes have at least one element of exceptionalism, even if it is only the courage to try. Even more fundamentally, heroes confront adversity willingly and unambiguously. Underneath any nuance or gray areas you may want to use, there must be a life affirming triumph over the impossible suffering of life. Anything less is not a hero.
Alexander Harris
Name me one good hero that can't stand on his own. I really liked this video, but i completely disagree with Araki about creating female characters. Probably because most of them are fucking terrible.
Justin Sanchez
All his heroes have the writer on their side, because he's such a bad writer its literally the only way they can win
>"The Same Stand..."
Elijah Hill
I feel like most heroes especially IRL and in my work are just people who stumbled into a situation and dealt with it the best they could like I roll my eyes when people are called heroes purely because they experienced suffering, but that can, at least, be the beginning of heroics.
Grayson Perry

Hudson Taylor
So I posted last thread, and will shamelessly do it again.
I want to make a bunch of stories. Some comics, some writing, and if the stars align, at least one cartoon. I want them all to connect. Not too heavily, as I want them all to be enjoyable standalone, but set in the same multiverse.
Well, my buddy recommended I get the deep lore all compiled and so I made some videos to help explain it.
I've got 2 so far, and the audio varies heavily in both volume and quality (I'm getting better). Narrated by me, with the pictures (except where it clearly is't) also drawn by me.
So, if you want to watch them cool. I'd appreciate some feedback. It starts off kind of generic, I know, but it will get less so as more videos are made.
i won't link them again, until a new video is made.
A list of most of most of my projects. I started many project because I kept throw things at walls to see if any of them will catch on, but I always came back to Rococo because she is close to my heart.
I keep abandoning webcomics because people make fun of them, should I pursue some other hobby?

I posted on the previous thread with a webcomic/4koma idea about an ex-sex robot trying to learn other careers. I came up with some concept art of her, a little different than the one design in the old thread.
Liking her better than the last design, but I still feel like I'm not gonna fuck anything with jointed metal hair and a battery jammed through her head.. if that's what you're going for, cool. I will still read the comic.
Gavin Johnson
thaaaank you! to be honest I always get a slight feel of dissapointment after every page, but I hope it pushes me to get better.
Ignore the hate and dont give up! The more you focus on the negative the less you'll think of your art and your webcomic positively
Yeah is right about the hair though. Maybe make a short cute hairstyle, that'll suit her. If not then that's okay.
Matthew Baker
The problem isn't the hobby, it's having a thin skin. If you want to do anything in life you have to accept that someone might not like it or will make fun of it.
Camden Collins
My first time in this thread. Anyone need someone to do colors?
Matthew Williams
Stick around a while, I know I've seen someone asking for a colorist before. If they're still around, they might not be in this specific thread but I know one existed.
Nicholas Sanchez
I want people to like it, but if it's just that bad then the problems it causes for people outweighs my own enjoyment of making it. It really is a bummer though, because I wanted to be one of you guys but I think I'm not cut out for it. It's been fun talking to you though and I thank you for your time.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
Aw, thanks. which ones do you like?
I honestly don't have time to responsibily taking on commissions right now but what kind of ideas?
I never felt the need to draw stuff for Full Metal Alchemist, because I personally don't felt like they were lacking in something, I really like that comic.
no... that list is for on-going stuff. I might make a list of stuff I finished or actually abandoned next.
>I honestly don't have time to responsibily taking on commissions right now but what kind of ideas?
Like for an outright 30-page "pilot" comic. We could start at B&W, but shift to colors if you're comfy with it.
Julian Gutierrez
well aside from the stuff you've posted here, the oban and blackcatandkitten ones

How about some sympathetic to her plight, not necessarily romantic, tech /g/uy who tries to program non-sexual skills for her. Just go full on Richard Stallman with him. Or her.
Jackson Taylor
That's not a reference I was thinking of, but if you think it's clever I'm glad to pretend it was on purpose
Nicholas White
ah... I wasn't saying I am picking up the project, I am just curious what you are working on.
I see. I am still working on the Oban Comic, although black cat one might take a bit more work to ramp it up again. I draw kind of different nowadays. Its been integrated into "Terminator Mom"'s timeline.
Yeah, definitely. The comic I have in mind is actually not going to be as lewd as the anons make it out to be. I want it to have funny and sad moments. Something-something, she's an older model that doesn't really have any use anymore, but she can't help but go back to old habits. Her old owner is married and told her to go out and discover the world for herself, so she tries her best in that department.
Samuel Brown
so nice. oh I didn't expect the comic to be very lewd, I was just thinking in terms of the plausibility of her backstory
Jordan Martin
>I am just curious what you are working on.
Washout brawler heroine from a now-disbanded group of music-themed star heroes goes through a multitude of bizarre temp jobs (ex. being a landscaper for a giant's enormous garden, acting as a stagehand for a theatre plagued by a Phantom of the Opera type) as she tries to raise this baby she found in what she thought was a treasure chest. Each arc covers an episode of a "year" of their lives as the kid grows up and her adoptive mom slowly begins to learn how said kid winded up in that chest.
Watched the two videos posted, was entertaining, nothing too out of the ordinary but I like how you separate the worlds and lesser gods so that they have no power of action outside of their universe. I think "Angel of Death" its a pretty cliche name though".
That said, you are planning to make a comic and this is important info, id reccomend making a simple diagram because most people wont be into watching videos. I think. If its just lore for you then the videos are great for the people who want to know more while reading your comic.
Angel of death is a placeholder name. It has no real name. And thanks.
The reason I did it in video format was cause it was fun. I got to narrated and drew, and it scratched the creative itch.
And for all my stories, this is the backdrop. None if my stories are about light vs darkness. It'll really get explained in the next video much better.

