If by "several comics" you mean the first 2 issues of an ongoing, with the ongoing getting delayed 4+ months as a result and him bailing halfway through the third issue to "focus on his creator owned books," then yes. Joe Mad is a decent enough artist but he's the slowest mother fucker in the business and loses interest in projects at the drop of a hat.
Good for doing video game concept art, covers or pin-up spreads where he can just spend his time drawing sketches or focus on knocking out a page a week. But for putting out an actual comic, he's fucking of doing it.
Also, didn't he fucking kickstart Battle Chasers 10-12 like a decade ago and made like 100k off of it? Dude's the fucking John K. of comics but without the creeping on underage women.

He agreed to do something, took forever to get started on that thing, and then proceeded to bail on it the second he realised it would actually take effort. That's been the Joe Mad MO for as long as I can remember. He made a name for himself in the 90s and has been coasting on that name recognition ever since while making just enough hollow promises over the years to keep people thinking he's at all relevant still. (just like John K.)

It's the latter, even back then it wasn't great, just something that looked fun with excellent artwork.

It's not a great story, just fine, people want a conclusion because they got into it when they were younger and it's been almost two decades since.

even the game didn't have the best story but the game mechanics were amazing and the characters were fun
I dropped the game halfway through because of how monotonous it was in regards to its dungeons and battles.
They made it grindy on purpose so it could feel more old school, which was a dumb idea but whatever, it sold well enough I suppose
I love how they did the mana system
no longer do you have to save all your mana for the boss. You can actually use your abilities
The Art was (back then) a pretty unique blend. The Charaters were intriguing and the story started OK, but was still developing, I can't really say it's a good story. Let's say it had a lot of promise (and huge tits).
OTOH even IF Mad ever delivers other issues, at the speed he's going he can't ever live up to the promising start it had. Better not beginn to read at all.
