the whole "2 months to wait "seems a bit easy plot wise, and the whole 3 girls with 3 gems seems to lead to "muh prophecy" type of stories which I don't like that much, but so far it's executed well.

That leak also said there was a frogger joke in the pilot and got all the characters names wrong so I wouldn’t give it any weight

I like BCG but I gotta admit that Sprig and Anne are superior versions of Cricket and Gloria. I appreciate their somewhat toned-down personalities that aren't as hyper as in most Disney toons. And man does Disney like their crazy ass female characters: Webby, Mabel, Star... Anne being a regular girl, if somewhat rowdy, is a nice change of pace. And she stays positive - I dig that.

It's nice. The characters are likable and the humor is on point. Frogs seem to be interesting enough - I like Wally's accent.
However, the fights were oddly choreographed. Characters were slipping about in space and popping up in places they weren't standing before. There are also other minor continuity errors.

It's a very good start. The writing is lean, the direction and staging are solid, and the voice acting is convincing. I can't commend the dialogue enough. We're swimming in cartoons that are overwritten, indulgent on quips, tailor made for comedians and self-obsessed cartoon creators. Sounding natural has become a rare virtue, and this show has it.

The high concept story and character relationships were established quickly. Possibly too quickly, but I already care about the situation and the characters. This show was a relief after the borefest that was Casagrandes.

Not that user but the humor is kind of..tired? It's not bad per se, just expected which kind of dulls things. I get a chuckle here and there but it feels like they use some of more obvious jokes that could be used in those situations and that predictability dulls the impact. To be fair, stuff like the Shivering truth and wonder shozen are more my cup of tea, so it could just be a large difference in taste.

The humor in this isn't ha-ha funny, and I think it doesn't have to be. I'm sold on the adventure. The light humor that's there is in service of strengthening the chemistry between the characters.

A show like Big City Greens needs to be ha-ha funny. As much as I like it, it was only successful at this maybe 60% of the time.

I think actually lots of Thai people don’t have “Asian” eyes. The region is a blend of Chinese and Khmer, who are more Indian looking.

I'm both generous and selective in my memory. I'm also a sucker for Squidward type characters and odd couple setups. If the show had a narrower, Regular Show-esque focus on Gloria and Cricket, it would be stronger.

For me, BCG gets by on its charm. But it does need sharper humor to be elevated to a higher tier.

Hop Pop said the mountains are only impassible for two months. Maybe monsters that hang out at the mountains are extra aggressive during that time? It could also be that frogs rarely venture too far from the village, so even that relatively small island isn't fully mapped out and the mountains represent an "unknown" range.

Maybe opinions have changed recently, but for a long time The Owl House has gotten more love and attention than Amphibia. Until the release of the episodes caused a fanart explosion, Owl House got more discussion (even if it's just shitflinging about Dana and Cotugno, Owl House threads lasted a long time and Amphibia treads died quickly), more fanart, and more lewds.

I feel like the owl house teaser killed some hype. Not because it was awful but because it brought us down to earth about what the show will actually look like.

Watch as they make a comedic twist, the goth one will be Ivy Honeydew.

I predict after reuniting, one of the girls will become evil and the story will be a metaphor of Ann reexamining her position within the power structure of that social circle, and climbing and surpassing it.

I wasn't expecting to like Anne as much as I did, the teaser didn't sell me on her but after watching the episode she definitely seems like she could be the best female protagonist of these recent crop of cartoons

It's pretty clear that Amphibia has better technical drawing and animation, regardless of personal preference about design. It's also a bit worrying that the trailer contained no dialogue or story specifics.

Owl House's main character seems particularly inspired by Doraemon, and that's kind of a double-edged sword. On one hand I appreciate the artists are now finding inspiration from these sources, on the other hand those sources are so familiar that even tiny deviations in execution seems like a flaw.

I said she has the potential to be the best. Infinity Train and Owl House aren't out yet so I can't judge them but Star was a gibbering autist and anything connected to Loud House is automatically shit so Ronnie Ann is also out of the running

I guarantee that she didn't pull her "I'm the only human" act out of any desire to protect Anne, I think she just genuinely didn't know Anne and the other girl made it into the world. It seems logical that Sasha thought she'd been shunted into this weird world, and out of a desire for survival she tried to play up her uniqueness.

Solid showing for a first impression, but nothing incredible. I'm hoping they take advantage of their setting more, not only with the weird bug creatures but the folksy, medieval vibe. I'm glad they made the characters well-rounded enough not to be total caricatures - e.g. Sprig is wacky and impulsive but not totally incompetent. I've seen mixed responses on the humor ITT but I think the setting of the show lends itself better to comedy and it's a shame the show isn't taking full advantage of that. Comfy swamp vibes are fine too but it feels like wasted potential. I can only judge this show so hard on its first 2 episodes but I'm eager for more.

I'm kinda curious about how the antagonism is gonna unfold, this show isn't an action show, they didn't get stuff like magic items, or a prophecy to accomplish to warrant battles with each other. Actually nothing shows that Anne will ever fight in any way, so id the other girls turns evil it's hard to see how exactly they'll enter in conflict.

To me the biggest problems were A:the pacing which was a little too fast, though that could just be because these are the introductory episodes, and B: Polly was about as cliche and unappealing as you can get for a children's cartoon character, though thankfully she tends to stay out of the way

Other than that this is a solid show. Nothing revolutionary or anything but definitely something worth putting aside 22 minutes each week for

I like how the world isn't some kind and cutesy place, it's real and you can die during any wrong time.

I also like how the frogs treat death like everyday life, so if you're not tough or smart enough then you're simply not going to survive.

People say that Amphibia isn't funny or interesting enough for them but I like that it's not as over-the-top as many other toons. This is kinda old-school, actually.

It's very odd how smug or smarmy many shows are, as if the smug or smarmy writers who wrote them genuinely believe they're pleasant to be around. Never got this feeling from Anne or Sprig. They have real banter.

I do like the chemistry between Sprig and Anne. I also want to see more of what this world looks like. I'm willing to give it a chance because it seems like it may have the potential to grow into something I love but none of these Disney shows have really done it for me.

Anne almost transforms all the frogs into humans as a way of escaping to her world but is stopped by the Planter family. Before she call tell the truth the local tough guy smashes Anne to a short coma and, after waking up, she quickly becomes the first victim of Amphibia's collapse. The final shot is her falling to nothingness as a creppy version of the end theme plays.

The cell phone is a huge fucking chain of continuity errors. Second episode had Anne drop her phone in the lake. We don't see it for the rest of the episode, but we know it will be in future episodes. DI we ever know if she went back & got it? How is it not dead after falling to the bottom of the lake?

I thought she was African at first which just confused me since Anne is voiced by an Asian (Brenda Song is Thai), but I'm really glad she is a dark-skinned Asian girl. Everybody thinks Asians are all buttermilk toned with squinty eyes & slick straight raven hair, so it is great to see diversity that is actually diverse.

Yeah, there's no need to make the font this large unless you're making a really tiny gif.
I mean, the webm's resolution is already high here so it's actually easier to read when the text isn't super large and your eyeballs don't have to follow it over the whole width of the screen. It's like reading subtitles from the very first row in a movie theater.