Your style is oniric, I still don't understand where the scenes take place, did they ever leave the palace?
Xavier Murphy
We have been in the throne room for about 50 pages. The rest have been flashbacks to a burning cellar and a shadowed courtyard. Otherwise, it's pretty much been in the same room. That said, I only recently committed to what certain things in the throne room looked like, so there are unambiguous continuity errors in the background details.
Eli Lopez
Also, I'd love to know what you mean by oniric. The internet isn't too helpful.
Jaxon Foster
figured out a good release schedule for my comic. alternating between 1 page and 2 page per week releases. so for example the first week of the month has 1 page release on Wednesday, then the following week has a page release on Tuesday and then another on Thursday. And then it loops. I'll try to keep a buffer just so i can keep the number of pages consistent.
apparently it's a 60s romanian literary movement... I think user is a spy
Colton Lee
That sounds smart to me. I like that kinda compromise.
Juan Perry
And that way I can be lazy one week and crunch the next week instead of just having crunch time every week for 2 pages. Plus, it helps move the story along faster.
Sebastian Kelly

For me, I just read the manga that I want to emulate. Figuring out how they compose panels as well as pacing by choosing what to show in what size and shape panels really help give you an idea of how to do it yourself.
Brody Diaz
here are the first 5 pages of Admiral pizza issue 5
I also study from comics/manga, and film. There are some issues from studying manga though, like reading from right to left, and their text is normally read vertically which also have some effect (more vertical panels, more text placed side-to-side as opposed to stacked). Dialogue, if you're in the western-speaking world and your audience is western-speaking, should read left to right, and follow a 'Z' pattern, finish one row, and then the next.
Attached in the Dresden Cloak I've highlighted some of the awkward panel. I didn't even realize there was two there. They're very cramped, especially with how the panels overlap one another so much. The scene does very little to help convey the story. In comparison to Lackadaisy Cats and Stand Still Stay Silent, motion and focus is conveyed well, it's not dense at all despite the level of detail.
You get feedback, I think that's the easiest way to improve. It's usually really easy to tell when the issue is awkward panels, poor word bubble placement, or poor composition (disregarding 'better composition'), and when you're first starting out it's just not intuitive. It helps to get feedback.
this is why planning ahead is worth the extra time. I know it sucks Of course no amount of planning solves the fact that there's just never enough space for what you really want to do

Got one of my friends to do this for me apart of Kaijune tag lately. Wish I got more of this kaiju project (still gotta name it) started by time KOTM released. Me and my artist on it are aiming to have at least a preview or first chapter done before Godzilla VS King Kong releases next year.
The time to do Kaiju stuff is now while the wave is still rolling.

Still been to lazy to post up the Kaju stuff I've got in my folders.
Hi, I have a question to submit to your opinion I do not know what to do.
I have a webcomics and in the last year I started to update only about once a month and in some of the last upodate some people complain that I have to do more updates etc. I point out, I have no patreon or other forms of earning so everything is free and I don't gain anything (unfortunately) but therefore I have no obligations with anyone. What should I do / what would you do?
1) Ignore all comments and continue as I wish.
2) Apologize for the few updates and give various explanations.
3) Tell them that if they want more updates they have to pay on patreon/other.
4) Other
I am for the 1) as I have always done to ignore and go on as I want,
What would you do?
Leo Foster
Depends how good your comic. If response is overwhelmly positive and people suck your dick saying how good your are go for the patreon. You need to have some time constraints because without them you will do shit that takes couple of days a month.
Anthony Carter
god this feels pretentious
Josiah Perry
Ignore the comments, or give some vague explanation that you're updating as often as you're able to. The truth is you don't owe anyone anything. Don't say that though. People are entitled and used to content creators sucking their dicks, so if you step out of line you'll be "that asshole artist".
Oliver Powell
1, if there is no money involved there is no obligation to anyone.
Anthony King
Sweaty, unwashed oni tits.
Bitches aint paying, bitches cant complain. Act like if they arent there. They wont drop your comic anyways.

ac120.tumblr.com/tagged/terminator_mom
This tag captures most of the safe for work material I have done on the subject that's been posted online. The comic itself is only about 10 pages, I think.
There were storyboards that goes into more details about 30 pages for the main story, and some lewds stuff maybe 3-4 pages, but they were not posted online.
I cannot find the lewd storyboard because I couldn't find it in old archives, it was before migrated to a new computer.
Don't copy, studying is better. You have to know why it works, if it does. It's like doing a math problem for the first time, if you just copy you'll only know how to do it for this one problem, but if you study then you can apply what you know to other problems.
And yeah, talk to people, a community to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of certain pages/comics, otherwise how will you know for certain just what works and what doesn't.
Blindly copying is how you get pages with trapezoid-like panels in moments of no tension. It's jarring, and disrupts the mood.
What are you using, and what settings are you using when you open a new canvas?
Thomas Edwards
Isn’t studying the same thing as copying
Jeremiah Campbell
Currently, I am using Autodesk Sketchbook.
Tyler Moore
You can copy when you study, as long as you aren't mindlessly going about it, I mean you won't get much out of it when you do that. The idea is to figure how and why it works, and what you prefer, so you can apply it to your own work.
If you can't decipher between studying and copying, you're probably just copying.
Liam Jackson
Most people work in 300 dpi. In height and width (respectively) you have a few options. A4 (8.5x11 in, printer paper) for print, ~3500x2500 pixels. A5 (about half the size of a printer paper) is 2480x1748 pixels
Hey everyone! The Power of Stardust is sharing banners with Destiny Oblivion. It's an interesting looking comic. If you liked the brief look at the Capeworld multiverse in The Power of Stardust you'll like the creation myth at the start of Destiny Oblivion. Go check them out through the banner!
>Alt Q: Everyone has their most loved tools/materials/software, but what are your most hated never again items? fucking huion tablets and GIMP. not that i'd ever use GIMP for working on my comic, but i still utterly fucking hate it from a general art standpoint
Logan Lopez
I forgot to mention, if you don't plan on printing and only want to post online, for tapas max width is 940px in width, height is arbitrary but for a regular page maybe like 1100px?
The art is cute! It's got that old school anime thing going on, I'm honestly a really big fan of it with the big eyes and big hair. Shots are varied between panels with balance the page well. There are a few things that could be improved, but generally don't disrupt the content of the page. And knowing that you work in Autodesk, I'm pretty impressed with what you manged to draw. Autodesk just looks so barebones.
Sebastian Walker
>fucking huion tablets Yeah this. I've been using a small one since 2013 and it constantly disconnects or randomly just disables the fucking tablet settings and I have to constantly reconnect it to get it to work again. Mason Smith
>45,864 creators on tapas do you ever worry about the sea of people we wade in?

