What went wrong?

It was a sequel nobody asked for or wanted, released after they bombarded the general public with multiple lego films.
I thought it went wrong because the trailer focused too much on "Grrrl Powah!" and also because it was released at a time when no one in the target audience was going to see it.
too many songs
I didn't even realize it existed until seeing this thread, that could be part of it.
Marketing kind of sucked considering that it was pretty good.
Oversaturation. WB thought Lego could maintain a cinematic universe and overextended. Audiences saw them as all being the same. So instead of being Lego Movie 2 this was really Lego Movie 4. It's sad because the 10-film plan they had sounded bold/exciting and now the series is being "reevaluated" with all future films in limbo.
People being stupid.
This is one of the most important animated movies.
Nothing, it was good.
Not much. I mean 99% of all sequels aren't as good as the original. This was just "another sequel". Also it was a musical, which some people could hate but I personally thought most of the songs were good.
The whole "everything happening is really just a metaphor for a child's imagination" thing was unnecessary and made the whole thing stupid.
i'd like Billion Brick Race.
but if that's the end, then ok.
>instead of being Lego Movie 2 this was really Lego Movie 4
This is extremely accurate
Lego Batman was the true sequel to the Lego Movie
Wasn't gay enough.
Nothing. It was a good movie.
Lego Ninjago was the biggest mistake. That was the "oh fuck, they're going to try and do a million of these, aren't they?" tipping point.
They made too many unneccessary crossovers before "Lego Movie 2", instead of just going to "Lego Movie 2".
Also the entire film was just them going to one spot, while rendering the side characters pretty much meaningless.
Brick-Chick wasn't enough to save the film.
sewer babies ;_;
the real problem was bad promotion and 0 hype.
the movie itself was good but i feel like it was lacking some of the retro references and fun stuff from the original but that being said i still though it was good enough and fun.
It didn't have that general all-ages appeal of the first movie with its lack of any real "Oh shit, did you see that? I had that!" nostalgia-pandering for the adult moviegoer and instead focused on newer stuff like minidolls.
The boys vs girls angle also doesn't really appeal to most people past their puberty compared to kids vs adults.
Another problem was that it also felt a lot more commercial-esque and like the movie that people feared the first one would be, with my most hated scene being when the party bus opened up which just screamed "LOOK AT WHAT THIS SET CAN DO! ONLY 89.99 AT YOUR LOCAL TOY STORE!".
>connor
>ripley
what's the name of the other one?
The filmmakers even tried to warn the studio about how bad of an idea it was.
