>big character dies >oh shit >one year later >jk lol
What's the point of comics? It's either superheroes retelling the same story or some artsy incoherent nonsense driven by leftist activism but this time it's bad art. Where are the good comics? Genuine question.
The point of comics is to create a setting and story to disguise what is basically porn for kids.
Jaxson Bell
Why do you care then?
Jeremiah King
You read to see the big characters die?
Parker Hughes
No but I expect a sense of finality and commitment.
Julian Cox
Well ok if it floats your boat... you must have loved the last Avengers movie.
James Robinson
You read for spectacule not substance.
Josiah Jones
go read Image or something if you want closure
Joseph Anderson
This kind of images made me gay during my childhood
Christopher Cruz
Do you like movies about gladiators?
Benjamin Reyes
I watched 300 at 11 yo
Jason Cruz
Congrats you experienced the worst part of the capeshit genre. You can either continue or stick to indies, which have their own retarded problems despite having an ending most of the time.
James King
>No but I expect a sense of finality and commitment. You're in the wrong fucking place then.
Gavin Perry
stop reading mainstream capeshit then mong
Logan Gray
Literally one of the main reasons why I don't read regular runs and pretty much always stick to contained stories or limited runs with pretty closed endings >Sandman >Hellboy >TDKR >Watchmen I'm not sure whether those are so famous because they are self-contained or (semi-)limited but I really think that's part of the reason why even normies tend to read those more. In regular comic runs of the big 2, nothing lasts forever which really takes out the stakes of any event
Asher Harris
>Decades spanning serialized medium >finality We don't take kindly to brainlets in here.
Joseph Nguyen
what are you even talking about? the guy is completely right because they could literally make another universe and give a new take on the same characters and just do whatever the fuck they want. meanwhile, all they want to do is multiverse shit while desperately holding on to the characters Marvel's Ultimate formula was pretty great even if the execution was often wrong. Just make a new universe and do something fun with it
David Barnes
You sound like a retarded hick. Leftist activism lmao I wish Paying lip service to women and minorities isn't actually leftism Cletus
Isaac Sanders
>Make new character >It's shit >One year later >Bring back the old character
Lincoln Kelly
>Marvel's Ultimate formula was pretty great even if the execution was often wrong You mean 90% of the time? The only things that most people agree were good in the ultimate universe were Spider-Man before Miles and Ultimates 1 and 2.
>Just make a new universe and do something fun with it They already did and it crashed and burned, hard. Why would they make a new one when it's not even been 5 years since they got rid of the last one?
Juan Hill
They're not gladiators.
Adam Walker
>even normies tend to read those more They don't.
John Howard
Kill yourself faggot.
Grayson Morris
>The only things that most people agree were good in the ultimate universe were Spider-Man before Miles and Ultimates 1 and 2 I remember Spider-Man being great, yeah. That's a lot more than other runs have to offer. Also, what was bad about X-Men? I remember having fun reading it, even if some of the characters' motivations were really weird
Landon Anderson
Hela wants Titan dick
Liam Price
Big characters return all the time in your Chinese colouring books too user.
I only read Ultimate Spider-man until Peter """died""" and Ultimatum so I can't say why X-men was bad, I was just saying that only a couple of books are fondly remembered when talking about the Ultimate universe so Marvel doesn't have the best track record when it comes to making alt universes, at least recently.
It's exactly the fucking same, it's just that instead of having multiple writers on the same book you have editorial demanding that the character comes back.
Tyler King
They all change from villains to anti-heroes/protagonists. Jez. What quality character development. many shonen derivatives also fall victim
Carson Perez
>all the time Not really
Julian Bennett
it really is the same for the most manga out there. of course there's also some stories where the characters are at least expanded on but still, same problem more or less
my point stands, a run doesn't have to have ONLY goat-tier runs as long as they at least try something different with actual stakes
Dominic Long
>all chinese basket funny books are shonen
Jordan Long
>>my point stands, a run doesn't have to have ONLY goat-tier runs as long as they at least try something different with actual stakes The problem is making a new universe to make new, long running books because sooner or later they're going to run into the same problems as the main universe. As long as they're are part of a mini-series or standalone stories I think that most of the issues that the Big 2 have can be avoided.
Colton Murphy
only the best
Jeremiah Anderson
Well then OP, you're in for a real treat this Wed. I've read #6, and it's nothing at all like what #5 would have you believe.
Adam Hernandez
That's a dumb comparison and you know it. There was no 'finality' to that movie because we knew ahead of time it was a two-parter.
Lincoln White
creatively bankrupt racoons have been running the big 2 for years now
Jeremiah Lee
Thanos wishes Death would show him commitment
Aiden Peterson
I had the same reaction with Cap after Civil War user. This is how you learn that the big 2 don't deserve you money.
Christian Lopez
Face it manga is going to become more and more like US comics as the years go on
Jason Parker
Actual normies don't read comics(or anything else)
>most manga Absolutely not. Maybe if your only exposure to it is shit like DBZ and Naruto. Even fucking one piece actually kills characters and leaves them dead
Austin Cruz
The real Captain Marvel has been dead for like 20 years.
Have you read the original alpha flight? that was a good comic, people died and mostly stayed dead and actions had consequences. You are the brainlet here user, if there are no stakes why even read the comic?
Zachary Williams
This is the real reason comics are dying off. kids get fap bait right off the internet, they don't need to make due with jerking it to skintight spandex tittys any more.
Manga's just as bad. Literally any series that goes on for more than 50 chapters ends up contradicting and undoing things previously done. The problem is that there's a clear narrative at the start and then when they get to that conclusion there's two outcomes: Either it ends as it should or it keeps going and the mangaka realizes they painted themselves into a corner or haven't developed a future story arc. The latter happens all the time. The ones that do end turn out to have lackluster or rushed endings.
Isaac Cox
no it fucking isn't it's barbaric to say the least and it's borderline pedophiliac of you to defend it
Nathaniel Hall
Wait, I thought this was a thread to shit on Cates' "storytelling". Alright, let me just vent a bit. See OP, the issue to me isn't that he comes back (because part of the deal with Thanos is that he worships Death but his own never sticks, because he's supposed to be an Avatar of it), it's that Cates is such a huge hack that he's unable to write anything Cosmic without retreading the shit he's done before with his OCs, or reusing the few villains he prefers. Since his "Thanos Wins" arc was so well received by casuals, obviously he's going to start his GOTG series with Thanos again! Let's ignore the point of him dying in Infinity Wars was so he could torment Gamora and drive her to her ruin.
But this is obviously from the guy who wrote this overpowered Gary Stu amalgam of a character, who apparently IS stronger than Thanos too, he's just "holding back" all the time. And don't forget, he was the one who taught Thanos how to fight as a baby, no, not an alt-universe version of it, no, 616 version, in the past! Because Cates knows how time travel works in Marvel...
In case I wasn't clear, I'm talking about Cosmic Ghost Rider, another one of his dumb creations and one I'm convinced it's Cates' own self-insert. There's some scenes in the current GOTG where he basically acts as nonchalantly as Cates does in real life, not at all like the Frank Castle he's supposed to be, even if he went "cUhrAzZeh." Man, what a shitty writer, if only it was Ewing handling Cosmic again instead of him. >I've read #6, and it's nothing at all like what #5 would have you believe. So it's shittier then? I saw the preview and it was dumb as hell, "oh we got played in the most obviously possible way, so let's join forces to kill the "New Thanos" once and for all".
