I might not like people much, but I don’t especially care much for frogs either and a frog world would probably be kinda low on my list of top picks for fantasy worlds to be trapped in. Almost zero, Gravity Falls didn’t get the bulk of its merch until the show was near the end and afterwards. These things take a while in western animation nowadays unless it’s explicitly a “toy show”, it’s considered a big risk to commit to a property for merchandising before it’s proven to be a big hit and it takes many months after that to develop products.

In Disney’s case, they don’t even schedule or advertise TV airings like they matter the vast majority of the time - they expect you to watch and catch up on their app, and they keep whole seasons available pretty much indefinitely until some other streaming service licenses it. They’re only dripping them out one at a time, but people who won’t find out about the show until later on (which will be the vast majority of audiences, most shows take a bit to gain traction outside of dedicated obsessives of the medium) will have a whole season to binge in a little over a month, while Disney still gains valuable metrics about the increase in audience over time as they release each episode one by one,

I'll never forgive Netflix for what they've done to TV in general. I'm not defending cable and broadcast TV, they are dying and rightly so, but there's a good reason for the once-a-week release schedule that was the standard for many decades. So many shows take time to build up steam and collect a following, but with the binge/bomb format that's impossible. And you just get tons of garbage shows shitted out, with a few gems mixed in but people forget about them in 2 months until it's time for the next season.

I just wonder how long they can keep this up. When you have the viewers binge consume shows left and right they're gonna vomit from all the content. This model can't be profitable forever, so they better figure out how to deal with that asap. If this bubble was to burst at some point the consequences would be devastating. The bomb format exists because of Netflix and only because of Netflix. Netflix releases their shows' episodes all at once instead of releasing them at a weekly pace to encourage binge watching. TV companies are aware that TV is dying because of Netflix so they stopped giving a shit about ratings and decided to air their shows' episodes in batches in order for viewers to binge watch the show on their app.

Maybe they're only planning to air this show during the summer, and also this of course.
