So why exactly IS this mouth so popular in cartoons?

its easy

If you refer to the beanmouth description, it obviously is a bean if you remove the lines. If you also remove the lines but add a slit at the end, it's a dick. If you remove the center lines, it's a pill.

It's subliminally brainwashing you to like s 0 i beans, cock and big pharma pills.

this

Add a stem after erasing the lines and it can also be a jalapeno, to brainwash you into accepting illegals.

I'm guessing that execs see cartoons with that style like SU and GF as popular and think that having shows with that art style will in turn make those shows popular which will then make them lots of money.

simple cute, anybody can draw it. It's like sonic characters.

The real answer that no one ever brings up is that a lot of animators are anime fans who really like ghibli films but do a poor job imitating what inspires them.

Easier and cheaper to animate. Also easier to dub it in different languages. The whole toon industry is losing money ever since cable started to die so they cut corners

i've talked with people who have pitched too cn before one of them mentioned that when they asked why they weren't interested, it was because there art style is to complicated so i imagine it's a mix of easy too hire for and people not needing a dick load of training time to work on projects, so in the end as always, money duh.

Pretty much this. Check out a handful of Hourly Comics from February, and you’ll see that the hot new stylistic trend that many artists follow is being heavily influenced by anime and chibi video games.

I don’t mind the bean mouth, though. It’s effective and appealing.

I remember liking the beanmouth when I first saw it too.

The problem is how overused it's become, especially as a generic expression that doesn't add anything to the scene.

It's like a Fibonacci Sequence/Golden ratio thing, just aesthetically sound and pleasing

This. SU and OK KO are especially guilty of trying to imitate that "I want to know which artist worked on what scene" and going off-model the way 90's anime productions did, but their artists are so fucking lacking in basic fundamental skills, they just look like bad drawings, not charmingly simple drawings like vid related.

It's mainly inspired by Ghibli and other anime films from the 80s and 90s. However American artists emulate it poorly considering they only know how to draw basic blobs.

Give me an example of a “bad SU drawing,” user. I can only remember expressive posing and facial expressions, and legitimately cool action sequences.

I don't see the problem with this shot

Why's any animation style popular? No point in bitching about a fad that will go away in a couple years anyway.

So how did cartoons used to draw mouths before bean mouth took over?

Non shockingly, a character's mouth would change depending on their design. They wouldn't just throw a stock bean mouth on literally fucking everything.

This.

Fuck I was wrong. It's actually these.

No idea... I always tend to draw different mouth shapes, usually this one

That’s fucking hilarious, I’ll give you that one.

Who gives a shit? These screencaps are dozens of episodes apart. The only people who would nitpick about these minute inconsistencies are people who hate how successful the show’s become. Steven’s height changing didn’t affect the story in any way. IT DOES NOTHING.

That’s just a silly, Jeff Liu-brand facial expression. Get over yourself.

>"Show me examples."
>Shows examples
>NAH UR JUST BEING A LITTLE BITCH LOL

Forget moving the goalpost, you just fucking burned it.

nothing too big but wtf

I'll buy that that's how it started. And how it continued is obvious enough (copies copying a copycat).

You think THAAAT'S bad?

What the absolute fuck

I made your pic OP-related.

I don't know anything about this show. Do the artists just not have reference images or something?

They like to pretend they're as talented as the artists who work at Trigger who don't use height charts and just go by "what feels good for the scene at the moment".

It's simple and cartoons are (usually) relatively simple in design.

Fucking this. The plague of the meme mouth was never as immediate or negative as Yea Forums says it is.

Engage on reproduction

Same thing happened when every webcomic artist wanted to copy Scott Pilgrim without looking to see what shows and games it was inspired by.
