I remember how everything about this guy and Season 1 was so full of hype, mystery and intrigue. Admittedly, there was a lot of disappointment when he was fully revealed, but up to that point he was golden. Still love his design.

Korra really was pretty gruesome at times. Her head fucking exploded, people were forcibly slowly suffocated, Tenzin was basically tortured to death with how long they took with him, etc. The worst that ever happened in TLA was Zuko's scar and even that was just a fade to black moment.

Pretty much in general season 3 was very good.
And even though in the ending fight Korra once again got saved, they at the very least established the air benders working together and growing throughout the season.
Honestly the whole "airbenders returning" thing panicked me at first but it turned out pretty good that season.
Then season 4 ruined it.

The issue is that Korra was designed to fail, they wanted her to contrast with Aang who was competent, loveable, and won constantly. The problem is that they never let up and Korra pretty much fucked up whenever she was able, she was a complete dumbass and a shitty bender, it became so predictable that she would lose that the only mystery simply lied behind how she would be saved this time. It was tiresome and uninteresting, she was the worst character in her own show.

Korra doesn’t grow at all though and basically all of her actual successes come from someone else. Aang actually accomplished goals and he wasn’t a mary sue

He did kiss Korra back and then didn't tell Asami about it. Unfortunately he was pretty emotionally stunted from having seen his parents killed when he was like 10 and people thought he was only dating Asami for her money even though he was into her before he found out who she was.

Everything that happened in season 2 was korras fault

Mostly it was his characterization and the stupid love-triangles in book 1. First he advises that Bolin shouldn't pursue Korra because trying to romance a team-mate was a bad idea, but not long afterwards he goes after Korra himself even though he's still supposed to be dating Asami.
It looked like they were really hard trying to make him into the handsome broody guy who gets fangirls wet, but his characterization only made him look like a dumb selfish prick.

His romance with Korra in book 2 was pretty frustrating to watch, too. But that was mostly Korra's fault; she was super confrontational about everything during that book, and Mako's screentime got tainted by his association with her.

Still, Mako got better in the last two books, when they stopped involving him in horrible romantic scenarios and allowed him to lose his dignity every now and then. I grew to like him by the end of the series.

* The awkward romances in seasons 1 and 2.
* Too much pro bending.
* The lame season 2 villain.
* Annoying kid characters. (one of which is uber for no rasin)
* The fanbase.