Kayden King
I have received similar complaint. I thought it is a good opportunity to engage with the audience. Although since I wanted to give them a proper response, I tend to over think things. I ended up putting off for too long it might as well be ignoring them...
In general, my plan has been to not apologize, but also politely explain that due to my current work arrangement there are limited time spare time I can give attention to my personal projects and my other hobbies.
Ignoring them might alienate your audience, but I wouldn't recommend apologizing. Sadly that can give the impression that you OWE your audience something, even subconsciously, which can cause problems down the road. Best course of action is to be firm and vaguely explain the situation without creating a vent post or diary.
Post a page on the next chapter break and/or post somewhere on the website with something similar to this:
>Hi everyone, thanks for the continued readership of my comic >As you may have noticed, this comic has dropped it's (bi/weekly) schedule as of late which has started to bother some people. Sadly this is the best pace I can work on at the moment without putting the comic on an indefinite hiatus. >Unfortunately, because this comic doesn't contribute to my income or pay my rent while taking up a significantly large portion of my time it's gotten the lowest priority in my life right now so progress has come to a crawl. >I still plan on working on the comic for the foreseeable future, but my priorities at the moment lay in making sure I take care of myself. >If you want to contribute to my patreon/kofi/etc, it can go a long way in helping me get ahead and make more significant progress in the future. >I'll see you all in the next update
This will 1) Quietly call out the whiners, tell them 2) "I'm doing my best", 3) (vague explanation), 4) "Deal with it or I'll stop posting", 5) Give me money if you want more, all in a nice short but polite bundle.
Austin Richardson
>320x512 you are still doing it and you're going to get unreadable text again, stop it on top of that it looks that 1st and 3rd panel looks like you stretched the original sketch to fit the panel and it makes it look extremely unprofessional
you're warping the aspect ratio of some of your drawings. make sure you always hold shift when you resize things. If that doesn't lock the aspect ratio, get a new program. How anyone this good at drawing can be this bad at computer, I don't know. did you timetravel here from the 90s? That would explain your excellent art style
Austin Phillips

Been working on my art since last thread, killed two hours this morning making this, any tips?
you are definitely making progress. Remember what we talked about with making the lower part of the face stick out a bit? Of course it varies from person to person, but few people have their lips lined up flush with their foreheads
Adrian Long
Its been a while since I had character sheets. I really need to draw some updated version.
This is gorgeous! I love what you've done here; from the gorgeous art and color, to the excellent conveyance of the characters dynamics, I can assure you that this is a real treat to the eyes! Keep up the good work. :)

Well not as much as Ashi in a lot of the scenes of the final season of Samurai Jack, but more than you have here. Look at some facial profiles, or even better look at some skulls. The easiest guide is to have the nose come out from the face, but not take it all the way back in to where it started. Because noses are like that. If you chopped somebody's nose off, it would be more visible from above than below, if you get what I mean.
Nolan Lopez
Please don't offer advice if you have no idea what you're talking about. If you stop looking at shittily drawn animu for two seconds you might realize that real humans oftentimes don't have dog snouts.
>The easiest guide is to have the nose come out from the face, but not take it all the way back in to where it started. Because noses are like that. If you chopped somebody's nose off, it would be more visible from above than below, if you get what I mean. Thanks, this is practical advice.
Nathaniel James
Holy shit that is one flat face. and a neck that gets thicker toward the top look, some real life people are poorly drawn. doesn't change the fact that the people in have a gap below their nose that's parallel to the front of their eyes. Even this li'l debutante doesn't have that.
Adrian Bell
what source material do i have to read to understand whats happening in this?

>look, some real life people are poorly drawn Nibba that's just what a real human woman looks like. Even the pros recognize it, you just have no idea what real humans look like Pull your head out of your ass, CF, and stop giving shitty advice. You're only gonna cripple beginning artists with your autism.
See how this diagram supports what I was saying? I hope you do, because you posted it.
Wyatt Gray
Yes, there is a few pixel difference between the forehead and the upper lip. That doesn't mean the lip"juts out" in this picture, nor does that not mean it's perfectly normal for people to have flat faces, and it's about the same as the profiles in OP's art, ignoring their other anatomical mistakes. If you're going to give awful advice at least either do redlines or turn your trip on.You are honestly one of the most damaging people in these threads because you refuse to acknowledge you don't know what the hell you're talking about. You're taking beginners and misinforming them while acting like you're some sort of guru, and stunting them artistically.
Carson Taylor
I was talking primarily about the nose, if you'll look again and actually read it. Chin jutting varies tremendously. Please stop being upset about things that are right. If you can do a better job, please do.
Owen Robinson
>it's about the same as the profiles in OP's art not even close.
James Cruz
your pages are square?
Adam James
Judging by the way the panel goes offscreen, I think that's a cropped image. Not that there's anything wrong with square comics, of course...

