A far as I remember, the creators wanted to age Yugo for season 3, but couldn't: they were forced to keep Yugo young so that he could be a relatable hero for the younger audience.
It's kinda funny, Quilby almost objectively has a shittier circumstance than Nox does, but he just came off as so much less sympathetic.
I guess the fact that his goal is objectively more selfish than Nox's helps. But his fate is definitely much crueler

What they could have done is: since he's still a child, he has at most, a shallow childlike crush on Amalia (because he won't approach puberty for a long time). Meanwhile, Amalia angst over the fact their vastly different growing rate make them completely unrealatable to eachother on a romantic and physical level but learn to move on. (or find a way to age more slowly so that Yugo can catch up)
Nox was fucked up, but he comes off as more sympathetic because he was trying to bring back his family. Qilby has no such excuse. He started a war with an entire alien empire solely because he was bored and wanted to move on at his people's expense.
