So Mummy Dummy looks like a new take on Transylvania 6-5000 but with a mummy. Not only that but the gag we see in the picture is very Clampett-esque with the long noodle arm. Not only that but it also has grain. I don't know if I can handle that amount of kino.

Animation on a TV budget, show's humor was mostly from the dialogue though, which was pretty weird considering its the Looney Tunes. Going off what the other user said, its bizarre how they took a slapstick comedy series like LT and basically turning it into an animated Seinfeld. It had no reason to exist, but its fairly enjoyable if you disconnect it from the rest of the LT franchise

Remember How Chuck Jones worked to inject humor through the dialogue, and not just straight out Pain Factory stunts, which he despised. The Rabbit Season trilogy; the Talking Wile shorts, hell even Duck Amuck and Rabbit Rampage are rather cerebral.

Most of the Bugs shorts are Merrie Melodies but if you're a fan of Porky or Daffy as this user is then it's more likely to be a Looney Tune

The Mickey Mouse shorts are inspired by some of the classic stuff but it's very much its own thing and very stylized. This seems to mostly be a throwback to the classics in both look and tone.

I've officially seen every Looney Tunes Critic video related to LT and now i'm sad. Anyone know others who talk about LT with the same knowledge and understanding? I haven't dug very deep but it feels like no one else does reviews or gives insight on it's history. You'd think with the amount of animators on youtube, some of them were inspired to the point of talking about them, but that never seems to be the case.

I can appreciate the insane emulation of the classics, but 1000 minutes (?) of rehashed things is kind of a bummer. Looney Tunes is kind of outdated. Hopefully this short isn't the norm for the rest and is as experimental as Mickey Mouse shorts, but Peter Browngardt isn't my favorite director/creator so let's see.

Both. I'll argue it for as long as I have to. The short time Tex was at WB is far better and consistent than anything Jones did throughout his 20+ year career at WB leaving. That's not even talking about Tex's MGM years which completely blows Jones out of the water. Tashlin is great but he didn't do enough for me.
If your actual observation for old Daffy comes down to "he just makes noises", than you've clearly never seen more than one of his shorts. When Clampett and Tex had a hold of him, he had some of the funniest and most spontaneous written dialogue ever in Looney Tunes. That's not even including the hysterically ridiculous gags that came along with them. Daffy in the later years just became a parody of himself where you as the audience know exactly what he's going be mad/jealous about as well as knowing exactly where the jokes are going and how they will end. It was fine for the first couple of years before Chuck realized he t understand what made the character popular originally and just stuck with the same tedious formula. You can have your prefrences but don't make dumb claims. That's like saying early Bugs did nothing but chew on a carrot and say "What's up, Doc".

His early work was a little too screwball for my tastes, but when Rabbit Fire came out in '51, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole short has a clear, crisp style, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the gags a big boost. He's been compared to Jerry Lewis, but I think Daffy has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
Another update. Think I'm done for now.
This is practically the rise and fall and rise again of Daffy as a character. Whoever is in charge of the shorts has incredible taste.

The style of the Wet Cement one actually reminds me of Friz Freleng more than any other director. Really static shots where the characters move around like in a silent movie.

a) Friz Freleng was great and being like him is a good thing

The shorts having different styles is partially facilitated by having different designers on eps (though often the main models are used as the basis for the short-specific ones). The lack of red in Dynamite Dance's hat is likely due to that short's character designer (Dan Haskett) tweaking the model

How do you still watch stuff like Rabbit Seasoning after they've shown it more times than you could possibly count? It's a formula and a dynamic they have literally beaten to death to the point where they don't have a choice but to be creative with the character. The only time where they didn't use greedy Daffy for anything major over the course of a 40 year period was in Roger Rabbit and when you think about it, it was the best use of the character since the Golden Age of Looney Tunes. After that, they threw him in Space Jam, a few terrible shorts, another crappy movie, a spin-off series of a parody short, a sitcom, and other miscellaneous shit where it became more of the (((same))). It's baffling to me that people wouldn't want some sort of mix of shorts where he is the iconic prestigious version created by Tex Avery and Bob Clampett while also getting the Chuck Jones and later Friz Freleng Daffy on occasion so it's not over-saturated and filled with no new ideas. The problem was never what Chuck Jones turned Daffy into, that was a way of freshening up a character who had gone stale once he stopped being Wacky Silly Crazy guy. (Even St. Bob Clampett was doing "Daffy is an asshole draft-dodging loser" and "Daffy dreams of being a hero" before he left, because screwball characters were out of fashion.)
The problem is that once the original studio closed or even a little before, the company gave the characters these set-in-stone corporate personalities that couldn't be changed, so we had decades of Daffy acting like he did in the '50s, when the whole point of the change in Daffy was that he couldn't keep acting the same way forever.
Decided to put Jim's new design next to Clampett's, McKimson's, and Jones' design and I gotta say it's pretty incredible.

In terms of animation it's very beautiful and impressive. That said just about any of the new Mickey Mouse shorts beat it out of the water with sheer humor and personality.

There are a lot of things that worry me because I know there's going to be at least 1 idiot who's going to suggest having Kanye do a rap battle with Bugs Bunny or having Daffy take selfies (selfie sticks included) with fans. What is preventing this shit from happening? Old Looney Tunes are guilty of the same thing since many of the pop culture references don't work today, but the ones that do have aged like a fine wine. Perhaps it's best to not have them at all since it's not a necessity and can potentially do more harm than good.

Anyone else put off by the 50's shorts? I find them a bit dialogue heavy and there is not as much movement or life in the characters. Pacing is a lot slower and are more story driven which is a little disappointing in my opinion. Even the character designs start to look the same despite having different directors. The best thing to come out of it are those abstract Maurice Noble backgrounds. There are still great shorts but it really dropped in quality.

Her name is very clearly a word play on tyranny, so either this is an extreme coincidence or the makers of Duck Dodgers were more brilliant than I thought
I've felt something was off about the first cartoon but I wasn't sure what. But now I figured it out. Generally, with Bugs, he used either trickery or his enemy's own weapons against them to win. He very rarely produced any weapons himself. If he uses dynamite, that dynamite was originally something that his enemy tried to use on him first. If he wasn't doing that, he used trickery, feints and sleight of hand. So Bugs pulling all these explosives out on his own is weird and out of character.
I'm willing to forget the lack of a proper setup since it's a 1.5 minute preview. Still, I'm hoping this isn't meant to completely represent the direction they're taking Bugs in.

Going back and watching the "racially insensitive" cartoons, I came to the conclusion that they were made with good intentions behind them and that there was no malicious agenda to make blacks look like lower class humans to the general public. Yes they look stupid but so do most humans in Looney Tunes including the celebrities. Yes they act retarded, but who doesn't? Yes they sound uneducated but so do a ton of characters. Who's to say the voices weren't based on people they knew in real life? I don't believe you're suppose to use these cartoons as a good representation for living human beings. You just laugh at the ridiculousness of it. If you're upset by them, it's nothing more than your insecurities because you may relate to the characters but don't want to admit it. There's nothing inherently wrong with them. It's a matter of personal perception and if you look past this notion that it's a personal attack on your race, you'll see it's just harmless gags.
That's only with Chuck Jones' version of the character, which they clearly weren't going for.
And i'm happy because of it. It's the same way when people are baffled by the idea of Bugs losing. He has lost before and it works incredibly. It wasn't until Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng got a hold of the character and decided to always have him win no matter how stale it got. I don't even think Chuck ever had Bugs lose until What's Opera, Doc and even that was towards the end of the golden age. It's odd how these ideas seem okay at first but are terrible ideas long-term.