>tfw I finally figured out how to do translucent windows.
I feel fucking retarded because i did everything but mess with opacity. But hey now i can do cool cockpit scenes.
Should have a 4 page update tomorrow. I intend on doing larger updates every sunday, but I will be out of town this weekend, so I busted my ass to get something out before i leave friday. I want to glance at my phone for comments all weekend.
Are copic markers or CSP+Wacom Tablet worth the large price? I have almost zero experience with a tablet, and I rarely use color. So, I'm hesitant to drop that much money on it. I don't like color at all, and it takes forever. My main goal is to be able to sketch humans, and tell stories through a single drawing.
I personally don't know, I've only been drawing for less than a year. Not much of an excuse, but I'm still mostly shit and I'm still not satisfied with my drawings. I can at least do studies of simplified work, but nothing that's really detailed.
Pic related is a quick doodle of Dee, along with designs of the twin's snakes. I also rewrote Bonnie's bio better along with everyone else.
it depends. if you're going to do physical media, no markers blend as nicely as copics. you're paying for the crazy chemicals involved or whatever substances make it work. Probably the oily secretions of some animal. if you're doing digital, then clipstudio is absolutely worth the price (especially on sale, which is very often) and ... wacom? nah, but chinese slave labor tablet, sure.
However, it sounds like you'd like an excuse not to do any of those, and it's not hard to give one. You're not quite there yet. Might as well keep practicing first. Keep working on those fundamentals and you'll be so much better that it'll seem way more worth paying for.
Jose Russell
That's true enough. Although I never felt needing to draw FMA fan art is because I like them a lot, and I don't feel like the subject is missing something that I needed to fill it with fan art, if that make sense. Like there are certain relationship that I wanted to see, or situation I wanted to see in fan art form. I think they are just fine the way it is.
A lot of time I do fan art is because I felt like something I like aspect of, but is missing something that I couldn't get from the source material, or if I really want to see porn of it but I couldn't find someone else who have drawn it. I never really feel a strong need to do that with Fullmetal Alchemist for some reason.
I don't understand being Asian has to do with anything. What's "GMI memegens"?
Funny how that works with fanart. I know I feel similarly in my old age, rarely drawing fanart if I feel there's nothing to add to or improve on. Used to be the opposite
I think that's "gonna-make-it meme-genes" but not sure. and it's nowt to do with being physically asian, but, as we've discussed, to do with the asian CULTURE. which pushes excellence, competence, and independence from a young age and cultivates a higher class of people, at the cost of pleasure, identity, and self-determination.
Jacob Cook
It didn't come out nearly as well as it looked in my head, but in the final analysis, I'm very pleased with what I managed to make, here. The painting lineart, at the very least, looks great to me. The female form gets more beautiful every time, baby.
look i you CAN buy a tablet, its is worth its price you can use every color and media virtualy free, plus hacks an tricks like stabilisator etc also you can use all the references of internet easy and free etc take a look at /ic/ from books and tips about digital drawing and color (dont let they crab you!) also i habe a Wacon intuos (the small one) and is ok
Well, when I was younger I do just like to draw stuff I like. Although now I do have my own project that I'd prefer to work on, so I only draw fanart if I have an additional interest in it somehow, and sometimes it means going the extra step of creating a reason to do it.
Geez, that's kind of a deep cut /ic/. Although I honestly don't believed in that particular meme.
Aw, I am flattered. I am glad you enjoyed it. Aw man, i wanted to bring this character out so bad. She is really badass, but I needed an interest story beat for her.
Tomorrow ends Romance! the first story of Continental breakfast! I decided to dump it all so people can binge the ending! there are six new pages for now and three more tomorrow! tapas.io/episode/1441252
I love the style in your comic. Looks comfy (Also forgot to add my name in previous post, yikes)

Working on a comic about a third generation Americanized Nigerian American girl named Ade Abayomi; who having lost touch with her roots is sent away to a African inspired land called Aye by a Shamen she insulted. The land of Aye is filled with Animal humaniods. she's found by one named Dan who at first intends to sell off as a rare unseen creature but after she helps him slay a drought causing serphant he keeps her as his page.
Thanks for the answers, even though now I'm maybe more confused about what to do.
I believe that for now I ignore the thing for 1-2 updates and I see how the thing develops, if the thing continues/increases in the successive updates I say something taking cue from and the other similar suggestions of explanations and I will see what happens.
thank you all.

Okay I need advice. I'm dogshit at art, so I'm stumped. How do I make the hair of pic related better. And by better I mean "how the hell do I make it work in 3d space?!" Like I'm this close to changing it completely because while it looks okay on a simple angle like this, I quickly realized the way I draw it just doesn't work in 3d space. halp!
Guess what finally went on sale? Clip studio now available for half price, even upgrades are now 1/2 off, for the next 5 days If you've been waiting for that $25 deal, now's the time Or keep using free software. What do I care, I'm not paid for this
Check the website for a full rundown of differences, but if you want to get serious with making comics for print, then invest in EX for the multi-page management features.
Otherwise Pro is fine if you don't mind working one page at a time.
Logan James
Ex has a few extra features, while pro is the more basic one-size-fits-all
Ex has/does -unlimited animation frames (pro has 24 frames -Multiple page management -Printing export and preview for multi pages -LT conversion options (turn images and 3d models to lineart) -Multi view for 3D models
It's unlikely you'll ever miss anything if you stick to the cheaper pro version. Maybe in the future they'll make the differences more significant, but as an EX user my suggestion is to stick to Pro if you haven't already been using those features.
Josiah Flores
Everyone here deserves it
Jason Evans
Is it easy to install brushes in Pro? It takes me forever to install in SAI and I often can’t even use them then.
Zachary Young
>Is it easy to install brushes in Pro? Pro and Ex install brushes the same, but yeah it's incredibly easy. If you download brushes from the assets site you'll just need to drag and drop it from the downloads material folder in csp to the active brush toolbar, or select "import sub tool from material" from the brush palette and select the desired brush.
Brushes downloaded from anywhere else can literally be dragged and dropped from your download folder to the open palette.
Thomas Ward
Speaking of CSP brushes, has anyone here made one and want to share or have a recommended one from the assets store?
Cooper Ramirez
Looking at other peoples' good art should make you want to get better. Turn that anger into ambition!
That sounds kinda cool look at things like tentacles and ribbons from different angles. Also nevermind the 3d aspect, even in 2d work on keeping the tapering of the hair locks more gradual instead of fatter then thinner then fatter again
Wyatt Miller
>one page at a time. so the actual features like creating panels or whatever, those are locked to one open document at a time? Guess it's a good thing i don't use those.
Luke Edwards
Latest page. If the kind proofreader user its here or any proofreader id be happy to know if what I wrote makes sense. Thanks in advance.
finally want to start my website. pretty much have it all ready except for an actual website. >Dos and Don'ts for starting a site: pastebin.com/kNR2W5mV is this guide recommending I use s3 to create the website? im confused. Does anyone have a guide or direction to point me
Cameron Green
the 'it' is a replacement word for the subject, so if you've already said the subject (suffering) you don't have to repeat 'it' it's okay though, that's a classic bit of latin-language-root engrish because that's often acceptable there. also, if you add a comma before it's (you would want an apostrophe here if it WAS correct) then it's LESS wrong. That makes the early part of the sentence an establishing clause. still ungrammatical, but at least has the right flow, and is how a lot of people talk, because they're still collecting their thoughts.
Zachary Davis
I've used previous versions of Manga Studio, and went straight to EX with this edition, so I'm not sure how Pro operates exactly. When I say you'll be working one page at a time, I imagine you'll have to be opening each page file individually, rather than seeing all pages laid out in order in the Page Manager and being able them as you choose.
Blake King
>practicing art What shitty fucking artist has to do this

