The reason it sounds like a knockoff is because they probably used Mr Blue Sky when creating the storyboards and animatics, and the crew most likely tried to get the real song to play in the show.
However, Disney absolutely hates paying licensed music in their shows so they had to just compose something similar.
Alex Hirsch had to break Disney with sheer annoyance just to have a character sing a 5 second clip of a licensed song.

Sprig and Anne have really good chemistry and their relationship feels really organic

Sprig is cute, but not humanoid enough for me to want to continue that badly. The only thing the episodes made me interested in was wanting the delinquents to have very frequent roles, as the comedy isn't good/doesn't exist, so this show can only really rely on plot.

I kinda wish that the setup for Anne taking the box was boarded/designed better. It's clearly a very special, ominous box that sets everything in motion, and here she just stole it from an old lady like in twenty seconds with zero tension.

The subtext is clearly that they she gave in to peer pressure and relayed her motivation, not trying to manipulate Sprig.
