We're pleased to announced the upcoming series from writer/artist Stjepan Šejić (Aquaman, Suicide Squad) that will shine a modern spotlight on the tragic love story, the doomed research, and eventual madness that has defined Harley Quinn since her introduction. In Šejić's HARLEEN, the good doctor's original mission isn't just to stare the madness of Joker in the face... she is going to cure it. Harley Quinn used to be my fav DC character. Mad, abused, broken. Her New 52 series has been a guilty pleasure for me until it stopped being a pleasure. I'm reading an issue of her solo or Suicide Squad once a year or two to see if it's any better. It's not.
She was pretty good in Suicide Squad but not really muh Harley. And everything now is pushing this version of her. Now she's cucking Barbara out of the Birds of Prey movie. Birds of fucking Prey! A team that was created by Barbara when she was shot in the spine by the Joker is now being created by Joker's lover/henchman.
Also I always felt her origin story was kinda weak. I mean, it was cool for a kids cartoon, but overall it was pretty flat. She was a psychiatrist and wasn't acting like one. I always wanted the story to be retold in more deep, more adult manner. More emotional, diving deeper into her mind.
Also I'm reading Batman Metal right now and I got through an issue of Suicide Squad drawn by Šejić. I love his style. Sure it may look like tumblr art that makes teen girls feel funny down there, but I still like it.