oh I see, yeah. that might be more convenient to be able to do. I'm happy to just switch back and forth between image files.

Its /g/ where I'm told to build it from the ground up, host my own email, and use nothing Google if I want help. Cant someone just tell me what tools most of these basic web comics are hosted with?
Brayden Phillips
Well, sounds like you don't want any help and just want someone else to do it for you.

No, it sounds like he wants step by step instructions It's not that simple. But it's not hard or complicated, and there really is no wrong way.

Here's a delicious image for the rest of you that don't fit that faggot bitch description
My god damn sides While we're working on a lot of stuff with your art, do you have a program with any kind of ruler tool, or can you at least make straight lines on a layer underneath to use as a guide? I see so many little things that would look way nicer if the lines were straight and oriented properly
Jose Mitchell
Im using clip studio. Im not sure if it has something like that. Im sure it does but i have no idea how to use it.
Sometimes i cheat with the line tool, but it looks really shitty and 'fake' I guess. I'd rather it look shitty and genuine.
Adrian Green
Not only does clipstudio have one, it has a great one. and it's extremely confusing to use, you'll have to practice a lot, but it's great. the perspective ruler.

Best way to create comics with an iPad? Procreate? Idk. Prefer analogue and will continue there but I usually scan and touch up in that app. Seems bare bones. What's better or do I just suck at using it?
Dominic Perez
DO YOU THINK ITS OVER ITS NEVER OVER
Anyone knows good fonts for people who are crying?
For ipad people do suggest procreate or CSP. I don't know about the former, but the latter gives you 6 months free or so for a trial if you want to check it out. Medibang and autodesk sketchbook are also available for ipad, I've used them on android and they're ok
>Anyone knows good fonts for people who are crying? I don't think I've seen one used outside of those old drama newspaper comics. Drippy and wobbly word balloons using the usual font seems to be the norm, with the occasional partially erased look for effect.
John Jones
is it possible to convey red hair with black ink?
Jason Gomez
Pure black and white, probably not very well without crosshatching but it'd be easily mistaken for light brown hair.
If you are going to add greyscale or tones you would outline it like blond hair and fill it with greytone of the 20-35% range in the darker shaded areas and keep the lit areas at a lower % or go white but that depends on how limited your palette is.
Final page! Romance is over, I'll soon post the name of the next short story! Also if anyone read I'd like to know if the story was clear if it wasnt too confusing! thankss for reading tapas.io/episode/1441921
Pretty hard to read the big double spread page. I realize you put the smaller versions under it, but perhaps those should come first. on the other hand, the broken up version doesn't read in the right order. Fucking tapas. This is good shit. So... she's a robut?
wow co/ was down for a sec. Legit thought that janny post was gonna be gone when it came back up. Anyway ew drama. Here's a phone photo of a new character
I saw that you made it as an update to your first set of pages however. Unless I'm wrong, and I could be, but I think it is usually better to post new pages as a separate episode. That way it will appear on the Fresh section for others to discover easier, as well as show up as a new update to subscribers rather than a general notification (which is easy to skip past for some people).
Matthew Green
I said this a thread or two ago, but it looks like tapas is now giving you a different notification if an old episode gets updated, so that isn't a problem anymore
Jordan Hill
Go to bed, Roadie.
Charles Russell
It does give subscribers a notification still, but I don't think it shows up as a new update on discover, which would likely limit views if I'm understanding it correctly.

yeah, but I have my chapters planned out very concisely and i kinda want my episodes to line up with them. I've been trying to catch up on everyone's comics. I got a big backlog.
Liam Gray
About to release a horror comic. Just need to do some tweaking, but honestly I am very happy with the results so far.
Lettering could do with a little more refinement. Comic lettering is usually centre-aligned, not left justified. Rearrange where the line breaks are, so the text fits the shape of the balloon more evenly, and doesn't run up against some edges while leaving gaps along others. Plan text and balloon shape at the same time, so you're not forcing one to accomodate the other.

