The vast majority of current popular anime IS harem and high school, even more so when it's just another 15-18 year old protagonist. Hell the last two seasons have appeared to have complete trash that no one was even interested in.

Give it up weeb, Anime has been trash for quite some time. There are a handful of decent shows, usually 1 or possibly 2 a season anymore, and even those as still just the usual tropes of Harem, High School, Isekai, or Girl Pop.

Isekai is basically just fantasy. Nothing wrong with having a lot of fantasy shows. I wish the West had more straight fantasy shows, with magic, demons, elves, lizardmen, orcs, etc. I think they just rely on the trope of someone being reincarnated to another world because as asians they know they wouldn't fit in in a traditional European medieval setting (even though most anime characters look white, they're intended to be Japanese). So they have them be reborn in a fantasy world as a white guy or a monster or something.

The only real problem with isekai is some of them delve into excessive powerwank, but that's an issue with a few specific anime, and even they can still be interesting. In most isekai the protagonist does still have to struggle.

Harem shit is nowhere near as big as it was in the mid-2000s. Meanwhile there's like 4 isekai shows this season, and another 5 next season. Having a bunch of girls pine over you during school is the old power fantasy, the new one is being an RPG protagonist with girls pining over you.

100% of western cartoons are either about children, or childlike adults. The west has too much nostalgia built up in the concept of childhood because once they get out into the world they aren't able to "adult."

I was including shorts and leftovers in my count, but even then I only count about 18 shows set in highschool.
