What If

But really, why Wolverine? Also: What are your favorite What If books? Mine are this and Inferno's 'Bad End.'

The back-up in What If? #31 "What If the Fantastic Four had never been?".

In it, The Thing refuses to join the rest of the team and goes on a rampage, resulting in all of the heroes-to-be being prevented from gaining their powers (Peter never goes to the exhibit, Banner and Stark aid the military in capturing Ben, Don Blake postpones his trip to Norway). It's brief, but an awesome look at what FF#1 may have been if it had been a one-shot monster book.

Infernomind

I honestly love the early ones, the ones that really respected the stories they were based on, changing only the smallest details and then working out how actual events from the main timeline would've played out with that small change (like how the very first one, with Spidey joining the FF, still referenced early stories from both ASM and FF) instead of going "everybody dies".

No contest.

That really would be the ultimate FF story.

How different would that world be, because I think the only people who have powers now are Thing, Daredevil, and Ant-Man & Wasp.

Kek

Wasn't there a one-shot graphic novel where Doom does take over Earth, it does become a utopia but the old heroes band together to take him down because "we don't trust him"?

>Vol. 1 #23 - What If Hulk's Girlfriend Jarella Had Not Died?
If only to see the Hulk get an unequivocal good end at least once.

>Vol. 1 #105 - Legacy in Black and White
Mayday's first appearance. Need I say more?

>Vol. 1 #12 - What If Rick Jones Had Become the Hulk?
If only for the novelty of Rick Hulk talking in broken 70s slang.

>Vol 1 #11 - What If the Marvel Bullpen Had Become The Fantastic Four?
Just because it's a cheesy, fun romp.

Same here. I'm not sure if it was fan backlash to the mainline events that caused the book to take such a depressing and vindictive turn, but I'll always prefer the earlier issues and a select few others for that same reason.

This one was okay. I preferred the Spider-Punisher one.

That could've worked better as a miniseries imo.

This was really fun and it could carry its own series. It's very unlikely though.

There was one What If of Punisher getting the Venom symbiote, other about Punisher becoming Captain America.

Because

1. His down to earth "just a dude with claws" personality contrasted well with leading the super-mutants to BTFO all the cosmics and become top dogs of the universe.

2. At the time the story was written he was blowing up in popularity and was arguably the face of the Marvel Universe so it made sense for him to be the leader of what worked as a "final" Marvel superhero story.

>Wolverine and Storm
I can see it. I wish their kid was more than literally just Storm.

>She-Hulk and Hawkeye
I can see it, but realistically Jen would have a fuckton of kids from all the dudes of that alien tribe Colossus' waifu belonged to.

>Cap and Rouge
Eh?

>Johnny and Wanda
EH?

>Thor and Enchantress
EHHHHHHHH?

>>Vol. 1 #105 - Legacy in Black and White
>Mayday's first appearance. Need I say more?

I love her rise from What If one shot to being her own headliner. It was just such an appropriate way to go about it.

Who the fuck asked for your shitty opinion shipper fuck

I thought it was kind of forced to be honest. Like Ben stopping Peter from becoming Spider-Man okay, but in one rampage he more or less stopped a good third of Marvel superheroes from ever happening.

My favorites were What if Dr. Doom was a hero (Doom is MUCH less obnoxious as a good guy), What if the All-New X-men died on their first mission (the Namorita, Beast, Wolfsbane, and Thunderbird team was surprisingly solid, and I'm biased because it was one of my first comic books), What if the Avengers fought Evil in the 1950's (Got to love proto-Agents of Atlas),and what if the Avengers lost Evolutionary War (it was a great cosmic story that presaged some of the themes of Earth X)

That was a good one. I liked how Pete was still relatively tame compared to the Punisher. He killed, but he didn't go out of his way to mow down hoards of mooks.

>He actually defends What If 114
It sucked, doubly so for the kids more or less being carbon copies with no individual traits and for being the last issue of Vol 2 and "classic" What If.

What other What If's could have carried a series?

Nothing will ever beat the Thor and Conan one.

Might storytime this.

Please do. This was one of Busiek's earliest Marvel works right?

>What other What If's could have carried a series?

Well I just meant that her story was a one shot that resonated well with readers so it got turned into a series by popular demand. Compare this to how they introduced Miles or Spider-Gwen. Marvel basically decided we liked those characters whether we wanted to or not. Gwen literally appeared with the words "YOUR NEW FAVORITE" before she even did anything.

Mayday however did it the hard way. The honest way. Her fanbase maybe wasn't the biggest but through loyalty and actually doing their part to spread the word, write into the editors and carry her book she managed to last over 100 issues. A feet no other marvel heroine has come close too and hell even a lot of male heroes don't get that these days.

Or maybe you are just a racist???

who the fuck is Rouge?

That sexy bat from the Sonic games that made me oh so very confused.

I should read this again. I remember it very vaguely from my childhood. I used to love What If books the most.