>Alt Q: Everyone has their most loved tools/materials/software, but what are your most hated never again items? Not so much hate, just concluded they didn't serve my needs and put aside different Wacom drawing tablets, a Microsoft Surface tablet PC, and Krita.
I use an old version of GIMP, hacked to behave like an even older one. It's backwards but fits my work patterns.
Part of practicing is learning what to do and what not to do. If you aren't improving there's some kind of disconnect somewhere. Post art so someone can give you critique and get you on the right path.
I am also still working on another comic called 'BITE' with a new team. After the ashcan we're getting ready for SVCC is done I'll storytime it here on Yea Forums to help gauge interest. As far as it's been shown (my artist on it recently had his portfolio displayed to an audience at a con and hands were going up when this cover came up) there is some interest coming for it.
Congrats! Now make sure you work on getting through year two

>you need to makes the feathers look more feathery, maybe a crown? I like the wing idea since they're pretty cute and fit with the original Quetzalcoatl's description of being able to fly. I'm changing this snake's name to "Coatl" since it means "serpent" and "twin" and thought it would be a better fit. Don't know if the name still sounds as cute as "Cleo" for "Cleopatra". The cobra is named Samuel or Sammy. >your characters are cute and funny! Thanks, I tried to aim for this! >tog test What does this mean?
Dominic Phillips
getting ready to start releasing this thing in July.
I'm interested. What kind of setting did you have in mind? Is the world similar to ours or completely different?
Jack Morales
high fantasy world with different races and such. high fantasy because of an in-universe event that permanently twisted and altered the world and kept society in a pseudo-medievel state. setting is influenced by Chrono Trigger.
Lincoln White
have you been following my threads user?
Charles Price
I never played that
Gavin Anderson
i have not. ah. it's basically medieval but there's some technology present.
Nathan Price
I really need to get a move on because I am thinking about making her Rococo's Majima if she were kiryu from Yakuza. Now how do I make 5 pages a week...
setting is similar to what said, humans own a giantic space empire in the far future, it is very imperialistic and each planet under their control is ruled by an emperor, it is a story with a ton of deep lore
basically a bunch of transhumanists who were in a cult tried to bring back people who shouldve stayed dead with medieval cyberpunk tech, it backfired though and started a zombie apocalypse
the story takes place in outer space because earth doesnt exist anymore, it had to be nuked because it was overrun by zombies, there was no saving it, humans had to colonize other planets and mate with the natives there to preserve their species
humans had to give up their bodies for robot ones in order to survive the apocalypse, they got these robot bodies from this highly intelligent race of vultures, the vultures were the ones who originally owned the empire but the humans overthrew them and nearly wiped out the vulture's entire raced by weaponizing the virus
the reason humans betrayed the vulture people is because they were severely crippled by the apocalypse and wanted to regain power, plus earth was now inhospitable due to the virus (earth was erased from the galaxy shortly after the humans took over btw)
nowadays in the far future the universe is highly commercialized, robot bodies are very expensive so not a lot of people can afford them, they are expensive because the funds go toward the military, humans have re-engineered the original virus into several viruses and sell them to other alien species under the guise that it is some kind of miracle potion, they do this strategically so they can weaken the other race by infecting them in order to take over their planet
humas are oppressive space dictators who have enslaved hundreds of alien races and use the virus as a way of maintaining control over them
also the main plotline is about a human guy who is sent on a suicide mission to save a little girl who is key to curing the virus as she is immune, however most humans do not want a cure to be discovered as they profit a lot from the chemical wars they start with other alien races, the humans have started an biomedical engineering society where they develop deadly viruses to sell to alien races which tend to have disastrous side effects
the little girl who is immune to the virus was also a set up by the main villain, who is one of her daughters
Logan Morris
Gimme your discord handle
Eli Hill
more about the little girl, her mother (who is the main villain) eventually kills her and its one of driving forces for the heroes to defeat her before she wipe out the rest of the human race, because the heroes had grown so attached to the little girl

>fix your twitter links that's just my pinned tweet the link on the side is the real link. Id change it if you could edit tweets. guess I should just change my pinned tweet then.
>guess I should just change my pinned tweet then. Yeah, that would be good. On twitter you need to keep those pinned tweets current, especially if you use it to advertise your stuff.
Yeah, I need to find a new site to post these on. Or maybe make my own site? I dunno.
Cooper Hughes
>Or maybe make my own site? I dunno. Since it costs money to buy the domain and server space it might be better to just find an additional host to post on for the moment. Maybe try webtoon or smackjeeves? I believe those allow mature content to be viewed without logins.
I'm afraid those look like neither, they're irregular, scalloped lines that fit entirely within a smooth silhouette. The two best ways to depict feathers in a cartoony style are A) basically the same as fur, but replace 'pointy bits coming off' with 'round-ended bits' or B) approximately like leaves (more work, but gives the impression that the feathers have transitioned from scales). Similar to what you've done here, but more regular, and coming off of the body Look at some bird pokemon or any other simplified birds you like.
Evan Roberts
Alright, so practice hands and do better with the pacing in the next comic. Sounds good so far. Anything else?
Logan Williams
What are some horror comics you are trying to be like?
Eh, I mean, honestly I'm trying to be me when it comes to horror. I am a huge fan of Harlan Ellison's I have no mouth and I must scream, I really like Neil Gaiman, Cary Fukunaga I think is one of the bigger inspirations to me. As far as visuals go? I've always been a fan of the old school Marvel Style (Square Jaws and features, etc.), and I'm a big fan of the visuals and gore used in the Manga Series Death Tube and I'm even a fan of the body horror of Junji Ito (as predictably and pretentious as that sounds) But I hesitate to say that I want to be "like someone elses webcomic/horror comic" because if I just wanted to be someone else, then why don't potential readers just go to them?
Jayden Collins
>But I hesitate to say that I want to be "like someone elses webcomic/horror comic" It's entirely okay to say that user. Most people will pitch something by using the exact words "It's similar to this and this with [show/movie/comic]."
Ian Brown
yeah I think it's important to distinguish between 'reminiscent of', 'similar to', and 'exactly like'
Anthony Torres
I mean... I just always assumed that was because studio executives are morons. But now I see what you mean. I guess if I where to pitch the comic, then I would say "It's like True Detective meets Mindhunter."
Connor Green
Bump.
Josiah Nguyen
I'm bored, so I'm going to write out the character bios. >Character Bios Characters: Dee "Jinny", Janey, Bonnie Cavendish, Coatl (M), Samuel (M)
Dee's dominant personality traits are her gullible and theatrical attitude. After being trapped in a ring for a millennia with just her sister, Dee loves any attention she can get. Dee is quick to put on a performance for any potential master, but is distraught when they only want the wish. She is a skilled cook, and often uses her magic cloud to transform into cooking tools. She does not like to be tricked, and will retaliate if she realizes she has been.
Janey is vain and a klutz. Despite this, she has honed her skills in playing cards, and is quite skilled with her hands. With her card magic, she can create or mimic anything with them, but has a penchant for books and comics (things that she loves). Having spent a millennia alone with Dee, Janey will play anyone she comes across and will bet wishes. Her vanity will often get the best of her, making her get mad when someone chooses to ignore her. Her klutz attitude makes her lose sometimes, but she can't help it. She has a gambling addiction.
Bonnie Cavendish is short-tempered and has a lust for fortune. She is quick to follow solutions with treasure ahead, and seldom spends any less than she has to. Things tend to go wrong for Bonnie because of her greed, but she continues to sail the world. Bonnie was the twin's first master, and her wish for immortality was granted through a card game. Janey, who was still mad, granted the wish but made it so her youth was attached to a magic hat that changes color based on mood. Her longevity made them close friends, who Bonnie brave the storm for. She is skilled in sailing and swordsmanship, but fairly weak in everything else. She routinely tricks the snakes to fetch gold for her. She loves rum and gold.
>Coatl, Samuel Coatl, a feathered-wing snake, and Samuel, a pink-spotted King Cobra, are the twin's familars. Selfish and power hungry, they are often scheming ways to get the twin's powers or Bonnie's gold. The are very sensitive, fun, loyal, and have a soft-side for the twins. Whenever they get caught scheming, they gasp "GEH!?" Acting as familiars, the snakes can summon the twins to their location, can talk, and can use limited magic on others (twins can use magic on themselves and the snakes, but only wishes for others). Their longevity, magic, and their association with Bonnie made them legends of the seas. They were originally bought at a pet shop, because the twins felt lonely, and their bond to the ring/lamp transformed the snakes plain bodies to handle magic. They hate apples. Do not mention or show apples.

