Anybody else kinda like Kyle? I wouldn't say he's my favorite Lantern and I don't think he'll ever be the main Lantern again, but I like him enough to think he deserves a bit more than he gets. His 90's run was pretty charming
Anybody else kinda like Kyle...
>kinda like kyle
most people "kinda like " him not many people actually like him
Kyle's great.
I don't understand why they basically have him in his original costume, but won't let him use the cool counterchanged version of the logo. The generic GL logo on the black and white suit just looks weird, it seems like the kind of thing some higher up would demand to feel like he contributed.
Better than the dog collar suit, though.
Kyle was doomed as a character when Major Force killed his woman and put her in the fridge. Everything after that was DC pretending that Kyle was going to be relevant.
he's been turned into a god how many times by now?
i think a character like him really should be used more as a goto GL though considering he's the only one with creativity
So like, four issues in?
Why would that doom the character?
A lot of writers really like turning him into a god because they think what made his original run good was the fact that he was "special" when in reality what made his original run good was that it was comfy New York adventures with a charming supporting cast and a rookie superhero with a fantastic rogues gallery. Basically space Spider-Man
The character obviously can't stay there forever but going to godhood removes a lot of the relatability he has
He really hasn't been the same since he left New York.
I miss Radu.
They'll have Kyle drink from a Radu mug every now and then, which is neat to see.
I was hoping being on Titans would lead to Earth adventures with him but it hasn't happened yet
Kyle's kind of boring. He's the relatable lantern and never really tries to do anything more than be generic compared to others. Even John has more personality since he's not only a military man, but an architect, planet killer, messiah, leader, etc. Kyle is an artist with woman troubles and he becomes god every once in a while. He's like the Dick Grayson of GLs. A basic character that hasn't grown in decades, with everything major that has happened to him getting taken away or forgotten.
>Fisting is... $300
I've always liked him.
His mask has always sucked.
I like him because he's the only fictional character that I know that has the same name as me. No, it isn't Kyle
He gets shit on constantly because Winick and Raab dropped the ball. It's a damn shame because all of his Volume 3 stuff leading up to those idiots taking over was fantastic. He's essentially in the same boat as John Stewart, where they both had a fantastic run at some point and nobody who's taken over since wants to write for them.
He’s alright, He’s just never been my favorite.
I like him.
Get rid of the mask.
Give him back his white outfit.
Make him gay and give him a space boyfriend and assign him to a different sector to be with space boyfriend, make into a 4 issue mini and then collect it for gay pride next year.
nice idea but i like the mask
Wish he spouted Dragon Ball memes instead of whatever the fuck he says when King's writing him
The mask is badass
the only good Lantern
That mask is too big at least the way it was drawn in HiC. Conceptually, I have no problems with it, and I didn't mean have him be maskless - I meant, give him a better mask.
Kyle is a hippie artist. He's the peaceful, quiet one. He needs an asshole character to play off of. Whether that's the stone-faced John, unruly Guy, or absentminded Hal.
I don’t get why Kyle did this Spanish prayer. He’s Spanish because of his Dad, but he never grew up with him
I liked him back when he was still new at the job, still green.
The moment he got his second personalized costume and his gay best friend was beaten nearly to death, Jade cheated on him and Hal came back, it was all downhill from there.
What about when he got omnipresent powers and fell in love with that mute girl?
I got real sick of his
>I don't think I can do this, everybody hates me, oof I dropped the ring again
Loser lantern thing. It dragged on way too damn long.
I miss Nero as his nemesis.
Paranoid schizophrenic with zero control over his constructs and no grip on reality with a power ring was an interesting direction.
Because now he is a rosary clutching spic that grew up in Tijuana and East LA
Kyle under Tomasi was fine.
Both him and Guy are more known for their comedic side with one being laid back and the other a hothead.
Then New Guardians was BN lite but got the rainbow gang rolling.
His stint as White Lantern was alright. Nothing big came out of it except Omega Men.
Then he got back to being a GL.
He’s got plenty of potential for good stories, just that no one is really doing anything with him.
who did this?
Tom King read a character Wiki entry saying Kyle was Hispanic and so suddenly he decided that meant Kyle spoke in Spanglish.
yeah i like him in spite of the costume
King is such a fucking idiot.
>there will never be an issue where we learn that every Earth GL speaks better Spanish than Kyle
Jess spoke terrible Spanglish in Priest's short stint in JL and she was awful at it too
That is because Priest is presumably terrible at Spanish, in-universe she's a native Spanish speaker.
Other than her ring, I don't remember Jess speaking Spanish
the reason I dropped Priest JL was because of that stupid shit.
You weren't missing much. It had some interesting premises but it kinda petered out with some of the plot, like the "fan" angle that went on a bit too long
Not nearly as disturbing as Morrison killing off Effigy for no real reason and then bringing back Human Flame in the same book. Fire lantern killed and replaced by a weird fat guy with a homemade fire nipple suit.
She was born and raised in Portland Oregon. She is not a native Spanish speaker. She is 99% white person.
>fantastic rogues gallery
Nice trips but Fatality, Effigy, and Nero were all good to great and Parallax was the best DC villain of the 90's
This is fucking savage.
>that grew up in Tijuana and East LA
A Spic that grows up in Tijuana is very different from one who would grow up in East LA and one who grew up in both would be rejected by Spics in both areas.
He's also too white for an East LA Spic.
Pre Mexican retcon Kyle was still from East LA
>Doctor Light
>Doctor Polaris
>Shiro Nova
>Grayven
>Fatality
>Effigy
>Nero
>Mongul
>Major Force
>Parallax
That's a solid lineup.
He had his own Sonar, Shark, and Tattoed Man
But most of Hal's villains from the 60s through 90s were pretty fucking awful too.
And unfortunately were cannon fodder to be killed once GL: Rebirth hit. By the time of Final Crisis the score was
>Doctor Light - killed by Spectre
>Doctor Polaris - killed by Human Bomb
>Shiro Nova - created by Raab
>Grayven - killed by Infinity Man
>Fatality - retconned to be almost a completely different character
>Effigy - killed by Spectre
>Nero - killed by Guardians
>Mongul - killed by Neron
>Major Force - really the only one to get a satisfying conclusion and he’s on loan from Captain Atom.
>Parallax - retconned to be an entirely different character.
Pre-Retcon he was an Irish boy and not a Mexican.
I really liked the new Guardians run.
I'd greentext "what's an Irish-Mexican?" But they're pretty much exactly what it says on the tin.
