I remember enjoying these when he was first making them. Shame about him going crazy and being an asshole and using "crazy artist" as an excuse to be an asshole and fuck over all those people who bought his book.
Anybody know of a resource that has all his comics before he deleted them?
By "him going crazy and being an asshole and using "crazy artist" as an excuse to be an asshole and fuck over all those people who bought his book" I mean:
>"In 2012, Campbell held a successful Kickstarter campaign which raised $51,615 USD to create a print version of Pictures for Sad Children, far exceeding the crowdfunding goal of $8,000 USD.[5] However, in August, a few months after the campaign had concluded, the artist published a lengthy post on the Kickstarter page in which they[Note 1] claim that they had been pretending to be depressed in order to gain a profit. According to the post, their biggest regret was that they made it easier for what they described as "borderline people" to trick themselves into thinking that they are depressed as well. In the post, Campbell also stated that they expected that the book would be finished and delivered before the end of 2012.[7]
>"In February 2014, Campbell published a new blog post in which they confirmed that they were able to ship around 75% of the Kickstarter rewards to their backers, but was unable to ship any more copies because they ran out of money. The post was accompanied with a video that shows Campbell burning over a hundred copies of the book, with an attached threat to burn even more. According to DNAinfo.com, Campbell spent $30,000 USD producing the 200-page hardcover book and even more to include a plastic-wrapped dead wasp in each copy, leaving little money for actual shipping."
Thanks, OP. Do you have all of it saved? If so, that's awesome. I miss this comic a lot.

It's an interesting bit of story, really, back from when kickstarter wasn't recognized as a preorder platform and had more of a sharing aura to it.
There's this weird component of Campbell and being upset that people were demanding to receive the books. "Why would I have to send you books? You were not buying them, you were giving me money; that's what kickstarter is." And that's kind of what it was, if only for a short while. I'm not excusing the way Campbell handled the whole thing, but I think he may have developed some expectations that he shouldn't have.

OP you are a hero. I love this comic and have wanted to reread for a long time.

Yeah.
I've been wondering if the dead wasp might've been an important catalyst for what happened later. Like, what if he hadn't gone all fancy with the dead wasp, and what if he had just printed a normal book. Collecting a dead wasp for each book must've taken some effort, and printing a book with an unusual thing like that must've cost extra money for him. Maybe without the dead wasp, the costs of the book project could've been a little lower. Maybe he could've made a bit more money instead of sinking all his profits into printing/shipping the books. If he had been able to make a bit more money, maybe he wouldn't have felt so stressed by the whole thing that he had a meltdown, ranted on Kickstarter, and burned books.