how do you guys write? in a notebook? on notepad? or just pictures? i'm having troubles on how to actually write things down.
What do you mean? Its not forbidden, tho there are certain things I don't like, I won't stop you.
I mean, she is 4 feet 7 inches tall, although she also D cup, 1xx years old and 148 lbs of muscle and literal steel. She seen her share of action from time to times.
>How about grayscale? Greyscale fits your art better and makes the lineart pop nicely
All of the above. I have a pocket notebook for quick ideas, a regular notebook for more fleshing out, notepad for quick notes and scene writing on the computer, and of course I have to sketch things out in my sketchbooks with notes scribbled along the edges.
I'm slowly putting the things that are more complete on my google docs, though. Plus a backup elsewhere.

Evan Garcia
How the fuck do you draw panel one in this?

Well, I look forward to see what you come up with.
Yeah, I thought screen tones can provide a much needed texture, but it never turn out good, its always look too obnoxious for some reason.
I don't recommend doing this because this is like a month worth of work, but I don't know if the pay off is sufficient to warrant it. Its only one panel in grand scheme of things, and I think being able to tell a coherent story in a timely manner is far more important. There are a lot of details that I don't think its something people can actually see when I output it into final image, its just one of my wild tangents when working on this comic.
? so people just draw their female character bullying another female character?
Nathaniel Smith
How do you make up names, especially foreign like japanese?
Jace Hughes
They draw their character defeating the other with a submission hold.
Nathaniel Miller
Also, how do you make up sound effects?
Evan Kelly
If it's real-world based names it's easier just to find a name list or look up credits for movies, tv show, authors, etc from the language you want and then mix and match those names. You can try and learn the rules of those languages, but there's such a high chance of making up gibberish or something derogatory (or worse) when you don't know the language itself. Authenticity can go a long way.
It's onomatopoeia, you spell it the best way you can to mimic the sound. Reading comics and making notes of their sfx might help, too.
When you do screen tones, are you doing it before or after you resize? I downloaded your greyscale image and increased the size, then used the layer property to turn it to screen tone and it didn't look nearly as dithered (?) as your toned version.
I see a lot of media with dick head protags get shit on a lot and i wanted your guy's opinion on them. Because my comic has changed to have a hot headed older brother as the lead from the stupidly brave little bro. manly because all the villains and themes are a greater spoil with the big brother
Asher Moore
It's okay as long as they have redeeming positive qualities that still make them likable despite their dick nature
Robert Perry
This. I use principle of counterweight. If the character is an asshole he absolutely needs redeeming qualities that would make sense. Without redeeming qualities you would have nu marvel tier "heroes". If the character is very strong to the point of being op give him crippling flaw.
Kevin Gonzalez
I think she needs a more 'flawed' name if she's like that. I prefer harmless sarcasm but with a deeper love for people underneath. Yuri Lowell is probably the best jerk protag ever written.
Jonathan Adams
When is the next one?
Robert Hughes
you smash one (1) baby and suddenly whooaaah, you are just puuuure evil, come on.
as a side note, lately I have felt my comic is ridiculously predictable. Hope that doesnt ruin the readers experience too much.
Jose Gonzalez
>he never read shonen
Jaxson Lopez
Once you realize stories can only end with a good ending, a bad ending, or a cop out non-ending, you realize ALL stories are predictable.
Plus the part where you've been sitting with your story for a long time and it clouds your judgement, while your readers are reading it for the first time with each update
Jayden Rogers
How detailed do storyboards have to be so that it can be acceptable?
Lucas Ward
>lately I have felt my comic is ridiculously predictable.

far point, though I want my story to be a little bit better than that
i thought about this too, that said, it still doesnt charge than in some stories its easy to deduce what the argument will lead to and in others not so much.
Its true that it might be that I thought about it too much too.
They will live and travel together for ten years more.
Im never an expert, but I feel storyboards should be comfortable for the author. There is nothing specific. If it works for you, then ir works. Mine are small squares with scribbles and a general description of whats happening and the dialogues. Any other person than me wouldnt get what they mean.
Unfortunately, this. your art is good enough though. It's just... people at your level don't advertise in places like this, where people are more liable to spend 20 bucks on something done by someone at my level... or mostly, since we're mostly artists, we do it ourselves.

