I think it's because for a lot of the people who are into the whole boy-love relationship type thing they're usually more into the serious, brooding, pretty boy of the relationship instead of the more relaxed, friendly, goofy partner.
Kind of like a Sasuke vs Naruto type thing, but for me personally i've always liked the Jon / Naruto side of the relationship more because that's who i would want in a boyfriend.
