It's more likely that Butch legitimately believed the hype that was going on when people still thought Youtube had a shot at taking over entertainment as we knew it. It seems like he quit his network job and then seriously threw himself into a Youtube career, with clickbait and all - but he misunderstood the lack of integrity it takes to make it on that site today.
He was making his own content, for christ's sake. Almost nobody does that on Youtube anymore. You're supposed to steal content or pay for pre-made B-roll footage so you can pump out metric fucktons of noise.
And when Youtube failed him, I guess he decided to try to start his own service with Blackjack and Hookers. Actually, forget the Blackjack and Hookers, we're doing Christianity instead. And also forget the streaming service.

It wouldn't be surprising if megacorps are finally starting to crackdown on patreon artists making money off unlicensed art and merch, even if it's claimed to be fan-made. Used to be able to do that at cons because nobody cared, but now that it's online, easily accessible, and highly profitable for some artists, all the DMCA lawyers are foaming at the mouth. Private commissions might even get thrown in because you're technically making money off another person's (read: corporation's) idea. Even original creators need permission to make additional art with copyrighted characters if they intend to make money from it.