>relax I can't, every time she coughs I'm reminded of her mortality and I'm worried/anxious again. I try to learn faster but I'm fucking stupid so even practicing daily with a hard drive full of videos/tutorials my art is still cringey.
She might have an iota of pride just because I'm a functioning adult, but probably not that much. I just want her to see before she goes that the retard she pooped out is good for something beyond giving her gray hairs.
Can't say, I don't want to be known as that fag crying about his mom. I don't know what kind of answer I expected, but I felt the need to post something so someone out there knows what I'm feeling so I feel less alone.
Jose Walker
>I don't want to be known as that fag crying about his mom. posting sad cat meme makes it hard to imagine youre taking anything seriously. I'm willing to accept that was just an error
Logan Hill
implying moms can tell good art from bad. she thinks you're already rembrandt. you literally can't make her any more proud than you already have. It's perpetually maxed out.
Chase Brooks
To be honest user, it sounds like you need to talk to a professional about your mental health. Not saying that as a put down, but you sound like you are literally so anxious, depressed, and self degrading that you're pushing yourself into a hole that's only going to get worse if you don't address it and it's very concerning.
If nothing else consider talking to someone now so that your mom won't have to worry about you after she's gone in what is hopefully the distant future. You know that'll upset her more than finding out your comic didn't become the next hottest thing, she didn't raise you to quite when things didn't turn out the way you hoped.
Robert Perez
It's much clearer with that swirling motion.
Brayden Gray
>literally so anxious, depressed, and self degrading that you're pushing yourself into a hole that's only going to get worse if you don't address it and it's very concerning. Psychiatry is just mumbo jumbo
Jacob Howard
Yeah, i think ill try to fix it when i do the next general revision for my comic. The brush i used makes it look like markings on the tree behind her and not energy swirls/sparkles of teleportation.
can't stop seeing everything in my slice of life comic idea (where everyone lives a nice upper middle class lifestyle) through the lens of the resentment that comes from the low income background i'm trying to use the comic as escapism from. impossibly caught between the desire to have nice things, and a consciousness of the obscenity of swathes of people never actually having them.
i don't even want to be political about it, i just can't blind myself to my own life.
Jaxon Gutierrez
I love your visuals! these always communicate something
another page! somebody can tell me if it´s funny?I'm bad at judging myself
you're clearly an amateur at escapism. you've gotta exercise your ability to fantasize, and leave the real world behind so hard it forgets you ever existed. Bury yourself in that fantasy, live in it.
John Anderson
first koma is amusing, although stories about losers just scare me so i get too anxious about my own future to laugh
Jordan Hughes
it's supposed to be funny? I thought it was supposed to be sad
Lincoln Reyes
examples?
Colton King
>examples? I dunno, you just do it. I practiced my entire life, maybe it takes time. You must have a lot of media you enjoy. Just watch it all day erry day, or whenever you're sad.
Colton Clark
Maybe it's a little sad but its a set-up! it gets more fun on some pages in, when Pat tries to get weird jobs and other characters appear
Charles Adams
well no problem then. the yonkoma format isn't usually used to set up a story that develops.
not really scary as much as mysterious but way more straight forward then rhe last one
Thomas Davis
My biggest fear as a webcomic artist is to one day get noticed for all the wrong reasons, and then become a lolcow because it all goes to my head.
Gavin Brown
Based Julia Holter
Joshua Smith
>already got ridiculed and laughed at as an artist before being a professional >feels awful >look at beautiful art that I can't even copy yet Damn it.
Jack Bennett
then maybe you shouldn't be making a comic about escapism or slice of life use that energy to actually make something meaningful
Levi Torres
or maybe it could be meaningful to do a comic that shows HOW these people got to their nice position and how possible it is, and show them helping the ones who didn't get that far.
Thomas Wilson
anything non slice of life is to hard
Nathan Flores
any help?
Cooper Anderson
My Newest page of Admiral Pizza. Do you have any problems reading the text? I made my own hand written font, it was fun to write it all but after 10 plus years it wasn't anymore. It saved me alot of time!
I switched programs because Autodesk Sketchbook keeps glitching out on my android drawing tablet. I have no idea what's wrong with it, but I'm tired of having to restart my tablet when I'm in the zone. Does anyone know anything about Ibis Paint? I think I've got it down.
Look more like protagonist's bodyguard or something.
Gavin Scott
He looks like a cross between some kind of sentai character and something from a Heist-like game.
To be honest it's hard to gauge a character design being "protagonist" looking or not without seeing the accompanying designs for the rest of the cast or the setting.
Josiah Richardson
The design itself looks good. I don't think there's a definitive "protagonist" look other than having to look even remotely interesting, I don't think a lot of people without any prior knowledge of Hellboy would look at him and think he was the main protagonist instead of a villain. It all depends on the context.
Matthew Baker
I like this design. The fact that it doesnt look like a protagonist makes it even better.
Zachary White
I think I got it right, I put the emphasis on Real job, because the joke is that he's a cartoonist, and that's not a real job
>Does anyone know anything about Ibis Paint? I recently learned about it when Celsys posted something about Ibis and Clip studio having some kind of partnership and the Japanese side of twitter was going nuts over it. That's pretty much it.
